Taking this opportunity to thank you for your work with the subtitles! It’s so so so useful for me who isn’t an English native speaker and also struggle with auditory processing disorder. That said, take your time, your health matters! 🫶
I mean, I get the appeal behind a thousand year old male lead, but I recently read a book (the god and the gumiho) where BOTH leads were immortal and 1000+ and I was glad for the equality. Female leads can be ridiculously ancient too!
I had never heard of the god and the gumiho before seeing this comment, but I literally added it to my list of books to read next just because of this comment
I couldn't get past the author using the term "mouth sweat". No idea what that was supposed to mean. Billows instead of bellows is fine, I can figure it out, but "mouth sweat"? WTF.
The talk about being so burnt out by social media that I'm struggling to respond to my friends in normal life hit me so hard. Thank you for putting it into words. It kind of helped me make sense of why I've been feeling the way I'm feeling. On to the rest of the video.
I am on the third book in the Everflame series. I'm excited for you due to the fact that each book gets better and better. Hope you post your experience reading the next two. It is unfortunate that the last book is hanging in limbo, but fingers crossed that it will work out SOON!! Happy reading!!
lmao I LITERALLY just started reading Quicksilver last night because the synopsis sounded right up my alley and now seeing you kindly rip it to shreds is making me cackle. I'm only a few chapters in and I'm willing to keep going before I DNF it because I personally hate quitting on books so I try really hard to give it a few shots before surrending. I can easily tolerate characters bickering and sparring with their attitudes but what I cannot deal with is insta-lust and romance without proper buildup and having it alter the FMC's personality while the MMC is a sheer unlikeable douche. Fingers crossed. However, Spark of the Everflame is phenomenal. I LOVE those books and characters. I gobbled the first three books back to back so quickly and waiting for the uncertain release of the final book is killing me slowly. But I understand the author is going through a lot of stuff irl, both personally and with the publishing world, so I'm not being unreasonable about the wait. I just hope she takes all the time she needs to send off the story and characters in a way that makes her happy. Keep reading this series though, Cari. All the things you had minor complaints about at the end and wish had more explanation... it all happens in the following books. More magic, more answers, etc. And the romance between the two leads is definitely a slow burn, trust me.
Discovered your content in March and so glad I did! Not only are you engaging and funny (I've gone back and watched alot of your old videos), but I really appreciate that you haven't shied away from discussing real-world topics (genocide) and brought that critical thinking and commentary into your content. And ofcourse, I've discovered so many amazing books through you (crying rn at heartess).
Ohhhh like I know this probably isn’t the right place for this but omggg because her Crave video is so hilarious and my favourite so far from Cari just yeah she summed it up perfectly too and I kinda cheated with the last book because .. yeah I watched her video instead of reading it reminded me of like the late 90s/00 book series “The Vampire Diaries” and felt like a parody of those typa books that came out around then the whole ‘The Night World, Twilight, Nine Lives of Chloe, City of Bones, fallen, Graceling, Avalon High, I’d tell you, Uglies The selection etc etc.
for more context on Burn, Penn Cole has said she's going through a lot mentally while writing the series. She posted on her Instagram that the 2026 date was NOT her and she has no idea where that came from. Currently, she's working on Burn and, just like how her socials say, an actual date is TBD. There was amazon drama because the original date, july 30th, when that got canceled, amazon was canceling peoples pre-orders and getting really mad at her. We stan with Penn and hope she's doing well! I'd rather wait for her to take her time and work through Burn how she sees fit. It'll make the finale that much better. Books 1 & 2 are getting traditionally published. 3 & 4 will follow but not for a little while. 4 will be published both indie and trad to match the sets

It’s comforting and funny! So thank you for all the work you put into your videos, I have watched many a couple of times over and always look forward to the next! 🦋

I’m on book 3 of the Everflame series. The FMC is hard for me to love because of continuous bad decisions she makes or just bickering for no reason. She definitely has the opposite personality of me which is hard to read at times 😂 I still have enjoyed the series so far and I feel that every book has gotten better!
