xaeler333 same. Even though it's tech is the best. But the looks and layout is pretty meh. Just imagine it without the virtual cockpit and it will look like something from 5 years ago. The other two cars have a much better looking dash, the tech is not comparable to Audi by any means though.
xaeler333 Everyone has their own opinion. I drive my sisters new Q7 from time to time and it doesn't feel bland in the slightest, having said that her Q7 has a different colour interior which is more exciting than the "clinical" look of the test one in this video. It's a very clean and simple look that doesn't feel cluttered, you don't need anything else on or around the dash. What's there is all that it needs.
Definitely the Volvo would be the best bang for your buck, especially here in Australia. The starting price of the Q7 here is 117k. The top of the line Xc90 T6 Rdesign is priced at 114k.
@@anchia7 why should he throw his money in the next 2 years the car has warranty for 3 years + you can extend it for another 2 years it seems you never drove any audi cars
toranwartoran Looking at the date of the video, the car is already at least 2 years old, it’ll be 4+ years old in the next 2 years. And Audi’s are notorious for having issues within the first 4 years and usually right after warranty runs out. If they were so reliable, why would you need to extend a warranty on a fairly new car you paid so much money for just 3 years ago (and probably still paying)??? And there is a reason why I don’t owe one. Friends and family have owned them and they’re nothing but headaches once those first 3-4 years of warranty wear off. Sometime even before.

For me i change my car every 6 years so i dont know what happened to others after owning the car for more than 6 years
toranwartoran thats good for you. I’ve owned all types of cars (American, European, and Japanese). Japanese have proven to be the most reliable. I loved and enjoyed my BMW and I can tell you it gave me a bit more issues than any of my Japanese (Nissan, Acura, Honda). German cars are just a lot more fun to drive and perform better. I’ve been tempted to buy an Audi a couple of times, but was turned off by family and friends. I think replacing every 6 years or more often if you Can is a safe move if you can afford it. But for the average joe who keeps a car for longer and drives a car that’s usually a decade or older, Audi is not the smartest choice. I currently own a Chevy Truck (haven’t had any issues whatsoever in 90k miles) and a 4 years old Volvo XC90 which has been great and we love. That thing is a luxury tank. Best regards from Texas.
Land Rover discovery is best in the 3 cause it can do best off-roading and has a great feel while driving. SUV are meant to do great off-roading. Audi Q7 is like buying and getting the feel of sedan car not an SUV
Volvo like a lot of manufacturers are echoing the styling queues of the Jaguar F-pace albeit scaled up a bit, the Discovery is still the most versatile and most capable off road
Had an XC90 recently as a courtesy car and I couldn’t believe how good it was. It was a top of the range T8 Recharge but still, what a vehicle. So good that I’m saving up as much as possible to make it my next car.
Just picked up 2019 XC90 and love the car. T6 is a beast with supercharger and turbocharge, and the one i picked up has Polestar which produces more hp. It's also very elegant and love the interior and seats.
danhalski excellent reply, that completely defeats my point! I own an xc90 and bought it because it's so far ahead of the game. It's the closest thing to tesla's autopilot. The Audi and LR only have adaptive cruise and no other forms of automated driving
Gary Campbell And I'll surprise you here.I have just sold the Audi Q7 with full equipment, Audi prevents collision there is no need to throw any buttons to launch functions Checked several times by accident :-) works and it's fine 1 warns against collision 2 prepares brakes 3 if you do not react then auto brakes prevent collision. If you want to turn right at the junction and someone coming up with the opposite auto will stop.Sometimes it is a shock because it happens fast but the sensitivity of the system can be set Before buying I tested a few options for the Volvo XC90 :-) your BMW but already had one knowledge got bored and still produced unchanged and the Audi Q7 new model pity with was only 3L available no 4 more power Volvo XC90 dropped 2L what is the engine yelling Begging for help non stop.I bought a Tesla X90D I'm waiting to have in October, for economic reasons, sorry for English
Yeh the Volvo has automated collision, braking and steering assist without launch. Keep in mind that the the XC90 has had several major updates to the 2018 model (after March 17). I find the 2L engine is quick enough for this type of vehicle, it does need to jump through gears more often that the Audi's 3.0l though. The T8 Hybrid would likely be much better but I went for the D5 as it wasn't worth the extra for the hybrid since I don't do much town driving. The Tesla is one of the best cars I have driven but it just didn't have the space I need, the 90D is just insanely fast.
Gary Campbell Audi pre-sense front with collision avoidance assist and turn assist When the system detects the risk of a collision with the vehicle in front a visual and acoustic warning is given to the driver followed by partial braking or at speeds under 19mph the system may apply full braking. In addition, the system will calculate if an appropriate evasion lane is available and apply supportive steering to aid the driver. If a crash is sensed the airbags will be pre-conditioned and the braking system prepared to assist with the necessary braking force once the brake pedal is touched. When turning at crossroads, from the moment the turn indicators are activated the turn assist system detects approaching vehicles and applies braking to help avoid a collision Audi Active lane assist Traffic jam assist When activated and in conjunction with ACC the system uses the sensors and camera to detect vehicles ahead and on adjacent lanes. When a traffic jam is detected, the system will assist with the braking, accelerating and steering up to 37mph making your journey a more comfortable one Predictive efficiency assist All-wheel steering the best for me
You should have had the inscription package instead of the r design package on the XC90. It would have made a huge difference and I'm sure it would feel the most posh feeling. Also the base wheels are 19 inch which would change the ride quality drastically.

