Thanks to Vault and his tips I've convinced my fiance that Pokemon cards ARE an investment. We may lose our house but I'll still have those crispy 10's. Thank you kind sir
I am building up a a pile of cards that I think will be worth grading and looking forward to using this insight once I have enough to send in to more closely evaluate my collection. Grading is certainly one of the mysterious aspects of Pokemon collecting.
Great advice and I believe it really helps all of us make better and informed decisions with grading. I'll be sending out my first cards to get graded soon. I've been holding off on it as I really want to only send in my best of the best. My Dark Dragonite I picked up from collect-a-con will be my first graded card!
I always try to put as close to mint in my collection. Straight from pack to sleeve, then album. If a card is frayed, bent, torn, print lines, miscut, scratches, and whiting, i won't take it, even if it's a big card. Great video, thanks for the tips
Thank you for this!! I'm always a little apprehensive about grading and normally keep my collection in binders as I don't buy to flip, but for my spares this is really helpful for determining if it might be worth me taking that extra step.
I think you should consider talking about how alt arts in sword and shield might go through the same phase that tag teams went through in a few years from now
I've been watching your videos for a while now and honestly think you're way better than all of the other Pokémon youtubers. You are very genuine and very likable, so keep up the great work man!
Appreciate these points. As someone who has never graded a card but wants to it gives me a little more of a discerning eye as I determine what to spend money on to grade. Thank you.
Wow thank you for sharing your Knowledge, im new to the Hobby and this helps me a lot to get a better understanding on how grading really works. I know its smarter to buy the Cards that i like but man its so tempting to rip open some booster Bundles and Displays. For now im just trying to open and collect as much as possible and i think in a couple of months im gonna send my first Cards to PSA just to get a feeling for that as well.
Steel sharpening steel with the intel Defo love these types of vids dude. I can’t wait till you do another PSA return as I also think they are underrated vids.
@Poke Vault Thank you for creating this video, Vault! I'm just dipping my toes into world of cards and this was incredibly helpful. At the 9:00 minute mark when you get into the most important bit of information you talk about: can you share the website you use when evaluating value and price of the cards you examine, please? I'm not sure if Star Wars Unlimited data would be available but that is the game I'm currently invested in and would love to learn more of the numbers if available. Thanks!
thank you for the incredible video on where and how to start, as someone who is into collecting (mainly from pulls) and was too afraid to lose my ass I definitely feel a little more confident with what I'm looking at and for!
in regards to the Gengar Mimikyu example, if it comes back a 9 youre essentially breaking even at 110 or maybe profiting like $8. Raw purchase, grading fee, selling fees.
I just bought a large collection for quite cheap so I was able to have my “break even” grade minimum be as low as 7 for everything I decided to send in. I sent the first 95 cards a month ago and am eagerly awaiting the grades!
The last part is basically what I did when I sent in 20 vintage. Basically looked at only sending cards that would triple from the raw price if they graded an 8 or higher. Otherwise you're basically breaking even after everything.
I would argue greatly the population report doesn't show your chance to get a grade because that makes it sound random. If they are doing their job like they should a pristine perfect card gets a 10
Always enjoy these grading training videos. Have only graded once and was through a card shop. Trying to build a 20 card stack to send in myself. Only half way there lol
Great info! Ive never got any cards graded but seems the way to get the most money as long as its a 10. You touched on something i wondered about, can the card be damaged during the grading process? It would stink to send a potential 10 only to get it back as an 8 or lower with a new scratch or bend.
I’ve been going back and forth on grading my childhood collection from wotc. Most cards are lp so i don’t expect any high grades. Just want to be able to display them.
The people submitting the umbreons are probably reviewing the condition and submitting based on the assumption they are getting the 10, which is prob why the majority are 10s. out of the pack I doubt 70% are in a gem mint condition but overall yes very good breakdown.
The gem percentage takes into account the self selection bias, by just comparing the ratio of 9s/10s. Assuming you have at least some sense of the the 4 grading criteria and it looks clean to you it tells you how tough a grade that particular card is to gem out. You can see some cards just have historical issues in the print run and just don't gem as often as others. I'm not sure it came across as clearly in the video that general rule of the gem rate is 50% you need to be making money or at least breaking even on 9 before you should send it. 50% gem rate and break even price on a 9 you should probably just sell raw.
Hi, so I’m thinking of getting into this as a hobby despite never having played. My big question at the moment is - give Pokémon has been around so long, should I focus on buying older decks or are people not interested in these decks anymore?? Much love
Thanks for this video man. I’ve been considering grading some of my higher value cards and haven’t been to sure yet on why when or how to really Go about it. I’ve only started collecting again about 4 months ago since I was a kid back when pk cards first came out in the last 90s/early 2ks and have had some extremely good luck and really good pulls. I basically keep all my Cards even bulk in as best storage and condition as I possibly can but this is valuable information for me to know. So I appreciate the time and effort you took into making this content for us. Way helpful. Now I’d like to ask you what company do you recommend I go with because I’ve heard some horror stories with some of these reputable companies. So I’d be more then grateful if u can provide me with your recommendations and what’s the best packages from those companies to go with. Thanks man once again for this and take care.
i have recently gotten this interest through a friend. i have alot of full art holo exs but unfortunately after this video i dont believe anything is getting a grade over 9 lol
I want a Ceraludge full art from surging sparks at a PSA 10 just because I just think it looks really cool but whenever one is on eBay for bid it’s always super expensive like 200 dollars expensive.
Because of your tips, my Shanks (OP01-120 V3 or Manga alt) is a psa 10! Yes its a one piece card. But I got a base set zard and mewtwo in a 9 & 10 back as well. THANK YOU
Reaching 80k soon! Hopefully I will send some of my favorite cards to grade this year. Some solely for personal reasons but some to try increasing my collection value!
Good news everyone!!!! New Vault video!!!! Again congrats on 80K!!!!!so well deserved!!!! Been here since 5k followers I think. I'm not fu*king leaving lol Soak this knowledge up people!! Great video brotha!!
Had to edit this comment because I have a question because I’m thinking of grading a card and I don’t know if it’s worth it the card is Miriam alt art is it worth it, I pulled it out of a pack.
Awesome stuff. Curious what your thoughts are on grading vintage that are high value but are along the “moderately played” scale (edge-ware, surface scratches, etc.). Guessing it comes down to doing your due-diligence and what it would likely grade as. Are some cards, even with ware, are more valuable raw at that point?
Thanks to Vault and his tips I've convinced my fiance that Pokemon cards ARE an investment. We may lose our house but I'll still have those crispy 10's. Thank you kind sir
"Babe, you need to take everything out of your car like right now"
Lol my guy is a smooth talker.
I might be homeless but at least I’ll always have my psa 10 1st edition charizard
Anyone else cash out their retirement benefits for a brick of PSA 10’s yet?
Bro I am in the same. My wife is now on the side of getting those pulls! 🎉😂

