I wish they'd update the bosco lines so you get stuff like "Bosco, we're rich!" When you ping compressed gold. It still commands him but also is keeping the line
I would love that. They should give bosco a little extra personality. Ping the gold or a bittergem like you said and your dwarf will say "Bosco we're rich!" And Bosco will do a little cheer and a twirl before grabbing it. Or if you ping a mushroom the dwarf will say "Hey bosco.. mushroom!" And Bosco will make a beep that sounds like he's trying to say mushroom back.
It was great of the devs to make the game a fun experience even if you don't play multiplayer the way the game was intended. Also, we get Bosco. So that's just a huge win for everyone.
Playing long mining expeditions at 3AM solo is an experience. It gives an immersive feeling of dread being alone in large caves knowing that if you take too long you might get overrun
It’s definitely the immersive feeling of being trapped in that cave, knowing you can’t leave until you get the job done. The dark tunnels echo with swarms of bugs headed for you, and you know despite your extensive hauls of minerals to Molly, you still have only cleared half of your objectives.
@@nullstate8117i grinded all the weapon OCs in multiplayer, with so many players also grinding for cosmetics or weapon OCs i wouldn’t say it’s necessarily useless
most of my playtime in deep rock is actually playing hazard 3 solo as a way to relax after a hard day, theres something about taking your time and eviscerating bugs without the pressure of the team that i really enjoy
I really like solo. There’s less pressure to “perform” well because you don’t have to worry about letting your team down. Just you and Bosco hanging out and mining.
I felt that way before trying coop, and its most of the time false. you don't even have to communicate much with other players, just use your abilities well
I played solo drg until I got one promotion on each dwarf Sort of getting used to the game before I got into multiplayer And I don’t think I can ever go back to it, but I can see why people enjoy it
@CoolSs Its peer to peer. Your latency is how far you are from the host, that isnt something the devs can change unless they had dedicated servers. Which isn't worth it
Honestly we need more players who do this. I also played solo first for awhile with each class. It helps with being independent. Players often get too caught up in their role when only multiplayer.
I feel like people dont appreciate this kind of playstyle enough, really immersing yourself in a game can give that game a totally different vibe and i think its pretty slept on
100% agree with the feeling of "taking in the environment" during solo. I'm not usually the type to get into the spirit of role-playing but there's just something about DRG that makes me want to press salute while facing Bosco after a tough mission, and then getting a nice cold brew at the bar right after. It's like multiplayer gives you that chaotic energy of a bustling city while solo feels like taking a relaxing walk in the countryside surrounded with nothing but nature's music. Love this game to bits.
Solo DRG really highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each class and why they all compliment each other so well. You really feel the lack of a driller, gunner, engineer, or even scout when they aren't around.
I played solo to get the achievements and after 100 missions solo, it just felt so lonely. The feeling of comradely, cooperation and the mindset of leaving no one behind is what makes this game what it is. The increased enemy spawn rate and the rocks and stones you get after clearing the swarm is what makes the co-op experience fantastic. But I also understand why people like playing solo. The mission’s pace is completely dictated by yourself and Bosco is so nice to just have around.
I mostly play with friends and or random in DRG, but sometimes I just wanted to get a assignment done. So I started playing solo a lot more, and I can’t lie, it may be an equal in enjoyment to the coop gameplay.
I’ll be honest, a huge chunk of my playtime in DRG has been done solo. I have a group of friends that enjoy playing this game, so it’s fun to get together for a session when we can. But life sometimes makes things hard, and we can’t always play. So I often just play solo. Sometimes to work on weekly challenges, or if I want to play a game, but can’t decide on what to play. And with me just now getting into trying out mods for the game, it gives me more incentive to just try things on my own. Playing solo also gives me a means to try out new builds. Like before, I rarely ever used Gunner’s Autocannon. But as of late, I’ve been experimenting with it a lot in solo and have been really enjoying it. And I get not everyone enjoys playing these kinds of games alone. Heck; the game was built with multiplayer in mind. But I’m glad that unlike with so many other Team Shooters, DRG has something substantial for solo play.