I purchased the Volvo XC90, it is by far the best SUV in this comparison. I test drove all three & had them for a week, even though all are great cars, economically you still cannot beat the Volvo as best all around SUV.

A few years on and all the 3 models have received a face-lift now (June 2021). I ended up exactly with this trio on my shortlist a few months ago. Diesel is still very relevant in this segment and the lack of a six cylinder on the Volvo took it out of the list eventually, the petrol cannot cope decently with towing. Looks (a totally subjective matter) and capability on the Disco ended up making it a winner for me. Still waiting for the delivery though as waiting times are over 4 months.
Matt Great Review but perhaps next time try getting the Inscription model on the XC90. You'll find it looks posher with a lighter cabin, real wood inlays, leather on the dash and also has AC controls at the back. If you get the T8 it even comes with a crystal gear knob. I've seen it myself and have to say it looks stunning and has that minimalistic/Scandinavian design if you're into that.R Design looks sporty but the interior is too dark for a Volvo and doesn't really bring out the best of that dash design.
the volvo has rear touch screen climate control and the load hight is much lower when you lower the air suspension and the 407 hp t8 model is wonderfull volvo all the way!
I'll admit, the Discovery has a design quirk, it probably isn't very reliable and it's very expensive. But I'd still pick out of the three as it works when the tarmac stops. Let's be honest, a car with as much ground clearance as these three cars, it's more or less expected of them to work off-road.
I LOVE the storage of the Land Rover, particularly the fridge arm rest which would be particularly useful for our hot summers in Australia, I can imagine putting a bottle of milk, some cheese and perhaps ham or fish in there which all spoil very quickly in heat, no under floor storage in the boot nor split tailgate is a letdown....I just wish I could afford any of these, so really my opinion is of little consequence...please let me win the lottery. 😜
We looked at all three, the Land Rover was cut instantly by my wife, she thought it was too ugly. The Audi and Volvo were a hard choice, Volvo won out due to technology, Audi does not have autopilot cruise, Spotify app or tidal app. The Audi also jumps in price with any reasonable options in it, well equipped the Volvo is 10k less. Audi was a little sportier driving but my wife disliked that it didn't have a touch screen, she hated the old styled knob. So we went with the Volvo.
Great comparison. We compared the same 3 + the Benz GLE. You can't really go wrong with any of these SUVs. It comes down to individual preferences and priorities. In the end the Q7 won us over. No regrets
When I was born,my parents had a XC90. When I was around 3 Years old, we switched to a Disco 2. Since then we ever had a Disco. And we did serious offroading with every single one. Even with the Volvo. And the only things, that ever managed to stop us were: P3: a Harvester P2: dead ends in the wood P1: fallen trees And cince I can think my grandparents driva a Volvo too: a V40 (predecessor unknown), and then two XC60s And if my first car won't ba a Ford, it will be a Land Rover or a Volvo too.
The old Q7 had such a presence on the road and with a unique look made it awesome. The new one the inside is much better, but looks horrible and like every other SUV
Writing from USA here ... I quite like diesel engines, so I'm tempted to go for the Disco (the only one of the three to come with a diesel over here). But the Q7 and the XC90 both average pretty close MPG with their upgraded petrol engines, so I'm a bit torn. The head-unit in the Volvo is not so great, so it's out. The Q7 will spend less time at the dealer, but I'd probably lease something like this, so I'm not particularly worried. Given the extra storage capacity, and the similar price, I'd probably go for the Disco TD6 in the end. With the upgraded head unit/electronic gauge display.

