@@hectorg188 That's really interesting. From what I had heard from others about the book so far, I had not expected it to be a book ppl either cried over or were just annoyed/bored by. I relate so hard to the kindle percentages shifting perception of book pacing. It doesn't happen often but when it does it completely changes how you take in the story
This is actually one of the reasons I quickly found myself abandoning my Kindle; that feature really bothered me. Is there a way to turn the percentages off? I couldn't find one.

I remember reading it and liking it but not that much. And then I went back and almost rereading as a whole (I just skipped the beginning). It was so fun, I love it
Oh my goodness, I had my pupils dialated as a teen... on a Friday right before our family put up and decorated our Christmas tree that evening! The Christmas lights looked like lazer beams pointing right at my eyes... it was awful but funny! Along with all the city street lights and Christmas lights on the way home from the eye doctor 😅🤣😂
henry does actually leave the monarchy in the bonus chapter of red white and royal blue! :) so its most likely something that's gonna be explored in the sequel!
girl the fact that you can see them from the distance the camera is set up at 😭 i’m so excited to watch this though!!!!! your videos are such great company
what i loved about the will of the many was how there was finally a clever protagonist. someone who takes all things into consideration and when smth is too dangerous, instead of being like "i'm the main character, nothing's gonna happen to me so i'm just gonna go do this thing and succeed," he just leaves because it's not worth the risk and comes back better prepared. i was also pleasantly surprised by how certain characters were portrayed (A BIT OF A SPOILER) - like veridius who is described as the principal at the academy and so you probably imagine him as this middle-aged/old dude who holds lots of power and will be a nuisance (at least i did) but instead you get this young charismatic guy who gets on well with the students and has you questioning whether he's actually as bad as you were told. also the setting being inspired by ancient rome is just a great bonus to it all. ofc i get that some people just didn't like it but it always hurts a little to hear it xD
Ranking categories are so funny 😂 Babel was so hyped up that I think I went in with unrealistic expectations, I still loved it too and share some of the same thoughts. Please read She Who Became The Sun, it caught me by surprise how good it was!
From Blood and Ash is what brought me into reading. I honestly dont think the first one is that bad, especially compared to the later sequels. But maybe thats just nostalgia. I also really like it, that you dont just "bash" a book, if there is not a really good reason to to it. I dont think this is really needed. The way you make fun of some books is absolutely perfect
Just wanted to say that I love listening to your thoughts are various (especially popular) books, even if our tastes don't always fully line up. You tend to be very well spoken on your opinions, so I can always understand where you're coming from. Plus you're very funny, I adore your line deliveries of cringey bits, and your roasts of characters when they do something insane (Jace's endless sarcasm comes to mind lol). :]
babel will always hold a special place in my heart because it got me into linguistics lol, but i get what you're saying! im not on booktok and barely on booktube so im always surprised when a book i like is apparently popular :) (also the commitment to do this video with your pupils dialated???? respect!)
I agree with you COMPLETELY on the midnight library! I’ve read a few of his books and I will say The Humans is actually fantastic. Absolutely worth the read
Born and bred Seattle girl here! My two fave bookstores are Elliot Bay Books in Capitol Hill (super accessible via our light rail) and Charlie’s Queer Books in Fremont. If you’re planning to visit the Seattle bridge troll Charlie’s is just down the street. If you want a used bookstore Twice Sold Tales is super cute and has a bunch of cats that hang out in the store. If you’re down to venture outside the city a bit another fave of mine is Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park (they do have two locations in the city that are also nice but they’re smaller). I would def come to a meet up! If you want good outside places I’d highly recommend Cal Anderson Park in Capitol Hill (except if you’re coming 7/19-7/21 bc they’re doing a big festival there). Or if you want an option on the water Gas Works Park is really great and only like a 30min walk from a light rail station.
For Seattle bookstores, 1000% agree with everyone saying Twice Sold Tales (the cats!!! the stacks of used books!!!) and the Elliott Bay Book Company. They're pretty close to each other and Capitol Hill is a great place to check out. Side note since it's summer: There's also a bunch of good local ice cream places in the area, too (I'm a Molly Moon's girl personally, which is on the same block as Elliott Bay Books).
