SV650. Bought a 2000 SV650 with 17k miles for $1800. Still ripping it around a year and a half later,
Solid suggestions. I got a ‘94 Honda VT600 for just under $2k a few years ago as my first bike with 14k original miles on it. Very dependable bike and I still have it.
Few years back I got a Suzuki vx800 for $800. It had 14k miles on it and once I went thru the carbs and got a new battery it was awesome. Still wish I never sold it
I can confirm that Kawasaki Z300 is a very good bike. My ex has it. This 296 cc parallel twin engine is good.

My fave on the list is the Kawasaki Vulcan 500-great bike! It has the same, bulletproof 500 parallel twin that the Ninja 500 has.

I Bought a 92 CB 750 off an old man for 900 out in the outskirts of olmsted falls. He still asks about it cause it belonged to a deceased friend of his and had a matching bike. Got the title changed over in elyria in the summer and trying to repair and mod it now for next summer after I get my license back (should be childs play this time). Can't wait for it.

First, Cycle Trader is not the first or only place to look. I got 2 bikes off Craigslist. Second, I can highly recommend the 4th gen Honda VFR750 and 5th gen Honda VFR800. Sport Touring bike that’s an all-arounder and very, very reliable due to the gear driven cams. Bought the ‘94 750 for $2300 (new carbs) and a ‘99 800 for $1900! These bikes can go over 300k miles with very little maintenance 👍
I bought my current bike off Craigslist too. But you have to be careful, lots of scammers on that site.
Hyosung motorcycles are actually really good bikes. I had a Hyosung scooter for 6 years and I put 12k miles on it. I sold it for $1000 bucks, and I actually really miss it.

A honorable mention should go to used Honda Rebel 250s. I’ve found good condition models from $1800-3000.

Honda Hornet 600 and 919 are around that price, near 100hp. Older Suzuki Bandit 1200 are another one . Lots of cruisers from Suzuki C50 Boulevard to Honda Shadow just like the Kawasaki Vulcan he mentioned. Honda rebel can be had from 250cc to 500cc cheap. Suzuki SV650 1st gen as well. I had a 2012 CBR250r like CycleCruza's first bike that cost me 1900.
919 are about 4-5k now.
You must have lower prices than any region near me. Not much at $2K or less is anything you'd want in this area. $3K is more like it. Even an old GS500 is $2500 in a private sale, as are Virago 250s, etc. $3500 is a better target, which is where I found my SV650.
Motorcycles in America are toys. They have fairly low resale value in general and you can find lots of low mileage ones so used is definitely the way to go!
That's why its best to get used but I will tell you that with inflation hitting hard now and motorcycle being in high demand now, used bikes have gone up much higher.

The Kawasaki Vulcan 500 is the only one I would even consider, the rest are all crotch rockets, and i don't do crotch rockets. But that bike is being sold by a dealer, so you can expect to pay close to $1000 over that price for it in dealer fees. Dealers in my state charge almost $400 just in doc fees. Then in my state there would be 10% sales tax, plus a couple hundred for title and registration. Then the dealer is likely to add "reconditioning fees" like new tires or a new chain, etc. That's a new thing dealers in my area have started doing. They take the bike in as a trade, giving the person that traded it in almost nothing, then charge the buyer for everything they need to put into it to make it roadworthy. That leaves things wide open for them to put all kinds of new stuff on it, and charge for it same as if they had put that stuff on a customers bike. Maybe it didn't need all that stuff, but how do you prove it. NEVER EVER buy a used bike from a dealer, an auction, or anywhere but from a private seller. I have 6 bikes so I'm not in the market at the moment

All of these bikes are carbureted, all are registered and insured, and all run great.
Not a single one of them is a crotch rocket or high performance bike.
But they sure are fun. I have done 2 Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000s on the Vulcan 750.

I had one for my first bike loved it, was an 03. I was use to dirt bikes and atvs, but my block was cracked when i got it got new engine and it leaked oil too so had to get rid of it, still was plenty fast never went past 150 but kids are my priority.

Hyosung, those guys used to be in Kampala they ( I think ) they left around the time I started riding I remember looking All over the city because I wanted theirs to be my first bike but there it is, sad story but Cruza the Chinese also make some good bikes, I am in the process of selling my 200cC and if all goes well I will have another or two by the end of next year. Indians make good bikes too but they ain't trying to put their best foot in Africa.
Ik it sounds dumb but Can you buy these bikes online and have em delivered to ya?
I did mine over the phone and had it delivered. I live in Maryland and someone from the dealer drove it to me on the back of a pickup. Cost me $300, but it was worth it.
That’s not dumb, just risky. I bought an SUV from an out-of-state dealership that I found online and had it delivered. CycleCruza’s done some vids on buying/selling and shipping bikes. Just do your homework before you commit.

I had a 2006 hysung gt 650 and less then 9,500 miles and blew 2nd,3rd,and 4 gear not even I throttle I loved that bike but never again I'll stick with Japan sport bikes

Hyosung only made bikes using designs that Suzuki created.. but its not the same as making Suzuki bikes.. my guess is Suzuki sold them designs they weren't interested in making themselves.. either way if Suzuki made them they would be far superior than what hyosung could make.. that goes the same if hyosung used any other Japanese motorcycle designs

The guy in my town is literally emptying out his garage and in it is a 2003 Harley-Davidson 883 for 1000 bucks plus or minus a few bucket of parts