I love the way DRG picks enemies from the total enemy pool rather than having all of them spawn on any given mission. I noticed Darktide does the same thing and it adds a lot. Its counteruntuitive because you'd think reduced enemy variety on an individual mission would be a bad thing, but it feels nice. It gives individual missions their own flavour.
I almost exclusively play solo and I love it. There is just one problem I have with it: you just don't really get massive hordes where you can just burst your way through 50 bugs at once with driller or gunner
i love how enemy stats change based on the player count *and* hazard level. i didn't even realize that until checking something about a random enemy and notices the chart on the wiki. it's just perfect, and is one reason i only do elimination on hazard 3 with 4 players (even though i play 4 almost all the time) - the health to DPS ratio just feels perfect there, whereas with 2 or 3 players it's a bit better on 4.
One of my greatest feats was complicating a Deep dive solo. It felt so good to actually complete it and say I did a Deep Dive solo. Then I got the Achievement for under 45mins. I’m probally going to try the Elite Deep Dive this week as I’ve heard it’s straightforward.
Congrats! It took me quite a few attempts before getting a solo EDD. Many round 3 failures were at hand. It certainly feels great when you finally nail it. And yes, this week is a very good week to do a solo EDD. I did it blind as gunner, there's nothing that's particularly frustrating to deal with.
@@tylerm6811 oh cool, yah my first ever deep dive had the repair the drop pod mission and I just couldn’t stay in the bubble and kill everything so eventually I lost. I was a Scout (the only promoted dwarf I had) with no overclocks wielding the assault rifle and shotgun.
@Randall Petersen OP was talking about tackling the EDD, there's no escort in that one this week. On a side note, escort is the one mission type I almost never do in pubs. People like to do the "drill ahead before starting up dotty" strat and it just isn't fun to me. I can see escort being rough though if you're not used to it solo.
Solo honestly is a lot of fun for me at least. I know I’m not the greatest at the game but even with the friends I have that own the game they don’t even remember I exist and own the game. It doesn’t take away from the fun running solo in DRG brings. It’s a timeless game that always keeps my attention.
One of my favorite things about solo mode is that you are free to play however or make whatever decisions you want. You don't have to match someone else's pace. I can go as fast as I wish.
I just finished up the starting 10 missions, and was pretty surprised to find 46% of players had done so, but only 14% of people had even ever played 10 rounds solo. Feels good to know that it's pretty rare for someone to have soloed a dreadnought, I honestly had a blast doing it as scout.
I rarely play solo because it's a pain having to do everything myself, it takes freaking forever. And I don't get a voiceline when I ping things, my dwarf just shouts at Bosco.
Yea solo is fun sometimes but its just too boring for me to play it all the time. I like the chaos that comes with having other dwarves with you. I also miss the bigger swarms that you have when you have 4 players. Solo they just feel too small even on haz 5
If you don't want to do everything yourself, use Bosco. He can mine aquarqs and eggs, he can carry stuff like hacking nodes and omoran heartstones, he can protect Doretta, he can build pipelines. Really the only thing he's bad at in terms of objectives is killing shit and mining morkite.
I mainly stick to solo due to not being the most socially adapt, whenever I do play multiplayer I always feel like I have to over perform in order to "pull my weight" doesn't matter which game it is. Solo allows me to relax and not have to take things as seriously, or at least that's how I feel. All we need for solo is "Bosco! We're Rich!" or "Bosco! Mushroom!"
I only play solo when I'm alone at the beginning of a mission, and it's usually a race to see how many tasks I can get Bosco to do before the joining scout makes him explode.
I played solo most of my time in drg. Transitioned around middle of season 2 to more multiplayer but i was around pre season 1 and played an ass ton of solo. The main reason was probably like you said, being able to take time. I remember I took a full hour on a 400 morkite mission in Magma Core solo and I just wanted to explore the entire cave, something I've noticed is pretty rare on 400 morkites in public lobbies. Take in the ambiance, hearing the deep choir in the track that was playing, the sounds of the geysers and the jets, probably my most memorable misson of all time. Second only to an EDD that haunts me in my nightmares.
