The reason Piett survived after the Falcon jumped at the end of ESB is because Vader respected Piett, unlike his dipshit predecessor Ozzel. Vader killed Ozzel because of an overall insignificant command decision. Piett let Vader's son slip through his fingers and Vader just walked passed him. It was because Piett was a loyalist to the Empire and wasn't motivated by ego or political power. Hell, Piett didn't even want to be promoted to command Death Squadron. Which is exactly why he was promoted.
Yeah krennic is one of the few imperials that actually worked hard to get where he was today, and didn't get his rank because he knew some friends. So of course it would piss him off that after all that hard work building it, then dealing with thrawns tie defender thing, tarkin tries to take credit.
And that's why some Stormtroopers & Imperial officers hated the greedy & power-hungry bureaucrats like Krennic & Tarkin but they respected Vader because despite he was Sith Lord, he was Anakin Skywalker under the suit as he respected the Stormtroopers like he did to the Captain Rex & 501st Clone Legion before.

Even without Vader, the movie is still amazing and epic! It was one hell of a way to begin one trilogy while ending another! As much as I love Revenge of the Sith, the ending felt kind of rushed. Here, it blends everything together seamlessly.

Really underrated line - quite beautifully flows into Vader's visible contempt for the Death Star as soon as he arrives on it in A New Hope. I always liked to interpret his disdain for the whole Death Star concept as an indication of his disagreement with Palpatine ruling as emperor and the methods Palpatine had come to rely on. Seeding Vader taking a chance with Luke - which if you think about it, was a really big risk for him! - and offering to go in with Luke on overthrowing the emperor. Vader, in his own way, still craved justice. Not revenge and power for the sake of power, like Palpatine did. We all joke about how Vader keeps murdering underlings and giving the job to the next person in line, but in a weird way it was another reflection of his twisted desire for truth and justice. He was probably oddly sincere in hoping the new person promoted to a position would prove competent and succeed where others had justly failed. Probably would have respected them and happily rewarded them, if they had. One can believe that Vader was totally honest in wishing to end wanton destruction and bring order to the galaxy. The Death Star, while a tool he would ruthlessly use, probably did actually disgust him in its flagrantly heavy handed strategy.
Good point and a big reason why he employed Bounty Hunters like Boba Fett while the Empire looked down on them. It's because Vader respected people who could get the job done. He hated his incompetent Imperial colleagues with a deep passion.
I agree; but Vader HATED the Death Star and everything it represented: technology eclipsing the Dark Side of the Force and laziness/weakness. I'm not sure he would have even finished the 2nd Death Star after the death of Sidious; Vader preferred an honest, old-fashioned military assault of troopers + a Force user in command, everyone getting stronger/sharper in the process.
Vader had no say over the Death Star, its construction was started when he was just a Padawan in Episode II, we see Dooku with the hologram of it. So it was always a goal of the Emperor.
If Vader had ever decided to design weapon systems, they would be frighteningly efficient, perfectly precise, masterfully elegant, and beyond overwhelming in power. They would be nimble, agile and not some overblown mega-weapon, but a precision instrument of war. It would have reflected that dark being he had become while also showing you could be effective without going overboard.
I like how ILM and Disney, Lucas clearly established how DS1 was created with flaws, ways to bring it down rather than 2 proton bombs from a single X wing fighter. Galen set up a series of ports, ways to destroy the entire infrastructure.

As long as I get to see at least 1 or 2 decent lightsaber fights in a movie I'm usually alright. I used to get really into legends content but as you can imagine the new stuff is just very different. I try to just see it for what it is and try to enjoy it but at the end of the day I like my legends lore more. That doesn't mean I dont like to go see a star wars movie in theaters even if its gonna suck though haha. Good stuff

One of the coolest things about vaders castle is the look of the lack of security there’s no star destroyers or tie fighter patrols it’s just a lone building because 1. Vader is the security he doesn’t need anything else and 2. No one in the galaxy wants to attack him because of how terrifying he is
I doubt most galactic citizens or even Imperial military staff are even aware of the castle to begin with. Vader at this point in his life does have a quasi-death wish too, so I’d imagine the lack of security doubles as an open challenge to any Jedi remnants or Rebel forces brave enough to try and kill him.
Perhaps this is his way of dealing with the immense guilt of having murdered the younglings as a form of catharsis as he pictures them laughing along with his poor dad jokes.
Don't be too hard on JJ, he had to clean up the raw sewage that Rian Johnson put out while coming on set for a film that was already in production. Blame Disney mostly. I believe the movies would've been better if Abrams was allowed to do all three of the trilogy.

