I was in the same boat as you. I was literally test driving the Q7 in 2017 and the paper work was all about complete accept for my signature. Durning the test drive I seen for the very first time the Crystal white pearl Volvo XC90 Inscription at a red light and was thinking thats a Volvo? The way the detail of the chrome and smooth front end and the Pearl came together. 2 days later I was driving one! Since they were fairly new around that time and people were not sure how the 4 cyc. Was going to hold up. But it’s a champ. I mostly drive around in dynamic mode and the Bowers can make you feel like your at a concert! Lease is up and now I’m thinking about the 21 S90 Inscription Recharge which replaces the T8!
@@MrRover30 I was looking at a well optioned Q7 Premium Plus that stickered for about $600 more than my XC90 T6 R-Design. That Q7 lacked air suspension, the top of the line audio system, auto self parking, and the full suite of driver and safety aids, which were only available on the Q7 Prestige trim (about $10,000 more). My XC90 came with all those options.
@Jesus Anaya These new generation of Volvo's are designed in Sweden and built in Europe with the exception of the S90 and hybrid XC60's. Geely funds Volvo's R&D and is fairly hands off otherwise from what I've read. Most Volvo's will be built in the U.S starting next year in South Carolina.

I was in the market deciding between these two but finally went with the XC90. Audi definitely has more tech and is performance oriented. The Volvo has good power too if you drive it in the dynamic mode. It all came down to two factors the design and comfort. I absolutely loved Volvo's design, sleek and sexy on the outside and so minimalist on the inside and the deciding factor was the those Volvo seats which were so damn comfortable and the cabin was so quiet I loved it.

With no offense intended for the Car Confections Channel, when you're spending that kind of money for a car, you really need to do the footwork and test drive the cars you are interested in. I find my tests indicated a far higher score for Volvo than Audi. That is surprising for me, as I was more interested in Audi than Volvo. As it was I got involved in the OSD (Over Seas Delivery )program with Volvo. I ordered the Xc90 and (planned) to picked it up in Sweden - Gothenberg and was taking a two week vacation then dropping it off and they would then deliver it to my dealer. This including round trio air fare, one night in a 5 star hotel and dinner along with a brunch and a tour of the factory with a substantial money savings to boot. Due to the Covid-19 issue things came to a grinding halt in March. I have since picked up the car at my dealer and I'm very happy with my choice
It really comes down to personal choice. I like the X90 looks but would prefer the drive of the Audi and I prefer Audi as a brand but it is all about personal choice. I am not into the whole sporty feel of cars that everybody bags on about in reviews and just prefer the more planted and smooth drive of a car especially for a family car.
I just got my 2017 Volvo S90 T6 inscription with the bower n Wilkins the sound is amazing not only that the CD player is in the console different but beautiful
I'd prefer the XC90 as it's interior looks more richer to me. The piano black in the Q7 looks like it will be hard to keep clean and will get scratched easily.
You guys did a really great job side by side. Like that. We bought a 2019 XC90 last year and after a year of ownership we are still absolutely in love. That little 4 cyl. Has no problem on the Autobahn Here in Germany. By far one of the most comfortable cars owned. So far we only needed an oil change and quick recall update on the auto brake /self driving function. When the roads were wet or the sun very bright it did try and steer you into the Jersey walls.
@Jesus Anaya so far after a year it's just fine. Although we only have like 17,000km or 10k miles. It's still very smooth shifting... We took it on a trip up north this summer about 10 hours each way. Was a joy. The only issue we did have was with the auto driving function wanting to drive me into a wall. But that was a known issue and corrected by a recall this spring. 😁
@@siggelindell1931 volvo has fake exhausts too😂. They always put big squared ones on the outside but if you look closely the real exhaust stops earlier and is small and round and not connected to the big ones outside. Almost every luxury car brand does that nowadays
Just bought the XC90 and love it. Curious to know if the Q7 has the hands free sensory to the rear hatch or a program like Volvo on Call. I love being able to control features from my phone and the nice reminder that my “Doors are unlocked.”
I would have subtracted 3 points from Audi just for all that fingerprint magnet gloss finish! Not that the Volvo didn't have it, but across the entire damn dash?!
