i always use the twisted series as my prime example that saying ''i really enjoyed reading this book'' doesn't mean ''i think this book is extremely well written, the characters and the plot are so well thought out, it should be winning awards''. sometimes you don't want to read a good book, you just want to be entertained and have a good, cringy time while reading it
Yes! I feel this. I enjoyed this book as well but I thought that it is objectively "bad". "Very bad kings" is also a prime example. I kinda hated the book (I was a bit disgusted and cringed so hard) but I was entertained and hooked on the snippets of plot and bought the next book.
This! I’m ashamed to say I liked these books and these were very quick reads for me and were the beginning of my return to reading journey. However I don’t normally read books like this. Nor would I use this an an example to be like “this is top tier literature.” Also want to clarify that I for one would NEVER want an Alex. The guy I would kinda want is Rhys for being a green flag but I wouldn’t want ANY of them. I just liked reading the stories, watching each girl in the group find their love story they wanted. I think too many people assume people who read this book are 🌽 addicts. Which I mean… okay I guess I don’t blame them for that but I promise some of us just liked the plot and love story are very aware of how bad it is but sometimes we can’t get enough 😭 I kinda want to purchase the king series (at least king of pride)
Can we also acknowledge the fact that “Ava” is ONE letter off from “Ana”?? This might be a stretch but it really feels like just too much of a coincidence and too similar to not be a detail we’re supposed to notice 😭
Both ava and ana are VERY common names bro, and if it was based of ana I think it's kinda normal I mean if I was a author then I would make a mc maybe similar to me like maybe a similar name or childhood or hobby is it rlly a big deal 💀
Believe it or not, I went to uni with a guy a bit like Alex. He was very rich and was always so moody, and once told me that he had contact who would kill anyone who had “wronged” him (which included a high school teacher who he disliked) because his dad is so rich. He was honestly a bit scary and such a draining person to be around, that the thought of romanticising him makes me feel so uncomfortable. He was quite misogynistic as well and was a walking red flag.
its giving strong elliot rogers vibes for really real. just an unhinged rich manchild whose emotional intelligence is so stunted that in his hands, money becomes a deadly weapon.
I, too, read this book and couldn't stop because of my toxic inability to leave certain things undone. I, too, got exasperated by how much Ana had to remind the readers of how wealthy and smart Alex was. I, too, did not understand the logic of time in this book. Everything was just so bad I had to take notes in my notes app and I ended up with a 17 pages long manifesto on my hate of Alex (tho, tbf, the document would probably be more around 7-8 Word doc pages) Excerpts from it include : - Can we stop babying grown ass women, please? It all started with Josh thinking she couldn't survive a year without him, when she has school, a job, friends and a well thought-out routine. Now, this crusty, dusty, musty man got her followed through two different countries and forces himself into her life AGAIN when she clearly said no and even threatened him with a restraining order. Yes, travelling alone, especially as a woman (of colour++) is dangerous, but no more dangerous than being affiliated with that dangerous, rotten-nail looking, white bazillionaire, who has killed and isn't afraid to kill again. Like, she's better without you and most of her bigger problems started with you so just get away for the love of God. - Alex is my literal nightmare. Imagine having an ex, so rich and powerful, so hung up on you, so jealous of the people around you, you can't hide, you can't fly away from, you can't report, you can't turn the page, you can't find someone else. Plus they so strongly believe they're doing the right thing, they won't back off, won't listen to you, your "no"s and your boundaries (because obviously they know better than you what is good for you?). How do you ever win? How do you ever get rid of them? Nightmare fuel. - OH MY GOD JUST LEAVE HER ALONE I repeat, how is he any better than Ex?? We, the audience, know she kinda wants him back against her better judgement. But *he* doesn't know, he ain't reading the book. So he's just a creepy, taller, stronger, broader, richer, older, more trained, more powerful, straight cishet man following her around begging her to take him back and harassing her and following her places, and talking to her against her will. Just, imagine. He's the Love Interest of this book. I'll also never forget Bridget for seeking him out. Sir was done (even though he had her followed, but really, it is the lesser of two evils) but naaaah, she had to go after him to tell him about Ava's business. SMH - The fact that he wore her out into forgiving him is actually insanity and I ABSOLUTELY hate that
I liked the first bit of this book but the harrassment at the second half.. all that stuff you mentioned killed it for me. Idk why everyones like this.
@@macymiller3417 truly, I thought it was your run of the mill brother's BFF romance. With the pining, the yearning, the "forbidden" aspect of it had me goiiiing. Plus some forced proximity (by way of said brother going away and leaving BFF in his house neighboring that of MC) and some mild enemies to lovers (in theory) AND an emotionally unavailable love interest (because, for some reason I like that, IN BOOKS) AND AGAIN some smut. It had everything for me to enjoy. Except Ana took all the fun out of those things and threw it out keeping only the most disturbing parts and amping them all the way up. I still can't believe how much she messed it up.
I’ve actually read this whole series, and I HIGHLY recommend doing an unhinged recap of Josh and Jules’s book. It somehow involves…blackmail? A break-in? A painting worth millions of dollars that Josh just happens to have hanging above his bed? Jules narrowly avoiding arrest? A MOMENT WHERE JOSH SHOWS UP AT THE AIRPORT AS JULES IS ABOUT TO LEAVE AND IS LIKE “WaAiT i’M cOmInG wItH yOuUu”
