- API Accu Clear | Does It Work?
I have heard mixed reviews on this product, so naturally, I needed to try it myself! API Accu-Clear worked GREAT for me. Typically I use Seachem Flourish Excel for a cloudy or green aquarium, but it just wasn't doing the trick this time! The API Accu Clear dosage was also smaller compared to the Flourish Excel.

@@cleasnclkeasn9448 No, a bacterial bloom is a reaction to your water parameters being off. I would not suggest using this product if you’re thinking you’re water is cloudy due to a bacterial bloom. 20% water changes every other day would be your best bet to help the tank stabilize. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions! 👍🏼
That product is amazing! I got mine today and it worked in 7 hours!!!
ADKIc3mAnXYT Yeah man, works great!
A good video. Thanks! In support, I'd like to say that I too have found this to be a really effective product. I keep some White Cloud Mountain minnows and a large 'herd' of 20+ bronze Corydoras catfish in a 150 litre tank (that's 33 UK gallons or 40 US gallons); they're busy, fascinating, peaceful, delightful little guys, but they do make it difficult/pointless trying to use a gravel vacuum/syphon to clean the tank's [swimming pool-filter grade] sand substrate. (The tank also contains a lot of Java fern, bogwood and has a partial carpet of catappa leaves.)
Basically, the catfish have such a ball churning things up that there's never any solid visible waste or poop to remove. Crud gets chomped and dispersed so thoroughly that it dissolves into the tank water; the external canister filter (an Eheim with an air diffuser outlet) does a great job, but sometimes an ultra-fine brownish-yellow haze (dirt, not tannin!) stays in the water.
I admit that I have a tendency to overfeed my fish, which can cloud the water with nitrate issues. Anyhooo, rather than changing the filter wool virtually every day (all that disturbance is bad for everything), or use super dense wool pads to catch the micro-particles (tightly-packed fine wool reduces filter flow too much), I use Accu-Clear if things get too cloudy. It tends to be maybe once every three months.
The product clears the water beautifully, doesn't clog the filter wool, and over 5+ years has meant that I've only needed to do a 33% water change and filter clean once a month. Everybody wins!
Accu-Clear has no adverse effect on the fish, and the dosage is remarkably small, so don't be put off by the tiny container - it's potent stuff.
My cuddly Corys and I recommend it. ;-)
I can honestly say this stuff works incredibly. Cleared up my 75 gallon in under an hour. Highly recommended
Can you use it with fish inside ?
@@Onyx1776 I did and it worked great. I did hear it’s very important not to overdose
Free Discharge too much most likely, read the instructions maybe
How do I know if my water is cloudy or bacteria bloom?
that API is the truth my tank has never been clearer
You have to smack the guy who told you to empty the substrate directly in to the tank. I'm glad you're getting a handle on it.
NYGOLD Yeahhhhh 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks man!
How do you add substrate
@@visionary6498 - Hi! The actual pouring of it into the tank is not the problem. The problem is not rinsing it in a lot of clean water first. The fish-shop guy was obviously proud of the product, which must have had 'pre-washed and ready to use' or something printed on the bag. Don't believe the hype! Everything that goes into your tank needs washing first. Even your hands!
Sand and gravel substrate needs to be rinsed in clean water until no more muck comes off it. It could take 15 minutes with a hosepipe, pouring the stuff between two big buckets. When no more dirt comes off and the water's perfectly clear, give it a final rinse in water taken directly from the tank. Leave it 5 minutes, then drain it again. It's now ready to go into your aquarium.
Tipping it gently out of a submerged bag (as shown in this video) is perfectly fine; the main thing is to have given it a really good rinse first. :-)
Nah he need to smakk himself for listening wym
@@EleanorPeterson Of course pouring it in will cause cloudiness, doesn't matter if you washed it or not, as soon as you start adding things and disturbing the substrate in there you're going to have cloudiness, regardless of how much you wash new stuff that you're putting in.
Just make sure you DO NOT overdose as it will make it very cloudy and can take days to clear up
Oops lol
I just diddddd how long will this take to clear up 😢😢
Oh man I just did how long
@@biggaruddesly6015how long did it take
I cleaned my gravel but not quite enough and needed to know
I use this and love it..it’s my last resort though...when doing regular cleaning and cleaning filters if it get cloudy but I use it very sparingly because I’m afraid if it gums up tiny particles so the filter can grab them I’m afraid over using may hurt my fish so less is better and I give it a day or 2 to do it’s job :)
Definitely don’t make a habit using this product! The less chemicals you use the better.
Been using it for years never had a problem with fish
Substrate you are supposed to to wash before adding to fish tank.....everyone adds it straight from the bag....the dust in bag is a huge sign to rinse in colander before adding to tank.
Yep, on a prior video I mentioned I was testing a method that someone told me to try. Obviously didn’t work 😅
How many drops for a 5 gallon?
Agreed, and thanks. I used substrate for live plants, the package says no rinse needed.... I'm gonna ignore anything regarding aquarium instructions that says no rinse or clean required, just going to do it.
