I have been doing landscaping and yard maintenance all my life and I can tell you that was some impressive, back-breaking work you did Al scraping that sidewalk clean in 100+ temperatures. It is so hard to calculate how much someone else would have charged to clean that sidewalk like you did because you just can't find people today who will work that hard. My hat is off to you on this one. There are a lot of people with channels on youtube, but I cannot think of anyone who works as hard as you do.

Al, I have been there. As you move through the job, you see how much progress you’ve made and the adrenaline gets going. You don’t stop for water or food, but just keep pushing. The payoff is so good at the end. Then you pack up the tools and sit down for the first time. Then you don’t get back up again for days because the adrenaline wears off and your spine whimpers in your ear…”Are you mad at me?”

@@Jana-j6d5w in most areas the homeowner maintains the sidewalks , usually if the sidewalks needs repaired or replaced the city works with you but you still pay a big part of it .
Al, you’ve outdone yourself with this one. 10 hours of back wrenching work in over a 100 degree weather. Man that brutal! Amazing transformation for sure.
Hi Al, It is time to find a mini excavator for your tool box. A scape blade would be a plus. Light weight with nylon tracks a plus. So many reasons to have this type of tool at the ready like a back savor! Smile You did a solid for the city or county who should be maintaining the sidewalks and catch basins as well as the homeowner and surrounding community. Thank you for all of your hard work Al!
No matter how cracked that sidewalk is, your work made that section of road safer for pedestrians, those in wheelchairs, parents with strollers, and maybe bicyclists. Accessibility is so important. Great work! 🤩
Exactly. The City I live in doesn't believe in sidewalks I guess. The only sidewalks available are on the Main Street (HWY 66). The sidewalk goes for 1 mile and that's it.
After seeing the sidewalk that was revealed, it's my hope that some city engineer will drive by and see it and say, "Oh my, it's about time we replace that one."
I'm not sure how it works were you live, but were I live that's not even remotely how it would go. Around here it would be like this - Some city engineer will drive by and see it and say, "Oh my. We better send the property owner there a nastygram about the state of their sidewalk and demand that they replace it."
@@ColonelSandersLite Where I live, the engineer will drive by, see it and put it on the list for 5 years down the road, or until some walker trips and falls and sues the city.
In Australia we have an app called snap send solve, can take a photo of an issue (esp if its a hazard which this path now is, was probably safer when it was grass and dirt), it sends the report to the proper council and they deal with it, sometimes it takes a few weeks, but I've had tree roots causing path to stick up, signs ripped out of ground, abandoned cars, reported them and had them all solved.
Al, I’m so sorry about your back. I hope it heals quickly. I also hope the people around there appreciate all your good works. You’re one in a million, my brother. God bless you.
Al, that was definitely a 5 man job. You always do great work. You are so dedicated in all you do. Thank you once again for your HARD work. You deserve a nice massage to relax that tense back. Great job😎💪
Fabulous job!! But I'm saddened that the city hasn't come out and dealt with such a big endeavor with a bobcat or a whole crew of guys!! You Sir deserve a raise or a golden cup or something for that super task. Geez. 😮 Keep your spirits up Al. And get some rest!!! 🎉❤
Al deserves a raise? 🤣😆🤣😆🤣 Al works for himself. His "raise" will be the $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000 he will make off this video (that is my best guess with 1.3 million views).
Pace yourself Al! If that sidewalk has been covered up for over 15 years, then it could have gone on for a few more days. No sidewalk is worth destroying your health to uncover. You might have been able to break it down into a couple more hours (if your schedule allowed). You can’t spread your kindness and generosity if you destroy your back and overall health. Take care and God Bless you!! ❤❤❤
were all very proud of you. to all of u saying he should have paced himself. its very hard to start a job like this and just walk away in the middle. also noone truly knows how difficult the job will be until they actually do it. anything in the construction, mowing, handyman field knows this. you look at something thinking it will take you way less time. then you dont know what youll find underneath. you really never know. and if al is reading this im sure he will agree.
Oh my Al you are such a Blessing to the community and the folks you help. I do worry about you staying hydrated in the heat. Please take care and keep the blessings flowing.
You were one of the first on YT, I saw videos of giving back to the community and mowing lawns(often for free). Now there are like 20 plus channels of bad ass lawn guys doing free lawn care. Not sayin you started the trend, but you participated and may have inspired someone. Well done mate. 👏
That was amazing Al. I'm not surprised your back is sore. When I saw the other side of the road I thought , oh gez don't look over there AL lol! Rest up hope your backs better soon 👍💜
Praying for your full recovery AL, becareful not to hurt yourself while trying to work in this hot weather. Pace yourself. God bless you for that you do for others, and may God continue to strengthen you.
Using the edger to cut it up into chunks was brilliant! Your heruclean effort didn't just unearth a sidewalk; you discovered one of the fabled mosaic sidewalks. God bless, Al!
@@liberty8424 A mosaic is art made up of pieces of glass or another material to create a larger picture or pattern. The grass busted up that sidewalk, so it reminded me of a mosaic. I was just feeling goofy.

