@@interestingameplay Thanks for posting and you made me download the game again this looks awesome
Whats the specific name of the sword you used?
@@greendesigner If he doesn't reply look though Medieval Mega Pack "Long Sword" category
why? all that mod does is take away the weight of weapons which blade and sorcery has down to a T
That first kill, where you parried, then used a pommel strike across his wrist to disarm, that was really fuckin clean
Dito
Its slowed down but indeed clean
Yeah, no shit it was clean. Kill four should have died way earlier though. I call a programming error on that one.
I’m a HEMA fencer, I saw your post on the subreddit. Just wanted to say that VR melee combat rarely excites me, but you did a really admirable job of putting in some effort to make it look convincing. It’s still not 100% there - the lack of proprioception/kinesthetic awareness will probably always be there and make it feel floaty - but this is one of the best examples I’ve seen. Nice job.
Thanks! Means a lot coming from someone actually in the sport. Glad you enjoyed : )
As a HEMA fencer I second this it is pretty darn good.
As someone who isn't a fencer, I agree.
as a regular dude, this looks pretty dang good
@Ringadingding he is using medieval megapack
the entire point of sword fighting is using the tactics and putting your own spin on it, your "liberties" aren't liberties, they're perfections. great video
@@38centimeters Sword fighting is about sword fighting. It's in the name.
@@38centimeters fighting with swords
@@38centimeters Thanks for the tip, captain obvious. What's gonna come next? Stick'em with the pointy end?
OP is entirely correct. Different bodies, proportions, levels of fitness, weapon, armor and adversary circumstances. How do you think the old masters were made? Especially people like Fiore? Understand what the master is trying to teach you and adapt it to yourself, that's how you git gud at swordfighting.
Source: Personal experience (former adherent to strictly following "proper" stances and fechtbuchs who got it handed to him by people with a better mindset)
@@38centimetersyes, putting your own spin on it to make it as functional as possible for the situation, such as a fucking be game, is perfecting it.
Major strategies are designed specifically for a controlled environment similar to that used in the actual strategy, with minor adaptation for the situation, such as mud, fog, or video game physics in this case.
@@38centimeters i think it's when you fight, with swords..
might be wrong tho idk
Imagine Back then going to war and an infinitely stronger person was on the enemy side
If used to his full potential a enemy with literally impenetrable armor and extremely effective weapons that are usually too heavy for normal combat use would be terrifying

So basically Thorkell from Vinland Saga?
@@vivusbrydyr4039 I didn't watch that
your parrys look so smooth when i try them in my game its really janky and most of the time the enemy just keeps attacking
its the same for me but i think its bc hes using slow motion but editing it to make it look faster? idk but still rlly cool
Yeah I use a lot of sped up slow motion to make things look smoother
@@interestingameplay how do you do that?
@@AssassinLegend77 editing
@@AssassinLegend77 in blade and sorcery you can turn on slow motion
As a HEMA fencer it's nice to see decently executed giocco stretto plays from Fiore! Even the largo stuff is good
Thanks!
If this game had PvP i would never leave the house
Only problem is most people would probably treat it like American larping where they wildly flail till you're dead or they are rather than actually fighting lol
@@GrimViridian you can't wildly flail because the weapons are artificially weighted.
@@shadowyyCFH actually yeah true I haven't played in a long time lol

@@shadowyyCFH ever played for honor? The stamina system would be perfect in blade and sorcery for PvP
This was so much more satisfying than 90% of 'John Wick' style montages, because each move has a purpose. I've always loved zwerchhau -- blasting through an attack with a horizontal counterattack to the head.