PugLordTR They've got the same results (the Audi is a bit better with additional isofix points), they also offer the same driver assistances. Volvo might have been better a few years ago but competitors are on the same level now.
Simon Vuille well first of all volvo's auto braking system is more advanced than the others and volvo is known for their safety i know that others are really safe as well but still there is something that makes volvo's just a bit more special on safety
Simon Vuille Volvo is light years in front when it comes to safety. while all car manufacturers try to reach the maximum on the safety test from euro NCAP volvo massively exceed them. they have been doing tests since the 1980's that euro NCAP only included in their tests in 2012. untill now no single car manufacturer has boldly claimed what volvo claims... by 2020 no deaths or serious injuries in a Volvo ... end of discussion.

Volvo did a great job with the XC90 but since it's been out for a few years, we've unfortunately learned how poor the reliability scores have been for them. I've been cross shopping the XC90 and the Q7. In the beginning I really loved the XC90 and thought that was my next vehicle but the 3.0 in the Q7 is winning me over.
Did you end up making a decision? The xc90 def did horribly in terms of reliability, I was in the same boat as you and it was pretty sad to see it because I really liked the xc90
@@OpticalToxin i crossed out the q5 because of the 7 speed dual clutch, strictly looking for 8 speed. Looking between a 985.2 cayenne vr6, Bmw x5 f15 35i , gle400 and the Q7 3.0t. Matt, rear climate is either optional or standard on the XC90, depending on the trim level, just like on the Q7 and the Disco, which both had this fitted for this review and yet this wasn't pointed out. The Q7 in this review was obviously heavily optioned including air suspension and you were testing the top trim level in the Disco, which includes air suspension as standard, so why not test the XC90 in its top Inscription trim level fitted with the optional air suspension for a more balanced review??
Rear climate is optional on the XC90, just as it is on the Q7 and Discovery but both test cars came fitted with it unlike the XC90 but this wasn't pointed out.
Comment in 2024 I have owned an Audi Q7 and currently have an XC90 . I dismissed the Discovery because the boot is not as good as the other two. Its narrow and not as deep. Packing up to the roof liner is not my idea of boot capacity. I am pleased with my XC90 recharge as it has decent electric only range 35 miles but the 4cyl engine is corse compared to the audi. Also the air supsoension I have is not worth the extra money as it still crashes over potholes. I will be going back to the audi Q7 when I change. Beautiful to drive and quiet and the new plug in hybrid has been improved.
I have the Volvo xc90 2017 r design, and this is my experience. Car is reliable, speakers are excellent. It has the sports tire so you feel all the bumps, upgrade it to a thicker tire and you won't feel the bumps, if you want fuel economy just stay away from it😂,if you want space as a big family then Volvo all the way. Will i buy a volvo again ? HELL YEAH!!!!!!
I’ve seen other videos of the discovery and they have the nicer looking discoveries with the black package. I don’t mind the one you show it’s just that it’s not as nice as the other reviewers vehicles. Especially as though the xc90 you were showing had the nicer rims unlike the discovery which had one of the not so good rims.
It's worth pointing out that the Volvo is greater than 2m wide. That means you can't go down certain roads. Many back roads say, "2m except for access" and also you can't go in the narrow lane on Motorway where there are roadworks - that is limited to 2m too. Let's face it, designed for the States, not the UK. Significant but no mention in your report! In general, your reports are excellent.