Truly a blessing and a curse that Molly Moons is right next to Elliot Bay. I’m basically obligated to get ice cream every time I go pick up a preorder.
this is why i will alwayssss trust your book recs!! the only other super hyped booktok book missing from this list that i can think of is the seven husbands of evelyn hugo- curious about where you'd put it!
I’ve been watching you for years I thought you were 23 years old this whole time 🤯 now I understand why you have such great book opinions, you’ve got wisdom girlie!! ❤
The Love Hypothesis was also my first ever romcom and i imediately bought Love on the Brain after being publisbed. I like Ali Hazlewood cause her books pull you into the story so fast, without her i wouldn't even have tried other romance books and for that i'm, as you said, forever grateful
SO happy with the cruel prince rating 🥰 It’s my comfort series and I always miss it. Still havent found anything similar that isn’t full on smut or odd writing styles
The Love Hypothesis was one of the first booktok books i read based on a recommendation from my best friend and i completely ATE IT UP, i can see why some people may not like it, but its just such a fun read, it's like disconnecting your brain from real life and getting to enjoy a silly romance. The girls who get it get it
This is great! I love the way that you ranked everything, and I appreciate the time it took you to do this while your eyes were dilated!! From Blood and Ash was a book that was picked for my bookclub, and I voiced my dislike for the book in a similar way that you have. The girls were really upset with me, you are courageous to voice your opinions online for any random person to see.
I'm so relieved to have found other people who agree with this take of FBAA. I listened to it for the first time, also blind, and I nearly put it down SO many times because I was so angry. It's the only series I hate listened. Consent is a joke in it, the ridiculous power scaling, the worldbuilding that genuinely sounded like the author was pulling stuff out of thin air. Like, I love ACOTAR. It's such a comfort series for me. My blood pressure rises just thinking about FBAA.
seattle book stores: first is elliott bay - which is the best by far. There is also third place books (there are two locations, maybe others can recommend which is better - ive only been to the one in ravenna). and twice sold tales! There are two twice sold tales locations and both have cats!! (just dont go on the weekends or it may be too crowded to comfortably look around). Also you have to go to uwajimaya and the bookstore there - kinokuniya! i hope you enjoy your visit!
I hate pupil dilation! I'm currently doing my re-read/re-listen to Watership Down I've done every year since I was eleven (never mind how many years ago). Hope your eyes clear up soon an know we appreciate all the work you do for us! :-)
I love you for the “the love hypothesis” ranking my book taste is really eclectic 😂 but have always felt ashamed of my silly little romance books (and lately I’ve been SHAMELESS about it and having so much fuuuuun)🎉
It's super interesting that you don't find yourself often swayed by fanart to pick up books because that it absolutely the number one factor that will lead me to pick up a book that's gotten popular lol, but it's probably partly that as an artist I am curious about what other artists are reading. Great video! and very strong of you to record this while dealing with eye pain D:
A lot of my freshmen and sophomores are reading IceBreaker and it's a little weird. But if their families are okay with it, that's their call. I'd also much rather them read IceBreaker than Colleen Hoover which was really popular amongst them the previous year
for Seattle definitely Elliot bay books a staple! Also it’s in cap hill which is one of my favorite Seattle neighborhoods (lots to eat+do great music scene etc.). Twice sold tales which has v cute cats (cap hill location is better than Ballard in my opinion but Ballard is such a cute neighborhood if you have time check it out). Ophelia is a cute store in Fremont also one of my favorite neighborhoods. Neighborhood tier list would be Ballard, Cap hill, Fremont. Also pls pls pls do a meet up if be over the moon! A great spot for it would be volunteer park. Very accessible lots of space. lots of green space, pretty conservatory, Asian art museum, and a gorgeous view. Hope to see you there!
hi! this is kind of a general PSA but if by painful you mean your eyes are sore/light sensitive after dilation that’s totally normal but if any of y’all EVER feel sharp/pressure like pain, nausea, darkness of vision after being dilated tell your provider immediately you could be going into angle closure and that is probably the fastest way to lose your sight permanently
Me, loving Ali Hazelwood's 'stupid' books, seeing you rank it so up: THAT'S MY CARI. I LOVE HER. I LOVE HER EVEN IF SHE HATED THIS BOOK, BUT I LOVE HER EVEN MORE FOR LOVING THE SAME SH*T I LOVE. OH HE HATES CH AS WELL. BESTIE, WE NEED TO DRINK A TEA TOGHETHER WHEN YOU VISIT HUNGARY NEXT TIME.
