- Meet the new Volvo XC90!
Volvo’s 7-seater behemoth has been updated, and it has competitors like the Land Rover Discovery and Audi Q7 in its sights! But is it the smart choice? Let’s find out…
For starters, the exterior design hasn’t changed much compared to the old model. Although that’s not exactly a bad thing! Sure it’s pretty chunky, but what do you expect from a 7-seat SUV?! Either way, seeing a few more updates would have been nice.
Take a step inside, and it’s a similar story! You’ll find some new extra-comfortable seats up front, along with a few updates such as a wireless charging pad, but otherwise, it’s all pretty similar to the old XC90. There’s a large portrait infotainment screen on the dash, but to be honest, it’s all a bit old-fashioned now. At least the cabin is full of soft-touch, nice materials.
Under the bonnet, there’s not much to choose from, with all XC90s rolling up with a 2-litre 4-cylinder engine. The range-topper is the T8 plug-in hybrid we have here, with the engine combined with an electric motor to deliver 455hp.
Prices for the XC90 start from just north of £60,000… But is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Describe the Volvo XC90 in ONE word below!
Awesome
Sweden.
bruh
VOLVO!
Volvo
Crazy to think it's been on the road for 8 years. Beautiful design both in and out.
Yup it is. It doesent look like it has been a long time here. Looks still new
It's been on the road for 21 years, but close, I guess (?)
@@eufori10 This design.
@@eufori10 Matti is talking about the SPA platform XC90 not the XC90 in general. If you are in the market, don't do it.
I have 2022 xc90 hybrid, pretty much same. Terrible car, so many issues, barely have 20k miles.
How the xc90 doesn't get more love over the range rover is criminal. Best front end in the business
nah, front end is ok on the volvo...just ok. Still immature design language
Range Rover is vastly better looking, refined and good looking
And then you go inside, and the volvo just craps itself completely. Looks garbage. Chinese lack of taste all the way, no design, no nothing.
@@ElGoogKOeven if Volvo is owned by a Chinese brand, the interior is more Sweden than Chinese.
That’s what she said.
Not a fan of SUVs in general, but talking about Volvo's design, they look very nice, especially the estates.
@@ElGoogKO By your logic the Range Rover was designed entirely in India? The Volvo does not compare well because it is much cheaper by some way than the RR.
The good thing about them not updating it visually, is it shows how much uglier the re-designs for the other manufacturers have been.
Problen with that is Volvo will eventually be forced to change that because of others manufacturers, otherwise it will lag behind. Think about it, if all manufacturers frequently change their designs making them look more futuristic as time goes by and yet still sell as many, it means that regardless of people think of that, they still buy them, which in a way means that it either doesn't matter to them, or it does and people buy them for that exact reason. Personally, the new BMW look looks more attractive in my eyes and I prefer 100% over ANY old style design.
@@emiliospowerballer1441 looks like a walrus tho
Every car is changing for the better except for Volvo, they’re outdated and so much behind interior / exterior wise
are you referring specially to bmw lol
@@emiliospowerballer1441 check ex90 and see if it looks outdated
It’s a great car and nice to have a luxury SUV that isn’t pretentious.
It's horribly pretentious, as is any SUV
@@awareofvacuity4238 I think he meant, it's not just another BMW/Mercedes/Audi ?
@@awareofvacuity4238 It is not as bad as a Range Rover, American SUVs, German cars, or British cars, however. It is understated by any metric. SUVs are not all vulgar lumps of metal
@@f0XxXxXxX I think you are confusing those with Kia and Hyundai
It’s horribly horribly unreliable though it’s really sad 😞
Matt: the non-adjustability of the headrests is actually deliberate and is a safety feature to reduce/eliminate whiplash injuries during a potential rapid deceleration. Volvo have had such headrests for 20+years or so. They never make them adjustable. I personally believe it is a good thing, and you could perhaps explain the reasoning in your future videos on Volvos. Great review also! Thanks!
