Great video but especially showing true family values. Taking care your entire family. Imagine your family must be close to each other. Take care and God Bless you and your family.
Excellent video today Mike. I bought a land plane fairly recently and it is one of my favorite attachments. It's almost idiot-proof which may be why I like it so much!
Nice video Mike . Looks like that Land Plan is well worth the money . It does a great job in grooming that driveway . It also helps if you know what you're doing which you do .
Please look into a "Floating Top Link" for the land plane. It would allow the plane to articulate a little and run evenly on it's skid rails. These are commonly used in 3pt finish mowers.
You actually need a solid top link adjusted to force the rear blade down to make it cut similar to the front one. If not, the land plane tends to want to just tip forward with the rear blade not doing anything. Top link adjusted with down force for the rear blade and a hyd side link is the best setup. Side link lets you tip the roadway right or left to your choosing.
Suggestions for rebuilding the stream bank so it will not erode the driveway. Watch these two videos for a general idea of how to get the water to slow against the driveway and flow faster away from the drive, they are a bit long but have some good info there in them that can be applied to your situation. ua-cam.com/video/oeSMSZUJGCM/v-deo.html&t roughly the first 7 minutes or so listen for thalwag and vanes, and in my tiredness this day I cannot for the life of me find the other video that shows how to move the thalwag and what effect it has. Regardless some of the dam removal videos and river restoration videos show the same thing, install a vane into the bank you are trying to save to direct the water away from it. You could probably use some big-ish rocks, say roughly 3 feet long by 18 inches wide by 4-5 inches thick or so, stick them down into the creek on the thin edge and dug down into the dirt point the end in the creek upstream and have it lower than the edge that is stuck into the bank by the driveway making a V shape, pack lots of compactable gravel and dirt around the stone where you dig it out. If you get it right you can actually bring the bottom of the ditch back up as sediment and what not settles against the rock upstream of it. You have to make a levee/lock system with the rocks in the grade to do that.
@@robrusticwoodlandproducts6662 That sounds about right. Did a series on the back blade, box blade, and land plane for maintaining a drive and showed how to use them.
Hi. Between a boxscraper, rake, rear blade or plane land what do you guys think will do a better job on fixing an old compacted gravel driveway. It does have a lot of gravel already. I'm trying to see what will be a better purchase for what I need
Mike, you have cost me a lot of money......and taught me a lot! Thanks! Bought a tractor, land plane, box blade, grapple, roto-tiller. Built two buildings! Life is good Outdoors with the Morgan’s!
Trying to decide on land plane vs box blade for my RK24. I have a steep gravel driveway that washes out on occasion with super heavy rains. Leaning towards the box blade. Any suggestions, Mike?
Please revisit this in a newer video. Just what have you done with a landplane since? I'm sure it's a essential need somewhere on your future projects.
I'm interested in how your post hole digger stays so vertical. I hook up my post hole digger to a little Yanmar 165, and I usually have a helper with a pole to the gear head at a 90 degree angle to hold lateral vertical and as I go down with the digger I move the tractor forward at a tangential to keep fore and aft vertical. In other words, I can dig a five-foot deep crooked hole very easily. Still better than without any tractor.
Hey mike update on the WA900-8 Stan told me he had 4 trucks come up to the ranch each dump truck was 20 yards they dumped into the bucket the drivers were in awe as the last truck dumped into the bucket of the WA900-8, Stan said it was three quarters full the guys asked what is total load, Stan told them 170 tons he said the look on their faces was great, I guess we own the biggest front loader in the valley, one of the drivers said, Lucky lack mine has the 900-8s loading the huge dump trucks two buckets and its loaded is what the driver said, 170 tons per bucket two and dump truck is loaded next truck please.
I worked on a job once where a WA900 was working. I was a Blaster working at the Kentucky Speedway when the track was built. They had a WA900 there moving the rock I blasted. Massive Loader!
Hi Mike-Its impressive how in so many of your videos you are dropping the gravel evenly from the bucket as you go. I believe I have seen every one of your videos, and unless I missed it, don't believe there is one showing the camera angle from inside the cab when dropping the gravel. This one gave me that idea as at the very beginning during the intro you look like your ready to start dropping it and then it cuts away. I thought how awesome it would be to watch from that camera angle. If it is in covered in another video, maybe you could note in a reply. If not, its just a suggestion as it would be great to see your technique from that perspective. Thanks again for everything you share here!
Nice job Mike. You've got to take care of your mother. She took care of you for a lot of years and apparently did a good job of it! Have you ever had your mother in your videos?
I had a similar problem but it was crossing my driveway and washing it out. The pipe was too small so I put in a larger corrugated pipe that was covered in a silt fabric, then I put 3 - 4 inch stone over that and topped off with more fabric then stable mat and crushed stone. Problem solved, two years later I had my complete driveway covered with fabric, stable mat, stone, then reinforced concrete. It wasn't cheap! My driveway is over 2 thousand feet long. Boy did that take a bite out of my wallet! Keep up the great videos. The corrugated pipe will let most of the water to flow through then the remaining will flow naturally.
MIKE, you always make jobs look EASY! Great information, & another good video! Me, Im afraid to START a job sometimes because of the "time factor" won't let be able to finish completely.
Hey Mike, good repair on the driveway. Water moving down is sure destructive and is a continuing problem. Have fun with it as you need too. Thanks for sharing with us.
Good job Mike. Your Mom will appreciate this I am sure. Mike, I mentioned it in a earlier video on the use of road fabric. The low side ditch running alongside the d/way would be a good spot to use it. I prefer using my bucket but a angled scraper blade can do it too. Positioning your bucket perpendicular to the ditch, you can cut & shape it to your liking. I like the bucket because it gives me better control with quick results. Once you achieve the look you are looking for, now it's time for the road fabric, cuts easily enough with a utility knife. After it is layed down, now your ready for the riprap. Two things are accomplished doing this: (1) You save the stone, it stays on top of the fabric, forever & (2) it helps to contain weeds that tend to grow in these wet environments. I mistakenly lent some of my fabric to my 80 year old neighbor down below my property a few years back. It was originally a 500 ft. roll but had about 286 ft. left on it when I let him take it home on his tractor for a small project he was working on. I allowed him up to a 100 ft. & no more than that. It took me close to (5) years to get it back & when push came to shove, I called Forbes & insisted I need my road fabric back, please... A few hours later he shows up with it, takes it off his truck under one arm & throws what was essentially an empty roll in the yard, i.e. 27 feet. Yes, I was pissed, big time. The moral of the story, NEVER AGAIN will I lend that man anything! Bill on the Hill... :~)
Makes it almost to pretty to drive on it ! Dang if ya do and dang if ya don’t , could you use posts the length on that side ? Maybe just move the driveway over about 6 feet ! Lol. Good luck 👍
Wow, I've used a back blade on the back of an old Garden tractor to clean up my driveway for years and was thinking of getting a box blade. Now you have me rethinking this idea. Thanks for the video Mike.
box blade is just as easy once you know how to use it and the box can do many other things in addition. I once tilled a 1/4 acre 4-5 inches deep with the tines on my box blade and can be used to move dirt or gravel in bulk not just turn it over. best to have both.