Weirdly enough this is the book that I didn’t like from the series, even tho 2 of 4 male protagonist are literal psychopaths and the red flags were as big as a football stadium, those relationships were always consensual in a way, and Rhys imo was the only normal guy there lol BUT when Jules confesses to Josh what she did (under blackmail no less) he forced her to have sex with him so he could “hurt her as much as she hurt him”, nah that moment killed the book for me ngl especially with what Jules had lived through with her ex she deserved better in that moment
This made me realize (as a person who has read this multiple times not sure how to describe it more and more each time) this video has made me see a perfect description. "If Alex was an ugly dude, this book would have been over by the 8th page."
!! stop of course i had to mention you, thank you for bringing string boards to the book world 🫡 and for all of the other wonderful content you make, you're seriously a huge inspiration for me!!
Any time someone, real or fictional, mentions their IQ, I cannot take them seriously anymore. Additionally, love that I didn't have to read this book to truly experience the vomit comet rollercoaster ride this was.
the beef she had with Bridget throughout the whole book is another form of funny😂 also, this video made me realise how the whole friend group is like messed up, they worry about the wrong things and when they decide to help, it’s totally useless or could’ve been way better
alex’s insanely “psychotic” tendencies actually fall in line with him having a really high IQ lol. people with higher IQs are generally not good at adjusting with situations and often have psychological/social deficits which they’ve never been taught how to deal with efficiently. coupled with his already existing trauma of watching his family get murdered in front of his eyes is so overkill 😭 in another universe this guy would’ve been the zodiac killer of philadelphia
As someone who had been around a couple "super genius" people (if IQ about 160 counts as super genius) I would say this is partially correct. I notice some of them have troubles with emotions and have anger management issues. A lot of them had peculiar backgrounds and react poorly to the odd environment they're subjected to i.e. make a lot of bad decisions. I know a batchmate who was on top of our grade (mind you, our grade has hundreds of students), I'd say he was somewhat cold and stern, but damn he wasn't as edgy and cringe as Alex is. Dude was still very much capable of feeling emotions, although he was, and I have to admit, a bit of an asshole
@@jabee_balls I was wanting to comment about the guy I knew who was just like this and was trying to remember his name, and suddenly realised ‘oh shit he was called Alex’ LMAO
As someone who did date a hyper possessive man and was *literally* stalked by him for months after we broke up, this gives me the biggest ick I've ever felt in my entire life. I really wish it ended with the FL finding happiness with herself (and possibly the friend from the end of the book who asked her out) and Alex rotting away to his work (maybe even in jail after literally skinning a man alive) instead of whatever this "story" was 💀
I read this book and truly TRULY questioned the sanity of everyone who recommended it to me. I have not recovered from this book and I read it like 6 months ago
oh my god I am so glad I wasn’t the only person that thought Alex was such a pick me. “Oh I am not like other guys, oh I am better, smarter, richer feelings suck” that was the vibe i got from the man the WHOLE book.
Someone should just take a story like this and make a psychological thriller of it. Make him hot, rich and smart. Make him the classic love interest in a romance book, but she's not interested. She can't do anything about it though. He has her controlled every moment of her life, where she works or who she meets, she can't go to the police because of all his connections. Her friends think he's the perfect man for her and don't believe her. That would be so interesting
You should check out Behind Closed Doors by B. A Paris , what you described is nearly the premise of that book, except she was interested in him from the beginning.
@@Gabrielle-wg4ik I so agree! I loved Behind Closed Doors and yes it was just like this- also "The Wife Upstairs" by Rachel Hawkins has some similar connections
Adding another recommendation: Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes is pretty similar, and it really emphasizes the effects of the trauma inflicted on the main character and also the healing process while still maintaining pretty good suspense the entire time, and it's obvious the author did a lot of research into all of these topics and I think is handled very well. It gets a tad bit unhinged near the end but it's actually well-earned! Highly recommend.
I never thought that "Guy picking up a call from his sister while balls-deep in a random woman" is a scene I would see in a romance book twice, and yet here we are.
*Doofenshmirtz voice* If I had a nickel for every time there was a "guy picking up a call from his sister while balls-deep in a random woman'" scene in a romance book, I'd have two nickels; which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
this is my new favorite type of content lmao edit: Ava, Alex, and Josh are, like, the least imaginative, most basic names I've ever heard. especially together.
Honestly, after reading one too many Colleen Hoover books with names like Lowen and Ryle and fucking LEEDS, I will take basic ass names any day. But also, that's not even exclusive to Hoover. I once read a romance book where the main character was named Pepper. PEPPER. And let's not forget Shepley and America from Beautiful Disaster. Yeah, I'll take Alex and Ava. 💀 (though they're still pretty bland tbf)
@@zombieedrea ahh I get that. Leeds is fucking terrible lmao. I think the problem is it's always everyone has a boring name or everyone has a wild one. names should fit the character lol
@@zombieedrea So I am not alone in being baffled by those weird ass names. Half the time I can't even decide if it's the woman or the man based on name. SHEPLEY. Hardin was also really bad.

