Thank you Carl for doing this classic tune that not enough younger players have been exposed to. Rory was against doing 45 singles and the Rock star thing, so not a lot of USA airplay in 70's. Irish Tour 74, Stagestruck and Live in Europe are some of his best live performances of the 30 million albums sold. Every live performance was different and worth studying his variations in articulation and note choice. Long live Rory's music!
Well taught lesson Rory Gallagher was a guitar genius Carl is a great teacher among others and really shows how to play this song and speaks clearly and easy to follow great lesson
Oh man, I am so stoked for this lesson! I think this is the first time Carl has done Rory -- I've been hoping he'd do one, and Bad Penny is a great rock track! Thanks for this one, Carl!
Rory Gallagher was one of the all time greats. Both Slash and Brian May(Queen) state he was their favourite guitarist. No doubt everyone has heard the story of Jimmy Hendrix being asked "What's it like being the world's greatest guitarist" and he replied "Ask Rory Gallagher". This guitar story comes up a lot. I know that Hendrix said of Billy Gibbons(ZZ Top) that he was the finest guitarist of his generation. Hendrix was also a huge ran of the guitar player from Chicago. The Rolling Stones also wanted Rory to join at one stage.
I was fortunate to see him live back in ‘73! He was awesome! He broke a string in the middle of cradle rock & he put a new one on & made it sound like part of the song, he was amazing! I would like to see you do tattooed lady ( live version) so cool! Thanks!😎
How did i not hear this before? Amazing Carl. Thank you! More from this guy please.!!! Watched and learned. Then went and found more Rory songs. He was just a giant!
Wow thanks for this sensai .. rory is a legend and his tone was amazing great use of always on treble booster even Brian may liked it .. your lessons are always fire and lately super fire .. can't wait for this boot camp .. Hopefully some new people can join us ...
Carl you finally did Rory you legend. I hope you get around to some of his acoustic stuff too. Im not awake yet, out of my mind and don't know where I'm going are all great. Thanks
Thank you! I was learning this song on Fender Play but your lesson adds in the cool little runs and extras that they do not have since theirs is a more beginner focused lesson.
I noodled around and found that the best way for me to extend is finding that root and slide or move into root in 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th 1st position, depending on what I'm looking to do . End the solo , extend and improv... move back into verse, etc. It was an aha moment way back. I'm still week on feet board memorization, so I gotta figure out those roots so it's automatic. And can usually play by ear into the new position until the brain catches up. And it's getting fairly ez in blues or pentatonic riffs. I'm glad you mentioned that ... I'm heading in the correct direction really fast now..Gotta find some exercises to muscle memory those key root notes. Really helpful lesson. I'm sounding pretty good. My friends do not believe it's my playing when I record and loop rhythm in. Lol. I'm .a Sax player 40 years... transitioned to guitar also off and on 20 years. Got real serious last 5 years. Use keyboard for theory lessons. I teach Sax... I like your lesson style.. quick and to the point. Great stuff you put out for us players.
Hey Carl, great video as always but you've been looking really thin as of lately. Hope you're doing okay. Take care of yourself mate. You're one of the reasons I kept learning new songs and can now play and enjoy the art of guitar. God bless you dude.
Thank you for posting all the lessons that you do I have been watching you for many years now and your videos are extremely helpful and you are a very talented artist. Thank you for putting this song it’s one of my favorites
Cool lesson, just need a vox ac 30, strat and a treble boost pedal with a boss octave now 😂 Rory liked a tele on lead position more than his strat for leads as he mainly ised the strat middle pickup he explained in an interview. Hope that helps somone. I am Irish and never saw Rory live , my Dad did in the seventies and loved him even though he doesnt like loud music! I did see a Rory tribute with Rorys bassist Gerry and thin lizzy drum legend Brian Downey who were incredible over ten years ago playing great solos❤
Hey Carl, I Learn everything from your video’s. Your awesome! But could you please do some silverchair lessons like “tomorrow”, “pure massacar” or “fault line” their one of my favourite bands and I wold really like to learn some of their songs, Thanks.
Been learning from you for years fellow Carl! Ever thought of doing some mastodon i've been struggling figuring out i am ahab. Thanks for the work you've put in i've learned so much from you!
I can’t see any “ greater number of “how to play like … “ on UA-cam than demonstrators and reviewers of the late great Rory Gallagher And those adoring and reverentially passionate teachers invariably make a good fist of it ie fretting, bending, etc.,
Might be late on this, but what amp and settings do you use to get that crunch you have? I have a black star club 40 and still can’t get that heavy sound. Thanks for the awesome videos and classes