I have played DRG in solo as much as in MP with friends, and to be honest, it was just as good for me. Also, bosco is OP. Especially on aquarq and egg missions. Every time there was an aquarq mission in EDD, bosco just carried me through it. But there is still downsides. I always forget, that you dont have the voicelines, so everytime I see mushroom or comp. gold, I still try to get the funny, but then I immidiatly get reminded.
Part of the fun is the wacky situations you and your team wind up in. Most of these stem from a team member making a small errors or solutions to problems you wouldnt have thought of.
The reason I play solo half the time is because you really take in the feel of each map. Also, you feel confident and personal growth more as you progress through higher hazards and more warnings with your own capabilities.
The fact that this game has such a viable and fun solo experience despite being a game that's intended to be played with others, speaks volumes towards the passion the devs have for the game to make it enjoyable to all types of dwarves. Be it you like bringing a drunken brigade into the caves, being a group of speed demons or a lone wolf who takes his time, the game welcomes all.
If I ever start up DRG these days, I pretty much play exclusively solo... mainly due to a lack of people to play with at the time, but it does teach you a lot. Definitely no substitute for a smart friend, but it has its charm and is the main way I've experienced DRG.
On the watching while playing thing, what I’ve found is I’ll watch stuff I normally wouldn’t quite have the attention span to watch. Stuff like video essays and educational lectures, so inronically playing deep rock actually makes me more productive because I end up listening to a video with some educational value instead of something that demands my full attention.
I also tend to watch/listen to videos while doing some gaming. Apparently 75% of my drg time/2500-ish missions is spent in solo, I blame the performance anxiety and I'm glad I at least have 1 friend to play with or else that number would be even higher
My first time being able to embrace the ambiance and desolance of Hoxxes was during a multiplayer session in Escort where 3 of us could not find the damn secondary objective ores and it made me realize how... Quiet the area was that I really began to admire the place. It was quite an experience even if the mission took way longer than it should had. Fathomless Tomb also enhanced it a lot.
I got into DRG thanks to a couple online friends. They took me on missions and we played for a bit, and I sucked of course. So, eventually I decided to learn the game properly by trying solo. Soon after, they all kind of lost their taste for the game, while I stuck with it, and being too anxious about playing with random folk I decided to just play the game solo more. And I started to really like the game that way. Playing solo is a very different experience. Slower, more methodical, more careful when compared to the mayhem of multiplayer. There are only so many tries you get, there's no one else to help in a tough spot except Bosco. It really brings the alien and horror aspects of the game, that usually fall to the background with other people's chaos to the front. I mostly play with random people nowadays as I overcame the anxiety of it, but sometimes I still like to fire up a solo mission, and take it slow, really let the atmosphere of the game seep in. To anyone who read this far, rock and stone!
might be hella random, but i remember playing an online game with you a little while back!! i remember you because you were genuinely the most considerate, skilled and reliable teammate i think ive ever had in this game and i feel like you even slightly changed my perspective on this game in the best possible way :3 enough yapping tho i hope you see this and i hope you have an amazing life
I usually do missions open to public, which stems mostly from my fear of losing a mission due to the host DCing. Sometimes I get to do the full mission myself and sometimes people would just swarm in from the first second
I play solo all the time. I play with friends, but a lot of the times our schedules don't align or they're busy playing other things. When that happens I usually just play solo. On occasion I'll join lobbies, but solo is really chill, and bosco is op.