Such a great timeless design. I've driven the XC60 and loved it, well apart from the white seats lol
XC60 still rocks. And the XC90 also. This design of new Volvos are aging just fine like old fine wine. 😃
@@MrTribalsun XC60 still as amazing as even Escalade EXT.
I hated the XC60, the jnterior quality is unbelievably bad.
@@purwantiallan5089 Yo, youre like a pest! Nothing against it though. Carry on!
@@Felix1803 well, I love mine ❤
We love our XC90 Recharge. Third row stays folded 99% of time. We are averaging 50-60mpg overall. Power is excellent! Elegant, comfortable and easy to live with.
I love my XC90, and after owning a few Land Rovers it’s nice to start a journey knowing you’re not going to break down on the way.
Hi
Volvo also breaks down
Umm 3 friends I know with this vehicle have had them in service shops often and all the consumer report say they break alotttt so keep those fingers crossed 🤞🏾 😅
You know Land Rover is terrible in reliability when someone is thankful for a late-model Volvo. Nice!
Then you got a rare one buddy.
Sold our XC90 2005 a year 1/2 ago. Had some crazy tech in it for the time, had some “fun times” in van mode 😏
Really really miss it
Mat, Lol can't believe I've been waiting for you to test this and the one thing you did not do was the 0-60. Feels quicker than 5.2 that's stated. So happy with mine
In a family hauler, is that so important?
@@deansmits006 that's why there are different engine options, each to their own :)
@@deansmits006 yeah do kind of agree with you, but there is such a variant from 4.5 upto 5.7 secs through the various youtube reviews.....and to be fair @Matwatson is only famous because of his timing gear 😜
I very much doubt that you will be able to feel a fraction of a second in acceleration.
Right!?
Another example of a very famous Volvo is the XC60. It still rocks. 2018 world car of the year.
And the XC90 also. This design of new Volvos are aging just fine like old fine wine. 😃
Simple high-end to present what it is like in Scandinavia. Love it!
I had one of these last year as a replacement for our 2019 Cayenne S while it was being repaired and my initial impression was it was really good, great interior, fast but also really good midrange performance (compared to the Cayenne) but I hated the lane assist. Turned it off but it still kept vibrating the steering wheel. Biggest problem was though it kept throwing a drive train error and failed to start on numerous occasions even though it had only done 60 miles.
Don’t like hybrids, they have all the complication of a ice and ev combined.
The problem with Volvo is that they’re punching well above their weight limit. Compared to other mid-level brands they’re good car, yet pricey. In the premium levels, they just don’t bring it in terms of quality, performance, reliability and character.
@@daviddereuver 😂
@@daviddereuver XC60 still the heaviest alongside Escalade EXT.
@@purwantiallan5089 It was meant figuratively, the "weight limit"
Worst seat ever for kids.
I’ve had an XC90 V8 (2009) and T8 (2016). They’re just fantastic, elegantly designed, and bulletproof for safety and reliability. Saving up for an EX90…
An honest test and very modern Volvo. Even 15 years ago I didn't have turn signals in the outside mirrors😅
Our XC90 is a brilliant car. Absolutely love it. Hugely reliable and the hybrid is good (albeit not enough miles on our model - 30). The drive mode thing is genuinely terrible though and the interface feels old now. We're a bit unsure if we want to keep it or downgrade to a smaller car or not, albeit it's just so massive and really useful.
If you run it on electric-mode a lot then its great for efficiency. We've seen mid-50's, but a lot lower in winter. And actually it's quite fast, faster than you should really drive it because it's still a bit of a boat 😂
We also deliberately specified it with smaller wheels/taller sidewalls and it makes the ride better and hugely protects the alloys
Agree. But XC90 has $750k price tag.
@@purwantiallan5089 umm does it?
