Bro daylight savings pushed us an hour ahead not a year.
Shawn, technically it’s 11 AM what are you doing awake?!?!?
I came to this video for this comment 😝
😭
Abolish daylight savings altogether i say
Ps4 a good dvd player ? (Yes dvd)
So glad I purchased one in 2024. Much better deal than Spawnwave could've imagined when he made this, back in 2023.
I bought mine in 2026 i wish i did sooner
Just be sure you pick one up before 2032, the “Developer Rebellion” claimed many systems. Long story short, Exploding-Disc-DLC are three words that now live in infamy.
@@SlapNuts4Life thanks for the info 👍
Saving up for one rn so I can play GTA 6
Lol everyone is messing up the year wtf
This years gone fast
Exactly what I was thinking too!
Yeah it's almost 2021!
@@mat7540 can't wait for 2020 to ve over.
Yesh we're already in the third month & i still can't get used that we are in 2022
@@KhalilSonic I meant that 2022 went fast not 2021
Ok so I'm thinking the real reason Spawnwave was gone for a while was not for the Birth of his child instead he was building a time machine.
😂
Damn. We're all here still in 2022 but Spawn Wave is in the future in 2023.
My uncle Eric passed away, his son gave my brother & I Eric’s PS4. Meant a lot to us, soon after it started making loud disc eject noises while playing it so we decided to keep it as a display piece. We were hooked with PS4 experience over our PS3 & the PS4 Pro came out the month before Eric’s console started acting up so we decided to upgrade to the Pro. Eric also gave us our first console ever with Turtles in Time & Battletoads Double Dragon along with a SNES. Even later got us Soul Reaver for our PS1 all of these have become must own games to us. R.I.P. Eric thanks for blessing us with such great memories!
Your uncle had excellent taste in games. I’m glad he was able to share those experiences with you.
Legacy of Kain is amazing. Rip Eric.
@@Sarafan92
And yet no new Legacy of Kain games for like 15 or so years :(
Rip🙏🏿
Lol
I love how long the PS4 is sticking around, I only got one a year ago. People are offloading games for cheap and a bunch of free or inexpensive PS5 upgrades when I do get one of those. Patience pays off!
agreed i love how many games are dirt cheap now i want to play them all xD
Graphical Upgrades are nothing people should be paying for, people on PC can do that for free just by opening their settings. And guys on xbox don't get charged that for any first-parties and the majority of third party games on it.
@The tricky tick Yeah but it’ll be a hand me down or something someday.
@The tricky tick
Not really. By the time he gets a PS5, it'll be lower in price and more widely available. Also, he has the option of skipping the PS5 altogether now. Just enjoy the PS4 for a few years, then hop over to the PS6 and enjoy PS5 games through the inevitable backward compatibility.
"It's like an entire section of the rental store unlocked for me" jesus I felt that lol. I remember being a late adopter of the SNES too and when I finally got one it really was like unlocking an area on a map within a game. Just wall after wall of games I then had access to.
You're not wrong! 🙂
I'd got out of gaming for a while - life - during the late 80s/ early 90s, but then when the PS1 ands N64 arrived, I bought the consoles because I wanted to get back into it, and so the video game sides of my local video rental shops also became somewhat of a gold mine for me!! I was not longer just browsing the si-fi and horror sections of the VHS tapes, I had this whole new world opened up to me which I'd missed out on for several years!!
It was brilliant! 😁
I love being a generation behind. You start with a masive selection of top quality games to play at a fraction of the cost. Everythings been out for years so guides and patches are plenty. You don't have to deal with the hype and inevitable disappointment that follows. Nothin but positives.
Even Cyberpunk??
Same here… PS4 era I was still with my PS3
Now on PS5 era Im still with my PS4 MGSV Edition.. LOL
PS4 is literally the second PS2 with all the crossgen titles and longevity, great library and the sale figures
i still think its great that sony is bringing AAA games out for the ps4 still, because like you said some people cant get a hold of the ps5 at all or cant afford it , and the ps4 is still a quality piece of hardware
Well no duh! All companies do this for a few years after a new console comes
bruh i can't get ahold of a ps4 for msrp

man Im still at 2020.