Solo can be fun sometimes, and Bosco is a big help, but the thing is is that playing with other people is just so much more fun. Right now the only times I play solo is either during a Deep Dive that I think might be easier alone, when my internet is being crappy, or when I simply just wanna take my time, cause one thing I find myself doing in DRG is digging out huge bits of terrain that look like they'd be satisfying to break, but I can't really do that when playing with other people or I'd just be wasting their time if it ends up taking a while. If I'm playing solo, I can do that as much as I like. Another reason why playing coop is better is because some perks like Shield Link and Field Medic just become entirely pointless when playing solo, so if you regularly run those perks then there's no situation you can use them when playing alone. Also like said in the video, the difficulty scales with the players present, so the game feels more challenging when there's several players as opposed to when there's just you and Bosco, that's another reason I typically like playing coop, cause I like the challenge, seeing just how much I can handle All in all, the solo experience is definitely more fun than people give it credit for, it's just that coop is a way more fun experience, mainly for me it's just because I get to share the whole experience with everyone I'm playing with.
When you were talking about playing games and watching vids and being alone.. you talked for me and I feel a bit less introverted for knowing others do it too. I play plenty with my brother and his friends and I love it! But damn, when the house is quiet at night and no distractions, my modded Minecraft or whatever game and a video is how I would describe someone eating their favorite chocolate or sipping on wine, but for entertainment and engagement. It feels good. It’s relaxing enough but I’m not so relax that my thoughts are allowed to wander to anything depressing or what not. I think over active minds need to be distracted just enough to keep it from being bored and searching for emotional thoughts for stimulation, instead I have video games for wind down time AND activity and fun. A video is to keep the side topic focused on it and even learn some new stuff. Not sure why 2 mindful things makes it relaxing and cozy but it just does sometimes..
I used to play with people frequently, but they moved on to other games. After getting the achievement for so many solo plays, I found it to be a great time to watch videos on the side while playing. You've mentioned it in this video, but I know for me it feels like I am being more productive. I love the dwarf-to-dwarf lines and I wish there was a secret tag for single player that allows you replicate the flavourful lines. Bosco is a friend and I love that it salutes back when rock'n'stoning. I'm glad solo works so well and that Bosco is so flexible.
for me certain missions feel better in solo, like mining expeditions since it lets me calmly clear the caves with no worry of catching up. While other missions like sabotage and refinery are better in teams since its quicker. But sometimes I'm forced to play solo anyway when nobody joins my lobby
I like single player because it feels way more immersive, and I’ve had so many experiences with being down there in the caves, just exploring with the ambient sounds in the background and Fathomless Tomb playing, and just feeling that sense of scale and loneliness down there, even though I still get to kill decently sized hordes of bugs. It’s a really nice balance, and I think it’s really well made.
I think a lot of the change in solo comes from the lack of unique voice lines for pinging items. A lot of the newer lines for dwarves are comedic in nature, and removing that elements brings the game closer to the original vision of the game. I always use the words "mystery" and "tension" when describing that sort of atmosphere, but singleplayer really brings out the ambient soundtrack and the various sounds of the caves. You really feel like you're in isolation deep underground when you're doing solo, and not just because you don't have anyone with you.
There are a lot of interesting things about bosco. For example, bosco does not attack the caretaker. Also bosco sometimes glitches when you try to rocket gunk seeds. He just won’t shoot a rocket, but when he attacks the next enemy he instantly shoots the rocket at the enemy instead. So I use this to preload the rockets
As someone who is hackneyed level tired of having to be multiplayer hyperactive 24/7, seeing a solo experience for DRG makes it much more appealing. Thanks for putting this up!
I am a massive D&D nerd, and I love to throw on solo deep rock in the background while I run campaigns. Sometimes me and my friends all do deep rock matches together while also playing dnd together. Great time. Rock and stone!
Hey man I completely agree, I've kind of forced myself to play DRG solo for a few years mainly because I wanted to focus on college and career, and I couldn't be happier. This game has so much punch and fun to the gameplay when you are the one directing the flow of the game, and with all the over clocks, I've gotten pretty creative on how I kill bugs, Rock and Stone!