Using the handle/pommel is always so satisfying with any weapon, especially swords
Agreed!
i wish the official swords had proper pommels, feels like hitting them with a feather
I'm always trying to reproduce some HEMA techniques I learned, It's so hard to do them in B&S tho. But you managed to do an amazing job recreating them, you can really understand each one of them, this is really cool
Thanks! I've found using slow motion really helps.
@@interestingameplaylol yeah don’t think people realized this was all slomo then sped up for the video
Besides slow mo also try leaning into your swings, its not always easy to do so in VR because you cant see and depending on how big your room is you need to be very careful. Other than that you wanna really get used to moving and looking around in VR because it really feels unnatural.
I love the medieval take on the doom soundtrack, great video too :)
Yeah the soundtrack is great haha, thanks!
2:14 plus the drums here, ah! Best part of the og version, and it hits here almost just as hard
I’ve been doing HEMA for a little over half a year now, and whenever I try something I learned in VR, it translates terribly. I’m extremely impressed with these!
Edit: I blame Nomad’s not great physics.
Glad you liked it! I agree Blade and Sorcery is not great for actual practice, usual gameplay is nothing like this haha
You can really see how many of these moves utilizes "little" motions.
Gotta save energy
Really smooth, really satisfying parries. More of this type of content please, really enjoyed it!
My favorite part of this video is at 1:57. That was just a medieval chefs kiss right there.
This guy is awesome.
The way he handles and uses the longsword is beautiful and I love it.
Keep doing what you’re doing, You’re amazing at it.
Thank you very much!
My inner Liechtenauer is screaming at the lack of Zwerchau strikes.
iirc zwerching is basically impossible because the game forces you to hammer-grip everything
After seeing all of these techniques, i just imagine how terrifying a longswordsman would have been on a battlefield.
Probably not that terrifying since you were most likely in a polearm formation of some sort
Not that terrifying at all to a bunch of guys with spears and halberds. Pole style weapons dominated battlefields
@@kiddfaz right, cheap and effective weaponry for, like, a 1.000+ guys
@@kiddfaz
depending on the period:
enemy: we have spears and pole arms
your side: we have a cannon!
Damn these flashy techniques fr got me forgetting the power of the pointy stick
Did you change your slow mo setting below/above 50 or the same for the choreography? The edit looks amazing.
I use 0.35 for most of my videos
There’s something… oddly menacing about the non-first person segment @1:23 ish. Seeing the chest area not moving when a parry or block occurs, only for it to kind of act like normal when you lean over for a stab is leaning on uncanny valley. If I saw that anywhere else but a VR game and the rest of the hypothetical game had normal animations I’m pretty sure I’d mark the NPC down as an unusual unit. It makes the VR disconnect in sensation act more like a warning to your instinct somehow, like the momentum of the incoming swing has been canceled so completely it doesn’t even shift you. I love it.
This is why realistic sword fighting and more importantly two handers need to be used more over “duel-wielding”.
Properly executed techniques like this are fucking beautiful, and would look incredible on screen.
It’s clear, it flows well, and with the proper effects would create seamless shots without the need for fast cuts
this video not only gave me some new longsword techniques but also the perfect song to listen to while blade and sorcery (and any other medieval fighting games)
this guy playing b&s: main character

Slitting throat of the enemy - tis but a scratch!