I love this Vader. Yeah he's a Sith Lord now, Dark Side and all, but you can still see Anakin's snarkiness and humor here, albiet in a twisted form. He was sarcastic to the director, straightforward and brash, and pulled off a warning dressed in a cruel witty joke. After all this, he's still Anakin.

Man Ben killed his role as Krennic. I loved his acting so much. So much passion. Makes me feel so much different and happy when people take pride in their roles in Star Wars.
His character is a complete scumbag but the passion of the performance and the good script makes you appreciate him as someone who TRULY worked hard for the Empire and believed in it.

And do you know why that is? My former master maimed me and left me to burn along a riverbed right outside. This suit I wear isn’t for dramatic effect, it’s literally the only thing keeping me alive. It is heavy, the material is itchy, the gloves bunch at the wrists and my helmet puts needles into my head. So, any chance I have to take it off is one I do not wish to squander. Yet, here I am, talking to you because you have an inferiority complex. I would rather be talking to my wife or child, but they are dead. Or my old apprentice, but she’s dead for all I know. I would even welcome the company of my latest apprentice, and he destroyed my last suit and started this blasted rebellion. Their conversation would be, at the least, more interesting than you fretting over Governor Tarkin making you feel small. Decades of Darth Vader’s voice now eternalized by the many pieces of media that use his voice. We will never forget this legend of a voice, we will never forget the talent of James Earl Jones. May God bless his soul and grant him a rightful spot in heaven.
I love Krennic’s reaction to Vader when just starts walking towards him at 2:17. It’s like he suddenly realized how easy it would be for Vader to kill him at any moment.
Vader being able to kill him isn't what scares him, any Stormtrooper with a gun can do that anytime. What scares people is that this weirdo with his space magic can kill anyone without any fear of punishment, because for some reason nobody in the empire fully understands why the Emperor puts this guy above most of his military leaders and basically gave him free reign within the forces. They don't understand the why and wherefroms of Vader. That is what scares them. They understand the concept of climbing the ranks for power, but nobody ever saw Vader do that. One day there was this giant armored warlock who seemingly could order entire armies on a whim and with the full trust of the Emperor. And that's just fuckng weird from an outside perspective.

There is no villain like Vader. No competition. Such a dominanting presence. Easy to see why they used him sparsely in Rogue One because he takes over the show so quickly, all of a sudden the plot fades into the background and he's all you want to see.

I love when director Krenic starts getting uppity about delivering the Emperor's weapon and all Vader has to do is take couple of steps forward to make him lose his composure. Small things like that have a huge impact. Vader's physical presence alone has always been terrifying to anyone around him, even his allies.

Vader actually thought the death star was a waste of recources and time that could be used to develope and improve star destroyers and Equip troopers with better gear! He also thought the deathstar to be a very flawed concept that was more vulnérable to attack and thus leave the Emperor in danger something admiral thrawn actually agreed with him on but the Emperor didnt listen to them.
In the ORIGINAL canon, the Death Star(s), and other Imperial SuperWeapons were built to combat the impending extragalactic invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong, not to combat a spread out rebellion. Vader didn’t know this, so all he saw were massive wastes of resources and labor

Jacob Kelly, it is canonically the most relaxed Vader can be. It’s the only environment that is peaceful and soothes his burns, as opposed to his suit, which is designed to bring him pain and anger that fuels his power. Vader has every opportunity to have a more advanced suit that doesn’t feel like he’s walking in a sealed suit of Hell. But he uses all that pain and hatred of what he’s become to become more powerful. But ghat doesn’t mean he won’t take some time to not be in agonizing pain every now and then. As long as there are special guards dedicated to protecting him in that state without speaking a word of it to anyone (to not make Vader become viewed as weak)

What many overlook about this scene is that Vader absolutely HATES the Death Star. Just talking about the thing is aggravating for the Sith Lord, and would much rather see it destroyed. But, he has to pretend to care about it to please Emperor Sidious.
I don't think he cares about Sidious's feelings. He just protect it because risk of punishment, which DID happen after the destruction of the Death Star.

