    My tank was cloudy and eventually went clear after about a week, I did a water change and it went milky cloudy again. My tank has been fully cycled, so Idk, I think some people are right when they say just leave the tank and don't do water changes until the water balances out.

      @@funheartl1567 I just left it alone, fish and all and let it cycle... the water changes = unbalanced and I kept upsetting / restarting the cycle. tests showed up scary, but i used microbe lift (like prime) a few times to control it and all turned out well within a few days!

    You wanna know how to get rid of cloudy water? Leave the fucking tank alone for a few days without changing water or adding fish or food or any of that crap. Just cycle the tank and let it sit and you'll have crystal clear water.

    Yea this is true because when I first rescaped my new tank I had to change water every single week or 2 times a week and after I started adding more fast growing plants to my aquascape like pogostemon stelatus octopus they started growing like weeds and I just kept on trimming and replanting to the point that I have a whole wall of it on the background and it’s super cool to see and now I don’t have to do water changes for a month or more it’s basically balanced and yes I still test the water to check everything is good

    Add COTTON into the filter. In a way that water has to flow thru this cotton. Its very fine and will take out any greenwater algae and similar particles. Keep it only 24 hours as it can clog quickly and start decomposing.

    Choose your fish food wisely. From my 10 years of fish experience, i can tell you im definite terms that cheap fish food will always cloud water regardless of how much you put in there. Stay away from Tetra foods. Buy organic flakes if you must or feed live foods.

      Very helpful video but 20% daily water change until correction is definitely not the simplest or easiest approach. Nothing clears green water algae and bacterial blooms easily within just a few hours except Jungle Clear Water (potassium permanganate) or Tetra Cleaning Bacteria. By contrast, Poly-Fil, water clarifier liquids, water polisher pads, and UV sanitizers take DAYS to show any improvement at all.

    I know I am late to the party but…. I really appreciate your knowledge of what the cause and effects are. Of course keeping that water clear requires a little help by us hobbyists. Don’t over stir the gravel or Stratum or whatever you are using. I use Stratum in one tank and not in another. I love seeing the growth in both tanks. By the way, thank you, at 8:35, for solutions too!

    I kept saltwater and freshwater for 40 years now with no problems and never do water changes. I use homemade plexiglass tops that stop water evaporation and use sponge or homemade internal filters, and internal pumps. My very first aquarium was a 20 gallon saltwater hexagonal tthat had a 2 foot yellow-headed moray eel from a garage sale. I kept it for 9 years and he was three feet for most of that time with a hang on filter and an under gravel filter and I hardly ever changed the water. I also never test and I always enjoy my fish!

      I’m new to the game here and my daughter is stressing out. Cloudy water and I have prime and stability bottles, clear drops, test strips, it’s so confusing. You mention plexiglass top on your comment and homemade sponge filter. I don’t have a full top on my tank it has partial cover and lights. Do I need to cover the lid fully?

    • @kevinkey5270
      @kevinkey5270 7 днів тому

      @@df4480 cloudy water is usually from over feeding or a ph problem, did you cycle? Never get in a hurry adding too much to quickly. My top only has a corner removed large enough for the air hose and cords for the heater and circulation pump. An easy/cheap way to get started is with guppies or mollies that can be acclimated to saltwater. I moved 8 years ago and restarted with guppies as it takes the stress out of cycling. My first salty added was a royal grama baslett that had ick and the ick killed them all as I tried every medication available until I used a crazy amount of heat to stop the ick, I believe it was 92 degrees Fahrenheit and the baslett survived. P.s. I have a breeding population of guppies in a freshwater pothos planted tub setup making the hobby both fresh and saltwater easier as well. I do everything with them first.

    • @kevinkey5270
      @kevinkey5270 7 днів тому

      @@df4480 just like hungrybird I also hang a little bag of carbon. If you do this make sure the string doesn't hang over the outside edge of your tank as the capillary effect will pull the water out and all over your floor. The first time it happened to me I thought I had a seam leaking.

    • @df4480
      @df4480 7 днів тому

      @@kevinkey5270 that why I bought a bottle of Prime and Stability to help the cycle process. It’s say apply every day for a week. My daughter also had sand and it clogged the filter pump. Now she has just pebbles and if afraid the sand will make the tank cloudy again. Like I said, I’m new to the game so any advice is great. So do you recommend flex glass to cover the fish tank?

