CIG's videos, especially the Inside Star Citizen ones, are some of the most educative and eye-opening game development-related content I have ever seen. I adore them and would watch every single one of them if I had the time.

Polaris is a torpedo boat. Think attack submarine. It's a capital ship killer. Carries size 10 torps but don't remember the how many.

I know you kinda were at the IAE event though I'm curious have you ever seen the Whitley's guide vids that they would do? they are like a minute long but they did one for each day of the event.

the first part of this ISC was waaaaaaay over my head. I didn't understand anything they were saying lol. I'll admit it, I'm pretty dumb on this technical stuff. but seeing the Polaris at the end was really cool. thanks for the videos and welcome to the verse!! hope you are having fun.

every question you had about will this or that be a thing in SC, the answer is usually "YES! it's coming". the escape pods will eventually work, the crew will have to physically service components and do other stuff around the ship like eat, drink, shower, etc. therefore there will be no need for a boredom meter. anyway, interesting perspective and welcome to The 'Verse O7

They have a weekly show like this every Thursday talking about different things and upcoming patches sans a break each quarter. On Fridays they have a different team of devs each week talk about their work or demo how they make the game with their tools for an hour and answer questions on twitch. SC is a unique project. The players voted for the insane feature list and are the venture capital that took 7 people who had nothing and built a company and rebuilt crytek lumberyard engine and its tools for 64bit addressing to do what we see today. It's about to get gen12 renderer and future Vulkan support to keep up to date graphics in the future. They are pretty open about things on the PU side, but the boss is paranoid superstitious about spoilers for the story game and its trickle of info grates on some backers nerves.
The Polaris is a sweet ship that I sponsored. It was actually made because in the beginning they were not good at estimating ship sizes in concept and they often grew in size once they built them to fit the intended interiors. The Idris was supposed to be the small 155-165 meter capital ship but ended up closer to 250m so the Polaris is the fast attack torp boat. They now build ships from the inside out in 3dsmax rough models like we saw on this show before announcing their concepted size. In SC the weapons and most anything in a ship is fully animated and working as close as feasible. In the model all the labels are notes for the artists to know where everything is and what texture libraries or guide sketches to follow. They use that concept model as a guide to build a new clean white box model that becomes the in-game asset eventually. Check out the ISC ship dev talk to hear how the process works in a candid format.
    Enjoy the 'verse.