Wow man, great job! That was a lot of work and I was impressed with how you stuck with it. I'm glad you took breaks because that heat will get you. I'm a letter carrier and seeing that sidewalk makes me smile because it's easier to walk along on sidewalks than grass. The letter carriers that see this transformation of that route will be very appreciative and I'm sure surprised that there was a sidewalk there, (if they didn't know) of your work and glad that you made their walk much easier to all the properties and mail boxes along there. Thanks again for your dedication and hard work! I'm enjoying several of the helpful, generous lawn care UA-camrs on UA-cam these past few weeks of finding them on here and subscribing to them. You are now one of my new subscriptions! I'm looking forward to watching you and all the others! You all are awesome!
Al, I'm an old man and I've done a very tiny shoveling job (adding new mulch) compared to this gigantic project you undertook. My back was on fire for days. You've done an amazing job and I know it was both satisfying and very painful work for you. I hope you're relaxing; feel better soon!!! Great video transformation!!!
He's silly to put his back at risk with this vigorous work. You know it (me too) but the young don't get it until a disk moves and then your back is done for life. Nice fellow but not good for the body.
At least you could do the mulch that was awesome should be proud of yourself Al's a bit younger I think he does what we used to do in our younger days Maybe he's a bit sore on this job because he worked to fast. All it takes is a neighbour to help a person next door then Al would be out of a job But like the lady commented below He would save his back. That is not necessarily true My husband did his back when the police were practising with handcuffs putting somebody down on the ground and you can do your back by just falling over your back you can do by just carrying too much weight and you can do anything to your body if you don't take care of it it doesn't matter what activity you're doing you just have to try and take The best care of yourself that you can I like to watch Al because it reminds me of what I used to do I used to clean up the footpaths and down the sides from the prickles and everything because they were no houses and then my kids could ride their bikes up and down the footpath and not be attacked by tiger snakes and prickles. I wonder how Al copes with the poisonous spiders and snakes and rats and mice He would have to tend to all of that as well, that's the only part that worries me about Al s health in doing these projects He has got such a high work ethic He must have had great parents and grandparents in my opinion only Yes he does amazing me on the way he does some of the work I wouldn't have thought of it myself very ingenious❤
I often wonder why the owners of the house don't come out and help as well if it's had to do they can still pick up some stuff or some rubbish that would help a lot just do something even bring a drink out to him that would help
Sue Wolfe-That's definitely hard work on your back, AL! I'm glad you're resting now and giving yourself time to heal. Of all the great improvements in tools, no one has come up with something better than a shovel!! Take care and keep hydrated!!👍💪😎🌴❤️
Al, as much as I love watching you transform these properties, I’m just as concerned for your safety! Please, proceed with caution on these hot days. ❤
You would think the city records would indicate there is a sidewalk there!!! But, maybe from the condition of the cement, they were glad it was covered, so they wouldn’t have to replace it….😅