@@harriska I think he meant 75k lol
@@trulux8395 He's one of those that wants 10 of the same car. Like the people who own the same 10 suits lol
I have a 2019 XC60 and honest the infotainment in it is nicer than the current models, I've had loan cars while getting it serviced and much prefer getting back into the older model. Having a physical gate on the gearshift rather than just up or down, being able to change drive modes off a physical switch just easier. Even stuff like aircon, turning off stop/start etc is just faster/more intuitive.
One of the reasons we recline the 2nd row seats also is because we want to carry a whole adult size casket🙊, it's a nice SUV though. I like the fabric on the seats, Volvo took a different turn on this one.
It's cheaper for the company than using leather
Off the top of my head they have changed: extended range on t8s, redesigned chrome inlays for front, new alloy options, new radar and camera system, Google infotainment, wool interior, wireless charger, new panoramic roof switches, new interior inlays of wood, removing and hiding of exhaust tips, addition/replacements of 12v with usb c, changed interior lights to capacitive.
So... sadly nothing meaningful
@@MagicWok that's because the ex90 is already announced, not going to devalue the next product
Almost 8M subscribers! Congratulations! What an amazing channel…
Matt, the reason the headrests are not adjustable is to prevent people adjusting them for comfort, rather than safety.
After all, no recorded fatalities in a XC90 since records began.
Except ua-cam.com/video/forKDgmvnfo/v-deo.html
The issue with that is that depending on height it might not suit you for safety
@@JonathanGray_UK the single biggest issue of XC90 is being overweight.
No fatalities because only the most flaccid, boring people own them.
@@jeeefthegreat7555 so interesting people are the ones that drive in a manner that has them die in car crashes? Boy I’d so not love to be a part of your friend circle…
Hey carwow ! I found your website very interesting. I hope that you will come to India someday! Love you matt!
On my third XC90 mark 2 - we had a diesel one and two T8s. It’s very difficult to find much better even after 8 years in production. For reference fuel economy on a long run in a T8 is typically 35-40mpg (I did a 200 mile run yesterday with an average of 37) so it’s not quite as bad as you think. If you push on that will plummet - 18mpg when thrashed across country (but it is fun)
Would you recommend the diesel version? What’s the real world mpg like? Cheers
@@Himoutdoors The Diesel is pretty good - smooth and quiet and has more go than you might expect. We got mid 30’s MPG most of the time.
Mat thank you so much for this insane video!
I’ve got the B5D & get nearly 50mpg on the motorway & about 30mpg in town , it also gets roughly 30 mpg towing my caravan. Surprisingly the 4 cylinder is more than adequate.
Do you get the same issue regarding a bit flinty ride? Lots of reviews discuss it
@@deansmits006 yes & no , on a rubbish road surface the ride isn’t the best (I don’t have air) but on normal to decent the ride is what you would expect on a car of this price.
Because it’s twin charged lol
@@shoombooltala24 no it’s not , the euro spec diesels only have 1 turbo.
How slow are you driving on a motorway to get 50mpg? I just about scrape 30mpg. The official figure is 40mpg.
I assume the slider next to the 12 v doesn't shut on purpose so it allows space for connected cables to come out without getting trapped? 🙂👍
We now own the 2nd Volvo XC90 II and after nearly 8 years it's still one out of the best looking suv's out there.
Sure the screen could and should have been upgraded already, but other than that its a pure beauty.
In my opinion I prefer the estate V90 Version, looking wise
@@Stefan_xd Agree!

Cool glasses! 😎 Funny presentation. 😋 Keep up the good work. 👍
Great test, thanks! Have you launched it from 0 to 60?
I love that car. My parents are driving this. I have driven this car and its amazing
You forgot to mention the voice activation its very good and operates most systems on a volve works well on my XC40 👍👍
Have an original D5 200 bhp from 2011. 174,000 miles on it now. Heated electrically adjustable leather seats, dual zone climate control, Bluetooth, cruise, 7 seats. Absolutely everything works, and I would (and often do) jump in it and drive 200 miles without so much as a moment of worry or discomfort. Tows 1300kg occasionally as well without breaking a sweat.