I played with you once. Saw you had a game going with a spot open, jumped in and stayed for 3 games. Was great fun playing with a youtuber i recognized. :)
I just bought the game..and i mostly playing solo, I'm more comfortable that way, for people like me who doesn't like to mingle with people much, this game is adequate, they pretty much accommodate solo play as much as they can..feel nice so far Granted it might be harder when playing on higher level, but i can install some mods to compensate it. And when you stand above the abyss looking down hearing all those environment sounds , somehow it's so serene and relaxing in a way... something you can't get among the chaos of multiplayer, i get it, it might be fun and all with friends, but it's just not my style, people tend to rush to complete the objective as a team.. i prefer to doing mission on my own pace.. Sorry for the long read..
I used to just play solo when my dad and brothers couldn't play. Randoms scared me. Finally gave random a go. Love it but I have starlink internet in the middle of nowhere so sometimes it's a little glitchy and I feel bad. Still love solo to accomplish random things but helping greenbeards is fun too. Bosco never fragged me, always count on a quick revive (or 4 mwhahaha) it's fun sometimes just to explore how you want in solo, and you can pause the game big plus.
I used to play this with my friends all the time but as their availability just became less frequent and I started getting frustrated having to wait for them to come online I started playing solo to scratch that itch. Over the last month I've clocked up over 100 hours of play time and completed nearly 200 solo missions (Mostly on Hazard 2-3, cause I'm a p*ssy xD) I'm actually surprised how much I've started enjoying doing Industrial Sabotage. First time I played one I was like "I never want to do that again" but now I've played through them a dozen times and I've learned the strats I blitz through them. (I still only play them if they come up in an assignment though, they're not my top pick, especially if I'm just level/resource grinding) I totally sympathise with the having something on in the background sentiment too. Though with Deep Rock I do end up having to pause whatever the video is during a swarm or something that wants my full attention.
I started playing DRG with multiplayer only. I couldn't really do Solo, because I couldn't carry my own weight. I needed people to tell me what to do or that they can do the heavy lifting while I was learning the game. But now I'm only doing Solo. The Community is great, wholesome af, but I had so much grinding to do to get the Overclock that I wanted : Special Powder for example. With the Mod SWARM CONTROL i could make deep dives and even elite deep dives managable solo. It gave me time to grind and also watch the D&D Campaigns I wanted to watch, but couldn't find time to do. So I could listen to & watch the things I wanted, while also progressing in DRG slowly towards the place I wanted to be. It's lonely, sure, but I enjoy it a lot ^^
I like playing alone, since i am mine everything type of player. Sadly when i play multiplayer so many people are just rushing like crazy, leaving me behind. I am then stuck trying to catch up and finding their tunels. With bosco i can explore and mine, chilling.
I've played more solo of DRG than co op because my friends just don't enjoy the game as much as I do, and I don't really see myself getting tired of it. I'm almost up to silver promotions across the board and I don't grind the game religiously to the point where I burn myself out, but every couple of days or so I'll jump in and spend sometimes a good 6 or more hours just going around and playing the game. One of my biggest things that I tell new people about this game is how I feel about the difficulty scaling so I'm so happy to hear it talked about here. I love how the difficulties feel, I personally play on Hazard 4 when I just want to vibe because it fits that balance of not feeling monotonous but not punishing with good game sense. When I want to have that rush I play on 5, because I know that I need to lock in and actually use brain power or I'll lose in 20 seconds flat.
For me solo definitely has it's pros and cons. -You get to really appreciate the atmosphere of the game -You are the main character and get to do all the things (this goes deeper than carrying, anything that doesn't just involve holding E in this game is not just a chore: building pipelines, gathering minimule legs, hacking robots even depositing aquarq is fun in this game, so it can really suck when teamnates get to them first, it's not anybodys fault but that just makes it even more frustrating) But cons that keep people from solo once they get a hang of it -Since you are the only flare producer, the caves are always dark and you will backtrack and get lost a lot. Playing scout is basically a very important QoL feature for solo (oh and Bosco light sucks bad) -Your greybeard exp might be talking for the difficulty but while hazards are complex they do have their own share of problems, and in solo the difficulty does spike. Many gamemodes (on haz 5) escelate to the point of no breathing room and forced speedrunning. Since all the heat is on you all the time, you can't have a revive cycle and nobody is there to fill any skill gaps. You can lower it, but swarms will never feel as cool as normal and more of a scary even struggle for survival, which is cool in it's own way but can really feel needlessly stressfull and bad. Bosco is om but he can't take the heat off you aside from bit more disruption with rockets you forgot exist and recharge forever. -As one player time can drag, given people hate IS due to length, this is bad
Great vid, I feel you with this situation. I also need that chill alone time where I just play something really really calm and watch documentaries. I Just love the vibe, youa re not alone :D keep it up bro!
