He's in shorts, and not much else, because this was song #21 out of 26 on the concert video it's taken from...first song of the encore. Want to see an awesome show? Watch the whole Queen Rock Montreal show.
That beginning riff is one of those that is instantly recognizable in the rock world. BTW this was covered so hilariously by Weird Al. One thing about Freddie, he didn't care what anyone thought of his clothing or lack thereof. LOL Besides, it's his voice people came to see...errr or hear rather. lol
The riff is actually from CHIC'S disco funk hit "Good Times". Bernard Edwards mastered that riff and Nile Rodgers wrote the song. That song was also used by Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers' Delight."
The story behind the outfit (or lack of it)...Queen played two nights in Montreal....the production company wanted them to wear the same clothes on both nights...they wanted to combine the two shows for a video....Queen said “no way, we’ll wear what we like”....you see the result....one person on UA-cam said, “my guy’s a lifeguard and he might go swimming later”.....so very Freddie....doing it his way...an absolute legend🤩

That bass makes this song. Actually, all parts came together perfectly to make this song the hit that it was/is. I think during LiveAid, Freddie was really sick. That may have been the difference in the two performances.
Freddie had a throat issue and he was told by his doctor not to sing but in true Freddie fashion he ignored the doctor and went on and the Live Aid performance was born
💥 The fun fact about those shorts Freddie is wearing was that he was annoyed with the film production & security for telling the audience to behave during filming. It was a two-night concert so Freddie wore the shorts to break continuity with the filming cuz they were going to edit both nights together. Basically, Freddie F’d with the production! Also heard that the audience volume was turned down, too so it appears that the crowd is more quiet … not true for those who were there!! There’s a moment in the concert where Freddie tells the audience that “it’s okay to move your arses around”. 🤣🤣 I like the shorts!! 🥰

@@jimilove7773 That's a good deal. I saw Heart in 1977, Styx in1978 & Southside Johnny in 1983 in Convention Hall on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jesey. It's a really small arena around 2,500-3,000 seats. In fact the night I saw heart was the day Elvis died, they dedicated the last song of the encore to him. It was Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll. The Queen show at the Garden was featured in the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" when the hit the US big time. Brian said in an interview that his father would've rather he continued his education instead of playing music. He invited his parents to New York, flew them over on the Concorde, for those MSG shows, the bands first time there, and his dad said "Okay, now I get it" in response to the way the audience reacted to the band.

Freddie had a throat issue and he was told by his doctor not to sing but in true Freddie fashion he ignored the doctor and went on and the Live Aid performance was born
They didn’t play this number during their Live Aid set.
@@jazzlefettie You're right, Jazzle. This one was not part of Live Aid
Only Freddie can get away it. . Queen are themselves.
The short shorts and he was barefooted....Freddie was feeling himself. And yes, that bass line was EVERYTHING. I wish I could've been there.
I remember when The Junkyard Dog came out to this song. The dome in New Orleans shook!!!
This is so good. I can't get over the variety of music that was created between 75 and 95. Crazy time to grow up. I love your reactions brother.
Hey Jamel, I just want to let you know that I'm slogging through heartbreak and a deep depression right now and your vids really help me to feel a bit better. Thanks for your energy and dedication.
matt vargas - his videos have pulled me through lockdowns. Hope the path ahead clears for you soon. Please be sure you reach out for help. People care.
@@CHCLA6779 thank you for your kind words. It's dark now, certainly, but I have some small hope.
@@61fsanimal hang in there! Much love and good wishes from Australia ❤️🇦🇺
@@JudeAussie thanks Judy, I really do appreciate that
@@61fsanimal you’re welcome! 🙂❤️
This is from Queen rocks Montreal....possibly their best live dvd! You should review ''Somebody to love'', from this dvd..it is the best version of that song! Thanks for your channel!///// Saw this tour a week before this show in NY....right down front, got Freddies' towel! One of the besst shows I have ever seen if not the best! The energy was amazing!
@jl5777
Here you go. I think it was Jamel's 1st Queen reaction and (& a great one!)...