Keep on top of maintenance and Volvos will run forever. I hope this new stuff is as well engineered.
Thank you so much for the Video. Can you also make a video of the frontal collision avoidance. How it works if a car in front of you stops.. I am not asking about the pilot assist but the normal frontal collision mitigation.
I tested a few 7 seaters with the intention of buying one a few years ago - Q7, X5, Discovery, Range Rover and XC90 Hybrid. The XC90 impressed me the most. I had low expectations but was blown away. Turns out I couldn’t afford any of the vehicles brand new at that time and had to settle for a secondhand Q7 🤷🏾♂️ Nice car but XC90 is the one. If you know, you know.
What are some things you didnt like about the Q7? That made you choose the Volvo?
@@williamhickerson7673 I loved everything about the Q7 - it was the best car I’d owned at that time - I actually miss it at times. It had DVD players in the head rests which kept the kids quiet. A good blend of comfort and power. Fuel economy wasn’t great and the cost of maintenance/tyres/servicing/insurance was a shock - but I enjoyed it while I had it.
Its good for people who want something subtle or maybe for older people, but honestly for the same price you can get an x5 which looks better inside and out and it has multiple powertrains for whatever someone is looking for.
Did they remove the scroll wheel next to start/stop button that allows you to select driving modes? My 2018 XC90 has it.
Was waiting for the review like for ages))
I can't wait to see CarWow's review on the XC90 full EV. Hope Volvo does the same with the XC60. The XC 40 full EV is doing pretty good so far in sales, reviews, performance and quality.
Pro tip: If you had a knee surgery and you are over 2 meters tall and your not allowed to bend your knee so you cant get in any seats. You can fold the 2nd row away so you can sit in the 3rd row and strech out your legs on to the back of the folded 2nd row. (saved me a lot of time)
Noted. Thank you.
Great video. Wife picked up a PHEV XC90 this years and it's awesome. Making me seriously consider a Volvo.
I am looking forward to a Review on the new Polestar 3. Anything planned regarding that?
Why didn't you check it of acceleration 0-60 and brakes?
It's quick enough, stops well enough. I'm sure it's not the best, but ok for it's purposes
Best looking front end. Change my mind
Only matched by it's younger sibling, the upcoming EX90 😮
ex90 is fully charged Mat 👍🏼😀 Love your videos big Love from Afghanistan 🇦🇫 😊
That Intro got me rolling
As a former Volvo owner I am still drawn to the product out of intrigue for the newer models. I drove 740 GLE Wagon for 26 years, v-240 for 4 months, XC-90 for three years. Sadly after it had 2 new engines for it in less than 18 months due to a known (little disclosed oil pan filter issue) I chose not to drive it off the dealers again due to the lack of confidence in it. I still like this XC-90, and the XC-60. How ever I drive a 2012 Ford Escape, low mileage. Purchased in 2017, I have only had to replace tires and change the oil. The draw of these new models has appeal but I have more sense than money these days so I'll drive the Ford to the grave like I did my 86 740-GLE Wagon.
One of the most practical car around
I love the Volvos, growing up we’ve always had Volvos as well. Only thing I can’t understand is why they removed the drive mode knob
My dad has one of these and has averaged 180mpg in his first 2k miles. All depends how you drive them. They're great
Did you forget the specialist timing gear ?
Fantastic car and what a great and fair review (aside from the absence of 0-100 km/h test 🏁). Thanks Mat & Carwow: this is exactly what the XC90 is.
We have the 2017 T8 version, same specs: best car ever purchased. We added wireless Carplay and wireless charging with 2 adapters (factory look) and we still have the physical button for drive mode 😉 I am so happy Volvo kept the shape and did not make changes. It is a solid car that we use 90% in EV mode and it yield 2 litres/100km average since ownership. I can’t believe in 2023 it is still the same car, but so happy, such and beautiful, solid and timeless design. The seats are so comfortable and audio performance so amazing.
