During my research for this video I ran across the channel "Dequitem" (link in description).
I highly recommend you check them out for their incredibly realistic fights and informative tutorials if you are interested in this stuff irl.
Thank you for your time, hope you have a wonderful day/night :)

Thanks for call me under your video. Your VR fights are very cool. Your accuracy in stabbing the gabs is very nice. I like most techniques very much. Only the strikes with the mace to the torso and weapons are a little bit ineffective, but strikes to the head and waist are very effective. All in all very cool stuff. I like it!

    - using a rondel dagger
    - at 0:45 halfswording to try and hit the gap in the armor and
    - grabbing the sword by the blade to use like a mace
to my knowledge are all accurate techniques when it comes to fighting in plate armor, so props to you for including that in your video! It was really cool to see.

Good reference for DMs that want to describe "misses" against characters with high AC. A lot of those hits probably connect, but just bounce off the armor or are deflected off. Sure to make the fighters and paladins glad they shelled out hundreds of gold pieces for heavy armor when they shrug off hits that would've killed them before!

That's pretty much what I imagined *miss* meant for heavy armoured character

    • @JohncOnTheAxe
      @JohncOnTheAxe 18 днів тому

@@interestingameplay yes and , I would personally go a bit further in a homebrew rpg have a number to connect period and another number to hit where the armor isn't. the first number can represent the characters ability to doge and parry and the second number can represent how much of the body is covered by the armor. Next assign a certain damage reduction for all sets of armor .finally give certain weapons like hammer and mace type things advantage on the damage roll against heavy armor and bladed weapons advantage on the damage roll to light armor or no armor.

Even took a few nasty hits from blunt weapons and staggered in appropriate fashion to really sell the effect that this was a real fight.
And of course, the oh so satisfying ducking and weaving and treating the plate armor as actual armor, effortlessly taking slashing hits no problem and exploiting the smallest of gaps in the armor with piercing attacks.
The cherry on top? The little hand waggle for the ineffectual punch that'd serve only to hurt one's hand even in armor~

Indeed. Pretty much videogames make people think that plate armor was clumsy and could be penetrated, when in actuallity you were quite agile and pretty much inmune to hits (although you get dizzy by the blunt force that the armor doesn't absorb) unless it was in a gap.

@@interestingameplay What about a sickle of some kind?
Also, I found a page regarding war scythes; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe
I'd love to see what kind of creative combat techniques you can come up with otherwise :)

Ah yes war scythes were very similar to halbards and spears and used as such.
I actually have a few ideas for using the traditional farming scythe in combat, maybe with sickles and pitchforks I can make some farmer themed combat video haha XD

How are your movements so amazingly smooth. I just got into VR and to me feels impossible lol. Especially in one of your videos where you're jumping and grabbing on to ledges effortlessly..great work. The videos are awesome.

What people don’t understand about armoured sword fighting is that it was more like wrestling than actually swinging a sword

oh oh haha yeah that would do it. Of course your opponent would be trying to do the same thing to you not slashing at your impervious armour. The hits would also not send them flying through the air, but that only happens here because B&S physics are pretty scuffed.
Imagine maces crumpling armour sinking into flesh and bones, blades and points agonisingly slowly being pushed into the knights weak points millimetres at a time as their desperate attempts to fend you off grow weaker... Like all combat armoured combat was messy, brutal and involved a lot of bodily fluids leaking every where.
Our host did well replicating the techniques but games are pretty behind in having a opponent that can react appropriately to the setting and input of the player, whether they be another player or a bot.

Yes unless we get a good grappling system for vr combat it is difficult to get armoured combat right

I swear this game brings out a scary side of me I never knew I had. In nearly all games and media, when it comes to fighting, I always prefer the quick, nimble and risky fighters. I play rushdown characters in fighting games, my favorite character action game is Sifu, in shooters I’m a huge fan of smg’s and when it comes to swordplay and melee weapons, I love katanas, tantos, daggers and rapiers. Yet every time I boot up blade and sorcery, I ALWAYS grab at least one axe and end up tossing my other weapons in favor of axes. I often beat the absolute crap out of my enemies with chops and punches, while also picking them up, tossing them into the air and either juggling them with punches or having them land into my sword. I often bash enemies in the face with the hilt of the weapon before finishing them off with some big slash or stab. I just play in an incredibly brutal play style that would put me on an fbi watchlist. But the weirdest part is that despite preferring and using faster weapons like daggers and katanas that I am much more familiar with and know how to use properly, when I start using any axe or two handed sword, I start doing considerably better with them, despite the fact that I dont know any proper techniques or fighting styles with them. When I use a dagger in the game, I’m still very good, I can dodge well, I can deflect very well despite their size and I can use them very well with other weapons and magic, but I still need to think of plans and strategies while fighting. With the modded katanas, I’m able to use proper techniques and attacks, I can deflect about 95% of attacks, I play very patient and passive very well and I’m very fast with them, but I still need to think a lot about how I fight with them. But then I pick up an axe or great sword and my brain turns off and I’ve suddenly massacred 30 gladiators without taking a hit. It’s like I have some hidden talent with larger weapons that I never knew about. The funny thing is I’m having a similar experience with a shooter I’ve been playing a ton recently called battle bit. With that game I can use any weapon fine, usually getting 1-2 kills per life. But then I use a marksman rifle (mainly the M110) and I’m getting 4-6 kills per life even though I prefer smgs and pistols.
It’s like I get some cliche anime power up whenever I use very specific weapons, it’s so weird.

Wow. Never played this game, but this would actually be a good simulator for historians to use. Even the samurai in japan had to use grappling and techniques very similar to this to get at gaps in armor. From what i know about the samurai, its no wonder they are compared to european knights. Seems like knights did the same thing. Daggers were a good side arm to finish off your enemy after being wounded by main weapon. This is pretty interesting from a historical perspective.