Can't believe it's been nearly 10 years since the launch and the response to Xbox Pricing wild man
Love how you actually REVIEW TECH on this channel , one of the last few channels that still has me coming back daily
The PS4 is reminding me of the NES back in the day. The SNES came out in 1991 but games for the NES kept coming a whole 3 years later til 1994. Even though I got the SNES christmas of 91 I still would get some nes game for the next few years.
The Wii got new games until 2020 and Ubisoft published Just Dance 2020 on it in 2019. 7 years after Nintendo retired the console and 3 years after its successor (the Wii U) was officially dead.
The difference is that there weren't many games on the NES that looked like SNES games, especially ports
The PS2 was still getting games until around the release of the ps4 didn't it?
@@jr2904 Yep, the last official game for the PS2 was Pro Evolution Soccer in 2014.
@@jr2904 yup the ps4 is goat’d if they keep it alive well into the 2020s I think it’ll go down as one of the best consoles of all time. When you factor games, longevity, re playability ps4 has all that .
I love they're still supporting the PS4. I usually don't upgrade until 3-4 years into a console's life cycle, after they've done a price drop and a decent amount of games have released.
I didn't get my PS4 until last year; two of them in fact. I had to get both fixed though but even with the cost of repair it was cheaper than buying a brand new PS4 slim, which costs almost as much as the PS4 back in 2013 which is quite shocking as I remember the PS2 slim was being sold brand new around holiday 2012 for $99.99 CAD and came with a copy of Toy Story 3.
For a second I thought I've time traveled
I remember buying my college roommates PS1 and a friend’s Atari XEGS. I got a lot of Atari 2600 games and one Sega Genesis game (Shining in the Darkness) from a friend who got a Saturn. Thanks for the tear down; I picked up a launch PS4 about 6 months ago and need to go in and clean the jet engine it apparently came with.
I got my older sister's launch PS2 passed down to me as a six-year-old in 2008. That, along with my DS and Wii are what I used and loved during the seventh generation of gaming. I eventually got a 360 in 2013, but even then, I kept using my older consoles very frequently. Still do today.
"hand me down" *gives a 2TB HARD DRIVE*
I bought my first ever PS4 last year and I love it. I have it for the exclusives and it's so worth it.
It's also a great way to experience VR for very cheap, you can find easily a used headset for 150 bucks. It's great!
I still have my launch PS4, thing still works to this day. I retired it last year when I got a PS5.
Jail-break it.
If ever there was a favourite uncle in the family, this would be the one!
“Give you a system that is a generation behind, but to you is brand new.”
Ha, I remember back in 2008 when I arrived to the U.S. from another country and my mother didn’t have the means to buy me a 360 or PS3, turns out one of my uncle’s friend had a PS2 with a bunch of games like Mortal Kombat, Gran Turismo 4, that he gave as a gift, and to me, it was the best thing ever to the point I played the system well into 2009 and 2010, causing me to get bad grades my freshman year of high school 😭😭
Congratulations you have been selected among the shortlisted winner's for the ongoing ps5 giveaway What'sapp the number above 👆..........
In 2006 I got my snes. Even almost 3 generations behind. I loved it eversince
This is actually a clever title lol
“We believe in generations” - Jim Ryan
We gave our old PS4 to the kids. They have no idea it's out of date. When I was a kid I was gifted an SNES and Genesis. They were hand me down consoles. Got me into gaming for life. Hopefully I get the kids hooked.
The difference was back in the day when you got a hand me down console, or computer you could tell the generational leap, vs. what was new at the time. In the last 1/2 of this past decade the leaps have been more about can the new system run the same games at 4K 60Hz vs. 720p/1080p 60Hz, and honestly the average person if you asked them could care less long as it runs well, and the game is fun which is part of why things like the Switch/Switch Lite sell so well.
@@CommodoreFan64 yeah but I was 6 and had no idea about different console generations.
@@dragoon1090 Maybe I'm weird because my family got their the first computer when I was 2 in 83 being the Vic-20 along with already having the Mattel Intellivision, and so by the time I was 6 it was 87, and the NES was out, I had a Commodore 64, and got a NES Christmas 88, so yeah I kind of knew what a console gen was by that point. of course I was also the geeky kid in 88 who was dialing up BBS systems on my C64 as well as going onto Q-Link(AOL's original service for Commodore 64, and 128 computers) for an few hours a day(it was pay by the hour plus long distance fees if you did not have a local Q-Link number) going into chat rooms to get BBS numbers from other users, and whatnot.
