    Throw out a helpful tip for you: The blades on the landplane are slanted to one side. If you stay on the right side of the road (from your perspective in the cab) and work back and forth, you'll slowly (very slowly) build up a crown on the road. This will help the driveway shed water into the ditches. Otherwise, good work. That branson seems like an amply capable machine.

    Hank, nice video. Yes land planes are nicer than box blades. Luckily my dealer recommended the land plane when I purchased my tractor and I had it in my package instead of the standard box blade. I know that you worked that gravel pile for the video. I usually get my gravel man to spread it when he delivers it. He doesn't charge any extra to do that and he is quite good at it. I then just take the land plane over it a couple of times to dress it up and make it a little more even. Of course I do also prep it with the land plane before he comes with the gravel. Life is good, may God bless!

      @@HamiltonvilleFarm I dearly love to work roads but you got to get the sides where water will leave the road itself OR like you're fixing to do, slope the troad to a set point and put a turnout in it to get rid of the water. Remember, the longer water runs downhill the more damage it'll do and you'll have to routes in the toad where your wheels roll. THERE's where that plane will shine; knocking down the middle into the routes. GBWYou!

    • @stephenhinkle3277
      @stephenhinkle3277 2 роки тому

      Millings is the absolute best material you can put on your driveway if you're not going with pavement or concrete. I actually prefer millings over pavement.
      I have installed several driveways with asphalt millings and it's not even comparable to crush or gravel. Gravel is great for a good solid base but I would never ever go back to gravel as a top coat finish after seeing all the benefits of asphalt millings.
      Benefits:
      1.cost for material is less $9.5-11.5 per ton (in the middle Tennessee area)
      2. Dust (almost dust free after it bonds together)
      3. Wear (doesn't grind away every time you drive on it)
      4. Quiet (much quieter than gravel)
      5. Packs. (It will literally melt and bond back to asphalt over time doesn't berm like gravel does)
      6. Maintenance. When applied correctly (good drainage)the maintenance is basically none. No more Grading, or adding material.
      7. Smooth. The surface is smooth and flat like pavement.
      8. Appearance. Beautiful driveway that looks like a paved drive.
      9 Grass. Grass does not grow up the middle like gravel drives applied thick enough.
      10. Water repellent. Water sheds off and doesn't soak in like it does with gravel
      11. Snow. Millings will heat up because it's black and snow melts faster.
      Just my .02 worth

    A box blade can do more than just leveling, whereas a land plane only does leveling, so it depends on what you want to do... If you only ever expect to do driveways, then get the land plane, but if you want to also be able to do other things, and still be able to do a OK job leveling driveways, get the box blade..

      Yeah,it's funny you should say that, because we had a trip planned back in May, I think it was, but Corona shut everything down and we haven't rescheduled it. But soon I hope. Thanks for watching Bob👍

    Why don't you angle the land plane to one side and grade it so water runs off one side into your ditch ?

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah. Ill probably end up using my rear blade like that and adjusting the 3 point hitch to divert it that way. Good call!

      Hamiltonville Farm if you have a ditch on each side of your driveway, you what a crown in the middle of the driveway. That way water runs from the center of the drive into the ditches. It does not take much rise to shed water.

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah I need to "shape" it for sure.

    If your driveway has a crown in the center instead of flat, the water will run off the sides instead of down the driveway.

    Rear blade to pitch a driveway regardless of material, less routine than using a land plane,