The gap between the 2nd and 3rd row on van mode is because the 2nd row was not all the way back (as you mentioned they are adjustable).
The XC90 VOLVO has 279kph top speed and a 0 to 60mph in 3.95 seconds.
Its not same spec actually. This version has the upgraded battery and eletric engine. 50-60% more range and the power output went from 92hp to 140hp on the eletric motor and twice the torque. I know since I have both and it makes a big difference on daily drive. But either is great nontheless.
@@farmacianova3509 Absolutely. Thanks for pointing that out. I meant same overall specs as in trim level (Inscription 2). I would love to have the latest model just for the One pedal driving option which I believe is present.
Best review so far, love that British humor
Excellent review Mat!😸
No launch test? Is your specialist timing gear broken, Matt? 😧
When discussing the 5 good things Matt said the remote can help you locate the car via the panic button. Isn’t that pretty standard on most vehicles?
Not really... Many cars still don't have it nowadays.
It used to be a "standard" feature back in the days, where either there's a dedicated alarm button on the key fob, or pressing the car lock button twice will trigger the alarm of the vehicle. But recently a lot of key fobs lack that feature.
If you own a 2023 XC90 and have the Volvo cars app it will give you the vehicle location on Google maps (might also work with earlier versions, but I don't know for sure).
wowthis car is amazing..Practicality on point
Did they get rid of the booster seat? I didn't catch it in this review. Middle seat in the 2nd row used to fold up earlier into a booster seat, which was cool.
I owned this car for more than 3 years. Wonderful piece of engineering. The only annoying about it just the sound of the indicator. Sometimes it skip a beat.
The XC40 is the same.
Sometimes it doesn’t come on at all and sometimes it stops mid signalling.
I’ve nearly snapped the stalk many-a-time putting it ‘back on’.
Took it back twice and incredibly it was fine for the workshop. 👎
Haha - same in my 2021 S60! ;)
It does that deliberately so you're less likely to accidently leave the indicator on. You may not notice a consistent beep, but the off beat means it catches your attention. Almost every detail is thought through to be safer.
My parents had a 2011 T6 with the twin turbo inline 6 motor that was just glorious to drive and sit in. I remember my father test driving the optional 4.4 V8 motor but after I drove it as well we both agreed the turbo motor was absolutely the way to go (a car must have a very special V8 motor for me to say no to a turbo engine) so that was that lol
The V8 was very special. Yamaha engineered and used in the Noble M600
Wasn't the T6 in 2011 single turbo but twin-scroll?
@@joachimjankowski4618 Yes, twin scroll single turbo.
Fantastic V8. Only around 300 XC90’s with that engine ever made.
@@joachimjankowski4618 yes in retrospect it was. Made nice chunky torque and power.
I've owned a 2019 xc90R excellent SUV . 1 mistake I did is get the R . The seats were meant for a race car and the 22s with low profile made a heck of 4oad noise . Truly though an amazing machine with they had the v6 or shoot a v8 option.
I have XC60 T5 ,but also i love this " big brother "❤
I drove one at the Australian launch of the Discovery in 2016. We had every competitor car there for comparison and the Volvo was an absolute standout, and even then was the cheapest of all on the drive.
My wife has a 2021 T8. Loves the way it looks and feels. Safety is top notch. Personally, I've grown to really hate the drive train for 2 reasons
1)The engine is only fast in "Power mode". All other modes feel like snail mode, and to make it worst, when the gear change finally happens you hear the 4-cylinder rev up which let's just say doesn't sound very luxurious, elegant, or exciting. The engine just sounds feeble compared to a 6 or 8 cylinder but it is peppy, in certain situations
2)The hybrid drive drain is not well done. The 19mile range is too low for American driving. You have to charge it almost twic ea day to try to stay on electric. What's worst, the default hybrid management is terribel and will jump to engine power too soon with even a slightly aggressive pedal push, and on top of that, it's stupid as hell and will try to jump to electric only even when you're going 75mph on the highway, which would end up draining the battery faster than you can say MISSISSIPPI 5 TIMES. Furthermore, as Matt pointed out, I wish there was a button on the steerring wheel to activiate/deactivate the electric drive only mode, but alas you have to go through 2-3 distracting touchscreen menu buttons to change that feature so you really can't practically, manually control the electric to ICE transition during daily driving.