Titanfall 2 & Battlefield 1 were a couple multiplayer games I loved to play solo. The team/squad sizes made cooperation relatively "easy to do non-verbally" especially with the clear game mode objectives. You hear a lot when playing online multiplayer solo, without friends to distract you... hear it all basically lol. The good, the bad, the weird. But I'll never forget teaching some random kid I sniped a dozen + times in the previous match how to compensate for bullet drop on sniper rifles in Battlefield 1. Had him join an empty lobby explained how the mechanic worked & how to adjust the sights + "how to aim up without changing the sights" The enthusiasm and surprise I heard in him made me glad I replied to his angry xbox live message with an offer to teach him how to shoot instead of taunting him more 😅 It was a total big brother instict, first you gotta tease & style on the newbie to show 'em what they lack.... then once that's over and they calm down you teach 'em how to do it themselves 😂❤ Having three younger brothers has definitely influenced my personality that's for sure hahaha
I have over 2k hours in this game, and the majority of my play time is spent in solo funnily enough, I don't play with randoms unless I feel like it which isn't often, and I only play with my friends when they want to play which also isn't often. The atmosphere in the game feels so much more enhanced when you don't have 1-3 other dwarves running around and shouting constantly which I think helps you feel the more spookiness vibe that the caves truly are capable of. If anyone's ever played the game without Bosco, it's especially noticeable. When you are totally alone, the atmosphere in the caves have 0 distractions and make you feel a deep sense of loneliness and discomfort at times. I love playing this game with friends, but playing solo feels like a much richer gloomier atmospheric experience that is all thanks to the amazing sound design in the game carrying it when alone, and makes it feel just as incredible as playing with your friends. Sure, it's technically the same game when you play solo, but how it actually feels? It feels like a different game entirely, just because the mood and atmosphere feels completely different when alone, and the fact that you have to rely on yourself so much more, as there is no infinite incaps in solo, or none/1 if without Bosco. And I love that so much, it's why I'm still playing this game years after early access. Solo and co-op are both very different feeling experiences which further makes the game feel fresh on top of all the other systems that just essentially make the game infinitely replayable like map generation. It's rare to really find a co-op focused game, where the single player experience has a completely different feel despite being literally the same game fundementally, and I think that just further shows how much of a masterpiece DRG is at its core. This will probably be one of my favorite games for the rest of my life, and I can't wait to see what more the future holds for DRG, Rock and Stone!
as far as "ambient sounds" you can often hear a distant/quiet drilling noise, the noise the various pods make when dropping in the game...this is obv deep rock sending other dwarves/supplies/etc. to other dwarven teams, since DRG obv isnt just 4 dwarves and management.
as someone who mostly plays deep rock solo (but occasionally with friends) i totally agree on it being chill and not having to worry about other players sometimes lol. in solo you can go at your own pace and you get to make all the decisions so everything you want to get done can get done. having to keep up with people speedrunning through the caves while you'd prefer to look around and people not seeing, or taking ages to harvest, resources you've pinged but can't reach yourself in multiplayer is truly just not a great experience sometimes. also you get the whole resupply pod to yourself, what's not to love about that? bosco does need to learn to protect doretta better and learn to mine a whole ore vein in one go though, grrrrr. HARD agree on having a video or music up while playing games as well, love doing it but can't do it in multiplayer personally.