@@lunarialoonatic there is a reason it's called guilty pleasure :)
"Enjoy poverty..." That line took me out!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Same!!!! 😂
Can we also acknowledge the fact that “Ava” is ONE letter off from “Ana”?? This might be a stretch but it really feels like just too much of a coincidence and too similar to not be a detail we’re supposed to notice 😭
LMFAO i did also have this thought but it felt too mean to put into the video
Both ava and ana are VERY common names bro, and if it was based of ana I think it's kinda normal I mean if I was a author then I would make a mc maybe similar to me like maybe a similar name or childhood or hobby is it rlly a big deal 💀
@@whiteheartsr no cause both ava and Ana are Asian too😭😭
who is Ana??
@@schnabby208 the Author of the book 😭 Ana Huang
Believe it or not, I went to uni with a guy a bit like Alex. He was very rich and was always so moody, and once told me that he had contact who would kill anyone who had “wronged” him (which included a high school teacher who he disliked) because his dad is so rich. He was honestly a bit scary and such a draining person to be around, that the thought of romanticising him makes me feel so uncomfortable. He was quite misogynistic as well and was a walking red flag.
this is terrifying i feel like the only thing protecting us is knowing that alex is merely a fictional man... i hate that for you
its giving strong elliot rogers vibes for really real. just an unhinged rich manchild whose emotional intelligence is so stunted that in his hands, money becomes a deadly weapon.
And then he meets a sunshine girl and he learns “I guess I have hysteria been missing love all my life” 🥺👉👈
I, too, read this book and couldn't stop because of my toxic inability to leave certain things undone. I, too, got exasperated by how much Ana had to remind the readers of how wealthy and smart Alex was. I, too, did not understand the logic of time in this book. Everything was just so bad I had to take notes in my notes app and I ended up with a 17 pages long manifesto on my hate of Alex (tho, tbf, the document would probably be more around 7-8 Word doc pages)
Excerpts from it include :
- Can we stop babying grown ass women, please?
- OH MY GOD JUST LEAVE HER ALONE
I repeat, how is he any better than Ex??
SMH
- The fact that he wore her out into forgiving him is actually insanity and I ABSOLUTELY hate that
truly it's a canon event to experience this book for the first time and feel like an absolute alien
@@macymiller3417i felt the same way, the plot had sooooo much potential but it went downhill when the whole michael thing happened
Your second point would be such an interesting concept for an actually good book, but this one had to go the weird route