You are an inspiration Al. Communities used to do that at one time. Things change - well some things. It’s awesome that you do so much for communities. Well done.
May benefits come back to you 10-fold for the HUGE effort you expended in addressing the issues in this video. It was amazing to watch the sidewalk slowly come to see the light of day, and SO great that you seeded the lawn area between the sidewalk and the street!! The uncovering of the sidewalk also shows how strong plants are because of how they have broken up the sidewalk over time . . .
I like that by extrapolation and testing you figured out that a sidewalk continuation existed. When you did edging, the recovered sidewalk began to seamlessly fit right back in. Your innovation, of cutting sod into squares with the edger was a good one. Nice thought to even-out the moved dirt and turf and to carry on recovery of the far side of the sidewalk. Extra plus, thinking of reseeding the side strip. That was a big change for the neighborhood, with a big expanse of connected sidewalk for all to walk on.
You continue to inspire. I helped an older Veteran fix his flag pole in his front yard after it was damaged in a storm. Felt good to accept a handshake as payment.
Al, that was awesome what you did to that sidewalk. I hope they appreciate what you did for them. Take care of your back and I'll be praying for you. Awesome video.

Great job and a lot of hard work! We moved into an old house years ago that didn't appear to have a sidewalk in front of it although there was a sidewalk in front of a couple of houses on the block. Looked a lot like what you worked on. I decided to edge the yard the first time I mowed and realized there was concrete under the grass. I spent most of a day doing what you did. It was hard work, but worth it. The neighbors saw what I did and realized they had a sidewalk, too. By the end of the summer, everyone on our side of the street had exposed their sidewalks. None of them knew the sidewalks existed because they weren't the original owners of the houses. Most assumed the city didn't put sidewalks the full length of the block. Always curious when I don't see a sidewalk in front of an older home if there is something under the grass
Hi Al, I love what you do and why you do it. I too get a relaxing, calming effect from extreme yard work. Yard work was a chore I had to do weekly growing up and totally enjoy it. A few years ago I moved from California to Missouri to help out an ailing friend living on a fixed income. Upkeep of her home was becoming impossible to afford .so it was an easy choice to donate my skills and what materials I had, for her needs. The first thing after my three day drive was to get the yard in order. After a New Years eve ice storm and a witch next door complaining to the city about a tree limb in the yard, Code enforcement put up a notice out in front the fell down. When looking into why the sign kept falling down, I found a beautiful red brick sidewalk that matched the red brick walkway up to the house. My friend had bought the home in 2006 and never knew that under 2-4 inches of grass and dirt was this beautiful red brick sidewalk in front of her home, but not just her home, it went all the way down the street. I did not tell her of it until after I had cleared it and let me tell you, she about had a heart attach when I surprised her with it....keep up your great work. We need more like you.
When I was a kid in St. Louis we would soak the brick walk with a hose so we could pull all the weeds and grass from between the bricks on our brick sidewalk in the back yard, hard work but satisfying.
Great that you're making properties and cities and towns look so much better!! Your videos are addictive and I just found you recently!! Maybe the city will put in a new sidewalk now.
OMGOODNESS! I feel for you! It looks great, but your health is more important than a sidewalk that’s been covered for years! Don’t over do! A mother talking to you like she would her own sons!😊❤

What😠😡???? R U crazy? He's doing this free!!! He's not their on going Landscaper. Take into consideration the area, the labor intensive energy, and the manual position and the heat factors. Oh, and let not take into the fact that Al is doing it by himself along with the facts what he has invested for these, lazy, "don't give a damn" residents🤬🤬🤬!
Why doesn’t the City look after that?????😡
@@Jana-j6d5w in most areas the homeowner maintains the sidewalks , usually if the sidewalks needs repaired or replaced the city works with you but you still pay a big part of it .
Al, you’ve outdone yourself with this one. 10 hours of back wrenching work in over a 100 degree weather. Man that brutal! Amazing transformation for sure.
Hi Al,
It is time to find a mini excavator for your tool box.
Great work! 🤩
With bigger jobs like that it's OK to have extra help to work together or tag team .
With bigger jobs like that it's OK to have extra help to work together or tag team .
And the .. kids that still ride bikes.. like the 80s
😂
I'm not sure how it works were you live, but were I live that's not even remotely how it would go. Around here it would be like this -
Some city engineer will drive by and see it and say, "Oh my. We better send the property owner there a nastygram about the state of their sidewalk and demand that they replace it."
@@ColonelSandersLite Where I live, the engineer will drive by, see it and put it on the list for 5 years down the road, or until some walker trips and falls and sues the city.
Pffffff, they’d charge the homeowner to replace it.
Spoken from a tender, caring heart ❤️🌹🙏. I agree 👍.
Great work Al. But the city aloud that for over a decade? Crazy.
Yes this was a hard one poor AL hurting his body