@@CommodoreFan64 sounds like you had a lit childhood. I didn't get a PC until 2000.
Games worth checking out for PS4: Batman games, From Software games, Dead Rising 1&2, Dying Light 1, GTA 5, Red Dead 2, Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon zero dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 3, Uncharted Collection, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Kingdom Hearts 1&2, Final Fantasy games (7/10/12), Until Dawn, Star Wars Battlefront 1, Just Cause 3/4, Gran Turismo Sport, Battlefield 1, Broforce, Door Kickers Action Squad, Rocket League, Borderlands series. All good games that can be had for cheap :)
the 9 month wait for for this video wasnt worth it. Glad to see youre back though here in 2023, and looking forward seeing some new spawn wave videos again.
The PS4 is still a brilliant machine! however the slow storage is the only unfortunate downside.
If only it was faster or possible to make it faster, the SATA2 is holding it back sadly.
Even in 2013 when the system was released I was like WTF?!?! was Sony thinking?!?! SATA 3 at the point had already been out since 2009, and was commonplace on HDD, and PC motherboards. Even my 13in mid-2012 Macbook Pro has SATA 3 for the HDD(replaced it with an SSD, and I run Solus Linux on it now), and DVD drive.
@@CommodoreFan64 i think PS4 slim and PS4 pro have sata3.
I never tested this myself, but many sources claim this
If this really true - PS4 slim is much better deal then base ps4 in foresight
The PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X have SATA 3 tho
That's so cool of you my guy. Almost every console I've owned was a hand - me down, and I've been thankful for every single one of them. My first console was a PS2 that my grandma gave me. It had been sitting in a closet for about 10 years. Also got a Wii from her too. I've also gotten a ton of other hand - me down consoles from other family members. especially from my sister.
I love my PS4 pro, I still play it. PS4 and ps3 have great games and should not be neglected.
I remember my little brother gave me his old PSX after the PS2 launched. Does that make it a hand-me-up?
got my first ps4 a couple of weeks ago (I was still playing the ps3). I love the fact that sony is still putting their games on the ps4. I now have a HUGE "to play" list and it keeps growing.
In 2018 my brother gave me his ps4 2015 and once I found out that it was the newest console I was the coolest kid in my entire class
If you have a ps5 there’s no need for a PS4
I agree with you in 2023 when it release.
It don't matter its the point of having a collection of PlayStation systems being a proud sony pony
sold my ps4 pro after buying the ps5 its aboslete if you got a ps5 its plays most games better
I still have, and use my launch-model PS4.. It's in mint-ish condition... superfine swirl marks on the glossy plastic, from wipedowns... HDD was replaced with a 1TB 7200 RPM unit from either seagate or Western Digital. it was opened and re-pasted like 3 years ago. Still a great piece of hardware.
I was a SEGA kid growing up. It was my best birthday gift ever when I got a Sega Genesis & Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition from my Dad.
Still using a PS3
Imagine having a tech genius as your uncle, Lucky boy
Thank God they’re still putting out PS4 games, the PS5 has been impossible to find since launch.
ps4 is just as impossible to find. zero new ones anywhere. and even the preowned and "refurbished" ones are ridiculously overpriced
@UnjustifiedRecs no doubt!
All this BS is why I've just been sticking to my Switch Lite, and aging gaming PC running Solus Linux to squeak out a little bit of extra performance.
I bought a used ps4 pro super cheap the day the ps5 launched and I have been having a blast playing all those games I had never tried.
I have never cleaned my PS4. Mine really is the OG original launch model. Pre-ordered it and picked it up on day 1 launch. My son put it in his room.
2:35 i literally just set my niece up yesterday with my old htc vive vr headset running on a gtx 1070 after upgrading my system and headset. she loves it!
I do own a PS4 Pro and for what it is its a pretty nice system, mostly got it as a blu-ray player and for PlayStation only titles, it's done a good job for me & if I need to play multi platform games I have a PC for that, It is nice to see Sony investing still in the PS4
When Spawnwave comes to us from the future.
I have my launch PS4 with P.T. and recently just opened it, cleaned it, and re-pasted it with Noctua thermal paste. It runs quieter than when it was new.
i’m still rockin a ps4 slim but with an SSD instead of a mechanical drive.