34:02 This is exactly how I felt about Kingdom of Stars and Shadows… I couldn’t fathom why people enjoyed it. But obviously people like Quicksilver as well, so I’m glad to know this is another one I can skip! ❤
I really loved the concept of This Ravenous Fate but I think it needed more time for editing. Some of the dialogue was really clunky and I totally agree with you about action and staging being confusing.
I’m a simple girlie, I see a cari can read video, I click. (Re: your comment about seeing cool book concepts and then not loving the book, which I resonated with) I feel like right now (and maybe always) the publishing industry puts a really strong emphasis on having a great elevator pitch and plot synopsis, which is all fine and good but takes authors’ time and energy away from character-focused writing and analysis, which I tend to prefer over a good concept. That’s just my 2 cents as to a possible reason!
Heyyy, I was just about to pull out my sketchbook this is great timing for such a long video. I do not use tiktok so I have never heard of any of these books but I think this is my preferred way to learn, lol
Thank goodness about Quicksilver! I started it last night and am 25% in and am getting nothing out of it! I can't figure out what I'm missing... besides a fun magic system, likeable characters, and polished editing.
Your read-along vlogs are some of my absolutely favourite UA-cam content. Your comments are always so good and help me to figure out what to read. And which booktoks to avoid… Thank you!! Love your channel
Spark of the Everflame was what got me into reading this year! I only rated it a 3/5 because she was a little too oblivious for a little too long, but the next two books improved imo and I have really enjoyed the series for far! Crossing my fingers for the final book to get published this year 🤞
I started reading The Spark of the Everflame this week and also went down the same rabbit hole trying to figure out about the Burn release date. Loved watching someone else go down that rabbit hole at the same time with me!
28:20 thank you, i'm so glad to hear someone else say it. I completely agree! I never want to hear that word coming out of a mans' mouth! i even dropped a book because the male lead started using the term to describe a female character, no thank you! 36:28 so all he has going for him is that he's mary poppins?
I am also not on TikTok and actually get most of my recommendations from you and fellow readers. I find this so interesting as I've never heard of the books you read in this video so it's cool to know what people are enjoying right now and what a crazy culture booktok must be!
My name is Elise and people mistakenly call me Elsie constantly, you’re not alone! I’ve never seen my name used for a main character though so that’s exciting
I tried reading an enemies-to-lovers book before bed… ended up staying awake until 3 AM because I needed to know if they finally stopped hating each other.
I totally relate to that slump part! It's like, can we just get some good book magic back? But hey, at least we have Cari’s amazing recommendations to keep us afloat! 📚✨
hi cari! I too am on and off of tiktok and have forever lost all trust in booktok recommendations after being swindled into reading acotar, quicksilver, etc etc. I recently found a really good book that I think you might enjoy because I literally ate it up in like 2 days and you’re the only person on youtube who’s interests in books are similar to mine! The delicious piece of literature I will now recommend and implore you to read is called The Magician by Lisa Maxwell. I believe it’s a 4 book series and it’s SO GOOD. I read the first 2 and I’m waiting for the 3rd book on libby. It has time travel, it’s set in the 1900’s/1920’s in New York, there’s magic and gangsters and multiple povs AND slow burn enemies to lovers and the banter is so consistent I was in shambles. Don’t even get me started on the plot twists.
as SOON as they started “training” in the forge i had to dnf quicksilver. i really loved the concept of the story but it feels like it took such a turn there?
Yaaay!!! A new video just in time to kick off my birthday week!! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on Quicksilver 💜💜💜 ***edited to say*** maybe I should learn to read video titles 😆😆😆
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who DNF’d Quicksilver. It’s so hyped, and I wanted to enjoy it so badly, but NO. Myself and another book bestie DNF’d this book, and I didn’t feel so alone anymore. 😂😂😂
The reviews I've been waiting for! I'm fortunately/unfortunately chronically on tiktok so I always here about these books, but I feel like the pendulum swings so hard from best book of the year to DNF and the tide is always changing. All in all, thank you for reading these so we can truly get a gauge of whether to read these books or not. Also, wondering if you're planning on reading When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker (this is also a booktok book that either people love or hate).