I had no idea Will of the Many was a BookTok book but maaaaan did I love it. I'm a sucker for magic schools and the whole revenge of the underdog thing.
Low key have been wanting to try the 'The Cruel Prince' and didn't want to be disappointed like I have from other book recommendations on line and because I love your retelling of 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' series more than when I read it so I trust your opinion
Great video💕. I love the Embers in the Ashes. More people need to talk about it. I've literally read the first three books this month and I'm going to read the fourth book soon.
An Ember in The Ashes series just got new covers for their 10 year anniversary and I think a lot more people are going to pick up this series this year!
Seattle person here! Would love a meet up at maybe a big park? Volunteer park, seward park, or carkeek park are wonderful options with plenty of space! Also, some great book stores you have to check out - Elliot Bay Book Company and Twice Sold Tales (a used book store with cats!)
Welp, that art for One Dark Window has sold me too. To the TBR pile it goes. XP It's funny, I'll actually be in Washington in July, but not in Seattle itself. Too bad, it would've been cool to see you IRL~ Hope you have a good trip!
i just got so many books and audiobooks bc i had audible credits backed up and a thriftbooks gift card, Very happy to see your recommendations line up w some things i bought, my booktok intuition has gotten a lot better lol
I feel so seen about The Serpent and the Wings of Night. I had so much fun with that first book then just....."it's so bad I'm unhauling both" from the sequel
of all of these books i have only read red white and royal blue because i don't really match with booktok (i don't really read fantasy either) and i would die for RWRB... but it also it hits different when you are trans because henry's experiences are SO trans coded it had me sobbing. i just love it so much.
Always appreciate your take on popular books, I'm an old millennial without TikTok 😂 I appreciate your taste, it lines up with mine in a lot of ways, I don't always love the books you love but your recs have definitely helped me branch out and read new things, thank you for doing what you do! ♥
Regarding the Holly Black news, i went to her book tour stop and Las Vegas, and she did confirm that we will get one to two books maybe about the Undersea. So there are more Elfhame stories to be told.
I love you for putting The Love Hypothesis in the top category above Babel 🤣 I would die on that hill too and I’m slightly embarrassed because it is so silly but I can’t change what I love 🤣
I hope you enjoy Seattle! You are coming at the BEST time! 🎉 Seconding Elliott Bay Books, Third Place Books, and there's quite a few bookstores inside Pike Place Market too.
Seattle adjacent person but. Twice Sold Tales is excellent. (Also deep sea Salt and Sugar it's a cake shop) The historical district of Sumner has A Good Book (which locked me in once) and there is a British style tea house called the Secret Garden nearby plus a quinicental American burger joint with excellent shakes called Dairy Freeze. And it's just a fun area.
I thought no booktok book could be worse than from blood and ash. BUT THEN, powerless came along. Absolutely horrified to have read that book and truly not understand how anyone enjoyed it.
Im so angry about Fourth Wing because i bought it at the "sweet spot" you mentioned and then everyone was like "hey actually this sucked" and it was too late to get my $15 back
I don’t know if you’ve read the prequel to Legends & Lattes, Bookshops & Bonedust but I’d definitely recommend checking it out! If you want more after that, I’m about halfway through Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea and it has the same cozy fantasy vibes. It’s also about opening a shop in a small town, and the characters are so likable and charming
I recently read Icebreaker just out of pure curiosity and I absolutely *LOVED* it!! I usually don't read romance but I was very surprised by it! Definitely a fun time 😂💕
I get those eye drops once a year so I feel your pain. I don't even take the bus back afterwards I just walk lmao, it's too much. I'm flabbergasted that you managed filming this video in a well lit room without sunglasses on not gonna lie..
One of my favorite cafes in Seattle is Moonrise Bakery, which is right next to Queen Anne Book Company. Plus Kerry Park is a short walk from there and has the best views of the city!