Spawn is so cool he already lives in 2023
i remember being so bitter that Gran Turismo 6 wasn't released for PS4 even though it was out at the time. But I'm extremely happy to have Gran Turismo 7 on my PS4Pro now.
Then you got nintendo wishing all of their old systems would just burst into flames
2023? Already dang time Flys 👀😁
Wouldn’t be surprised if Sony made a PS4 Pro 2 before a new ps5 revision since parts are scarce lol
Dude they can even handle de PS5 production, what makes you think they can produce another type of hardware?
The only reason the PS4 is still alive is because the PS5 is extremely difficult to find, that's it
No they need to use the materials and labor to continue ps5 production
The ps4 pro 2 is the ps5 🤣
Bro ur PS4 has gone through a great adventure 😂
I’m still gaming on my Limited Edition Death Stranding PS4 Pro that is hot-rodded with a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD. Yeah… no need for a PS5. I’m still quite happy with my console’s performance in 2022.
Gave my launch model PS4 to my daughter when I got my PS5 also at launch. PS4 is still going strong
They still have new PS4’s at Walmart and Target in my town.
I have a younger brother who bought a Ps5 and he gave me his old PS4 and I couldn't be happier and I'm the Oldest in the Family. I'm just a casual gamer I hardly use the PS4 but I like seeing how there is still games coming out for PS4
Ps4 is getting Trails of Reverie in 2023. I am hyped!
Beautiful. Love the appreciation for older tech/hardware. Lucky to get a ps5 so I use my 4 to remote play to my bedroom(not great). I feel like I’m not using it to its full potential anymore. These breakdowns give u an extra flavor from most of your colleagues. Love these types of vids
Did you travel to the future already?! Dude you're fast!
Hahaha when you said Mortal Kombat 11, I was like… “meh, sounds about right” lol. Hope the nephew enjoys it!!
As a staunch xboxer I received an OG PS4 hand me down after a friend upgraded to the 4 pro, he has many pets in his house and its in very similar condition to your model you acquired. Thanks for making this video I can now give it a proper cleaning.
Cover the piano black panel with 3M clear window tint. Or some automotive paint protection material.
This video title actually aged well.
I got my little brother a new PS4 and I gave my almost 6 year old PS4 slim to a buddy of mine, I have the PS5 but I still hope they keep supporting it for a few more years.
I got the base ps4 in feb 2020 for ff7, I love it, use it all the time and never see myself getting rid of it, as a primary Xbox user it’s so great playing those ps4 exclusives….I don’t get the fan boys, if u love games u enjoys playing on anything u can get your hands on
Your nephew will get to experience long download/load times now!
I love my PS4 pro!! I bought it straight from Sony 2 years ago. I’ve been an Xbox fanboy since 2001 but recently have jumped back to Sony. I missed out on the PS3 but am collecting titles here and there for it. I recently acquired a 8tb external Hdd for my PS4 and a 1tb SSD for my new PS5 I got on March 1st 2022! I love PlayStation. It was the first console I ever pre-ordered and paid for myself. I was there from the start on 9/9/95.
Still using my OG PlayStation 4, got it at launch in the SONY stores at the mall.
My brother gave me his Gameboy Color when I was a kid. I didn't even know about the Advanced until my cousin got one. Played so much Pokémon Yellow on that thing :)
Wow, spawn really living in the future
I have a PS4 Slim and love the thing! I replaced the hard drive with a 1TB SSD just before the PS5 came out. I was lucky enough to get a PS5 early, so the PS4 doesn't get much love these days. I do keep it connected and go turn it on every so often to keep the OS up to date. All that being said...when my PS4 Slim is connected to my 65" Sony 4K TV....it still looks awesome! Just a don't get the full benefit of the SSD, so you gotta deal with some loading screens. I'll probably never sell it because of it's size, and game catalog.
I upgraded my 2015 base PS4 with a 1TB SSD in Christmas 2020, mainly because of Crash Bandicoot 4's atrocious loading times. I previously had a regular 1TB drive in it, and the stock 500GB drive before that was moved into my 60GB backwards compatible PS3 when the hard drive that was in that one failed.
Now I use my PS4 to play games when I'm working on something in the office and can't play the PS5, or to remote play the PS5.
Great video showing the internals of the ps4 from 2014! Great camera work.