xaeler333 Everyone has their own opinion. What's there is all that it needs.
mr dinkleberg That's why I said it has a better interior than exterior. In my opinion.
Definitely the Volvo would be the best bang for your buck, especially here in Australia. The starting price of the Q7 here is 117k. The top of the line Xc90 T6 Rdesign is priced at 114k.
I like the Volvo it looks amazing
"Speck Savers for you"
I’m buying the XC90 perfect family car!!
And its very saftey to
yes
The Volvo hands down wins
Well you’re wrong
Totally agree with the conclusion of this review. I have a 2017 Q7 and it's a fantastic car! 100% satisfied.
Francois Lafortune you better sell it in the next 2 years before you start throwing money at it.
@@anchia7 i used to own audii tt rs old audi q7 now going fot the 2019 q7.
After my 150k km in my last 2 cars only the air suspension in the q7 needed to be replaced and i know that before beacuse my father owns 2 mercedes gls and bothe of them the air suspension needed to be replaced so from my side i didnt notice any problems with audi and in my family we alwayes extend the warranty just for the peace of mind wither its audi or bmw or mercedes anything with those cars need to be replaced and the warranty is expired will dig a hole in your wallet.
I’m about to buy one, this helped my confidence but I guess I was looking for it 😅
@@lasseclausen5876 amazing car. I’m getting one in the next 6 months or so, can’t wait.
@@dambo8416 Yeah me too within the next month. The deal is set I’m just making my final decision.
Just picked up 2019 XC90 and love the car. T6 is a beast with supercharger and turbocharge, and the one i picked up has Polestar which produces more hp. It's also very elegant and love the interior and seats.
How is the q7 best on tech when the xc90 has pilot assist auto steering and tons more automated features than the disco and the q7 put together?
Gary Campbell hahah You know nothing kid
danhalski excellent reply, that completely defeats my point!
Gary Campbell
Audi pre-sense front with collision avoidance assist and turn assist
When the system detects the risk of a collision with the vehicle in front a visual and acoustic warning is given to the driver followed by partial braking or at speeds under 19mph the system may apply full braking. In addition, the system will calculate if an appropriate evasion lane is available and apply supportive steering to aid the driver. If a crash is sensed the airbags will be pre-conditioned and the braking system prepared to assist with the necessary braking force once the brake pedal is touched. When turning at crossroads, from the moment the turn indicators are activated the turn assist system detects approaching vehicles and applies braking to help avoid a collision
Audi Active lane assist
Traffic jam assist
When activated and in conjunction with ACC the system uses the sensors and camera to detect vehicles ahead and on adjacent lanes. When a traffic jam is detected, the system will assist with the braking, accelerating and steering up to 37mph making your journey a more comfortable one
Predictive efficiency assist
All-wheel steering the best for me
You should have had the inscription package instead of the r design package on the XC90. It would have made a huge difference and I'm sure it would feel the most posh feeling. Also the base wheels are 19 inch which would change the ride quality drastically.
Absolutely agree with you. Also, not sure why he compares the Volvo diesel with the Audi v6. Would be more comparable with the Volvo T6 inscription where hp and 0-60 times are very close.
What's the benefit with inscription package?
Its volvos luxury trim. The R-design is the sport trim
Let's do the excellence 🤣
You do realize that these are loaners from the Dealers/Manufacturers the reviewers don’t have a say in what they get to review.
I own a Volvo XC90 2017... love it! Volvo all the way.. plus I will always stand by a company that cares about its customers lives and puts them first. Hands down it’s the safest car in the world, and that for me is the winner!
I would still go for the discovery, the luxury off-road monstrosity
I drive both, Q7 hands is more fun to drive ! More power.
Same
@@miguelfig32 Q7 is a car disguised as an SUV, the Discovery is a real SUV
Exterior: XC90
Interior: Audi/ Land Rover
Performance: XC90
my opinion :D
Overall i love how Volvo rises up to make a better car!
How can you rate the Volvo best for performance when it only comes with a 4cyl, no matter what power option you go for!?
stuco81 the engine size doesn’t matter when it stays level with adaptive dampers and air suspension and it can be specked to 400bhp so you can’t say anything about it being slow
Audi q7 drives like a rocket. Better than a range rover sport. Excellent cornering and always comfy inside
sure but the volvo is a much more luxury feel than the audi's sport feel
What happened to the rear of the discovery?
ShroomWalrus ohhh sorry
Designer clearly has a fat wife
Shit happened
ShroomWalrus lol
Designer got tired by the time he got to the back of the car. 😀
I love Audi, but the XC90 looks really cool 😎
I like all three but I'ld go for the Q7 for its engine & driving dynamics
The rear air vent in the Volvo is in the door pilar. ;)
Plus rear climate is optional on the XC90, just as it is on the Q7 and Discovery but both test cars came fitted with it unlike the XC90 but this wasn't pointed out.
Bruno Teixeira Audi has on in the door and the centre console
Stef L Audi is standard and a lot of cars ( cheaper) are starting to get them too
Bruno Teixeira brilliant invention :) just like in my 2010 a6 😂 and any other car thats made after 2008 😂
Volvo - Safety
Audi - Luxury
Disco - No nonsense Practicality
...Disco for me, all day.
Disco? Really? Did you ever had one? I had a Range Rover and suffered from too many to mention defects and problems. Never ever I'll buy a Landrover / Range Rover again!!!