2:34
bro single handedly survived, and grabbed his sword
not to mention he dodged really good somehow
Very solid single-time counters and that wind-thrust combo at :14 is *chef's kiss*.
This is just awesome! the way you are able to move the weapon around with a good flow makes it really satisfying.
That was actually impressive, looked a lot like real life techniques!
You know, seeing as how this is sped up slow motion footage. It shows you how insanely fast sword fighting had to be to be able to pull these techniques off
Yep, I imagine it's all instinct and muscle memory since there would be no time to actually think.
@@interestingameplay This. Yes. It applies to martial arts in general. If you have to think to dodge a punch or defend, or attack when you get an opening, it's already too late.
Plus a longsword weigh around like half a 12 year old.
@@supercool1594 they’re actually not that heavy. We’re talking like 4.5 pounds for a longsword, google is awesome
@@fartyturd4084 Huh. My teacher lied to me
If For Honor taught me anything it’s that this is incorrect because you didn’t shoulder bash once and you stabed people
if god of war has taught me anything its that bladed edges only work at their earliest convenience
If Metal Gear Rising has taught me anything it is that blades only cut properly once the boss's health drops to zero.
If Halo taught me anything it's that pokey swords make you leap forward at your nearest foe when you punch.
Impressive swordsmanship and you do know your stuff quite well.
Without mods or anything and on endless melee only ( no cheats enabled) I’ve gotten to 247, god I wish I spent my time with the mods (he?) has as weapon collision working right and everything else would’ve been amazing
wow this gives me a new perspective of how to utilize a sword, this is actually pretty educational thanks for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Mad respect for being able to counter the axe like that and making it look amazing
I have like 400 hours in blade and sorcery and every time i have tried to do something flashy like that it just ends up looking stupid
Thanks! To be fair that was done in slow motion to make it easier :)
The way you grab the end of your blade to lock up their weapons pushing the weapons down then deliver a deadly strike or stab is absolutely phenomenal. Your videos are the only ones I've watched that I enjoy the combat of. I even use some of the techniques in the video and apply them to when I play the game or when I occasionally spar with a friend. Love the content.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed :)
the fact that you make use of someone elses weapon shape to counter them

I love the Bardcore BFG division playing in the background😭😭
the medieval BFG division is killing me it's so good
Fr I was looking through comments to see if anyone noticed
This is the kind of entertainment I suscribed this channel for. You literally can't get this quality, with this choreography, with this editing, anywhere else. Everytime a notification comes from this channel, I know I'm up for a ride. This was no exception, good shit man!
Thank you very much, means a lot :)
This is the most brutal thing I’ve ever seen
For those wondering, the technique where you grab the blade of your own sword is called half swording, it was used for attacking the joints of armor.
Loved the alternate BFG Devision track in the background
What D&D says when attacking with a Longsword: "1d8 slashing"
What it's supposed to look like:
This excellent VR game deserves excellent player like you.
2:37 bro ain't dead, he's gonna come back as the main enemy in the sequel with that cut up cheek. Lol
i wish the physics of the game worked this well in realtime. always feels like I'm cheating when I use slow-mo. It may fix the physics and jank, but now I don't have to try :C
awesome video as always btw!
got any recommendations for tweaking the physics numbers in the Misc section of the book? (under the sandbox tab) To try and get something close or satisfying at least for myself?
I use the fast handling mod with custom values (in the pinned comment if you want to use the same)
@@interestingameplay aight tyvm
The style is awesome, but I just like the medieval BFG division in the backgrouns
I'll always refer back to this video when I'm doing slo-mo shit in blade and sorcery, just to study all the little movements that make this so cool. Especially that third part with you redirecting the head of the axe with the blade of your sword, only to thrust your blade forward and into the throat of the aggressor with such clean precision.
P.s, what was the time slow multiplier set to?
I use between 0.35 to 0.5
idk why but it made me smile when i saw Otsider mark on their hand
pretty good technique there, great footwork circling around your opponents to get around their guard, parries, riposte, half sword, pommel bash.
That was beautiful. God, I love witnessing real skill. There's just something really beautiful in the purity of it.
This is sword fighting (fencing, whatever), but it's the same with anything really, carpentry, painting, doesn't matter, skill is skill and it's beautiful to see implemented perfectly.
Great video, it's a fucking joy to watch.
EDIT: Yeah, I know that you used slow-mo and sped it up, but the video speaks for itself. Honestly, it's a really great demonstration of pure skill in action, even if there's some slight faking in order to get the end result. The end result is the beautiful demonstration of it that's doing it for me. I don't even care about how it was made, it's gorgeous.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed :)

