    You are the carburetor professor! I am getting ready to bolt a Weber 32/36 progressive carb onto my fairly stock 1974 VW super beetle. I realize that isn't the carb you are looking at here, but I still found this a very useful video for illustrating the functions of a carburetor. This was a fine change from watching fairly average mechanics not really explain what was going on, etc.

      @TheEZGZ  10 років тому

      You are to kind. Thanks for the support. I don't have anything to pass on about the 32/36 at this time. May you have a prosperous 2014 and your VW always run well. Some folks are real happy with that carb. All the same principals. You just have to take the time to understand it. PEACE

      32/36 DGAV was my first big carb stupid horse power but like the mileage when off the throttle good luck , runs great and was on my 1850CC

    Great, informative videos, thanks! I just bought a pair of used 45mm DCOEs, and I'm in the middle of rebuilding them. They are a bit beat up, and I have to replace a bunch of mangled parts on them. Luckily, the parts availability for these things is pretty good even today. There's something theraupeutic in tinkering with these old carbs, and it's nice to hear you talking about them. Even though your application and carb model differs from mine, the basics are still the same.

    Hi ZEGZ!
    Great channel and videos, I'm relay glad I found your Utube channel.
    Would you kindly help me with a carburetor decision: I have a 75 bug Type 1 1300cc Dual Port(31pict -4) And I would like to install a single Dellorto carburetor on a center mount MANIFOLD LINKAGE adapter.
    I intend to upgrade my engine to 1600 somtime in the future, but for now i will leave it as is.
    can you tell me what would be the best choice of a Dellorto and the best venturi and jet sizes to make this work, Now in the 1300 set up and in the 1600 future set up?
    In addition what else would i need to add to my stock setup to run this.
    thanks!

    I have a 2180 with a 009 distributor mechanical advance and center mount solex 34 pict 3. It drives ok, but I feel I could get better performance. I don't want dual carbs, it's my daily driver. I drive it 400 miles a week for work alone. I am thinking about putting either a center mount 44 Webber or 44 empi. What is your opinion? Thanks in advance.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  5 років тому

      40 IDF with 28 venturi's. but it will need vacum dizzy and be a nightmare if you don't heat the manifold. Just get dual carbs and be done with the it.

  • @georgen9383
    @georgen9383 11 років тому +1

    Hi EZGZ,
    A quick correction if I may. Early in the video you mentioned the two small block-off screws inboard of the mixture screws. Those are actually a diagnostic feature, which allows one to attach a vacuum gauge to an individual throttle body to measure manifold vacuum. However, the outboard (outermost) screws in each 3-screw set are air bypass screws. Those allow for the balancing of air between individual throttle bodies, but are only effective at idle.

    • @dwalker399
      @dwalker399 3 роки тому

      Correct. That's what you adjust using a length of hose placed in the bore of the carb. And the other end in your ear and listen to the hissing sound to balance the sound between of each of the bores. And as you said. Only at idle.

    Hey sorry to bother you but I got to ask you a question what's the difference between a F7 emulsion tube and a f 11 emulsion tube when I compare them they do look a little bit different on the locations of where the holes are at does this affect the way the carburetors will perform

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  7 років тому +1

      It's also the diameter of the brass where the holes are. Those things make a big difference. You just have to find the one that works for your application

    Intake manifold? is that for a VW? I have 2 Dellorto and a VW 2 liter, It is impossible to tune while in car. Can I use the Intake manifold you show on this video and use just one of the Dellorto?

      Probably not. It explains all that in the Dellorto book that is still available from CB performance. You probably new it wouldn't be that easy. For both our sakes I wish it was that simple.

    I saw one of your videos that you showed gas that was left or sitting in the top of the head, that is caused by a delorto that dosent hold its gas in the float bowl the gas just runs out did you ever find out why that is and what did you do to fix it i have the exact same problem with one of my 36 delorto carbs and i cant figure it out i bought rebuild kits and cleaned them from top to bottom blew it out and it still leaks gas into the cylinder when the motor is off and not running and then it sounds like it takes a big deep breathe anyway you had same problem just wanted to know your solution , oh and i replaced the little brass fitting with the lil ballbearing in the bottom of the bowl (Check valve) and it had no effect still leaks thanks for any info tyo cure my problem kevin

      TheEZGZ Could it be a Float valve not closing off the gas when full? As a young man in a motor cycle repair shop this was a common problem. Before the start of vacuum actuated fuel cocks, the gas would run right thru the carburetor and thin out the oil in the crank case. Just a thought of where to look I hope it helps. Your videos are a wealth of knowledge thank you for sharing your experience and your expertise in providing such a straight forward and helpful series of instruction. Common sense goes a long way. My mentors were always older than I and if I kept my mouth shut and listened they would teach you anything they had to share. Sincerely John

    Single Dellorto/webber set up sucks. I had a single 44mm dellorto on my 1835 with a 120 cam. Switched to 40/44 Kadrons and man....more power, smooth idle, better gas mileage. Unless you are racing in a class that requires a single carb. Run both carbs.