XC 90 for the win, looks awesome

I have an XC90. It's awesome. One of my most favorite autos that I have bought.
Why is fridge not in more cars? Definitely see them as a great thing for longer trips when you want to keep your food and drinks cool after 3+ hours of driving
Wow so thankful that I found this video! I was about to get the XC90 but now I think the Q7 is the way to go for my family
you made a mistake, l can personally say xc90 better, as l own one!
I purchased the Volvo XC90, it is by far the best SUV in this comparison. I test drove all three & had them for a week, even though all are great cars, economically you still cannot beat the Volvo as best all around SUV.
I'm in the same boat now. Would you mind sharing what you feel a year later? What did you mean economically? Cheaper to run? Thanks!
Audi's new A4/A5/Q7 Platform has been a massive winner all round. Every segment has a car either at the top or near the top of its class.
Can someone please review the gls or the gls 63 mercedes somehow that SUV is so overlooked by every auto channel noOne seems to cover it. Everyone only covers the GLE OR THE ML
Nathan Guthrie yup. I bought a gl recently and literally only like 1 guy reviewed it
Judging by your UA-cam history, it's apparent that you don't know how to drive, nor do you have a license.. Not unless you're planning to purchase one in the future but looking at your UA-cam history, you can't be older than 15, 16 at a push..