I FULLY agree about the needing the visuals mapped out. Idk how many times I’ve been LOST in books because of this exact thought!!! LOVE YOUR VIDOES!! @caricanread
Glow of the Everflame (I think that’s the name, anyway, it’s the second one) is great. Fun time and I enjoyed the slow burn more in the second book. Also, really fell in love with the side characters.
Cari, please read shardlees by stephanie fisher. Ich loved this book so much. I was overwhelmed by the wonderful story and surprised that it is not more well-known and has more fans. It truly deserves it so much. The world-building and the magic system are very well-written, with a lot of attention to detail, and above all, it's something new. The banter among the characters is so sweet and witty. The love story develops very naturally and is an excellent implementation of a slow burn. I love it and i really think you would like it as well!
I'm super excited. Spark of the Everflame is on my TBR and I want the physical copy once it comes out in October(?). Glad you did a review, thank you! Ive heard all the books in the series are really good.
started Quicksilver this weekend since you tried reading it too! I DNFed another long new romantasy (When the Moon Hatched), so we'll see how this one goes. I would love to get really into a new long/epic fantasy book, but right now I have very little patience for purposeless and wordy world-building. for my own selfish reasons I want you to read Stardust Thief. that has been on my TBR forever, but for some reason I can't take the plunge. if you give it a promising review, it will finally push me to read it! 🙂I also just finished the Belladonna series and immediately thought of you, you need to read it!!! it's the only hyped up trilogy I've read recently that didn't have a disappointing last book (hint hint looking at you Once Upon a Broken Heart) - and to be clear, the last book was GREAT!
i love that you’re taking time to respond to comments! i think it’s important keep dialogue with your audience,,regardless of if u respond to comments or not it’s always nice to you’re reading them🫶🫶
I love your videos so much! They always make my week. They’re great videos to listen to when I’m relaxing in the bath Will you do the wolves of mercy falls series this year?
I had a very different Quicksilver in mind and was surprised/confused for a minute 😂 I'll push the Emma Lion books; they're on unlimited and short. Thx Cari 🙌
I liked Spark of the Everflame, Glow of the Everflame was decent but getting annoying, but omg Heat of the Everflame was so, so, unnecessarily drawn out, zero, I mean zero character growth, and I just got so mad that I DNF'D it at around 50-60 %. Never been so angry at a book honestly. I don't even care about the next book or what happens 😡
im having a bit of trouble with pain in my hand cause of too much work on the comp lately so the captions arent finished but i will try to get back to them this weekend! thanks for understanding!

The quicksilver love interest sounds soooooo horrid omg like I would NOT be losing my mind over him the way the female lead is lmao
Excited to see what you think of spark… the cover got my expectations too high I think!
I'm super excited. Spark of the Everflame is on my TBR and I want the physical copy once it comes out in October(?). Glad you did a review, thank you! Ive heard all the books in the series are really good.
lol I DNF quicksilver last night and came back to see your thoughts on it and we DNF at the same chapter lol
I know this is random but please finish explaining the plot of the shadow hunter series Cari! I need to know what happens. Love you’re videos💕
I should really have learned by now that when I see a Cari video I need to just open my library app and get ready to search
20:50-20:51 cracks me up every time
thank you Cari, my tbr just got smaller!
started Quicksilver this weekend since you tried reading it too!
They’re great videos to listen to when I’m relaxing in the bath
Will you do the wolves of mercy falls series this year?
omg youre psychic! that was the video i had planned for this week that i talk about in the beginning of this vid!
I had a very different Quicksilver in mind and was surprised/confused for a minute 😂
I'll push the Emma Lion books; they're on unlimited and short.
Hi Carrie!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these books! I’m halfway through Quicksilver. So far, so good. 📕 ❤ Hugs from Arkansas.
hahahha buckle up!