Sounds like you have an old enough T8 to have the worse battery (lower range), but new enough to have no driving mode selector (and maybe dodgy Google integration UI) - bad choice.
Newest ones have dodgy ICE/UI but way more power and range, so are worth buying, but dear.
Older ones (if you get lucky with a good one) have better UI/UX and drive mode selector - but range similar to yours (sufficient for UK).
If the range isn't enough for your needs - it's a bad choice of car for you, sorry.
Have they taken away the silver roller in the centre by the gear selector that you press down and roll to select the driving mode?
Yes, they have. It’s an annoyance in an otherwise very good car.
You Missed out one interesting point on the rear power socket, it continues to have power supply even when the car is not running or when engine is off and the car is locked. unlike most cars where you have to turn the key to acc to get power. Another feature which they should have maintained and Included in their current and future production is the car Child Booster seat in the Centre of the middle roll.

I think Volvo XC90 is still a nice premium suv to travel long distances. Safe, comfortable, elegant. It aged fine. Like good wine.
My preference in this segment is :
1st place. Porsche Cayenne because i like a suv with a more sporty feeling into it.
2nd place. BMW X5
3rd place. Volvo XC90 T8 455 hp with top level equipment. more discreet and refined.
4th place. Mercedes GLE. Very good suv but it is a little bit too show off with all those lights inside... looks like a discotheque. Not my style.
5th place. Audi Q7
I think only the Q7 in that list still have 7 seats.
Wow, didn’t realize that Volvo very disingenuously removed the beautifully crafted click-roller drive select button that was near the start stop button and unsafely moved it to the touch screen. How stupid of Volvo !
timeless design, safe, practical, best braking, good high speed stability,

I'm way more excited for the EX90. That's where they have spend all their time and attention.
Yeah, the fact that it's about 8 years old, barely refreshed, it seems that they are likely going to try and make the EX90 readily available and sell quite a lot. Not just a compliance car. So hopefully that means it being well thought out
was waiting for your review last year but i just went right ahead and bought one in July. and i LOVE it! after 7000km driven average is 5.3l(44mpg) which is damn nice. and that 455 hp that takes almost 3t wheicle to 100km/h in ~5 seconds is mind blowing.
Also we got the late 2022 model so no google automotive and i have to say i prefer the old infotainment system
Out of curiosity, how much of the miles is done in EV mode?
I agree the old system is much better and how stupid is the new drive mode thing. What was wrong with the scroller in the centre console. I wish they kept the old system but just put google maps in and that was it because it to me is the only advocate for the new one
@@deansmits006 to be honest i have no idea how to check that or if i even can. but I'd say 70% is in EV mode. when i do combined trip(highway+town driving) of ~150km i average ~8l/100km on petrol only. Car had issues with hvch module(known issue with t8s) so i had to drive on petrol majority of winter. and average is still ~5.3l/100km. during the summer i was averaging 4l/100km. also we went on a road trip the other day and on EV i managed to get 89km(~55 miles) on a single charge. when you're light on the gas pedal and drive on mostly flat road it shines.
6.42l(44mpg)
Agree on the OG Volvo Sensus infotainment system. I think it was a good bit premature to run with Google. Should have waited a couple years to mature it - and then put it into their cars when it's got the full functionality and is somewhat bug-free...
Forget about Sir David! All I was able to focus on in this video I was your jacket!
This is a gigantic leap of faith. I’m pretty sure your rear end has sat in the seats of a Rolls Royce Phantom.