the helper of the peopledems I'll give all the proof in the world to You
Tj Kandola the ml is phased out
A few years on and all the 3 models have received a face-lift now (June 2021).
I bought a 2017 xc90 been driving cars for 40 years and this is the best car i have ever owned
I love this guy more than the review.
the volvo has rear touch screen climate control and the load hight is much lower when you lower the air suspension and the 407 hp t8 model is wonderfull volvo all the way!
Dawn, I love those SUV's comparisons
ive tried the q7 WHICH indeed pretty impressive of the v6 3.0TDI,but just wondering how it compare with the inline 6 30d x5??
Logic less comparision. How come the Q7 won??It has the least boot space,Worst Third row and it won the Best 7 SEAT SUV comparision???
Gowtham Oleti if the 7 seats are the most important thing then buy a fucking van.
Bosnien Battlefielder ahahahah
Gowtham Oleti it had the best interior ,tech, comfort, sound isolation, and driving experience. That's why it won
It's a small thing called build quality, German build quality,
I'll admit, the Discovery has a design quirk, it probably isn't very reliable and it's very expensive. But I'd still pick out of the three as it works when the tarmac stops. Let's be honest, a car with as much ground clearance as these three cars, it's more or less expected of them to work off-road.
Volvo all the way
I LOVE the storage of the Land Rover, particularly the fridge arm rest which would be particularly useful for our hot summers in Australia, I can imagine putting a bottle of milk, some cheese and perhaps ham or fish in there which all spoil very quickly in heat, no under floor storage in the boot nor split tailgate is a letdown....I just wish I could afford any of these, so really my opinion is of little consequence...please let me win the lottery.
The Volvo has autopilot, no need to worry. Unlike the others.
And the only things, that ever managed to stop us were:
P3: a Harvester
P2: dead ends in the wood
P1: fallen trees
And cince I can think my grandparents driva a Volvo too: a V40 (predecessor unknown), and then two XC60s
And if my first car won't ba a Ford, it will be a Land Rover or a Volvo too.
So in a comparison of best 7 seater SUV, the SUV with the best third row ... loses???
Was patiently waiting for this review...
I have the Q7 and I am very pleased with it.
What year, what engine and hows the reliability?
I have q7 Model 2016 ( the newest) 3l V6 Diesel . Very nice car. Before the q7 i had a Mazda CX9. The CX9 was bigger but very thirsty (3,7 l V6 petrol) . Im german ✌🏻.
The only thing ive taken from this is that car inflation is RIDICULOUS
Well if safety is number 1 priority then volvo
PugLordTR They've got the same results (the Audi is a bit better with additional isofix points), they also offer the same driver assistances. Volvo might have been better a few years ago but competitors are on the same level now.
Simon Vuille well first of all volvo's auto braking system is more advanced than the others and volvo is known for their safety i know that others are really safe as well but still there is something that makes volvo's just a bit more special on safety
Simon Vuille They aren't on the same level. Funny enough you have to stress additional isofix solutions as an argument.
Simon Vuille
Volvo is light years in front when it comes to safety.
while all car manufacturers try to reach the maximum on the safety test from euro NCAP
volvo massively exceed them.
they have been doing tests since the 1980's that euro NCAP only included in their tests in 2012.
untill now no single car manufacturer has boldly claimed what volvo claims... by 2020 no deaths or serious injuries in a Volvo ...
end of discussion.
the xc90 is the safest car in the world, competitors are close, but the xc90 is best in this aspect
I own a VW Touareg and my Mrs has a Q7, we have used them on holiday trips across Europe and believe me I wunt want any other. Only negative with the Q7....66 reg is that it doesn’t come with a spare tyre do very tricky if you happen to get a puncture day in the remote areas of Eastern Europe.
You need the xc90 T8 it's packed with luxury
Volvo did a great job with the XC90 but since it's been out for a few years, we've unfortunately learned how poor the reliability scores have been for them. I've been cross shopping the XC90 and the Q7. In the beginning I really loved the XC90 and thought that was my next vehicle but the 3.0 in the Q7 is winning me over.
Did you end up making a decision? The xc90 def did horribly in terms of reliability, I was in the same boat as you and it was pretty sad to see it because I really liked the xc90
@@prabeeshsidhu still undecided, actually started leaning more toward the Q5 I just hate the screen on the late 2010s Q5s.
@@OpticalToxin i crossed out the q5 because of the 7 speed dual clutch, strictly looking for 8 speed. Looking between a 985.2 cayenne vr6, Bmw x5 f15 35i , gle400 and the Q7 3.0t. @@prabeeshsidhu 7 spd vs 8 spd doesn't make a difference to me. The Porsche is the only other from your list that I personally like.
Lets get something straight. In terms of quality the Volvo is miles a head of the Disco.
I have heard good things about Volvo but never own one, personally the look of discovery doesn’t work for me, I currently own a Audi Q5, did 500km drive yesterday and it made me realise how good this car is! If I ever need to upgrade it, it has to be q7 or q8.
They also make the t8 engines which make 400bhp which would fly past both cars
Rear climate is optional on the XC90, just as it is on the Q7 and Discovery but both test cars came fitted with it unlike the XC90 but this wasn't pointed out.
Xc90 first,
Discovery second,
Audi last. That is my choice
I have a 17 Q7 and I love it, would buy it over and over again
The Volvo just looks stunning, has to be one of the best looking SUVs ever made
Q7 is a road car like XC 90. Disco is the only one if you need to also do some off roading.
Descovery 5 🔥❤️🔥

Personally prefer the practicality of the disco, but disgusted with the reliability of these 3 euro brands here in Australia, especially the q7.
Volvo XC90 Inscription all the way. Interior in the inscription is gorgeous and it also gets air suspension.

My opinnion is:
If you want a very capable Off Road : Land Rover
If you want luxury : Audi
If you want practicallity : Volvo
Land Rover Discovery is just ruined with those looks! XC90 for me
The finger wiggling at the air vents from 4:19-4:22 looks addictive
Audi or Volvo. Volvo for me personally. Jaguar/Land Rover isn't relevant anymore and probably will be out of business in like 10 years.
I love Volvo so much I think they nailed the design for the XC90 and the XC60
Im so glad Volvo made it this far😌
Great Comparison Test. If was buying a Large SUV then I would choose the New Land Rover Discovery
Mate what are you on about, my XC90 R-design has climate control in the back even individually which can be managed from the infotainment as well
He must have borrowed one of those cars intended for crash tests
Does the middle row in the xc90 feel cramped with 3 adults ?
The Discovery frankly looks terrible! Loved the bellringer comparison! :D