I just don't like that they don't show the ingredients for it.
I heard good results and I have used it myself it's going to cloud your water for a couple of days and it's like 10 to 13 dollars when hydrogen peroxide is 68 cents and works faster and my fish and plants are just as fine but let me not if that good
I prefer API to seachem, I've used this before and I think your dad is right, it's a coagulant. Nice vid.
Hobbyist Fishkeeper I use API for some things and Seachem for others. Both great brands in my opinion! Thank you! 🤙🏼
Great video, I use a few different API products with great success. Thanks for sharing.
DeFreese Aquariums Same! General Cure is a must! 🤙🏼
Great review dude thanks 👏🏾👍🏾
My fish tank water was kind of cloudy. I added soms of this product. After 25 minutes i see a bunch of white particles all over the water
What type of filtration do you have? It’s somewhat “normal” that that happens but it should be getting picked up by the filter
Simply avoid adding substrate at any point other than in a dry aquarium. Will always cause cloudiness and using additional chemical products such as accuclear is not the most naturalistic approach to fish keeping . Would have cleared up in a week using some chemical filtration additives such as carbon
it doesn't affect anything in the tank... safe!
The cap measurements are confusing based on the directions
I’m currently using this. Can you only use it once a week or can you use it daily? I used it once this morning. When can I use it again if it’s not gone because my tank is still a bit cloudy and I used it this morning.
Good recommendation. Keep up the good work
Michael Eugenio Thanks man!
This is the stuff ever !!!!!
Just uses some but now there's just a carpet of semi translucent junk on the bottom, do I just siphon it out?
Has anyone’s turned milky cloudy? If so how long should I keep waiting it’s been 24 hours. It literally looked like thinned out milk pouring it in.
In laymen’s terms, the way that is works is that it makes smaller pieces of whatever is floating stick to each other and then it will get picked up by the filter. Do you know what you have “floating” around your aquarium? Is it a bacterial bloom maybe?
Im going threw this right now I didn’t wash my sand and I’m going crazy trying to clear the water and was thinking it was a bacteria bloom but it started after the sand so I been treating the wrong thing
This definitely works well but it’s super important that the dosing is correct otherwise it can be lethal to your fish.
Can you put it in the tank with your fish or do you have take them out?
You can treat with the fish still in the aquarium
@@LongIslandFishGuy thank you so much!
I'm rlly late ik but I just wanted to ask the 3 days that we wait will we have to keep throwing the drops it uses?
Continue using the treatment
Ok thank u so much
Is it safe to add with fish in the tank or do you have to take them out?
Yes, it is safe to use with fish in the tank
That oscar is massive
Great video mate 👍
Simple fish Life Thanks man!
I am chemical free until something goes wrong, which it did the other day, found a parasite hanging out of one of the neons. Nasty.
Resonance That’s never fun, good luck!
Ah here we go! Ok so I have a topfin Powerfilter sf20 I think. Its just one of those tack on filters that come with their 5 galls. Anyway. Got a 9 gal. I know its NOT a bacteria bloom because I used established water. And it was really clear before I put in API accu-clear. I though I could get “glass grade” water and really should have done more research. Turns out you need good mechanical filtration for the API AC because it clumps. After a few hours it looked like a blizzard. So I swirled it around and after it settled still the same. So I did two 45% seperate water changes. There is no longer enough of the API AC to make it look like snow. But the water is not clear. Its like white tinted. I have white lights but I looks like white water not what it did before, and a lot of white stuff is sticking to my moss and plants. I did buy today online a Fluval Aqua Clear 30 filter. It says it has mechanical filtration. But I’m really really beating myself up over what I did
Oh thank Jesus for you dude, I was having a panic attack hAHA
Did you add it with the fish still in the tank?
Andrea Austin Yes
That product is amazing 5 ⭐
Should I take my betta out when I use this? I fed him brime shrimp for the first time and it seems to have made my water slightly cloudy. I have a 5 gallon topfin tank with a filter. I’m new to owning a pet and I want him to be as safe as possible.
No need to remove him, but if the brine shrimp is what made it cloudy it’s suggest a water change. If brine shrimp has been in the tank for a long time it may also cause ammonia to build which would also cause a bacterial bloom.
I know these are a lot of new terms, but there’s many possibilities for cloudy water
This made my water foamy what went wrong?!?!
Hi Api,
My 26 gallon bow front tank is cloudy and I tried one 2.5 ml does over 2 days ,still cloudy! The 3rd day today I charge the filter media In My Fluval
207 canister filter. Should I try another does tomorrow? Please advise ?
Thanks,
George
I am not API but are you sure it’s not a bacterial bloom maybe? How new/old is the tank?
I don't know if anyone has an answer to this question, but I was curious about using API pond accu-clear in an aquarium. Since the normal dosage is 0.25 cup per 600 gallons, the dosage per 1 gallon would be 2 drops.... the question is, is this product safe to use in an aquarium setting? It's safe for fish, obviously for ponds, so would it work for a goldfish in a 40 gallon? Thanks
Some Petsmarts reviews show ppl use the pond accu-clear for their goldfish tanks. But you might want to do your own research.