This concert was recorded over a couple of nights in November 1981. They played Montreal in August of 1980 the first time. They were in New York at the Garden in September on the 28th, 29th & 30th. I saw them there on the 28th.
@@deborahcornell171 Thanks!
@@vernhoke7730 Yes but I saw them in Glens Falls NY in a little 6,000 seater upstate....camped out for tickets.....Correction / my show was Sep 23, 1980. Thanks!
He invited his parents to New York, flew them over on the Concorde, for those MSG shows, the bands first time there, and his dad said "Okay, now I get it" in response to the way the audience reacted to the band.
reminds me of the roller rink in elementary school 🙌 when my daughter was about 5 she went through a phase of requesting her dad to play this time every time she got in his truck 😍 so cute singing along😍 cherished memories = this song🙏🦋🌈🌞🌻💜
Yes! We would stomp our skates to the bass line. This song always reminds me of roller rinks in the early 80's 🙂🛼
Greatest front man in Rock history!
I saw them on "The Hot Space Tour" in 1982 in Norway. It was the best I have ever seen live!
This music was used for both Good Times and Rapper's Delight. One Queen song made three timeless classics!
Good Times was actually the inspiration for Another One Bites The Dust.
Love watching him dance.
Only Freddie could pull off short shorts, no shoes, neckerchief and baseball cap.......and he does it beautifully!!
Freddie can get down! Funk and soul. Love your reaction to this song, your shoulders had me moving mine too. ❤️😁😎
🤔🤔🤔 Greatest crossover ever!!!! Funk/Disco fell in love with it and everyone in between. Give “ Innuendo “ a chance, it’s IMHO such an underrated fantastic Queen song that deserves to be reviewed. Cheers 🥂
You always make my day Jamel! Thank you! I grew up with Queen. Such a tragic loss yet again in the music world. Freddy also was a cat lover and I just personally view cat lovers as special people🐱🥰. THIS song, even now, I crank up the radio in the car when it is on! RIP Freddy💕
I love your reaction. Freddie was one of a kind for sure. Sadly, lots of people only appreciate him now that he is gone. Love your reactions, Jamel.
I’ve been a Queen and Freddie Mercury fan since the early ‘70’s and I am glad that people who weren’t even around back then are appreciating Queen and Freddie now. That’s the enjoyable thing about art-it can be appreciated by anyone at any time. I think Queen’s music will continue to be loved long after those of us who have been their fans since the beginning are long gone.
Energetic intensity from both Freddy and Jamel ❤❤❤👍👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🙃🙃🙃❤❤❤
Queen!! This song reminds me of my mom. She loved it!! Thanks for reacting to this one! 👌💕
Best concert I ever saw: Billy Squier opened for Queen - August 13, 1982 - Poplar Creek Music Theatre, Hoffman Estates, IL - gone but not forgotten
All of their performances are amazing. Wish I could have seen them with Freddie! Glad I got to see them with Adam Lambert though. No, he’s not Freddie but, as long as Brian & Roger are alive & kicking it will still feel like a Queen concert to me! Thank you for this reaction video Jamel. ❤️🤘
Another brilliant song from Queen 👑
For me this is their best song, I’m sure some will say they have more technically impressive ones etc, but I don’t give a sh*t lol it’s funky af
It was their biggest seller by far.
Some of their best selling songs were not their more complicated ones. There’s probably a lesson in that somewhere. :)
@@jazzlefettie oh yeah, many artists say there more basic, less time consuming songs to make are the ones that make the hits
Don't forget the basketball uniforms of the 70's and early 80's were pretty short too
When you went to see them they’re always on point with there music and lyrics. Then you have the rest of the iconic band. R.I.P Freddie Mercury
Yesssss!💃💃💃. R.I.P. Freddy Mercury 💝🙌🏻
You said it, amazing performance! Thank you for posting!
I'm enjoying all these classic rock reactions!
If you don't love Queen and Freddie Mercury, you're a monster
