Passed A8, spring 2024. These videos were great for getting into the right mindset leading up to the test. The test is fully up to date, no questions about OBD1, distributor ignition, or carbs. Very few questions about exhaust gas, vacuum gauge reading, or AIR. LOTS of questions about P0300 diag, leakdown testing, HO2S, engine management sensors, VCT, and GDI.
I just passed my A8, and I have to say your videos played a BIG part in my passing. THANK YOU. I want to add to those studying now also using the Delmar and Motorage study guides, the test I took had no questions on it about old style distributor caps, points, ignition modules, vacuum controlled EGR valves, old school secondary air systems etc. it was modern day performance you would find on a car 2010 and newer.
just took it and failed but can confirm its more newer stuff than older, i wish Delmar and motor-age could focus more on the newer stuff, especially reading wiring diagrams and scope/graphs.
Just want to give you a big shout out and thank you. I failed a8 by one question my first go at it. I passed it today to get my first master. So thank you Sir! Your video was very helpful
Thank you Oscar. I passed my A8 engine performance test last week after several trials. You encouraged me a lot with your videos. Thanks and God bless.

Thanks man for all the info! Just took my A8 and passed and this info was 100% helpful! Would love to see you come up with a class for A2 cause that one is definitely challenging
Man I just stumbled on your channel. And I love this, I’m here to learn and study for my ASEs but too also grow as a tech. And your humility and passion for teaching the rest of us is very inspiring.
I have my test coming up in a few weeks. I'm gonna listen to this video like a podcast on my way to and from work. I'll be back in a month with the results!
Toyota tech here! Need my A6 to get certified and unlock the ability to fix recalls. Super excited about what I found here with your channel today. Love this channel already
My diag class is a detailed on each topic, as this is a review I do with my diag class students as they are required to take the ASE A8 and A6 after taking my class.
On the RC test part of the video , cylinder 1 can be triggered to determine cylinder 1 location on the waveform to show which cylinder is the one that has low compression And on the early purge flow system, o2 voltage increase can tell the pcm that purge is flowing vapor to intake
Thats correct, preferably cylinder #1 to the follow the firing order from there. If #1 isn't accessible you can use which ever coil you can access, then follow the firing order from there. Great input, yes when the system purges, the PCM will monitor the HO2 to confirm flow based on the the rich condition it detects.
Man can't even diagnose a low battery in that smoke detector. Jk man great video. I am a Nissan master tech and shop forman. Loved the video and subscribed.
I took the A8 for the first time and passed on oct 10th. I work as a line tech at a firestone so ive had a good deal of experience. There are electrical diagrams. I didn't watch the entire video before i took to the test but after passing it and coming back and vaguely remembering question, I can definitely tell yall that this video is good stuff. Under the recommendation of my coworker I mostly used the newest edition Delmar book. I can definitely say the Delmar book is about only 40% useful even though its not even a textbook but a bunch of prep tests with question explanations, because most of the questions are outdated. I think in 60 questions i had like 1 distributor question. Its not even worth a look for a recert.
All my other tests and certs have been easy scared a lil for ASE got Snap-On DMM cert, advanced NOCTI pretest, Valvoline oil cert, Ford ACE tire cert but ASE is a mix of easy and hard
I love your videos, you've help me with many reviews and refreshers, when can we expect an A1 review? Thank you taking such a passion and putting in the effort in your videos!
Thank you very much for this great video. It is very thorough and informative. 👍 I’m looking to purchase a Picoscope 2204A or 2205A, as they are affordable. Would you recommend these models or the higher, more expensive models.
Yes, also using C02 you can see it’s lowered indicating a misfire, fuel isn’t being consumed thus allows oxygen back out the tail pipe, making it look as it was lean.
Without seeing other PIDs, I would say it’s due to the added load of the AC compressor. That added load enriches the mixture, PCM sees the fuel, goes lean to compensate.
@@MasterAutomotiveTrainingit's been a year since you said this and i can't find anything other than A6 and A8. (passed A6 already from your videos, A8 in a couple weeks)
Do you have any recommendations for studying for the X1 ASE? I haven’t been able to find any good material except for motor age and Delmar and I’m still a little stuck
I’m about to take my A8. Studying with the Delmar guide. The practice tests I’d say are comprised of about 40% of outdated technology; wired ignition coils, pulse air secondary air, etc. Is this what I should expect on the test or is this just because this book was last updated in 2013? And why haven’t they updated?
The A8 is primarily drivability. I am not a big fan of the Delmar books. This is due to them having you memorize Q&A only. I recommend the Motorage books more since they teach the fundamentals, this will allow you to not only pass the exams but will also help you in the shop. Wired coils although outdated the principals are the same thus, the fundamentals come into play. Good luck my friend you got this!
im not even 10 minutes in and that smoke detector beep is so annoying. they beep for a reason, replace your batteries. Thank you for the information on the A8 though, I am much more confident going into the test tomorrow.
Auto lingo, RC Test is a relative compression using an oscilloscope connected directly to the battery or using a high amp probe to run a general test to determine if you might have a low compression cylinder, to let you know you need to run mechanical tests. Did that make sense? ua-cam.com/video/ZiLw0mg7DZQ/v-deo.html
The customer never complains, you should never tell the customer they have a complaint… You should always call it a customer concern. And put a battery in your smoke detector.
It should, as this is a review with my CA students. Not sure what your instructor covered with you, but this is a part of what you should have learned, minus the electrical portion. Here I also didn't do a full 5 gas review, like we do in class.
@@MasterAutomotiveTraining I took the state exam but failed bad, my instructor's were bad in my opinion i didnt recognize anything in the state test. you recommend your $299 test to help me pass?

Do you have any videos for A1 or suggestions on what to watch?
Clients should be notified of the extra costs to “verify” a repair and let the clients decide who verifies it.
Thank you, good information
You are welcome! Thank you for watching?
44:09 so its a false lean condition because it has the high HC?
Yes, also using C02 you can see it’s lowered indicating a misfire, fuel isn’t being consumed thus allows oxygen back out the tail pipe, making it look as it was lean.
Why would the fuel trim get more lean when a/c is kicked on? Fuel pressure is good. No leaks on intake side
Without seeing other PIDs, I would say it’s due to the added load of the AC compressor. That added load enriches the mixture, PCM sees the fuel, goes lean to compensate.
