    Some advice. Don't let it load up as much as you did in those soft spots, unless you are purposely trying to carry a lot of dirt to fill a particularly big hole. Only load it enough to keep the material flowing through it, it will work much better. I am speaking from experience. I have 2 land planes that I use a lot. You will also notice that you don't need so much horsepower to pull it when you don't overload it.

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  2 роки тому

      Yeah it just wasn’t flowing when the material was muddy. For sure used all the horsepower when built up.

      Dittos. You can see in a couple shots the Land Plane is not level, fore and aft. It must ride "flat" for the best material handling. Great job.

    I have one as well and I’m using a larger tractor too 120Hp One thing that helps a lot is to install a Hyd top link on ur tractor. To cut down hard material make just the front bite and to smooth out lower the back and when coming up go slow when raising and taper it out. One last thing add about 1000# to it and that helps the most.

    Land planes like gravel, but hate sod, leaves, sticks, and mud. They level by having the gravel flow over the blade not under it.

  • @RetiredUnderachiever

    That’s awesome 👏 good Information! Actually made me think of a good point with all that gravel the plane was actually holding and the size tractor one uses because the tractor had to be able to move all that gravel your dragging. Wow!

      There is ways to cheat such as lift a little so not dragging as much material. Smaller tractors need a smaller one. 7ft is pretty good size. Its very fast thats what I like about it

    Looks like your front blade was digging more than your rear blade (tilted forward). Ideally, you want them doing the same amount of work.

      I just used a land plane for the first time with a BX23s. I need to level it out because only the rear blade was digging. And my left side tail was dragging too.
      Only had the tractor for 2 days. Lots to learn.

    Nice job on the driveway. One option you may want to consider is a set of rear blades for your landplane. When you have a full load of gravel and you pass over a pothole or group of potholes you can lift the landplane, pull forward a little, drop the landplane in front of the pile then back up and cover the potholes. It will lessen the trips up and down the drive. Good luck with your channel!

    This is a good implement for working on driveways if used the right away. It’s not set correctly and that is causing the front blade to cut too deep and the back blade is doing nothing. Level it out before you start working using the 3rd arm. Set your depth with the bolts and plates on the side skids. If you see the material building up that much, you’ll know you need to make an adjustment.

    I should receive my Homestead Implements 72" land plane mid October. My tractor is a Mahindra 1626, so 72" is as big as I can go given the horsepower qty. I have a soon to be built (next two weeks) 1450' long driveway and grading with a box blade or econo blade would be too difficult and time consuming. The existing driveway easement will cease soon so I had to hire someone to cut a new driveway. This time through my property. The shortcut easement was good while it lasted.

      Soybean Farmer thank you sir. Hope your season is great I have been so busy haven’t had much time to watch much UA-cam. How do you crown with them just adjust the 3 point at a higher pitch in the middle?

    • @SoybeanFarmer3300
      @SoybeanFarmer3300 4 роки тому +2

      @@WorldsOkayestFarmer on the three point one of the arms should have a manual screw adjustment allowing you to raise or lower that arm. You're going to set the angle so you're bringing the material back to the center of the road. Crowning a road properly forces the water to run off to the ditch on either side and eliminates puddling in the road. First work the road flat and fill in the potholes like you did, then set the crown.

      Concur on the need for crown - I do 3-4 turns on the right side to drop it about 2” and keep to the right to bring gravel to the center, then level it up to round the crown down at the end.
      It looked like your back end needed to be dropped an inch - might have been the reason your material bunched up in front. That and it was a little muddy and sticky. That was a fairly gnarly condition for a driveway. It would be interesting to see after a couple rains.

    These tools must be used when the gravel is driest. See how it all builds up and doesn’t fall like it supposed to? Holes definitely need ripped as well. Granted you have to work with what you got so maybe it was just a wet season and needed done.

  • @bucksgarage1
    @bucksgarage1 4 роки тому +2

    Do you think the gravel would roll over the rear bar better if it were dryer?

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  4 роки тому

      Buck's Garage yes it will I did my driveway which was all gravel no problem. The center of their driveway was higher wet dirt so that was a lot of build up. It still wasn’t an issue. I didn’t even put any extra gravel down.

    • @fedup3582
      @fedup3582 2 роки тому

      It works better when it is dryer but too dry and hard packed hinders its cutting ability. When working on soft roads or in muddy conditions, lift it a little so it won't cut as much and load up so much. You only want to cut as much as will keep flowing over the blades. Even at reduced cut, the blades will carry plenty of dirt to fill holes.

  • @dehavenfamilyfarm

    I have seen these before, but never used one. Looks like it did a pretty good job. Can it be adjusted to crown gravel driveways? In my area, the crown is important for water runoff. You sure got a great deal on it too!!

      DeHaven Family Farm thank you! It will not crown straight and level.

    • @ralfie8801
      @ralfie8801 3 роки тому

      I'll bet you can make it crown by lowering the 3 point arm on the right side a crank or three to make the plane deposit material in the center of the driveway. It would be a learning curve on how to set the grading height to dig on the outside and deposit in the middle, but it should be doable.

    • @fedup3582
      @fedup3582 2 роки тому

      You can build or maintain a crown. The angled blades work the material across the width of the blade, helping to fill ruts but also to build a crown. Just lift the trailing end slightly and drive to direct the flow of material in the direction you want it to go. I have been using mine for years to build and maintain crowns.

I have a Land Pride Box Blade that uses those stupid things, but on it the clips are down in the hole with the ripper and you press the V Clip together and pull it up out of the slot with the ripper.
