@Irfan Alddin when your force potential is so catastrophically large that your opponent can casually ragdoll you, you gotta rethink if you can actually survive.
One detail at the end not many people realize is the one thing Maul says once the fight is over. "Please have Mercy." You may be thinking, well of course because he doesn’t want to die to his master, but we see throughout that Maul will stay for a battle until one opponent is killed. Whether it be him or his rival. He has shown that he is willing to take a warrior's death (just like in rebels), and even with his Dathomirian origin it makes sense. So this scene shows exactly how scary Sidious is, even to Maul. The fact that Maul, despite being willing to have a warrior's death, he asks for mercy from Sidious. When even an evil, determined and beligerent foe like Maul asks for Mercy from Sidious, that is how you know what true terror is.
Crazy to think about he genuinely fears Sidious. And yet wit all that, sidious to an extinct respected yoda’s powers (maybe even feared, but he knew yoda would never put his full power into affect cuz the jedi council’s politics and the senate) enough to tell maul one of the few people that maul would never beat, would be yoda.

@Irfan Alddin I have to disagree. Sith Lord is just a term used to refer to dark side force users, or force users who followed Sith tradition. The title of a Sith Lord is Darth, and Dooku and Vader were both crowned Darth, while General Grievous, being a non-force user, cannot be a sith lord. And Sidious knew this. Which is exactly why he didn’t kill him period. If there was any time Maul would’ve picked to die it would’ve been then. He just lost his brother, the throne and planet he just acquired, and all the fear and respect he had gained throughout the galaxy. He had nothing left, death would’ve been mercy. But as Sidious stated, “there is no mercy.”

God, that movie was so painful -_- Also, one of the best parts about Maul as a character is how we learn that the Jedi weren’t the only ones being manipulated by the Sith and the Dark Side. Maul, an ex-apprentice of Sidious, was just as much of a victim of the Sith and Dark Side as others
I think in many ways Palpatine was proud. Maul took Palpatine's teachings and adapted it to go from a cripple to the ruler of a criminal empire that given enough time could quickly rival the Republic and the Confederacy. But the Rule of Two is the Rule of Two and that criminal empire would be a problem.
@@SidiousEdits87The point here was how Palpatine respected Maul, He even used Maul for abit for complete control, While Maul build an empire slowly of thugs and warriors, Palpatine was playing both sides, Now with Maul, he can rule the underworld. Not that he needed it but now he has even more control then before.
Probably using the force in some light form to keep it over his head to ensure his identity is concealed. I couldn't see someone as smart as Sidious risking his hood falling off mid-fight.
He was laughing because of his arrogance and sadism. He believes he’s better than them. Which in this case is true because he did the hard work and mastered force and saber abilities. But a combination of hubris and sadism is why palpatine is always laughing during combat. He enjoys seeing others suffer
When I wanted to become dark lord of the Sith THIS is what I signed up for Cackling maniacally while I murder my apprentice's family to mess with him NOT sitting in an office working on trade agreements all day
@P M granted it ain't word for word but the sentiment is there. Sensing a powerful but familiar presence then the surprise/alarm of realizing whom it was.
Maul was essentially a tool, Dooku was his bridge across the Separatists and the Republic, but Anakin as the chosen one was his main strive since his initiation in the Jedi Order.
What's generally amazing about this duel is that sideous knows there's no way that Savage or Maul could even touch him, so he structures this duel purely so he can enjoy it the most 1. He starts off completely dominating the brothers with force powers to establish that no matter what they do, he can end the fight at any point just using the force. This demoralizes the both of them. 2. He goes overboard on the flourishes in his opening strikes to further strike fear into the brothers hearts, and cackles as he notes that the brothers are completely on the defensive. Both are terrified of him. 3. He spends the majority of the fight not really trying hard, as to give the brothers the impression that they might win, even allowing Savage to ram him. He's caught off guard as Maul almost lands a hit, and then snarls that he might have been going too easy on them. At that point, he just uses the force to knock maul out. 4. At that point Sidious has just got savage dueling him, so he's back to having fun, literally dancing around Savage as he is multiple leagues above him in skill and speed. He delays killing Savage until Maul wakes backs up. He makes a point to kill Savage in front of Maul with a trick move and another over the top flourish. Sideous gets the most glee from taking Mauls only family away from him, and even lets maul be with his brother in the final moments just to let the pain hit home. 5. He lets Mauls rage boil over, and engages with him in a prolonged lightsaber duel, only to show maul that even with all his rage, he can't possibly match him, not in lightsaber combat, and certainly not in force powers. 6. It concludes with maul begging Sideous for mercy, and Sideous merely reminds maul that he doesn't believe in mercy even as a concept. It goes beyond him denying his former apprentice mercy, he would never show anyone mercy for any reason. Maul may be evil, but the story shows that it's a product of his broken past. Sideous is the complete embodiment of pure evil, as he does this just because he wants to.
So true. Sidious didn't even need his lightsabers to dodge Savage's attack, and despite the flips and agility, Sidious doesn't seem to even try to attack. He knows he can kill him whenever and however he wants in a flash. He even let Maul spend his last moments with Savage to mess him even more
I’m guessing Mas Ammeda (the blue guy with horns we see occasionally) did have to make up some excuses along those lines while Palpatine/Sidious was out 😂
Now THIS is what the people who refuse to watch this show because it’s animated are missing out on. Clone Wars has some of the greatest peaks in the franchise, without a doubt
This is exactly why people don't watch this show. Palpatine dual weidling lightsabers and doing corny stuff like moonwalk-stabbing Savage is almost as dumb as Yoda's gymnastics against Dooku.
@@mlee7290 Sidious is way above a "sociopath." He's a maniacal, power hungry, sadist who has no sense of empathy. "Sociopaths" feel empathy. Sidious does not.