THIS IS THE BEST BLADE AND SORCERY VIDEO I HAVE EVER WATCHED
The only time I have seen a realistic fighting be actually realistic
great video! Thank you for mentioning the fact that this was recorded in slowmo
>"I'm no expert in medieval combat"
>proceed to execute the best of Fiore de Liberi in the first 30 sec
good music choice also👌
Glad you liked it :)
my friend- you are amazing and this must be protected at all costs
I can’t believe it took me over Half the video to realise the background music was medieval doom
By far one of the better VR sword fighting videos I have watched! Keep it up. 🙂
Thanks!
I practice with this one dude who always moves his head up down and side to side. He looks like a chicken observing a worm they found before they peck at it. Hes one of the best swordsman i know
You're a legend, dude. Awesome skills.
how is this so clean.. i can watch this all day with this music in the back. keep it up man!
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it!
This just proves flashy movie swords men would never stand a chance against a trained sword fighter
I didn't even know thatediaeval BFG Division was possible
Broo I didn’t realize it was a classical version of bfg division in the background this is amazing
This is how finishers in games should look like.
I watched this, and then I watched an expert. You’re not actually far off.
Different style, obviously everyone has a separate style. But still, not bad at all.
when ever i play off camera ive been using HALT techniques? lol didnt know that, i just do what ever feels badass
As I was watching this I realized I have a medieval combat book that may have some use now
I love that you gave us a doom song, but in lute and lyre style.
Dude at 2:35 is a champ. Took the blade to the face and powered through.
the amount of elegance is unreal in those techniques
There's something surprisingly snappy about the weight of these attacks that's pretty awesome.
Imagine trying to rob this guy and he just pulls out the longest knife in the kitchen

The medieval Doom Music absolutely makes this imho.
thats some scarry stuff, usually it isnt how its portrayed in media. but compared to the media portrayal, this seems just so effective, and brutal, almost like it cant be stopped.
As a (yet another) HEMA fencer I must say that you have done a very good job in making it look as justifiably realistic as possible. There certainly were moments where, for example you wouldn´t have moved the enemy´s weapon where you wanted (in reality)because you did not have a mechanical advantage. Other than that it was very nice and smooth. I like that you used halfswording techniques, pommel strikes, caught the opponent´s weapon and even attempted to do the zorn-haw("strike of wrath" / "wrath hew" / "Peasant strike" in old german) and it went quite nicely. I enjoyed the video very much. Good job!
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed!
Honestly I was impressed that winding worked as well as it did in the engine physics.
This video really helped me with my form in game
Cool stuff. I've been wondering, though, does this game have a difficulty setting or is the AI always like that? I've seen a lot of Blade and Sorcery videos and I don't think I've ever seen anyone be genuinely challenged or lose a fight.
It does have a difficulty setting, but once you get used to the attacks even the hardest difficulty is pretty meh. There are mods that make it harder though.
the medevil doom music caught up with me half way through and i lost it
That first kill alone was the cleanest shit I’ve ever seen.
Thanks!
This game is literally the reason I want a VR headset.
PCVR, Stand-alone, or console vr?
Couldn't even tell that it was sped up, amazing job! Still hoping for the day Blade and Sorcery removes the jank from real time gameplay lol
i think it's an engine thing. not much to be done there. unity has some janky physics. unreal has a bit better physics. still janky sometimes, but still better than unity's 3d physics
I was so entranced by the combat that i only noticed near the end that the music in the background was a medieval styled doom soundtrack LOL
amazing gameplay
Thank you!
Imagine fighting in a medival warfar and having the ennemy side with the doomslayer music (i would run away as fast as i can)
Thank god someone knows what there doing , using the whole sword not just the blade
I'm glad you approve!
Historically accurate doom music as well.
I call dibs on this guy when the zombies get here
My guy, your winds, zorn orts, and half sword transitions looked super clean. I am amazed that winding like that is even possible in a fun and silly game like this. Hope you find your club soon, look up HEMA club finder if you haven't already
Thanks! I'll check it out
*And those that tasted the bite of his sword named him...*
*The Peasant Slayer.*
that axe intercept was nutty
I'm actually really hyped for the bosses in this game at least the one i'd seen the trailer because its not something we've really ever seen before in vr, at least the melee combat ones.
