I remember seeing this back in May of 1983 at the end of my 8th Grade year. Saw it with my friends and when this scene happened, my god, everyone including me and my friends were cheering so loud I thought the ceiling was going to fall! And after seeing the sequels and how much Annakin loved Padme...if I were him , right before tossing Palpatine into the core reactor of the Death Star I would have screamed out at him...This is for Padme, f*ck you and die! The best scene in all the movies IMO.
The added audio killed it the tension of the sudden turn back to Anakin. Although wasn't exactly a bad addition as if it was an original part, it would still convey, with what was already set prior, the silence was more intense and unexpected
I can't overstate how much this trilogy - this scene - affects me now, knowing how much of a huge thing it was for me as a kid. And every year since. It's only with age that you realise the emotional connections that can be formed by a genius musical score such as this trilogy showed throughout - but nowhere more so than the scenes In the throne room here. That look that guy's like me get during those scenes... That's called ALL IN. Meaning I am fully invested. Everything that's going on, every underlying moral story, every life lesson, every father/son moment, every fucking bit of it... sign me up I'm ALL IN.
Well, the emperor forgot the old saying 'blood is thicker than water'. You'd have to be some type of self absorbed narcissist with a massive sense of entitlement to think you could dispose of someone's son in such a way in front of their dad without any response from the dad, but I suppose that's what the emperor was.
Don't forget, Disney erased the significance of this, Palpy returned, and Anakin is not the only force-born jedi. Luke abandons his friends. They made it mean nothing.
Disney Star Wars does not count...the die hard fans reject all of the nonsense K. Kennedy did with the sequel movies...all pure garbage and a obvious attempt to destroy what Star Wars is about and repalce it wit woke politics. to corrupt the masses.
Tyranny has no bonds. Ruling by fear, whether by a Sith Lord or real-world examples like politicians who destroy a democracy to gain power. Julius Caesar, Napolean, Hitler, Nixon or Palpatine, they all shared the same inspiration.
Palpatine had a contingency plan at that point. 3 in fact if you count the other stuff and sequel trilogy. 1. He haunts everyone to continue his Empire (Supposedly but its based on the books). 2. He uses a droid to use his recordings of giving the Empire orders (Battlefront 2). 3. Cloned himself in advance but used what was left of himself for some reason. (Episode IX)
The Galactic Emperor was a fool believing Darth Vader can't be turned back to the good side of the Force, even after Vader didn't kill Luke during the 1st fight over the original Death Star or during their duel at Cloud City on Bespin.
Both versions of this scene are great in my opinion. OG - The silence adds to Vader pondering whether he should save his son, who by all counts should despise him but sees good in him, and true to Luke's belief, Vader chooses good Edited - The one with the two "no's" adds a small but poignant addition, **the reawakening of Anakin Skywalker.** Luke went through what he did, but never turned to the dark... and right now he was going to lose Luke just like how he lost Padme, and he didn't want to fail Luke like he failed Padme
I just want to underline that the Emperor does die here. There isn’t any sequel trilogy.
the true Emperor meets his fate knowing he failed to fully control his apprentice

1:53 for 41 years I have never heard that. Seems he shouts "Lord Vader!!!" Right?
Even Vader loved his son in the end
Vader says noooooo throwing the emperor down the where ever Vader had a change of heart to save his son classic
Well, the emperor forgot the old saying 'blood is thicker than water'. You'd have to be some type of self absorbed narcissist with a massive sense of entitlement to think you could dispose of someone's son in such a way in front of their dad without any response from the dad, but I suppose that's what the emperor was.
Emperor is like the reaper
Don't forget, Disney erased the significance of this, Palpy returned, and Anakin is not the only force-born jedi. Luke abandons his friends. They made it mean nothing.
Disney Star Wars does not count...the die hard fans reject all of the nonsense K. Kennedy did with the sequel movies...all pure garbage and a obvious attempt to destroy what Star Wars is about and repalce it wit woke politics. to corrupt the masses.
My favorite movie
"NO" vaders first and last words
The true ending/death of Emporer Palpatine.
He will never return.
Tyranny has no bonds. Ruling by fear, whether by a Sith Lord or real-world examples like politicians who destroy a democracy to gain power. Julius Caesar, Napolean, Hitler, Nixon or Palpatine, they all shared the same inspiration.
Disney really watched this and said let’s bring palpatine back 😂😂😂
I remember this part
At least he won't be coming back
So if Luke kills the emperor, he goes to the dark side. If Vader kills him, he goes to the good side. Same act, different outcomes.
If Luke did it, it would be out of hate. Vader doing it was for love.
“Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side, you have paid the price for your lack of vision.” Bars
I believe in his mind he was speaking to qui gon here and also having ptsd flashbacks to his past experiences
2:00 He just drop him to the reactor shaft 😂😂😂😂
There’s no greater bond than that of father/son
Apparently Force Lightning is genetic since Rey Palpatine can do it without training smh
Disney Star wars is not Star wars its.. pure garbage
about time vader fired his boss
I love this scene where Anakin finally has enough of that old chomo!
Don’t worry he just ends up chilling on Exegol for the next 36 years.
As a kid I always wondered how this could kill the Emperor. Then years later I found out it didn’t 😂
The Emperor was unforgiving. Vader was forgiving. Big difference between these two.
The power of the dark side takes a lot of time
The Galactic Emperor was a fool believing Darth Vader can't be turned back to the good side of the Force, even after Vader didn't kill Luke during the 1st fight over the original Death Star or during their duel at Cloud City on Bespin.
And after that "SoMEhoW PAlpAtInE ReTuRneD"
I wish they would have let the emperor destroy him with lightning.
do you think I would die this easily....
Chancellor Palpatine at an end your rule is, and not short enough it was
Chancellor Palpatine Yes definitely
@chancellorpalpatine ... ImmmPOSTAH!
Yeah yeah 😑
Yo, Lets get to the real question! Did he have, Catcher in the Rye, on him?
Vader...what a family man
Мама ты самая ,,, конкретная легенда,,, во всех вселенных,,,...,,,..... Андрей. Зеленокумск.
Vader doing what he should have done the moment Palpatine revealed himself.
Both versions of this scene are great in my opinion.
OG - The silence adds to Vader pondering whether he should save his son, who by all counts should despise him but sees good in him, and true to Luke's belief, Vader chooses good
Edited - The one with the two "no's" adds a small but poignant addition, **the reawakening of Anakin Skywalker.** Luke went through what he did, but never turned to the dark... and right now he was going to lose Luke just like how he lost Padme, and he didn't want to fail Luke like he failed Padme
Agree with this!
I always wondered how Vader got injured more than Luke when Luke got hit by way more lightning blasts……
Sidious designed Vaders suit to be especially vulnerable to force lightning. It was his way of keeping Vader from turning against him.
At 2:17 somebody get Darth Vader his inhaler, he's sounding a little wheezy there.
