I'm an employee. The buffing process is used to get rid of the scratches that they come with when we take them in. It's the worst process and I've suggested better alternatives but have been shut down

You're no employee. Because refurbished consoles are packed and sent to a local GameStop warehouse where then they get pulled apart and cleaned up. Usually they don't even replace a damned thing about them except for the HDD which they have in masses. After is all cleaned up it's ship back to the store and resold.
@@AMaidenlessRunt there is only 1 warehouse. It's in Texas. I've been with the company since 2019. Theres no such thing as "local Gamestop Warehouse"

I'm an employee. The buffing process is used to make the glossy PS4 seem like a matte one, which is more reliable and more unlikely to fail because it's newer.
i bought one from them recently, the only problem ive had was they send me a bad hdmi cable and it also sounds like its going to explode

The only console I ever bought used from GameStop was a used black "new" nintendo 3ds and it was for my brother a few years ago and it was in surprisingly great condition. No scratches and was super clean!
So I noticed that when people buy controllers from GameStop it doesn’t have the back sticker, and when I tried to sell my controller to GameStop they wouldn’t accept it because it was missing the back sticker.. that’s kinda scandalous
It's always good have a console on hand. Even if it's from last gen. Everything is in short supply and it's good to have a lockdown machine. You never know. That pandemic business could happen again.
Pretty rare to get all original cases. That was a nice bonus coming from GameStop
Fortunately, at my GameStop, they don't sand the top, they put some kind of adhesive black layer on top (comparable to electrical tape) which I in turn peel off.
I wouldn't pay the 300 for a scratch ps4 console

I kinda miss my jet engine,i had it since 2017 and sold it in August 2021 when i finally got my new PS5.I still remember the day i first played Resident Evil 7 on my PS4 and completed the game for about 20 times from start to finish.PS4 really helped me get through tough times for about 5 years......and i sold it.I'm sorry my jet engine
I've bought a refurbished Xbox back in the 2000's and I had zero issues with the console. Besides from the way the ps4 looks, hope you luck out in the future if you do anymore refurbished video game consoles

I don't get why you're so certain exactly what happened to the plastic, they could easily have just grabbed it to re-use after someone used it already. I get half-popped & deflated air pouches regularly & would rather they be re-used than thrown out...
i bought a used ps4 slim last year it was in perfect condition there was no sticky buttons on the controller no scratches and 1 tb its like the previous owner never used it
Only used console i ever bought from gamestop was a Xbox 360 slim 250gb. Worked great and was in decent condition.
After seeing the sanded console so many times I'm now expecting this every time I see a used Gamestop console unboxing. Premium refurbished is just an outright lie and in no way reflects the attrocious condition they send them out. The only thing premium about the bundle is the over inflated price and people still buy them.

I paid $240 off of a seller app for a nice hardly used white PS4 pro with matching controller too. GameStop is definitely not competing with the secondary markets as at that price you could’ve scored a slim or OG PS4 for around $150 even less if u hunt.

@@gabrielgalaxygh the app I was using had similar protections to eBay for that stuff, and I did get my money back on a bad Xbox 1 X. I’m done game collecting anyways now as I’ve moved on to modding and crap what I have. Funny enough it took three tries to get working PS2 when GameStop was still selling those. Seller was a GameStop cultist till the third return of GameStop “certified” refurbished console and I nicely pointed out that the third one only worked after we pulled a cord from the back to test it. Had a cord for a dreamcast and wouldn’t fit. I asked him “how the hell did they test it then?”. That stumped him and I left.

When i last went to GameStopi don’t work for GameStop but I asked one of the employees the why they do the sandpaper trick on refibsh console he said it was to get rid of the scratches on the glossy and mat parts

The green thing is called dunnage and the reason it's popped is because, if they didn't the box would mash the game case during shipping.
Well usually someone would use bubble wrap for a game rather than just popping that stuff and then wrapping it around the game
Got the console literally 2 hours ago for 300 bucks and it’s horrible I had a ps4 but it broke so I buy a new one this thing started to heat up dramatically in 5 minutes slow as all hell crashes 5 times and just stopped working how is this even a thing

I got mine brand new for Christmas 2015 (the 500GB original model) and mine wasn’t glossy on the left side.

@@Isafell2001 yes I think so. It was the Uncharted Collection bundle. The other unboxings of this exact bundle show that the Uncharted Collection was a digital code.. mine wasn’t. I got a factory sealed physical copy along with The Last Of Us Remastered digital code. So I’m thinking since I’m from Canada.. I got an exclusive Canadian bundle or something.
aside from the gloss not to bad of a deal honestly, the only deal thats better that ive seen os the 2019 $200 dollar ps4 slim 3 game bundle that i got bit for nowadays id say thats a nice deal!!
I bought that same bundle and someone at FedEx stole it so I had to wait a week for FedEx to even do anything to tell GameStop what happened. I even paid for 2 day shipping, didn't receive my ps4 bundle for almost 3 weeks after the fact...
If you buy a refurbished from eBay you get a one year warranty ( money back from Allstate). If you buy from Amazon you only get a 90 day warranty and always a much higher price (on everything).

The reason why gamestop sand papers the items is because to get the item to match the reason. For instance if u had any thing sticky or a deep scratch on it. So it looks all the same and nothing stands out as much from the last owner. There's some console they don't do it on and normal it's Nintendo and pc stuff

i sort of like the look of the sandpaper thing... but also don't, it doesn't capture the original look of the console, but I also like the look of smooth matte black things, like the sandpaper thing

They probably use Magic Erasers to get off blemishes. They should use a polish and microfiber cloths to clean up the systems.
How are you buying these? Whenever I check Gamestop for ANY used console its ALWAYS out of stock, for everything.

Does enyone know why they stoped the way games booted up on The 360 the games would boot up in seconds but now you have to install them
The serial number being pealed off the back of the controller would make it illegal to buy or sell.
All products that were manufactured with some sort of identification number must not have that removed.
I remember game stop tried to sale me a xbox one s console with serial number was removed but store manager told the employee they couldn't sale the console because the serial number was messing they had to send it to Microsoft to get a new serial number for the console

Refurbished consoles from GameStop are always hit or miss you get good ones you get bad ones it’s a toss up really I always recommend buying the warranty for them just in case it’s defective out of the box it’s an easy swap for another one
It’s sanded because they want to make it look like the glossy part was not scratched

That controller isn’t an official Sony one. The color is fine, but the sticker is removed because fake controllers never had them to begin with. If you open that controller and a official Sony one the components will be very different and much cheaper.

@@Alex-mx3gs That controller use to go for $100 a few christmases ago. I bought a real one and had a fake one as well. Only way to know is to check the components. That would explain why the buttons feel so bad.

You got ripped off. i bought mine second hand a couple months ago because i couldnt get a ps5, i got a ps4 slim 1tb for 230$. Those are old games and are worth 10 bucks a piece, soo that leaves you with 260$ for a 500gb fat ps4 which is no good value :/