    Hmm it’s weird because I have 2 new tanks. Before water is fairly clear. It’s still in fishless cycling now. Two days After water change ( almost 100%) both of my tanks get very cloudy… the only difference this time is: 1) 90-100% water change 2) spend hours without refilling in water because need to add new plants 3) before the water change there is longer period of blackout ( more the 20 hours ) ~. I use Amquel plus water conditioner and API bacteria booster .. 😢😢😢😢 why is this milky !!! The only good thing is that the aquariums of both don’t smell as bad as before 😂

    Hi Nick. I may be wrong here but just thinking out aloud. The white cloudiness is caused by the heterotrophic bacteria which cause the bacteria bloom & which are the same bacteria that you use when culturing infusoria for fry by decomposing organic vegetable matter. The bacteria feed on the organic matter creating a bacteria bloom making the water milky & the infusoria then feed on these bacteria & multiply and make the water clear once they mature. Therefore wouldn't it make sense to add infusoria to a cloudy tank to feed on these bacteria & clear up the bacterial bloom. These infusoria will then provide food for the fish in the tank.
    Please let me have your thoughts on the same.
    Thanks once again for providing great content. 👍👌

    The problem is that if you are adding new water to the tank, and the water you add has ammonia (as do many tap water sources), then you're adding more nourishment for the bacteria that cloud the aquarium water. You didn't mention one important thing - UV sterilizer. This alone can eliminate cloudy water within a few days.

    I have cloudy water. The tank is a very well cycled 60lit "ecosystem" tank, 5 years absolute hassle free running. Tank population is only neocaridina shrimp and 5 fish - tiny flame tetras. The tank is well planted but, over time, has become ovegrown. So we decided to thin out the plants. Until this point, the water was crystal clear and the filtration is a buck standard interior filter with perlon wool only. Substrate is dirt from a peat bog, capped by fine gravel. Thinning the plants went fine, water changes as usual. and yet the tank stays cloudy. There has been a few individual shrimp that died, but no "die off". The tank is otherwise very healthy, the shrimps and fish are doing great and water tests are normal. How do I remove the cloudiness .... floculant ? When doind water changes, I only use natural spring water, nothing out of a tap. I have 7 tanks and all have the same water, only this one is affected. Could it be that the tank is "too old" ie. depleted and needs renewal of the substrate ?

I intend to have a population explosion in rotifers/moina/daphnia before I put in the fish, and sadly I don't want to add ramshorn in there because they would wreck all the dead leaves I put for cover for future microfauna, as you may know, a few ramshorn can decimate dead leaves in a matter of days. The bioload atm is immense but I was wondering if the foul smell at the surface was normal since I was lacking flow and an airstone previously(3 days ago) and if it will go away in a week or so. After I cleared some surface stuff I also added new weapons to tone down nitrates, salvinia variants, some hygro i had on hand, hornwort and frogbit to see what does best. I also mixed PH down to drop ph significantly for quicker nutrient uptake, so in all of this madness...can I do better? anyone?

    I don't know what to do with my tank at all. I clean the filter all the time I have a 4 gallon tank and only have 2 fish in it and two shrimp. I am new to owning a tank. My filter is one that came with the tank it's just cartrges that I am only supose to change once a month but I have this fuzzy green stuff growing on my live plants and I keep getting the green stuff on the glass inside of the tank. I got a fish tank cleaning sponge to clean the glass I only feed the fish by what the guy told me at the fish shop to feed just two clicks of the fish food I have. I don't know what to do at all. Please help.

    Thanks dude! I just set up a planted 30 gallon tank yesterday n was washing the substrate for about 10 min for each portion that i put in but the water never cleared completely. I admit, i might’ve gotten a lil impatient with it so naturally, when I filled it i got a 30 gallon cloudy mess. Gonna start to 20% a day till it goes away today

    Cloudy water because of bacterial bloom? Just feed less and let the bacteria that clear up the cloud grow to clear it up

    Have 28 gallon tank for 3 weeks and have 12 fish in it. 6 black skirts and 6 neon tetras and have no ammonia no nitrite and no nitrate. If tank not cycled wouldn’t I already have ammonia showing up? I was given a cycled sponge to put in my filter before starting the aquarium.

    I started with a 3.5 gal tank with a Betta and mystery snail. Also bladder snails introduced themselves in on some plants. Keeping the water parameters good was a hard task. I now have a fortress 10 gal for my Betta. Water changes aren't needed, the tests all read good. But due to the bioload from the snails. I do it every week. After water change I dose tank with stability, have had great results.

    How about adding snails and shrimp? Would that help as well?

    this is why you should always add a pinch of flake food in your tank per 30 gallons of water everyday you are cycling. and set your lights to a timer even if you have no plants of fish in there yet.

    protip, always grab a bit of dirt and toss it in. helps cycle 100x faster
    also, add a UV filter

    I didnt know I had to pre wash and clean my aquatic sand so it was dirty and misty cloudy foggy etc and what we did was wait for it to set for an hour or 2 then ran the filter for an hour but tis still cloudy in the middle of the tank away from the tanks glass. What can we do if we didnt clean it the first time, the fish are in there and they are fine but I hate the cloudy water still left - what can I do

    If I put the filter back in will it clear the water if I stir the sand around a couple times a day? Or should I do the filter with water changes?