We have Volvo XC90 D5 (235 hp diesel), bought new back in January 2018 and it's really great with economy (open road 7.2 L / 100 km or about 32 mpg). I just drove it this evening without any destination in mind and was just enjoying Bowers & Wilkins sound. It's out of this world when your sound comes from 19 speakers, each and every one of those sounds isolated in perfect harmony. What I dislike about it is 4 stroke engine. It needs 6 or 8 cylinders to be proper SUV. That's the only reason why I was looking at Audi, or to be specific at SQ7 4.0 TFSI. Only problem holding me back is second thing I dislike about Volvo, residual... I probably lost over 50-55% in these almost 4 years of ownership, and on top of sale value, I'd need to add almost full price of brand new standard Volvo to get in SQ7, only to face another residual nightmare in few years time. Leasing is not option for me. So far, I decided not to change anything and keep enjoying my XC90 with less than 50k kilometers on clock (it's my second/third car, mostly used for trips, etc.)
Hi Drew and Mason 🙂. I'm leaning toward Volvo here because it's the only Swedish brand left since Saab discontinued. Volvo to me has always been a unique brand that's different from its rivals, different in a good way. I'm so looking forward to the content you two have coming to your channel this week.
3 things that the Volvo wins in that are not mentioned in this review are: 1- Crash test safety. the XC90 is the safest car in the world 2- Offroading capabilities. The XC90 can literally take you anywhere and I myself first hand tried my T6 XC90 in the Kuwaiti desert many times 3- on the XC90 inscription trim you can get the 19 speaker B&W sound system which is the first of its kind in the world and it is better than any other car i have tried.
Just bought a 2023 Volvo S60 over a BMW 330i m sport. It was the Volvo interior that sold me. It’s so much more elegant and simple. The BMW didn’t feel special on the inside, the bmw does have more performance and driving Dynamics, but the Volvo have the classic and elegant look.
The costly repairs for the turbo charged and super-charged Volvo engine will be interesting and fun to when it start having issues. Only reason why I avoided getting one.
4 years later and this vehicle is still one of the most timeless vehicles on the road! I love refinement of this model and the XC60. I hope that Volvo will continue to produce both models for years to come. I am looking forward to trading my 2010 XC60 in for a 2024 XC90. While I've read that there have been a few issues with the late models I will just make sure to have a good extended warranty. I will take care of it like I've done with the XC60 which is close to 200K miles.
Owned a 2016 XC90 RDesign, and now have a Q8. The new Q7 shares a lot of the Q8, but differs in cargo room and styling. That being said, I I find both interiors to be high class and well made. Seats are comfortable in both. The Volvo T6 engine with the added Polestar tune gave me ample passing and on-ramp power for the heavy vehicle it is. However, the Audi V6 sounds better and has better overall pulling power through upper revs. The Volvo sounds raspy. The Audi excels at sound insulation and ride quality, even with 22 inch wheels on my Audi. Lastly, I find that screen orientation matters. While the center stack screens are close in size, I find the horizontal layout of the Audi preferred. If you use CarPlay, the vertical orientation ruins the CarPlay experience as the CarPlay is intended for a horizontal viewing experience. I see the comments on the piano black trim and finger prints on the touchscreens. You don’t really see finger prints head on when the screen is active. But it is no big deal to stash a microfiber cloth on the console and wipe it down every now and then. No biggie.
I have the 2016 XC90 and the 4 cyl engine has adequate acceleration but I don't enjoy driving it as much as my Audi as it feels like a 4 cylinder engine working as hard as it can. Much harsher feel and sound to it. I also don't like the MMI near as much, trying to change radio stations can be a chore. They both are very well equipped and feel equally luxurious. The Audi is much smoother, the Volvo has better adaptive cruise. They are both great but I'd buy the Audi over the Volvo just because of the engine. I liked Audi's old MMI much better than the Volvo but not sure the 2020 Audi will be much better than Volvo's, I like some manual knobs it makes frequent adjustments much easier.