The title of the video made me question what year it is for longer than I'd like to admit lol
So glad I got mine in 2026 when the update came out for the new release models, good to watch these old classic vids when 2023 was a simpler time
If it wasn’t for the chip shortage, the PS4 would’ve been retired last year.
Ngl kinda blown away that the casings are sold separately like that somehow somewhere.
The jet engine in 2023 I remember playing Spider-man with headphones on was listening to music scare as hell didn't know what was happening until I took them off.
Oh this system is DEFINITELY still current. Seeing how 95% of gamers still cant get a ps5 because of stock shortages. Myself included
Wow! I fixed my neighbor's ps4 and my friend's ps4 the exact way he did his refurbishment. I cleaned out my friend's ps4 using my mini vacuum (so much more convenient than using an air compressor) when his fan would be so loud and spin so fast that it would vibrate his room. Then I replaced my neighbor's ps4 hard drive when he hit it with a hammer when his kid got him really angry. You should seen the old hard drive. Poor thing had a oval shape to it instead of it being originally rectangle. I was shocked it was still working after seeing that. Great memories 😁
i sold my ps4 pro when i needed money and i knew i would regret it i recently bought an xbox series s because ps5s are non existent but im really missing playstation so im thinking on purchasing a used ps4.
I got a factory recertified PS4 last year, because I couldn't get a PS5. I mostly use my PS4 for PS Now because I don't have many games for it right now and I like how I can actually download PS Now games to my PS4, rather than just being stuck streaming them like on PC.
I'm glad Sony is still supporting the PS4 for those that can't get a PS5. I've got the Slim version of the PS4 and even though many games are capped at 30FPS, I can't complain, because the PS4 is still great for it's time and very on par with gaming PC's, both from around the time and for awhile after it was released.
It's a nice budget option for those that can't get a PS5 or would just rather not spend the extra money on a PS5.
bruh i can't find a ps5 OR a ps4 that isn't scalped to hell
I was the only child, so I didn’t get hand me down systems. I still have all my old systems from the day I got them.
Well if that ain’t a click bait title lol
Sony really messed up by not only having shortages of PS5s, but not even having PS4s as a backup. Plus the amount of PS4s with blue lights of death, especially the OG ones, isn't shrinking.
Happy New year everyone
I grew up on the Wii and don't get a PS3 until 2014. I don't get into 8th get until 2017 with a PC then PS4 pro for Christmas that year so it took me a while to get current.
My hammy down system was a swag Dreamcast when my cousin got a ps2. Crazy Taxi, Sonic, GTA 2 were straight fire
its 2022 and i consider buying my 1st PS4... i never had a chance to buy one but since you can get them at around 100€, i can finally get my own. Ps3 still lives the best life here tho...
I would have gone for a matte finish instead of gloss for that specific piece. Or apply a skin.
Still can’t believe BOTW 2 came out 5 months ago, what a crazy 2023
Rather than having a large hard drive, I rather have an SSD of the same size as the original. Not for having faster load times, since as John pointed, it's bottlenecked by the interface. I'd want the SSD because it produces less heat and noise, which IMHO are a nice trade-off instead of a large capacity but slow storage.
100
I have an SSD in my PS4, but that's also why I got one for my modded PS2. I wanted for there to be less heat generated in the PS2.
@@dapperfan44 I also want a SSD for my PS2 and it's actually quite easy to get but SATA network adapters are being sold for stupidly high prices nowadays.
I put a 1tb ssd internally for my PS4, and also a 2tb external for games... I have an extra 5tb drive just for games that load speeds are not really an issue... I have the external ssd because that USB 3.0 port is faster than the internal sata 2.the.. Everything just runs great.great... Did the same thing for my Xbox One X... I have a ps5 and Series X as well... But it's great not have massive losd times or the Operating system lagging...
I just got a hand-me-down launch PS4. Kinda exciting not gonna lie. This was a very timely video for me as I need to take apart that thing and clean it for sure. I took off the glossy bits and MY GOD was it filthy inside. The fan sounds like a jet engine too.
With x86 processor there is no reason not to release games for ps4. On pc I can run new games on older hardware just turn down the settings and expect less fps.
I want a PS5, but i do not want it's large formfactor, small harddrive, and white color. Once we get a black PS5 slim, i'm in!
U have to wait like 3 -4yrs atleast for slim.. It is supposed to launch next year or max by 2024 .. And then u will again have stock problem for least a year