Al, that was definitely a 5 man job. You always do great work. You are so dedicated in all you do. Thank you once again for your HARD work. You deserve a nice massage to relax that tense back. Great job😎💪
Al needs a partner on the grass-removing, shovel parts!
Would digging up down to the sidewalk be easier if it were soaked?
@@TreasureSwanson would be heavier.
@@TreasureSwanson Probably not. The dirt looks a little bit sandy/loamy. If wet it would be a lot heavier.
😅
Pace yourself Al! If that sidewalk has been covered up for over 15 years, then it could have gone on for a few more days. No sidewalk is worth destroying your health to uncover. You might have been able to break it down into a couple more hours (if your schedule allowed). You can’t spread your kindness and generosity if you destroy your back and overall health. were all very proud of you. to all of u saying he should have paced himself. its very hard to start a job like this and just walk away in the middle. also noone truly knows how difficult the job will be until they actually do it. anything in the construction, mowing, handyman field knows this. you look at something thinking it will take you way less time. then you dont know what youll find underneath. you really never know. and if al is reading this im sure he will agree.
Al, this took sheer willpower and Mind over Matter! You uncovered 20 years of dirt on that sidewalk! Please take care, GM
I don't know of any single man who could do this in one day. Your generous heart and back-breaking labor is incredible.

Using the edger to cut it up into chunks was brilliant! Your heruclean effort didn't just unearth a sidewalk; you discovered one of the fabled mosaic sidewalks. God bless, Al!
Mosaic sidewalk?? Plz explain??
Maybe it’s Byzantine?😂
@@liberty8424 A mosaic is art made up of pieces of glass or another material to create a larger picture or pattern. The grass busted up that sidewalk, so it reminded me of a mosaic. I was just feeling goofy.
@@TheEdumicator I do know what a mosaic is. I read what you wrote when Al first started digging it up. I thought maybe some areas of that city had somehow made mosaic sidewalks. I watched another chanel yesterday, Kevin's, & he was in a town that had red brick laid streets!! In a herringbone pattern! It was awesome!

This is such a lovely thing to say.
I love these archeological digs. Maybe the reason it was covered was the poor condition of the sidewalk. It is interesting to note that the grass grew better on the sidewalk than the sandy soil of the parkway where people ended up walking by default. Please contact the city to let them know that this is a tripping hazard. They may not do anything but you will have told them. 😊
I was thinking that, the last owners the sold the house put a truck of soil and planted grass, for not fising the side walk. 😂
The overgrown condition led to the cracking of cement sidewalk
I was thinking the same thing. Isn't the concrete a tripping hazard now? Is it the city's responsibility to repair it?

The letter carriers that see this transformation of that route will be very appreciative and I'm sure surprised that there was a sidewalk there, (if they didn't know) of your work and glad that you made their walk much easier to all the properties and mail boxes along there. Maybe he's a bit sore on this job because he worked to fast.
All it takes is a neighbour to help a person next door then Al would be out of a job
But like the lady commented below He would save his back.
That is not necessarily true My husband did his back when the police were practising with handcuffs putting somebody down on the ground and you can do your back by just falling over your back you can do by just carrying too much weight and you can do anything to your body if you don't take care of it it doesn't matter what activity you're doing you just have to try and take

