    The key is in the title, AIRCOOLED 😉😂 had a guy ask on Facebook if he needed his engine tins, and after I let him know how important they were he asked if he could keep using it without them. I wanted to facepalm so hard lol, he just wanted someone to tell him it would be fine. I didn't know what to say, "No, you don't want to keep your motor as cool as possible to avoid it blowing up." 😂

      The reason for using the thermostats is for helping (1) to warm up the engine quickly in cooler climates. and (2) forcing air into the passenger side of the vehicle.

    Hi John, I have seen people removing the heater pipe and blocking the holes left behind. Do you think this would have any negative affect to the cooling system? thank you

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  8 місяців тому +1

      Not really. The most inportant thing with cooling a air cooled VW engine is the direction of the air from the fan inside the schroud. The engine tins above the cooling fins on the head is the most inportant. The heater tubes like you mentioned where for heat in the winter time. Most people think that removing the tins is the best way to.cool them down ( like a baja) is the answer. Its actually the opposite. All the seals around the engjne bay, decklid seal. If you take the heater hoses you need to close or weld the circles on the breast plate as well. The original design was designed to push the heat out of the engine area. All these small things work in reverse. It actually traps the heat inside. Great question. Hope i answered your question so you understand the thought behind it. Feel free to ask any question about any of the videos. Take care, stay safe.

      So hot air would be pulled through the oil cooler?

      Thx

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  2 роки тому

      @@mavericmorph5358 if you remove the shroud, there is a oil cooler on the drivers side under there. When you pull the alt/ gen out there will.be a fan connected to it. The fan turns then cools the oil cooler. They do make a aftermarket fan shroud that puts the alt/ gen in the middle. Like I mentioned before you would have to.relocate the oil cooler. Hope this explains what your looking to do.

    I plan to delete the entire cab heating system. Building a rat rod! Can I cap off the ports on the engine tin that goes forward to the cab heater channels? Also, at the rear of the engine exhaust system, there’s flaps or doors that are completely rusted out. Can I remove them, and leave them off! I guess this is where the hot air escapes the cooling system. This car will never be driven in cold weather. Thanks for any info!

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  3 роки тому

      Yes you can cap off the holes on the shroud. They make smooth shrouds ( without. Holes). You van also cap off the holes in the car. The heat exchangers your talking about on the engine can also be changed. Use a set of J - TUBES. This will delete the entire system. All these parts can be found at any classic VW online parts supplier. Companies such as J- Bugs, would be a great place to start. They have a huge selection of parts. They have great customer support as well. I am not sponsored at all by them. I have ordered several times from them over the years. Hope the info helps.