man I totally get you, they made solo an awesome standalone experience, managing to make it distinct from multiplayer and a totally manageable fun thing to do on your own, though lately I've been enjoying interacting with the public, I love helping greenbeards out also goo gun best gun, 10/10 would ooze again, love the skill potential of the weapon and its versatility
It's really nice to see devs who actually take care to make sure that playing solo is as enjoyable as playing with other humans. It's really great how many functions BOSCO has and how much it helps you out with your tasks. More devs should do this. But I don't agree on the difficulty thing. It's a me problem, but I never manage to hit that sweet spot difficulty wise and it's always either too easy or frustrating to play.
I’ve only ever played multiplayer one time surprisingly, and that was back when I first got the game and didn’t know what to do. Since then I’ve only played Drg solo to learn the ropes, but now I have gold promotions for all 4 dwarfs but practically zero multiplayer experience lol
Bosco saves solo play and is a genius solution for covering the mechanics that are suppose to be co-op. Minerals in the ceiling? Bosco, go mine it. Need some light? Bosco, go there. Need someone to defend the drilldozer? Bosco, protect the drilldozer. Solo is fun but not the same as co-op at all. The difficulty scaling for bug numbers is a huge reason why DRG is fun. 4 player swarms makes the game so target rich and feel like you're playing against an unending horde. I'm happy that the devs tuned the difficulty so everyone can enjoy the game, even if it's not the ideal experience you can have fun by yourself. Bug HP scaling, bug density/numbers scaling, to even how they act because dreadnoughts/praetorians/oppressors won't turn on a dime in solo play. Ghostship took their time to make sure people who don't have friends and don't want to play online can enjoy their game. They really are a genuinely good company to my knowledge. Content is entirely free bar the cosmetic packs that fund the development of the game, seasonal passes aren't time gated and move to cargo crates, and they interact/communicate with the community. A gem in the hellscape that is "modern gaming." I just wish they got even more funding and grow in popularity so seasons can come even faster.
I can second his opinions on solo missions. I have played my fair share of them and I still do when I just want to escape the real world. I'd say that morkite missions are the best solo missions because you can always have a moment of peace and quite when you're deciding where to go next and the only thing you hear are molly's footsteps, bosco's robotic movement sounds, cave ambience and the amazing background music. It's a whole different thing without people shouting at your ear all the time.
I completely agree with playing solo helps you learn the game mechanics, me and my friends started playing this game and whenever they weren't online I'd play solo and not even think that multi-player was a thing. I learned a lot of the game solo and eventually when I promoted 2 dwarfs I switched to playing with randoms and it was actually a lot of fun!
I generally reserve solo for days that I absolutely do not feel like being rushed. This latest group of greenbeards seems to be in a rush which is fine most days - but sometimes a guy just wants to scrape every single speck of mineral off the walls and enjoy the quiet. Especially egg hunt missions.
[You need to lower the volume of the game a bit Snis, it's making it a bit hard to pay attention to what you're saying.] but yeah, I played a lot of solo when I started playing the game. 90% of the missions I played to be exact, nowadays it's only a fifth of my playtime, but that's excluding the times I opened a lobby and no one joined (cry) and all the stuff you said is correct, the whole paying more attention to details one for example, you hit the nail on the head, I'm one of the few people that know you can slap gunkseeds bc I didn't know at the time you could shoot them so I tried to hit them with my pickaxe like an ebonut, or the fact that Bosco salutes you back if you Rock and Stone, etc. Keep making the good content we all love, dude. ROCK AND STONE!