It seems obvious that inner politics of the empire and power-hungry bureaucrats like Krennic especially disgusts Vader. Since he is the one who built the empire with his bare hands, did all the dirtiest (and hardest) work and lost literally everything he had in this endeavor.

The reason Piett survived after the Falcon jumped at the end of ESB is because Vader respected Piett, unlike his dipshit predecessor Ozzel. Vader killed Ozzel because of an overall insignificant command decision. Piett let Vader's son slip through his fingers and Vader just walked passed him. It was because Piett was a loyalist to the Empire and wasn't motivated by ego or political power. Hell, Piett didn't even want to be promoted to command Death Squadron. Which is exactly why he was promoted.
Yeah krennic is one of the few imperials that actually worked hard to get where he was today, and didn't get his rank because he knew some friends. So of course it would piss him off that after all that hard work building it, then dealing with thrawns tie defender thing, tarkin tries to take credit.
And that's why some Stormtroopers & Imperial officers hated the greedy & power-hungry bureaucrats like Krennic & Tarkin but they respected Vader because despite he was Sith Lord, he was Anakin Skywalker under the suit as he respected the Stormtroopers like he did to the Captain Rex & 501st Clone Legion before.

Even without Vader, the movie is still amazing and epic! It was one hell of a way to begin one trilogy while ending another! As much as I love Revenge of the Sith, the ending felt kind of rushed. Here, it blends everything together seamlessly.

"Its ability to create problems has certainly been confirmed." Really underrated line - quite beautifully flows into Vader's visible contempt for the Death Star as soon as he arrives on it in A New Hope. I always liked to interpret his disdain for the whole Death Star concept as an indication of his disagreement with Palpatine ruling as emperor and the methods Palpatine had come to rely on. Seeding Vader taking a chance with Luke - which if you think about it, was a really big risk for him! - and offering to go in with Luke on overthrowing the emperor.
Vader, in his own way, still craved justice. Not revenge and power for the sake of power, like Palpatine did. We all joke about how Vader keeps murdering underlings and giving the job to the next person in line, but in a weird way it was another reflection of his twisted desire for truth and justice. He was probably oddly sincere in hoping the new person promoted to a position would prove competent and succeed where others had justly failed. Probably would have respected them and happily rewarded them, if they had.
One can believe that Vader was totally honest in wishing to end wanton destruction and bring order to the galaxy. The Death Star, while a tool he would ruthlessly use, probably did actually disgust him in its flagrantly heavy handed strategy.
Good point and a big reason why he employed Bounty Hunters like Boba Fett while the Empire looked down on them. It's because Vader respected people who could get the job done. He hated his incompetent Imperial colleagues with a deep passion.
I agree; but Vader HATED the Death Star and everything it represented: technology eclipsing the Dark Side of the Force and laziness/weakness. I'm not sure he would have even finished the 2nd Death Star after the death of Sidious; Vader preferred an honest, old-fashioned military assault of troopers + a Force user in command, everyone getting stronger/sharper in the process.
Vader had no say over the Death Star, its construction was started when he was just a Padawan in Episode II, we see Dooku with the hologram of it. So it was always a goal of the Emperor.

If Vader had ever decided to design weapon systems, they would be frighteningly efficient, perfectly precise, masterfully elegant, and beyond overwhelming in power. They would be nimble, agile and not some overblown mega-weapon, but a precision instrument of war. It would have reflected that dark being he had become while also showing you could be effective without going overboard.
I like how Rogue One made it clear that Vader wasn't too fond of the Death Star. Nice character consistency.
I like how ILM and Disney, Lucas clearly established how DS1 was created with flaws, ways to bring it down rather than 2 proton bombs from a single X wing fighter. Galen set up a series of ports, ways to destroy the entire infrastructure.

As long as I get to see at least 1 or 2 decent lightsaber fights in a movie I'm usually alright. I used to get really into legends content but as you can imagine the new stuff is just very different. I try to just see it for what it is and try to enjoy it but at the end of the day I like my legends lore more. That doesn't mean I dont like to go see a star wars movie in theaters even if its gonna suck though haha. Good stuff

James Earl Jones will ALWAYS be remembered as the voice of Lord Vader, even when he passes.