Uuum guys ... the Volvo T8 Inscription is the top level. I ❤️ mine. I have the Crystal White pearl exterior/blonde interior. I chose the Volvo because of its uncluttered Scandinavian look (yes I’m Swedish) and thankfully devoid of the piano black facia. I leave my Bowers & Wilkins sound system on “concert hall” mode ... it’s as though I’m sitting 15 yards away from the Conductor of the National Orchestra of Sweden in Gotenburg except I’m sitting in a heated, leather seat that’s much more comfortable. The sound of the string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments is energized and precise. And driving in Southern California, we LIVE in our cars 🙄. The only advantage Audi has over Volvo in IMHO is Google Maps which is outstanding BUT I already know where I’m driving so it wasn’t something I couldn’t live without. Add in the 3 year maintenance being covered and it was a no brainer for me. Finally, as you know, SAFETY is of paramount importance at Volvo. Btw, out here Pasadena, Rusnak Auto Group has the Audi, BMW, and Volvo dealership so it was an easy comparison between the two. I say two because I’d NEVER own a beemer. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
I checked out both. Both are great cars. My wife and I are still deciding after driving both. Here are my gripes. I really don’t like one screen for Hvac and audio in the Volvo. You have to shuffle to change basic things. To me either keep it separate with knobs or like what Audi did. Folding down the seats. The Volvo is a pia, complicated and not fun. Q7 has a powered 3rd row standard which is awesome and the 2nd row is hydraulic assisted.
The biggest problem with Volvo is the engines. Having solely 2 litre 4 cylinders is not good enough. The fuel gains go down the drain in such a big car since the engine is too stressed moving around such a large car. You'll find the larger engined rivals are actually more efficient. Especially the diesels.
Telluride is beautiful but no comparison because it’s not in “ luxury “ class and it’s just a Hyundai that will die at 100k miles that’s why I returned my 2020 Palisade and bought a Q7
You guys do great reviews. I agree the Volvo comes out very slight ahead of the Audi. My only criticism is awarding the amount of points on the price difference at this level of vehicles. I don't think the price is difference is as much of a differentiator for people buying these types of vehicles. I would reduce the amount of points awarded for price differences when the prices are above $60,000 or make it proportional to the price.
You guys ever consider doing a nighttime review to highlight exterior & interior lighting (including ambient)? Some of the higher end models like you’ve been reviewing are spectacular at night - I was with a friend in an Audi the other night - illuminated interior gauges, buttons and ambient accents knocked my socks off - might be another thing you guys could fold in somehow -like an extra few minutes to your already great reviews. Just a thought.
We have thought about it.. but our current equipment seems to struggle with the lighting situation. We might try some other options like dusk or dawn to see if that works better
In the long run, for the money and overall value, I gotta go with the Volvo. And I could do without some options at the price level shown to take the price down even further if there's any.
Audi has excellent safety as well. Volvo is still a preference though for safety. If Volvo could just increase their reliability a fraction they probably will dominate the luxury market.
Audi design is messy. That front grill looks hideous. Some would day downright ugly. Looks cheap compared to the Volvo. The XC90 on the other hand looks elegant and exudes class.
Based purely on looks XC90 is a clear winner for me. Understated elegance and attention to details in a minimalistic language..... (It also beats the BMW X-series now that BMW has changed their grill to overlapping the bonnet space, which in my opinion is vulgar looking and a big design mistake on their behalf.)
When Audis’ after market service left a bad taste in my mouth…we had to evolve to Volvo, honestly the Q7 was our next choice after the Q5 2T Quattro , we couldn’t wash out the bad taste so we eVolv(o)ed. XC90 D4 Rdesign later we couldn’t be more happier with our choice. Audis are aesthetically pleasing but are lacking in many compared to the Volvo…Reliability being the first
Volvo definitely wins on design in and out. Unfortunately I don't think you could say the same for engineering or reliability. Audi will probably be a better ownership experience overall.
Awesome comparison guys! This one was one that I really didn’t know how it was going to end! By the way, y’all are awesome! Any updates on the keying situation or the bee situation?😸😻😸
idk. I think Audis dynamic turn signals are a plus, along with the matrix led lights. Volvos interior dash is starting to look a bit dated and I definitely think Audi wins in their even longer extensive list of cutting edge safety systems. I do like Volvos seats more but that's just about it.
