The first time Freddie Mercury sang with Smile, Brian and Roger’s band, he couldn’t get the mic to come off the stand so he took it apart in the middle and it became his trademark. 💖
Sailor Dave - At least Deaky, the "quiet old English gentleman" did use his honors electrical engineering degree long enough to invent Brian's Deacy amp. He deserves to enjoy his life now. That was what he wanted. I'm happy for him. Did you know the Royal Mail issued a set of stamps featuring Queen? Only The Beatles and Pink Floyd received that honor.
Deaky has, adorably, been married to his wife since 1975. They have six kids, and he wrote "You're My Best Friend" for her. He's a brilliant electrician, and built equipment for the band including an amp of his own invention. Brian May is a dedicated fox-and-badger conservationist, and released a version of the "Badger Badger Badger" meme song to protest badger culling. Roger Taylor has a wonderful old man beard, and his son is the drummer for The Darkness and Queen + Adam Lambert. Brilliant men all, as was Freddie.
Lesley Grossblatt - Sadly, like Mercury, he flew too close to the sun and his wild ways led to his untimely death but he lived more in his 46 years than most people would in 100. A legend.
“This man is too comfortable. He’s half naked on stage...” I was thinking the same thing! And u have to be confident and comfortable with those shorts, then throw in that prance!!! YAS!!!!! Takes real balls to rock it like that!!!!
Freddie broke the mike stand early on, and liked the way it let him bring a mikestand with him everywhere, and have something to do with his hands.... he also gets a bit ... "naughty" with it in live concerts.

The story goes that Michael Jackson (who was a huge Queen fan) persuaded Queen to pick this album song as a single. And it shot up to #1, not only in the single charts all around the world, but also in several black music Billboard charts.
I’m black and I still blast it. I remember I use to listen to the radio every morning while getting ready for school. This played on the soul radio station I was listening to and I went crazy. I was shocked to find out later it was a white group!!!

Also possibly the single most talented male vocalist of all time, and I guess when you're that good, you get the right to go onstage in your underwear because at that point clearly the world has stopped making any sense, I guess? lol
Love watching your reactions to Queen songs. There's a long list of iconic Queen songs - Radio GaGa, Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love, We Are the Champions, Under Pressure, Hammer to Fall, The Show Must Go On and These are the days of our Lives to name a few.
Freddie was the best front man EVER! John Deacon, the bass player wrote the song. Incredibly talented band. (Brian on lead guitar is an astrophysicist!)
The thing with Queen is that they can all write, the bass player John Deacon wrote this. Queen is the only band where all members wrote a number 1 song
Hearing this always makes me smile! When Freddie was dying, all the radio stations had a Queen CD ready to put in and, without choosing a track, just hit play. A DJ at Radio City in Liverpool, I can’t remember his name, was the one to play the disc after the announcement, I bet you can guess what’s coming...he put the disc in, pressed play and up came this one, I know Freddie would have laughed so hard 😂🤣
Your appreciation of Queen is so authentic and beautiful, it warms my heart. I have spent the entire weekend watching your channel. Thank you for sharing your joy!!!
When Freddie Mercury first started with Queen he broke the microphone when trying to take the microphone of the stand, he has always used this broken microphone ever since......❤

Music does transcend through all races; however being honest, sometimes races are not as familiar with certain genres. I am about to start listening to Latin American music for first time, and I'm no spring chicken. None of my family or friends ever listened to it. I think based on race their could be barriers, and I think that is what he is referring to.