The rip/rap is great idea, for controlling the flow of water. Another possibility is to lay down some sort of mat that's used to control soil erosion and make several piles of the rip/rap in different places along the length of the area. Unless that's a small branch, then then the rocks should do the trick.
Mike... I don't know if it will work for you but if you can find some plastic culvert pipe that is being tossed and use an old chain saw and cut it in half lengthwise and line the ditch with it... you've got to have lots of construction contacts where you might find the pipe without buying new... just a suggestion. Do you think a 35 HP tractor can handle the 7'? (my 35HP Branson weighs a lot, 4500 lb)
Are you able to ajust the plane to leave a crown in the driveway or is it a fixed design pretty much just levels? Thanks in advance!
Another excellent video Mike keep up the hard work we love watching these videos!

That land plane looks like the cream of the crop for gravel drive maintenance
Just got my daily RK email and you was at the top! Great work yall. J love the videos. Hope yall are doin. Good

Of course you could cement it or put half pipe in.. Most likely the labor kill you on cement and rerod
As always another good informative video keep up the good work.
Great job enjoyed that, I have a box blade but I think a land plane has a better results at the end !!! I have got to get one

NEVER USE BLADE ON FRONT BUCKET TO BACK DRAG / BUT USE THE BACK OF THE BUCKET TO BACK DRAG
Problem with Land Planes is the don’t get rid of the pot holes. You need to below the pothole in order to fix

sorry for the mouthful and earful, but if it ain't your thing it will take years to find all that information.
Put some geotextile before you put any rip rap down, this will prevent the water from washing out underneath the rocks.