One of the coolest things about vaders castle is the look of the lack of security there’s no star destroyers or tie fighter patrols it’s just a lone building because 1. Vader is the security he doesn’t need anything else and 2. No one in the galaxy wants to attack him because of how terrifying he is

I doubt most galactic citizens or even Imperial military staff are even aware of the castle to begin with. Vader at this point in his life does have a quasi-death wish too, so I’d imagine the lack of security doubles as an open challenge to any Jedi remnants or Rebel forces brave enough to try and kill him.

Building a palace for himself near the site of his greatest defeat and where he lost the love of his life and child (unbeknownst to him) makes me respect Vader’s fall to the dark side even more. That’s dedication to pain and anger.

Man Ben killed his role as Krennic. I loved his acting so much. So much passion. Makes me feel so much different and happy when people take pride in their roles in Star Wars.

What scares people is that this weirdo with his space magic can kill anyone without any fear of punishment, because for some reason nobody in the empire fully understands why the Emperor puts this guy above most of his military leaders and basically gave him free reign within the forces.
They don't understand the why and wherefroms of Vader. That is what scares them. They understand the concept of climbing the ranks for power, but nobody ever saw Vader do that. One day there was this giant armored warlock who seemingly could order entire armies on a whim and with the full trust of the Emperor. And that's just fuckng weird from an outside perspective.

Many great villains insult in condescending tones the titles of others. As another example, many make fun of Batman’s title as “detective” and Link as “hero”.

It didn't feel like disdain so much as he was confirming to him that he WAS still the director....he just left the "for now" part unsaid, confident that that threat was understood..

The jedi failed him, obi failed him, anakin did his part too but the council treated him differently, they feared anakin and they insulted him by refusing to make him a master. If they had, he'd probably not turned. The jedi were weak fools. They paid the price for it, and so did anakin.

There is no villain like Vader. No competition. Such a dominanting presence. Easy to see why they used him sparsely in Rogue One because he takes over the show so quickly, all of a sudden the plot fades into the background and he's all you want to see.

Orson Krenic has to be one of my favourite imperials just purely from this scene and the absolute balls he has to talk to Vader the way he does. He’s not there to be praised he’s being warned by management and while there he lightly complains about senior management and then talks back to management and he survives. Fair play Director

I love when director Krenic starts getting uppity about delivering the Emperor's weapon and all Vader has to do is take couple of steps forward to make him lose his composure. Small things like that have a huge impact. Vader's physical presence alone has always been terrifying to anyone around him, even his allies.
Even the Director said he gave him goosebumps. The actual movie director, not Director Krennic of course.

Vader actually thought the death star was a waste of recources and time that could be used to develope and improve star destroyers and Equip troopers with better gear! He also thought the deathstar to be a very flawed concept that was more vulnérable to attack and thus leave the Emperor in danger something admiral thrawn actually agreed with him on but the Emperor didnt listen to them.

In the ORIGINAL canon, the Death Star(s), and other Imperial SuperWeapons were built to combat the impending extragalactic invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong, not to combat a spread out rebellion. Vader didn’t know this, so all he saw were massive wastes of resources and labor

This scene will always leave me in chills, especially as Vader’s theme plays while he descends down to Krennic. He is the ultimate villain. Not flamboyant, not too cocky. Just cold, calculating, and callus with the perfect amount of snark when correctly placed.

Jacob Kelly, it is canonically the most relaxed Vader can be. It’s the only environment that is peaceful and soothes his burns, as opposed to his suit, which is designed to bring him pain and anger that fuels his power. Vader has every opportunity to have a more advanced suit that doesn’t feel like he’s walking in a sealed suit of Hell. But he uses all that pain and hatred of what he’s become to become more powerful. But ghat doesn’t mean he won’t take some time to not be in agonizing pain every now and then. As long as there are special guards dedicated to protecting him in that state without speaking a word of it to anyone (to not make Vader become viewed as weak)

What many overlook about this scene is that Vader absolutely HATES the Death Star.

James Earl Jones to me will always be the voice of Palpatine's enforcer himself Darth Vader that is why Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is my all time favorite of the six episodes of Star Wars when he jolted Luke the terrible truth about his family's legacy that he is his father on the bowels of Cloud City