Although I also like the drive mode switching wheel in the previous generations, and the selection in a sub menu of a sub menu is a really bad design decision, I wonder how many people actually change the drive mode _while driving_? I've never done that once in any of my Volvos... I change before I start and that's it... 🤷♂
I change it every 5 to 10 mins around town (with T8 Polestar), it depends how nerdy you are and whether you want to constantly optimise performance and efficiency/economy, which I quite enjoy doing.
On a long trip - Individual wins.
Volvos always have great seats..
Oddly, my aunt has one, and she and her husband both find the seats uncomfortable on long trips. Weird. Can't hit 100% I guess
Especially old Volvos, they are like couches
Great review! Have you driven the diesel? What’s it like, would you recommend it?
Yes. Good powerful car. A lot of torque. If you want more power, you can install the Polestar Engineered optimisation.
But the best part of getting the Diesel is its consumption. Good values for a +2 tonne seven seat SUV.
Concert Hall Effect ❤ 👍 All cars should have this..
If the diesel has good towing capabilities, but the electric engine turns off to just use diesel power, I'd buy one, & I'm not a fan of Hyrbids. I'd use the combination to stroll or go out in city or short trips, but the diesel combustion for trips or towing sounds awesome for the luxury it has.
Also I love that diesel clacking
Supercars today wont be the same if Volvo wasnt here and invented one crucial equipment: seatbelts

I've got the V90 cross country and had the Polestar optimisation upgrade. Takes a fantastic car to the next level.

The v90 cross county sure is a very good looking car. Volvo always made great estates.
I'm here just for the brake test

Well I'm here just to watch the design cause i love this madam 😅
Great review as always but i have the same thing to report as in all of your videos matt... you do talk about infotainment systems but you mostly show the screen...you should spend a minute about sound quality - speakers etc... Especially in this car which is 10/10 for a factory system!!!!

had one for 4 years and not one issue and first 3 years Volvo took care of maintenance and one negotiated for the 4th year too. So not a penny spent driving about 45K miles.
Best looking SUV on sale. Design is 8 years old already, and it’s aged like fine wine
Outside of the Range Rover products, this is the best looking large SUV on sale. However it is really showing it’s age in other areas such as the infotainment and refinement. I drive a Q7 usually but had a 2022 XC90 for the day recently and it just felt old in comparison even though they are essentially the same age, Audi has done a better job with the refreshes than Volvo. The electric range in the hybrid is tiny in the real world and it is slow to charge. Seems that Volvo were ahead of the game with the 4 cyl engines though as others are now following suit, still prefer a 6 cyl for as long as they are available though. Shame that the price of the all electric version is going to put it completely out of reach.
I love mine. The driving mode is on a roller control just next to the gear crystal
We’ve owned 2 Range Rover Autobiography, 1 MB GL63 AMG, 1 Audi Q7, 6 BMWs, 3 XC90s (2006 V8, 2016, 2019) and now have a 2021 S90 R-Design, a 2015 911 4S and a 2021 Lexus LX570… the Volvos are great (cheaper, more reliable) alternatives to all but the Lexus, IMHO
Would probably be more efficient with a straight 6
Hard to say, but if you compare it against the BMW X5 45e, the Volvo is more efficient in general. 26 vs 20mpg in hybrid mode. Real world conditions apply, the usual caveat. However, Volvo did the 4 cylinder only option to make it cheaper to develop drivetrains. One basic powerplant, with a supercharged option, and hybrid option. No 6 or 8 cylinder to develop. Cheaper
@@deansmits006 true but I can bet you that 4 cylinder won’t last half the time ls a straight 6

How many of us will go for the GLS ??? I will...
🙋🏻♂️
Any benefit of GLS over even the GLC if you're not driving passengers?
Only a fool will because Mercs modern day cars have terrible reliability issues
Volvo for the win
XC90 is the competitor for the GLE not GLS
I love the xc 90 b6 I can’t wait to drive the wagon version. Simple and easy to drive. Great drive around city suv
Can you change drive mode with voice assistant?