I have tried over 10 seachem products when will it end?
dont use seachem clarity, use this
This stuff turned my water cloudy. I changed out 80% of the water and it's still cloudy.
Anthony Johnson Definitely not from this product
Its flocculation process like wastewater treatment
Do I have to let it sit cause my tank is way more cloudy
Have to let it sit at least a couple hours depending on how many gallons your tank is. Let the tank filter
I'll recommend to wait for a few days if ur tank is big my is 55 gallons I put 100 drops cuz we thought 120 will be to much and it's working just fine so just let it sit for a bit
Came from insta
Team Instinct vlogs Welcome!
Purigen is the way to go dude
Did it make it cloudier when you first put it in?
No
It takes a while to clear up tho
Will the cloudy water due to substrate settle eventually though? say over 1 month period?
cloudy water due to substrate always clears in a day or maybe a few days.
How's it going, I've recently utilized this conditioner on my 26 gallon tank during the last water change, which was on the 19th of this month. I've also placed in Stress Coat _10 milliters Aqua Essentail_5 Milliliters, and salt one table spoon. Then I added 5 milliters this. This stuff seems to be making my tank very cloudy! When I would use only the other two it would clear up in about a week and half. But I have 12 fish so it would cloud up again in three weeks. I was trying to keep it crisp till the next change. The instructions say apply weekly. In your vid you applied in three days. Could this be the problem? I apologize for so long.
Did you have ammonia in the tank? Aquariums should not get cloudy on a regular basis. If the tank naturally becomes cloudy then something is wrong
@@LongIslandFishGuy What happned " in my case" is that I can't utilize 5mm of this. I can only use 1mm. Since then the tank clears up very crisp and.foesnt cloud. Unless it absolutely requires a water change.
do I just pour it directly into the tank? or inside the filter? My tank still cloudy :(
Out
It doesn't kill the fish?
If you overdose it, it can kill fish
I used this yesterday woke ro to my filter chucking out white gunk any ideas why
No, that’s very odd
@Long Island Fish Guy could active carbon in the filter of reacted with it
Does this work in saltwater reef tank?
no! it says on the bottle of this product that it’s only safe for fresh water :)
How much should I put in a 26 gallon tank
read the bottle
Hello there, bro, I'm subscribed to you!
Accu-Clear is definitely amazing i tried it before ran out my tank was clear until i changed to a sump gave it time to get out of new tank syndrome but it never cleared up for two months and got green about to buy more to fix it
Did we really need to watch you unbox?
I dont know who told you NOT to rinse sand first but they should be fired from the pet store they work at. . .
Andrew Gillespie 😂😂😂 agreed
So you can add it while the fish are in it? Is it safe?
I got a 10G with about 12 small tenants in it. So I think the different foods I feed them makes it very cloudy. Or just the fact that I have too many fish in there?
Yes, you can use this while fish are in the tank
i put it in my 50 gallon 10 hours ago and it’s still clody
Fish Out Ohio I needs a few doses, not just one. It will take a few days. DO NOT overdose the tank.
@@LongIslandFishGuy did u take your filter media out during the addition of the accu clear
I followed the instructions on the label and it killed 5 of my fish. Is this normal?
I use it while my fish are in the tank? I heard this kill the fish.. need help
Awesome video Thanks for sharing FishFam NJAE19
So, I happen to work at a fish store and I just want to defend the person who gave you the recommendation. Its up to them to recommend you the right product and make sure you're satisfied with it. It is not the employees fault that you incorrectly added the substrate to your tank. That's your job to know about and do the research...I was all fine and dandy, we all make mistakes myself included, until you had to go and mention that you made the action because of your lfs associate. Can You Guys Quit Blaming Us For Your Mistakes. Thanks.
The comment below about smacking the guy...Lol for what, doing his job? recommending you some sand substrate? *sigh*.
April Marie If someone recommended a restaurant to you, and you eat at the restaurant and it’s absolutely terrible, you have stomach pains for a week! Who’s fault is that? Some would say it’s the restaurant, some would say it’s the person who recommended the restaurant. I mean after all, you wouldn’t even have gone to that restaurant if that person didn’t tell you about it! What YOU’RE suggesting is that it’s the person who is eating the food or listening to the suggestion is “wrong” or at fault.... I’m gonna assume you get a lot of flack for being “wrong” at your fish store. Maybe you’re not giving the right advice? 🤷🏻♂️
@@LongIslandFishGuy I went back and watched your first video where you claimed your mistake was listening to the guy. I wouldn't have added a bag of sand to the tank like that...Or recommended someone do so, Didn't see the initial video first explaining what the guy recommended which...IS wrong care info but...still my point of doing your own research before blindly taking advice still stands. A lot of people who work in aquarium stores actually do know their shit. Contrary to popular belief and there is a double standard thats perpetuated about 'pet stores'.
You assumed so wrong it's not even funny....