Guys thank you for this review. No one did such a advance review as you did, exactly what I was looking for and the result it was as I expected win for the Volvo. Please continue with similar reviews. (Subb’d)
You guys are very lucky, for the Indian markets they started REDUCING the safety features even for the high end XC90 Inscription trim too and we pay a much much higher price than the other markets Which means that they are planning on exiting from this market, as I always thought that SAFETY was THE CORE VALUE OF VOLVO Also for the 2020 model they have removed the total safety features of the backside and is not such a safe car anymore in India. I was shocked to know that VOLVO who claim their core value to be be SAFEST cars, have done away with nearly 30% of the safety systems in the Indian market
After seeing this video and the comparison video between XC90 vs Q7, I purchased XC90 2020. I love the SUV but I am really disappointed by the cabin voice level. At the intersection with engine turn off I can hear all the cars passing by and even going on the highway at speed of 75mph I can hear most of the noise from the road. I traded in my 2015 MDX for XC90 and MDX had much better noise level. I got my XC90 checked at the dealership to make sure that there was nothing wrong with my XC90 but they said that this is the general noise level from all XC90s. I want to ask you guys am I suppose to hear all the cars passing by when I am standing at the intersection with the engine turned off?
I just junked my xc90 with 175k miles on it. There are so many reviews for brand new cars. How many people are spending 75k on a car? I want to know how well these cars are after 100k miles.
I would suggest you change your model for assign points for price difference. Someone in the market for a $20-25k car is price sensitive to $3,500 price difference. Someone spending $75k is not as sensitive to that amount because it represents a ich smaller percentage of the price. Rather than assigning 0.5 points for a $1k, I suggest you assign 0.5 points for a 5% difference in price.

I'm so looking forward to the content you two have coming to your channel this week.
there is also Koenigsegg
tim I don’t think the average person can afford a Konninsegg 😂
you are right!
tim Hahhaha I wish I could have one tho. Just me and my Grandmas old VW Jetta. 😂
Except Volvo is now owned by the Chinese.
3 things that the Volvo wins in that are not mentioned in this review are:
1- Crash test safety. the XC90 is the safest car in the world
2- Offroading capabilities. The XC90 can literally take you anywhere and I myself first hand tried my T6 XC90 in the Kuwaiti desert many times
3- on the XC90 inscription trim you can get the 19 speaker B&W sound system which is the first of its kind in the world and it is better than any other car i have tried.
Do you have a source to share that VOLVO is the safest car? Very interested
Audi is more exclusive and special.. I like its stout-muscle looking side and the low profile. Engineering is much better ofc also..
The new Q7 looks like the original Q7
I love that
@Chezzamaine
Youre blind then
Good catch
Thanks guys, it was very interesting presentation comparing those two vehicle. Definitely Volvo is the best ever! Even looks more comfortable indoor.
The AUDI Q8 is a different animal. I love to see a comparison too?
We own a Audi Q7 2020 it’s a very nice comfortable car!
It seemed he went out of his way to gush over the Volvo, almost turned me off from watching.
Excellent comparison. I prefer the appearance of the Volvo, inside and out. The rest is so close as it makes no difference.
Thanks!
Before I start watching, I know the XC90 will win
Q7 is becoming more of an estate with every upgrade.
Audi Q7
All day
I’d take the maintenance record and costs of the Volvo vs. Audi any day. Owned two Volvo’s...never had issues.
Volvo looks more majestic and very comfortable.
Fr
Drive an XC90 hybrid. It’s my favorite car I’ve ever had. So happy with it.
I go for Q7 🌻😁
It will not let you down 👍
The costly repairs for the turbo charged and super-charged Volvo engine will be interesting and fun to when it start having issues.
Q7 👍👍👍👍
Keep up the great work 👍🏻
The Volo Excellence is the top I believe
I love the speed of this review. Very useful content. 👍🏼Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!
I bought the Telluride Nightfall Edition over the two! And I’m so glad I did!🤗
Telluride is beautiful but no comparison because it’s not in “ luxury “ class and it’s just a Hyundai that will die at 100k miles that’s why I returned my 2020 Palisade and bought a Q7
no comparison. Thats an economy car with a history (Kia) of terrible engineering and driving dynamics and horrible drivetrain reliability.
Thanks for the feedback! We've actually just made an adjustment after this video to change the price points to be proportional to price 👍
Understand - with whatever camera, those interior ambient/backlights would really pop in some models; you guys do good work - keep it going!
VOLVO XC90😍
that is a pretty big difference in terms of scores (a 20% difference).
Really I love VOLVO XC90....super fantastic exterier and intiries design....💞💞💞💞💞💞Super Classy look
There is a wireless charger in he XC90 but it is hidden underneath the walnut rollback that hides the cupholders as well.