I'mma let you have The Love Hypothesis bc I read my first romance bc of you recommending it. I didn't start with it though bc Love on the Brain was a skip-the-line item on Libby and I really enjoyed that one but The Love Hypothesis made me move into the Ali-verse and I'm a happy resident ever since. No regrets. 😬
I’m sad you hated The Spanish Love Deception, but I get it. I went in expecting to be meh about it, but had a really good time. And having had coworkers I loathed, I totally got the enemies to lovers thing. I’m also a major reader of manga and manhwa and this kind of plot and silly set up is common and I eat it up every single time. 😆
you should’ve put sunglasses on, it would’ve made it easier. Especially outside, because the sun can really hurt your eyes if your pupils can’t constrict
The Humans by Matt Haig is genuinely one of my favorite books of all time. I would definitely recommend giving it a chance if it sounds interesting to you at all! I enjoyed Midnight Library for the most part, but nowhere near as much as The Humans.

Probably isn’t said often enough, but thank you so much for having real captions on your videos and not just the auto generated ones. You’re a star ⭐️
I still have to finish these but glad that they are noticed hahahh 🙏🙏
real captions *and* a list of all the books mentioned in the description! love it so much
Agreed, it's SO helpful
Yes, I have audio processing issues and it’s so rare that you find good captions that actually capture the correct language
Yes! She's one of the few YTers who do it too. So great.
Moment of appreciation for cari's piercing black orbs, truly the star of the show
the real cruel prince experience is reading the first book and having mixed feelings and then slowly becoming insane about it with the last two books
I was meh about the first book until the coronation, and then I was HOOKED FOR LIFE.
I've never read a more accurate statement.

I'm so glad I've watched this and seen this comments! I've been really struggling not to DNF this book but the things to come sound so exciting! ✨
putting 'a little life' in 'i feel nothing' is actually hilarious 😂
the book that made me feel depressed for months going in "I feel nothing" like WHAT
Exactly! I cried for 90 % of that book, I'm not even exaggerating.
I agree... Did not cry at all and the main character was so annoying I was so done with the book in the last part

I am LIVING for the Chappell roan referencess

@@NonAnonD That's possible, it was an older model. I'm glad to hear it's an option now; thanks for the answer!

I’m soooo glad that I’m not alone when it comes to The Will of the Many!! I started to think it was just me. You made my day!! 🤩
Yes this is the best!!! I am so happy for the new upload. Thank you!
XP
It's funny, I'll actually be in Washington in July, but not in Seattle itself.
"That's not my issue, I don't know any teens" at 22:29 sent me 😂
Always appreciate your take on popular books, I'm an old millennial without TikTok 😂 I appreciate your taste, it lines up with mine in a lot of ways, I don't always love the books you love but your recs have definitely helped me branch out and read new things, thank you for doing what you do! ♥
Dude, also 1991 baby. I consume tiktoks via Instagram reels haha
Girl, the effort of doing this even though you were in pain): greatly appreciated!!
Read The Humans by Matt Haig!!
It's funny because I really don't share most opinions about books in general with you. But I do like hearing you talk about your point
I hope you enjoy Seattle! You are coming at the BEST time! 🎉 Seconding Elliott Bay Books, Third Place Books, and there's quite a few bookstores inside Pike Place Market too.
The love hypothesis… I love it and I will love it forever, okay? Okay!
Cant wait for you to do this tier ranking with all the fantasy books you've read but i think that would be hoursss long haha
Seattle adjacent person but. Twice Sold Tales is excellent. (Also deep sea Salt and Sugar it's a cake shop)
The historical district of Sumner has A Good Book (which locked me in once) and there is a British style tea house called the Secret Garden nearby plus a quinicental American burger joint with excellent shakes called Dairy Freeze. And it's just a fun area.
I thought no booktok book could be worse than from blood and ash. BUT THEN, powerless came along. Absolutely horrified to have read that book and truly not understand how anyone enjoyed it.
You moved The Cruel Prince to the top tier and I whooped and immediately subscribed. ❤
Crave is a lifestyle that I cannot escape
Im so angry about Fourth Wing because i bought it at the "sweet spot" you mentioned and then everyone was like "hey actually this sucked" and it was too late to get my $15 back
16:49 I did not finish this book and feel so validated about hating it lol because I absolutely did.
I even tried to read it TWICE
There is an extra chapter for White, Red & Royal Blue in the collector's edition that takes place a few years after the ending!
Ooohh a blue tier ❤❤ also 'getting home without my eyes' 😂😂
Hope you're feeling better now, thank you for pushing through discomfort for us 😢😢😢
One of my favorite cafes in Seattle is Moonrise Bakery, which is right next to Queen Anne Book Company.