“central america, country unknown.” will take me out every time
I’ve actually read this whole series, and I HIGHLY recommend doing an unhinged recap of Josh and Jules’s book. It somehow involves…blackmail? A break-in? A painting worth millions of dollars that Josh just happens to have hanging above his bed? Jules narrowly avoiding arrest? A MOMENT WHERE JOSH SHOWS UP AT THE AIRPORT AS JULES IS ABOUT TO LEAVE AND IS LIKE “WaAiT i’M cOmInG wItH yOuUu”
screaming LOL god i am not ready for the rest of this series
Weirdly enough this is the book that I didn’t like from the series, even tho 2 of 4 male protagonist are literal psychopaths and the red flags were as big as a football stadium, those relationships were always consensual in a way, and Rhys imo was the only normal guy there lol BUT when Jules confesses to Josh what she did (under blackmail no less) he forced her to have sex with him so he could “hurt her as much as she hurt him”, nah that moment killed the book for me ngl especially with what Jules had lived through with her ex she deserved better in that moment
What in world is with the airport chase😂😂😂

This made me realize (as a person who has read this multiple times not sure how to describe it more and more each time) this video has made me see a perfect description. "If Alex was an ugly dude, this book would have been over by the 8th page."
so many people use the word “unhinged” to describe their relatively normal recaps. this-THIS-is unhinged. thank you for your service.
Alex Volkov is the type of man who would start a youtube channel and upload shorts about being an "ALPHA MALE"
I doubt it, he seems introverted and uninterested in social media lol
HELP i didnt expect to be mentioned lmao thank you for taking one for the team because i was this close || to reading these hahaha
!! stop of course i had to mention you, thank you for bringing string boards to the book world 🫡 and for all of the other wonderful content you make, you're seriously a huge inspiration for me!!
OMG this unexpected crossover like what
Ikr, I love this🙃
Have I read Twisted Love? No. Did I watch this entire video anyway? Absolutely I did.
Any time someone, real or fictional, mentions their IQ, I cannot take them seriously anymore. Additionally, love that I didn't have to read this book to truly experience the vomit comet rollercoaster ride this was.
the beef she had with Bridget throughout the whole book is another form of funny😂
also, this video made me realise how the whole friend group is like messed up, they worry about the wrong things and when they decide to help, it’s totally useless or could’ve been way better
alex’s insanely “psychotic” tendencies actually fall in line with him having a really high IQ lol. people with higher IQs are generally not good at adjusting with situations and often have psychological/social deficits which they’ve never been taught how to deal with efficiently. coupled with his already existing trauma of watching his family get murdered in front of his eyes is so overkill 😭 in another universe this guy would’ve been the zodiac killer of philadelphia
biblically accurate super genius
@@newlynovalmao 😭😭
As someone who had been around a couple "super genius" people (if IQ about 160 counts as super genius) I would say this is partially correct. I notice some of them have troubles with emotions and have anger management issues. A lot of them had peculiar backgrounds and react poorly to the odd environment they're subjected to i.e. make a lot of bad decisions. I know a batchmate who was on top of our grade (mind you, our grade has hundreds of students), I'd say he was somewhat cold and stern, but damn he wasn't as edgy and cringe as Alex is. Dude was still very much capable of feeling emotions, although he was, and I have to admit, a bit of an asshole
love how your name is ALSO alex as you say this . real recognize real
@@jabee_balls I was wanting to comment about the guy I knew who was just like this and was trying to remember his name, and suddenly realised ‘oh shit he was called Alex’ LMAO
The use of the eagle sound to censor cuss words and the highly sexual parts is honestly so hilarious and perfect
“But we’re family!”
“We’re not family, you killed my family”
* The Lion King has entered the chat*
"Central America, country unknown" shouldn't be this funny
As someone who did date a hyper possessive man and was *literally* stalked by him for months after we broke up, this gives me the biggest ick I've ever felt in my entire life.
I really wish it ended with the FL finding happiness with herself (and possibly the friend from the end of the book who asked her out) and Alex rotting away to his work (maybe even in jail after literally skinning a man alive) instead of whatever this "story" was 💀
"Back from Central America, country unknown, just in time to punch his dad in the face" is a hell of a line
i would literally call the police after alex did any of this shit LMAO what the hell
Yeah well you can't since he SOMEHOW has connections everywhere and is besties with everyone