I pulled a lugia alt Art and wanted to grade it for weeks now but then i realised how poor the centering was😂😢
Recently a streamer pulled a Lugia V full art for me from my first box, I was skeptical to send it for grading coz of the centering in the back too 😢
I love these vintage Vault videos! I just got my first PSA submission back, 9 cards went in and I got 4 back as 10s which i’m very happy with!
Thanks for the advice Sean. Glad to see you going back to basics every once in awhile.
Thank you! This was very educational and insightful. It's cool to see how much it goes into this. Awesome video!
I've been using the AGS app to scan cards to help me decide if I should grade them. Hasn't failed yet. Lowest grade I've gotten back is 9.5
Can you scan them without paying them to fake grade them?
@@W8DEY I never paid AGS anything. I sent mine into CGC after scanning
I think you should consider talking about how alt arts in sword and shield might go through the same phase that tag teams went through in a few years from now
never thought about grading cards like this. i need to take advantage of the grade card market!
Great stuff. Would love to see more of this kind of grading/selling/keeping tips and tricks.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and honestly think you're way better than all of the other Pokémon youtubers. You are very genuine and very likable, so keep up the great work man!
Wow, thanks!
@@PokeVault8what’s the site you were showcasing us?
This was very informative and down-to-earth! Thanks, Vault!
Love this video! I have been sending cards to get graded and lots of research goes into it! So helpful!
Love gaining knowledge from your channel!❤🔥
Thanks for the tips. I especially like the method which you mentioned at the end
Great instructional video. People do overlook the backs of the cards. That's probably where it's easiest to see damage or condition issues.
Love these videos and the info that comes with them! Thank you
Appreciate these points. As someone who has never graded a card but wants to it gives me a little more of a discerning eye as I determine what to spend money on to grade. Thank you.
Vault you explaining the science behind cost to risk to profit value is beyond amazing thank you sir!!
Perfect educational video, many thanks Sean! 👍
Hey thanks for the video, just got back into pokemon with 151 since the base/jungle/fossil times so this information is great!
Thank you for talking about the price as well!
I love these kinds of vids, it's always good to know what you're doing!
Glad you enjoy it!