Totally epic! The one downside regarding the Montreal concert is that everyone knew it was going to be taped and the audience was told to behave, something that Queen didn't want. Their concerts are all about the audiences responding, singing along and participating. Lesson learned-when Queen tells you to sing along, do it! His mic stand broke during a performance early in his career and he was left with the top half of the stand and he liked being able to carry it around on stage like that, it gave him more freedom to perform.
Roger Taylor, the drummer, is who you hear backing him up on the chorus vocals. Roger has a great voice, as does the lead guitarist, Brian May. If you haven't seen the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's required viewing! You'll love it!
Since you love Queen and Freddie so much, I think you'll probably also appreciate David Bowie. Maybe start with Under Pressure, which features both Freddie and David.
Love the look!!! You're priceless. John " Deaky" Deacon, the bass player wrote this. I'm sure someone has already filled you in, but he had problems with a mic stand and just whipped off the base and sang with the mic and the boom. Became his trademark. Me again. Lol. This was a 2day concert in Montreal and producers told the band they had to wear the same outfit both nights for editing. Well, everyone knows you don't tell Freddie how to stage a performance. So the second night was stripped down to short shorts and talent busting out the seams!
Did you know Freddie was born in Africa? Specifically, Zanzibar, a large island off the coast of Tanzania, in the Indian Ocean. At the time(1946) it was a British protectorate & his parents were raised in India & moved to Zanzibar to work for the British government. When he was 17 there was a violent revolution & they fled to England. His family had long lived in India, belonging to an ethnic / religious group called Zoroastrians, who originated in Persia( Iran) & moved to India over a thousand years ago when the Arabs took over. In India they're known as parsees, which means Persians. This history probably explains why he always felt like an outsider or misfit. In Engla nd he didn't really fit in . He was 18 , started college & started assimilating. Music was the key. He'd been at an English style boarding school from the age of 8, took piano lessons for years& joined his first band at 12. They covered American rock & roll, Elvis, Little Richard , Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, etc. The music exec's in England thought his ethnicity might not be accepted, so they tried to whitewash him. One reason he was so loyal to his bandmates was that they didn't care@ his ethnicity or sexuality, but accepted him as he was. One thing I hear frequently when they talk @ him is : That's just Freddie.
Did he just say back in the old days lmao! Man I feel like a dinasour now lol. Love your reactions. Keep them up. When you get a chance can you please react to some more Aerosmith and Poison- Something to believe in (music video)
"Everybody know that song.....even I know the lyrics to that song, bro......and I'm.....I'm black" Lol. Good for you! Now I'm hooked to your channel and yes, I subscribed!
Legend has it, Freddie struggled with a mic stand early in their career and broke it off. He decided it was a perfect prop and just always used a half mic stand. You’ll see him punching alot. He was a boxer in school. He IS the 🐐 man.
@@howiedavis2316 Another lesser known fact, Freddie Mercury was MARRIED for a short time to his best friend. They divorced when he came out but remained the best of friends. She was also his confidant. If I'm not mistaken, he left her a small fortune upon passing. Still miss him.
@@howiedavis2316 Her name is Mary Austin. She was the love of Freddie's life and even to his death, he proclaimed his undying love for her, but he was gay and she understood, never making any judgement. I looked it up and come to find out, Freddie left his mansion to her that she lives in to this day. Only last year, she finally removed the tribute to Freddie. He left her 50% of his fortune, including royalties, money, interest in anything Queen-related that he had a claim. He left the balance split with his mother, sister and whatever charities he donated. Upon their death, their share reverted to Mary.

Love that yall listen to all the lives, so real
His mic stand broke during a performance early in his career and he was left with the top half of the stand and he liked being able to carry it around on stage like that, it gave him more freedom to perform.
1970s and 80s. The man was a miracle. We all loved him. And the mic was one he had made for HIM. Cool.
Roger Taylor, the drummer, is who you hear backing him up on the chorus vocals. Roger has a great voice, as does the lead guitarist, Brian May. If you haven't seen the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's required viewing! You'll love it!
I can feel my roller skates going side to side dancing to this song
Since you love Queen and Freddie so much, I think you'll probably also appreciate David Bowie. Maybe start with Under Pressure, which features both Freddie and David.
I always say this is the funkiest rock song ever made! He was in a class all his own.
"Another Queen..." Truer words were never spoken.
Freddie broke his microphone stand on his first gig and discovered a great stage prop. He always performed with a broken microphone stand
"This man is too comfortable, he half naked on stage" 😂😂😂 so funny. Love these videos, literally lost hours this week watching Twins the new trend.
Freddie was such an amazing talent, lost way too soon.
Lol. That look on your face at the onset of your listening. Priceless. Queen...amazing band.
"Everybody know that song.....even I know the lyrics to that song, bro......and I'm.....I'm black" Lol. Good for you! Now I'm hooked to your channel and yes, I subscribed!
I LOVE how much you love Freddie! ❤❤❤
Legend has it, Freddie struggled with a mic stand early in their career and broke it off. He decided it was a perfect prop and just always used a half mic stand. You’ll see him punching alot. He was a boxer in school. He IS the 🐐 man.
I knew a lot about Queen and Freddy, but I did not know he boxed. Thank you for a new piece of knowledge .
@@howiedavis2316 Another lesser known fact, Freddie Mercury was MARRIED for a short time to his best friend. They divorced when he came out but remained the best of friends.
She was also his confidant. If I'm not mistaken, he left her a small fortune upon passing. Still miss him.
@@gailmcgough4079 thank you, i think i remember her portrayed in the movie, but i never knew they got married.
@@gailmcgough4079 you know your Queen and Freddy , nice
I felt the same way last year when I discovered Queen sung 🎵 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'
Michael Jackson was a fan, came to several shows and encouraged them to release it as a single. It was on several different charts for weeks
I have never heard a 'scat' as pure as what Freddie let's loose in this song. Rest in Peace Mr. Mercury, you ARE the Master.
You should try listening to the late Ms Ella Fitzgerald and so many others “scat”
@@t.morrison4400 I am a piano major/voice minor from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania School of Music. I am intimately aware and accomplished in every form of music as well as musicians and styles through out the ages: classical, jazz, rock, rap, hip hop, theater, country, pop, etc. Perhaps you will be less judgemental if I would have prefaced my comment, and tribute to the late Freddie Mercury with: "In my opinion".
The mic is his signature. He broke a mic stand early on and just kept it.
Sometimes my only regret..is I didn't get the opportunity to take young folk like you to one of their concerts......you would have to get them in concert online...you 're in love with Queen!!!
I love your reaction to the guy's camera, but this was before mobile phones and digital photography. I'm someone who remembers those cameras, and the fact that they were considered compact at the time.
Queen out did all rock groups and they are legend. During that time even black station played their music. That’s how bad ass they were. RIP Freddie a true legend gone too soon