@@LITTLE1994What I also like is that Palpatine hates lightsabers. He sees them as beneath a Sith Lord, yet we see him fight Jedi Grand Masters and Sith Lords like it’s nothing. Just goes to show how really raw and powerful Palpatine is that the only way he can be defeated is by way of the force not sword fighting.
@@El_Doño_Da_Word Well he has been defeated by sword fighting before. But that was specifically by Windu, a guy who's lightsaber style, Vaapad, literally channels the Dark side.
Through the show we see Jedi try to kick Savage’s leg and he isn’t fazed. But at 2:42 we see Sidious kick Savage so hard with ONE leg that Savage’s entire body goes flying. Really great way to show just how powerful Palpatine is.
"stand up to" is a gross overstatement considering how easy it was for Sidious to ragdoll him not once, not twice, but three times in the same fight. Sidious was clearly playing the entire fight as he was rarely on the offensive and mostly playing defense and dancing around his opponents clearly showing how easy the battle is for him. He doesn't go for the kill until that little bout with Savage, and you can bet the only reason he did that was so he could watch Maul suffer. If he wanted it to be quick he would have beaten Maul into the dust while Maul was watching over his dying brother, instead he wanted to savor every moment of Maul's suffering as true punishment for him trying to become a rival.
The Sun yes you are right. But when I say that I mean he actually dueled sideous. The most powerful sith at the time ( of all time probably) and came out alive. That is an achievement. Sideous’ duels are complicated. Because as an example in the windu fight no one really knows if he was trying to lose to get anakin it was actually trying and just lost. It is just tricky. I’m not saying maul could beat sideous. He couldn’t, maul may be powerful and a great dueler he is not even close to sideous or Vader. I’m just saying that he actually lived is incredible

I dont think people actually realise that maul could have ruled the galaxy if it weren't for this fight, not only was he a tremendous fighter, he was a brilliant strategist and politician which often gets forgotten. I think he learnt all this from his master, but ultimately he could have taken a lot more but, I don't even think we saw maul at his full power.
The whole story of Maul is about failure and wasted potential. He would have ruled the Galaxy and reformed the Shadow Collective in George Lucas Episodes: VII-VIII-IX. But as we see in Rebels and Clone Wars, Maul always got close to complete his goals, until he was defeated in the last minute. That is one of the reasons why his death in Rebels is so well made and tragic.
Well think of it this way. Darth Sidious wears the mask of Chancellor Patpatine nearly all day every day. The Sith are in love with power. They are intoxicated by it, and revel in their use of it. This was a rare time Sidious got to take off his mask, and unleash all at his disposal. Of course he’s gonna be giddy about doing the thing that brings him the most joy.
It's probably the first time in DECADES that he's gotten to just beat the shit out of two upstarts and have some real fun. No politics, no backroom deals. Just a good ole fashioned duel.
I love how the one spin that SIdious did in Revenge of the Sith has now helped define his style as being disturbingly acrobatic, an old man spinning around like some kind of possessed lunatic.
Same with Yoda. Pulls out his saber and proceeds to twirling, jumping, and spinning like a mad man. And when it was over, he picked up his cane and went back to hobbling around 😆

It’s always so funny to me that Palpatine CHOSE to have this lightsaber fight. He could’ve just ended it in seconds with his sheer strength in the force as soon as he walked into that throne room. The fact that he even chose to learn to use a lightsaber as a pure mockery of the Jedi and not only learn the basics but learn how to use it BETTER than a majority of the Jedi is even funnier.
He also could have killed Savage and Maul something like 8 times without even using the force during the duel. He was just holding back so he got more fun out of them.
You notice Sidious' sabers' activation sounds at the start of the fight? The one in his right hand uses the same sound it did in ROTS when he fought Windu, and the one in his left hand used the one when he activated it against Yoda. It's implied he was using his spare against Yoda since his primary saber fell out the window during his fight with Windu. I love little details like this.

and interesting detail during the fight is that sidious was having a blast, laughing, and toying around with them when Savage was still fighting. As soon as Savage died, and it was Maul versus Sidious, he didn't laugh a single time, and locked in as if he respects Maul as a fighter significantly more than Savage

The fact that Palpatine openly admits that Darth Maul has become a “rival” to him says a lot about Darth Maul.
I think he became a rival because he got an apprentice. Dooku did too, and Sidious killed him eventually.
It doesn't say anything about Maul. Palps was just toying with him

Yeah, he's talking about Anakin. Sidious viewed Dooku as more expendable than Maul.

Maul was essentially a tool, Dooku was his bridge across the Separatists and the Republic, but Anakin as the chosen one was his main strive since his initiation in the Jedi Order.
Anakin forsure
What's generally amazing about this duel is that sideous knows there's no way that Savage or Maul could even touch him, so he structures this duel purely so he can enjoy it the most
Great analysis. Sidious retains total control of the fight. Just playing with his food
@@darthTwin6A trait that bites him in the ass in ROTJ.
So true. Sidious didn't even need his lightsabers to dodge Savage's attack, and despite the flips and agility, Sidious doesn't seem to even try to attack. He knows he can kill him whenever and however he wants in a flash. He even let Maul spend his last moments with Savage to mess him even more
Maul had sociopathic tendencies meanwhile Sidious was a complete and pure pshycopath.

The fact that maul even stood up to sideous is an achievement. Not many people can do that.
I’m just saying that he actually lived is incredible

exactly why sidious went to mandalore personally to stop him from becoming a threat
The whole story of Maul is about failure and wasted potential. He would have ruled the Galaxy and reformed the Shadow Collective in George Lucas Episodes: VII-VIII-IX. That is one of the reasons why his death in Rebels is so well made and tragic.