      @@TheEZGZ yeah maybe with a 100 or 110 cam. Maybe I shouldn't have said sucked. I have just had way better results with the Kadrons. I even had the dellorto throated and the idle circuit set up for running a single.

    I'm sorry. I don't understand the question. I'm better versed on air cooled Volkswagen engines with weber or dellorto carbs. If you have a lean condition you would likely have to richen things up with larger jets. Thank you for your comments and interest.

  • @TheEZGZ
    @TheEZGZ  11 років тому

    Thanks for your interest in my video. I hate to sidestep your question but I'm not familiar with your specific application. I'm guessing that there are a lot of folks that have been down that 22r road and could give better advice. The more performance parts you throw in the mix the harder it is to tune and you sacrifice some things along the way. I came full circle and want simple and reliable more than top end performance for my offroad dunebuggies. Good luck with your Celica project

    Study page 53 of your dellorto tech bood and you will see that fuel level in the float bowl place a critticle part of the accelerator pump circuit as well. Check your seals and O rings. Double check your float level as well as you float chamber inlet valve.
    It screws out like the idle jets but there is a flat side to make sure that the squirt hole is facing down. That long spring acts like a filter to keep the tiny hole from clogging.

  • @TheEZGZ
    @TheEZGZ  11 років тому

    I feel your pain but it was very long ago since I messed with one of those. It had a terrible stumble as you take off. I gave up on it since it had a engle 110 camshaft which needed dual carbs.
    Raise your idle, play with your spark timing, Make sure your carb is clean and accelerator pump is working. No more than 3 psi fuel pressure going to the carb. Light a candle and say 3 hail mary's might help to. can you give me more info so I can help you.

    I have a carburated Toyota Celica (22R) engine. I have headers connected to 2 and 1/4 piping all the way back. I'm planning to put a 280 to 290 camshaft and port/polish the intake and exhaust. Since you're very versed and wise about carbs, I was wondering if you'll help. What Weber carburetor would be ideal for this set up? I was thinking of a 32/36 progressive or a 38 DEGV. What's your opinion sir? By the way, great instructional video man! God bless!

    OK I have a 40 DRLA Dellorto ,tearing down the carb I found that the mixture screws don't have a o-ring or spring ,would that make it hiss and pop somr of the time? Thanks for any info and help

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  9 років тому

      Herlin Woolery yes most definitely. There is a also a tiny washer that goes between the spring and the o ring so it doesent tear it up. The spring would be grinding the o ring into the body. ACE hardware has some good o ring assortments as well as springs. you will probably have to cut the sprng to length. CB performance still sell the carb rebuild kits.

    Hi Laura. I'm pretty familiar with the 32/36 setup, but most on aircooled engines. The biggest problem people have with that setup is the secondary main jet is far too small. When the secondary opens up, you are introducing a ton of additional air to the carburetor and engine, and an adequate amount of fuel should accompany it. Additionally, the accelerator pump jet is often too small from the factory to satisfy the transition to the secondary circuit opening. Try a larger size of both.

    You haven't adjusted that on your vids, does it just screw in and out like the idle jets?
    I just change the seals and grommets and screw it back in and tighten it up?
    Thought I'd check with and expert first.

    • @TheEZGZ

      Yes they will but not this style. DRLA are upright. You need a horizontal and it sticks out way far and unless you have a softail or forward mount pegs you will soon hate it. Drag racer's have used them with success. You might get a custom intake and mount one of these upright models, That's all I know friend.

      The only Turn adjustment are the idle air screws at the bottom on each side. I can't tell you any more based on what you have told me. It is a painful learning curve I know. Everything else on your engine needs to be in good condition and working properly, No it has to be working perfectly. A single IDF weber is finiky at best. I think it's time for a video update. Post a video with as much as you can show me and send be the link. Good Luck and thank you for watching and commenting.

      Just thought of something else. if your loosening the idle jet holder and it runs better with air leaking by it may be to rich. Make sure your running the stock 50 or 55 idle jet and nobody has drilled them out. You can't always go by the number if it is a used carb.

    • @michaelbartlett1589
      @michaelbartlett1589 9 років тому

      TheEZGZ ya thats what i was thinking today as well. I ordered a rebuild kit and it should have new jets in it. I am hoping that fixes the problem. I have adjusted the valves as well as the timing although i do need to fine tune the timing with a light... I replaced the belt and the spark plugs as well as the spark plug wires. I have cleaned out this carb multiple times and it runs the same no matter what I do... Heres to hoping its the jet. Also I put a Solex pict 34 on it and it ran even worse. Start up and idle were better but speed and take off were worse so i went back to the Weber 44.