And my son asked if it was to recharge the key…..He is 8
Right now these are my two favorite brands.
“Now let’s see how they drive”.".. goes down a one way in the wrong direction. 😂😂
I love the XC90!
In the long run, for the money and overall value, I gotta go with the Volvo. And I could do without some options at the price level shown to take the price down even further if there's any.
In Europe the xc90 2020 car is mild hybrid, what car would you rather be in in the event of a crash? The Volvo.
Audi has excellent safety as well. Volvo is still a preference though for safety. If Volvo could just increase their reliability a fraction they probably will dominate the luxury market.
Proud owner of a 2022 Q7. Engine, ride quality and looks of a Q7 are way ahead of XC90.
Q7 tail light , front light are so cool 😎
The VOLVO EXCELLENCE is very nice
I'm sure my Volvo days will come eventually when I'm 60+, but as of now, I'm happy with my Q7.
Volvo xc90 for me! Thank you!
Audi design is messy. That front grill looks hideous. Some would day downright ugly. Looks cheap compared to the Volvo. The XC90 on the other hand looks elegant and exudes class.
Agreed! that front looks like someone went too far with the plastic surgery... and nobody’s told her yet. 😹
XC90 all day long for me. I agree with your accessment as well. Thanks guys, very informative.
Glad you liked the comparison 👍
Xc90 best
Facts to support your statement?
check both cars's sales in both the US and Europe, XC90 beats Q7 in most recent years in both continents
Awesome comparison guys! This one was one that I really didn’t know how it was going to end! By the way, y’all are awesome! Any updates on the keying situation or the bee situation?😸😻😸
Thanks! If you check the end of the Elantra owner update, we talk about the resolution of the bee situation
Yep, I hear about the smell! Have they been back though?
idk. I think Audis dynamic turn signals are a plus, along with the matrix led lights. Volvos interior dash is starting to look a bit dated and I definitely think Audi wins in their even longer extensive list of cutting edge safety systems. I do like Volvos seats more but that's just about it.
Thank you for this very informative video. 👍👍👍
I bought q7 because of you guys, thanks a lot
Glad to help! Congrats on your Q7!
Nice comparison, however you should throw the 2020 BMW X5 into the mix with the 3rd row.
X5 has three rows?
I like XC90.
you missed the electric rear seat fold-down and quotro AWD which is the best in the world for snow and bad weather.
It’s just a stupid Torsen diff, a lot of other cars use it, it’s not ‘the best’.
Guys thank you for this review. No one did such a advance review as you did, exactly what I was looking for and the result it was as I expected win for the Volvo. Please continue with similar reviews. (Subb’d)
Thanks and glad you enjoyed! Welcome to the Car Confections family! 😁
You guys are very lucky, for the Indian markets they started REDUCING the safety features even for the high end XC90 Inscription trim too and we pay a much much higher price than the other markets
Which means that they are planning on exiting from this market, as I always thought that SAFETY was THE CORE VALUE OF VOLVO
Also for the 2020 model they have removed the total safety features of the backside and is not such a safe car anymore in India.
I was shocked to know that VOLVO who claim their core value to be be SAFEST cars, have done away with nearly 30% of the safety systems in the Indian market
Are indian auto import taxes high. If they are it probably explains what is happening.
Why the dislikes? It was a great comparison, big thumbs up from me.
Thanks! Glad you liked it 😁
In the future could you play the same song in each car so it's easier to compare the difference.
yall have the 2023 comparisons?
Oh yeah!!! Can’t wait to watch this!
Can we compare the XC90 electric package with the Tesla?
I'm from Brazil and left my like
I would suggest you change your model for assign points for price difference.
Actually, we quite like that idea! Thanks for recommending that because it makes a lot of sense
XC90 is the more elegant of the two and would age a lot better.
Volvo any day for me 😉
I have a better battle
*Car Confections vs. Redline Reviews*
Car confections all the way
To be honest- that would be a hard choice.
Redline
What was the db level? Which one was quieter!
I don't know why everyone say Audi has the best quality... Lolz... It's 75 Grand and it has plastic all over.... Cheapp...
I think so too, audi, bmw, has very expensive optional prices also relevant
Cartik that goes for bmw too. I know from experience freaking cheaply made bs