@@thatperson868EVERYTHING is better than credence😭
oh my god I am so glad I wasn’t the only person that thought Alex was such a pick me. “Oh I am not like other guys, oh I am better, smarter, richer feelings suck” that was the vibe i got from the man the WHOLE book.
“I’m not above ruining women” dude, I KNOW WE HAVE THE WHOLE BOOKS TO PROVE IT!
Alex eating that disgusting cookie and pretending to like it is honestly something I would do.
This guy made my jaw drop more than Christian Grey which I didn't think was possible holy shit.
@pelumiadejaiye8654 I'll check it out, thanks 😊
The movie The Invisible Man (2020) has a similar plot.
“is this completely ridiculous? absolutely. but also it’s a little bit rizz” LOLLLLL so true queen, thank you for this work of art
The first time I discovered your channel was from your credence video and now I’m obsessed with all of these unhinges recaps lmao
There are too many amazing quotes in this video, but "And he swears vengeance, justice, revenge, whatever, all of those nouns" takes the cake

this is my new favorite type of content lmao
edit: Ava, Alex, and Josh are, like, the least imaginative, most basic names I've ever heard. especially together.
@@zombieedreacolleen hoover will pull names straight from her ass lmao those names are ridiculous

I honestly think that a lot of Booktok didn't read enough fanfics or wattpad as a kid bc you could get stories on par to this and better for literally no money, really does help assauge any fears of being published though
I had eye rolls multiple times throughout this book but when they said Bridget was a freaking princess by eyes almost fell out of my head they rolled so hard.

Josh going to a random Centeal American country is giving the same vibes as those rich kids who go on mission trips and build shelters for random countries and finally discover what poverty is.

i love the recap but also i kinda like the wattpad-ness of this book lmao 😭😭it's giving 15-years old, 4 am, school in three hours but the "will they won't they" story is such emotional whiplash i can't put it away- vibe that I've craved since that time
Yes. Definitely yes. I miss that unadulterated chaos.

I literally thought Twisted Love was some sort of self insert because I couldn’t remember if “Ana” or “Ava” was the author/FMC 😭
yeaaah. def. Ava/Ana, both of asian descent.. for sure a self insert lol!
To be fair majority of Ana's books have a female Asian protagonist so I feel like she is self inserting most of her books

These books are overhyped to hell on booktok and I see them everywhere in bookshops knowing you can read books like these for free on wattpad. I never really understood the hype for these. The wall stock photos, the red flags, the organized collage, the vibes are immaculate in this video. I have debated reading this book based off of Tik Tok but, after this recap I think it reinforces my thought that Alex is a walking red flag and Ava is colorblind.