I like to watch Al because it reminds me of what I used to do I used to clean up the footpaths and down the sides from the prickles and everything because they were no houses and then my kids could ride their bikes up and down the footpath and not be attacked by tiger snakes and prickles.
I wonder how Al copes with the poisonous spiders and snakes and rats and mice
He would have to tend to all of that as well, that's the only part that worries me about Al s health in doing these projects
He has got such a high work ethic He must have had great parents and grandparents in my opinion only
Yes he does amazing me on the way he does some of the work I wouldn't have thought of it myself very ingenious❤
Wouldn't it be great if somebody could invent a machine just to slice the dirt off the concrete
Looks like the council should come in and fix a footpath looks all cracked
I often wonder why the owners of the house don't come out and help as well if it's had to do they can still pick up some stuff or some rubbish that would help a lot just do something even bring a drink out to him that would help

May benefits come back to you 10-fold for the HUGE effort you expended in addressing the issues in this video. It was amazing to watch the sidewalk slowly come to see the light of day, and SO great that you seeded the lawn area between the sidewalk and the street!!
The uncovering of the sidewalk also shows how strong plants are because of how they have broken up the sidewalk over time . . .
I would be doing a sidewalk square at a time. But, not the entire thing.

Brutal task you took on. We need to create a tool/machine that will work on overgrown grass on concrete. My back hurts just watching you do this.

I thank you for the service you are doing. Yes it's very important. You need to take care of yourself.

Wow. That sidewalk just kept going! Just when I thought you were done, you pulled the camera back and more was exposed! Great job. Nice that you seeded too. Take care of yourself and don't over do it!
You are freaking awesome I'm going to love this one I usually don't leave comments before I watch it but this looks awesome.
Thanks again for all you do
Watching and hearing you work is like ASMR. It has a soothing factor and even brings nostalgia 🥰
What does ASMR mean? Is it autonomous sensory meridian response?

Great job Al! We need more people like you in our communities to show others just how nice their yards and walkways can be! 👍
It’s amazing what one person can do with just a shovel and determination.
This does show that one person Can make a difference!
€€€€ There’s only one thing WORSE than not getting a new video to watch on your channel: not having you able to work and be active for your family due to OVERWORKING yourself, Al! We love you and want you to be wise with your physical health.
I’m always in awe of your work ethic, how hard you work when others can’t or won’t. Your dedication tells me so much about your upbringing. You must have great role models. I love what you do!
That's just too much work on one man Al!!!!
If you were my brother/husband,, I wouldn't let you do it.
It takes a toll on the human body. None of us are getting younger.
I hope you stay safe and hydrated during these hot months you are a blessing to many people Al💕💕🙏🏿🙏🏿
Al, great big hugs for your work ethics.Just remember your family is important too. They need you also. Bless you!
Hey AL! Paying it forward is the BEST feeling! I hope your back is feeling better! That job of cleaning up all the grass and dirt over that sidewalk was a "back breaker". That whole area looked AWESOME after you finished! Until your next video ~~~Stay safe, healthy and happy! 🌴🪴🌴
Wow, that was a hard day’s work. Can’t imagine doing that in that hot weather! Using that edger was a great idea to cut that up! Bet that mail carrier will be surprised!😂
So sorry about your back; you deserve a big rest!
Al you are an amazing person! So kind, thoughtful, and hard working. I sure hope you keep hydrated while you are working so hard. Take care of you buddy!
Well Al , You Did a SUPERB JOB on the sidewalk . Now all you have to do is level all the dirt and plant grass seed !!
Al, I've never seen anyone work like you do. You are amazing!! Great job.
This was a CRAZY transformation! And such hard work. This spring I found a brick pathway under my back lawn at the home that I just purchased this year. Crazy how resilient nature is. Love your videos Al!
Amazing as always. Thank goodness for whatever inspires you. Feel better.
Amazing 👏 transformation. You are the best. Always thinking of others.
Hopefully, the city comes in and sees the transformation and replaces the sidewalk with new concrete. It will be safer for the neighbors to walk on.