AMAZING! Informative.... Thank you, Sir! Truly appreciate it 🙏🙏🙏

This is one of the main reasons i subd to pokevault to educate a noob like me when it comes to grading/investing
Solid advice. Cheers Mr Vault
Good info, plenty of new collectors have such trouble finding their likes/dislikes in the market. Just a good resource to inform and educate
Awesome advice! Love these videos!
This is such sound advice! I appreciate it 🙏🏼

Thanks heaps for the tips! I've always had a lot of questions around grading. Can you please link the sites you used in description?
A lot of good advice in this video! Stuff I haven’t really considered. Great work!

Really enjoyed this video. My son collects and I thought about grading some cards and this has taught me so much👏🏼
This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!
I would argue greatly the population report doesn't show your chance to get a grade because that makes it sound random. If they are doing their job like they should a pristine perfect card gets a 10
not entirely. checking the pop report can give you an idea of: 1. how hard it is to get a 10 2. QC of the set that card was in.
Dude you give info that nobody else does. Thank you.
Great video! Pretty much the exact steps I take when grading
Thanks for this. I always appreciate tips and best practices.
So helpful, thanks Vault!
Needed this new to pokemon in general. Thanks for great vid!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for these videos they help out a lot and the community appreciates it thanks for what you do keep on going!! 🎉
Was waiting for this video from a long time tysmm vault really like ur advices!!
Amazing video. Exactly what I needed. Thanks
Getting into the hobby and this was super helpful! Make more pls
Thank you for this, so much information
Always enjoy these grading training videos. Have only graded once and was through a card shop. Trying to build a 20 card stack to send in myself. Only half way there lol
Very informative! Thank you for a change from the normal pack opening video.
Great info! Ive never got any cards graded but seems the way to get the most money as long as its a 10.
You touched on something i wondered about, can the card be damaged during the grading process?
It would stink to send a potential 10 only to get it back as an 8 or lower with a new scratch or bend.
Yeah definite bummer if your card gets damaged
This is great and useful information. Thank you!
I’m still nervous to send cards into PSA myself, wish I had a LGS nearby that was trustworthy to send some of my cards off for grading.
Thank u for this information it helped me a lot in selecting what cards to grade
it’s great how i’m seeing this right after my cards move to the grading process 😂

As someone who's been debating on what cards to eventually grade, these videos are a huge help... Even if they include Yu-Gi-Oh cards, lol.
I’m late but thanks for making this very helpful and real video for us new Pokémon collectors! You’re the real one 🙌 👑
Thanks for this helpful tips, Vault! ❤ I really appreciate it!❤😊 Happy Sunday, guys

i have recently gotten this interest through a friend. i have alot of full art holo exs but unfortunately after this video i dont believe anything is getting a grade over 9 lol
