    You can crown or cut a V by adjust the tilt of the land plane using the lift arm leveling assembly on the 3pt hitch.

    The land plane sure does a nice job. I've seen you work on your driveway numerous times now and it seems like its just not routed well for the water. I think you either need to build up the stone several inches higher so you can effectively divert water to the sides, or you need to reroute the driveway so it doesn't follow the fall line

    Good job. My opinion is we can never win the battle with mother nature. The best we can ever do is work with her and adjust accordingly.

    Couldn't agree more about spreading stone by pushing backwards with the land plane. I have to do it all the time maintaining our steep road that gets the "rumble strips" in it. That said, I'm custom making a 6' land plane that is attached to a quick attach plate and mounts to the loader so I can do the same thing while driving forward. I almost have it finished, except for finding a used land plane, a quick attach plate, and the time to modify all of it and weld it up....lol.

    Hey Mike, You do realize when you use the land plane backwards you are using it rock against normal probably A36 steal, not the Abrasion resistant steal it has on the cutting blades forward? It works yes, but the steal won't last over the years that way, blades are made to bolt on replace, that support steal will probably have to be cut out and new welded in.

      My LP Grading Scraper has replaceable cutting edges on both sides so going backwards is no issue. I ended up bending the metal on my cutting edge on my previous one, however it didn’t have a replaceable edge so it got mangled when I hit a rock.

    40 years in the business wrenching on cars of all flavors.
    Jeep is now a mass produced piece of garbage made by FIAT.

    Jeeps are way over priced.

    Your main drive have you considered you’re pitching it incorrectly?
    We grew up with a similar driveway on a small family farm with a drive with a fairly steep driveway sloping up to lake ur house on a hill.
    Logic says pitch it left and right, crown in center. Then one day my dad said I’m tired of dealing with constantly driving in and out with ruts on the left and right where my tires are suppose to be getting traction instead it’s pot holes.
    So he called in a paving company and they said unless you have a specific ditch on both and
    Lleft and right side of drive. Then you need to pitch everything to the center and let the center of the driveway be come the ditch. If it washes your tires straddle the wash out.
    Eventually we had it paved and they purposely kept everything pitched to the center until the water leveled off at the bottom of the hill.z. The reason being if the water pitched left and right if would have undermined the freshly laid asphalt causing side erosion and breaking off the sides of the asphalt.
    Just wanted to share.

      We call it soil cement in East Texas, and is simply mixing in portland cement with the subgrade material. This is done by placing the cement on top of the subgrade with a bulk cement tractor trailer rig with special dispensing tubes. The amount used is dependent on many factors to numerous to mention here. After the cement is placed a machine that looks like a giant troy-built tiller, and is called a stabilizer, mixes the cement and a layer of subgrade together while adding water to control dust and begin hydration of the cement. This is followed by graders and compactors which develop the final grade. This must all take place before the cement cures. That's why they always seem to be in a hurry.

    One nice feature on these Land Pride land plane is that the blades height is adjustable on each side. To crown a road, you can set one side lower than the other and let the blades do the work for you instead of trying to incline the whole tractor.

    • @OutdoorsWithTheMorgans
      @OutdoorsWithTheMorgans  4 роки тому +1

      Yea you can definitely adjust them, I just like to keep the land plane level and do it the way I did because it's faster and easier for me. Also if you were wanting to pull some stone back up a driveway you would have to keep adjusting, or make sure sure your passes are in different directions for each side of driveway

    • @davidmorse8432
      @davidmorse8432 4 роки тому

      I remember a time before box blades when we used a straight blade behind a tractor. You could angle it and drop one edge to shape a crown. More like a road grader. After that, take the land plane and work each side to take out ripples made by the straight blade.

    • @johnsadler8637
      @johnsadler8637 4 роки тому +1

      All we ever have had is a straight blade. If the drive is too flat, we drop the right lift lever with the crank and pull some back to the middle. I turn the blade around to smooth. I’m not sure I could accurately back up the 300 yards of relatively flat drive up on top and I’m not ever going to back down the hill. That’s a recipe for a serious accident as steep as it is. I might experiment with turning the blade around and knocking out some of the rolling humps - those tend to build when the front goes over the top so the blade jumps up and then gouges. Good idea.

    Feel your pain about dogs jumping up on the couch. Got a 70lb Pit/Husky mix and adding a Great Pyranese to the mix this Saturday, so when it gets to forgetting it's no longer a puppy that's a 120+ dog forgetting she won't fit in your lap anymore.

    Hannah looked like she had had a tough day. She also looked like she was discussed about having to replace the headlight again. At the end of the video, she seemed to be perking up while trying to play fetch with the dogs. Though, it did look like more of a game of I will throw it, then come and get it from you, and then go back and throw it again. My dog used to play that game when she thought I needed more exercise.

    I agree Mike. We have a Subaru crosstrek and an F250. In the snow the Subaru is unstoppable.

    I agree with you about the Subaru Mike, I worked in a Subaru/Isuzu garage for years and always preferred the Scooby for snowy roads

    Just want to tell you I received a yellow Simple Strap today in the mail. It is going to be wrapped around some lumber yard boards in the very near future.

    Thanks for the lesson, getting 4 x 16 tons of ABC delivered & tailgated later this week. Going to try the backward land plane method.

    Hey Mike, what are you doing with those limbs of fat lighter that you’re cutting off the logs? Those would be great for Melissa to use in your fire pit for starting those nightly fires. Great video, as always!

    Mike you do need for the long run some cutting edges on the backside of the land plane. Your words ( I like to push backwards )

    I have limestone too I put calcium after then it really packs. And no dust. We are way up north in manitoba Canada so I also use it for ice melt. We have lots of ice and cold but it works great

    You should try using road millings on your driveway sometime. Good compaction.

    A cutting edge will help to preserve the land plane. Without it and if you do enough grading it will wear it out and then you will have to have it cut out and replaced. Once it is worn it is to late to add a cutting edge.