As someone who mainly plays, Solo missions in drg i can confirm Sniss sums it up quite nicely there is more that could be said but overall great video. (Instead of saying your lonely say your a solo!😊)
i relate to the whole "subway surfers syndrome" I cant draw without somethin playing in the back and your videos are background noise for me right now lol (also u r epic for watching FitMc, rock n' stone brother
I started out playing exclusively solo missions for my first nearly 80 hours, the transition to multiplayer was boring due to the responsibility being greatly taken from myself to the team as a whole. Helped my love and knowledge of the game grow before I even met the community.
playing Solo is a much more methodical and low stress environment (at least for me) than playing public. Getting to control every action and know what has and hasn't been mined while slowly struggling more and more with incoming waves is an experience you can't quite meet with the chaos of the regular game, especially the always encroaching darkness and the far too slow flare recharge. Plus I feel like you never need to worry about Ammo with Solo, maybe I've just been getting lucky in my admittedly few Solo experiences, but being able to quad dip on every resup makes it a lot less stressful to run more inefficient builds.
It's just as stressful in a different way. You might get to use all four resupply charges, but you also have to be the one getting the 80 nitra by yourself. And you need to pick strategic spots to call in a resupply since you'll be coming back to it to get all the ammo. In higher hazards the most dangerous part of the mission is surviving the initial waves before getting the 80 nitra, and then surviving the resupply trips. Being hit by a wave while on the way to the resupply is always butt clenching
I pretty much exclusively play solo, with the exceptions of maybe joining into missions for assignments, mostly because my normal DRG friends have had busted computers for a while. I like going things at my own pace too, so it's nice to be ""allowed"" to farm gold, extra nitra, crafting minerals, and lost helmets, instead of having the group run off to fight a Bulk Detonator while I'm getting desperately-needed Magnite and then having to use Dash perk to catch up to half of them getting downed in the middle of an exploded lava geyser. Don't get me wrong, I love the multiplayer shenanigans, rituals, and teamplay; I recently had a Dreadnaught mission where we had to tryhard our brains out with aggro kiting and got to celebrate with a nice Driller shortcut to the drop pod while the Scout had no more ammo. Randoms will always have a different energy than friends though, and Bosco will always match my pace about as friendly as any AI can, even if he'll sometimes mistake an order to shoot a Rival Sniper as an order to point his flashlight at it.
Whenever I have to do point extraction for an assignment, Bosco always gets to stretch his (legs-) arms for a nice and easy Haz 1-2 mission to chill out on
funnily enough you talk about having some other entertainment on the side while playing DRG, I do the exact same, and most times it’s actually your videos, gives me the right amount of soothing and stimulation. Either that or I listen to Magnus Archives or Adeptus Ridiculous
Get this idea to the devs NOW
that'd be amazing ngl
We're rich!
Look at that mushroom, drone!
It was great of the devs to make the game a fun experience even if you don't play multiplayer the way the game was intended. Also, we get Bosco. So that's just a huge win for everyone.
one thing you may not know is DRG can also be played with no internet connection solo
Oh yes. More devs really need to give people a solo/offline experience for multiplayer games.

"men wanna be alone...but we don't wanna be by ourselves"
and that's why Bosco is perfect
Playing long mining expeditions at 3AM solo is an experience. It gives an immersive feeling of dread being alone in large caves knowing that if you take too long you might get overrun
Make sure you're getting enough sleep miner. DRG thanks you for the overtime.
It’s definitely the immersive feeling of being trapped in that cave, knowing you can’t leave until you get the job done. The dark tunnels echo with swarms of bugs headed for you, and you know despite your extensive hauls of minerals to Molly, you still have only cleared half of your objectives.
You're not alone though, you're with Bosco and Molly!

most of my playtime in deep rock is actually playing hazard 3 solo as a way to relax after a hard day, theres something about taking your time and eviscerating bugs without the pressure of the team that i really enjoy
it's also something that I love to do while listening to music or watching video essays!
ye its cool
i play Solo 90% of the time. Haz4 most of the time. its relaxing AND i can take all the time i want to explore and get lost for fun :-)
This is literally the same as I do, but most of the time I try to pick the longest missions to get the lost pack or cargo crate.
I love to just explore as i want to, take my time with the mission, it's really relaxing
I really like solo. There’s less pressure to “perform” well because you don’t have to worry about letting your team down. Just you and Bosco hanging out and mining.
Don’t need to feel that fear man I swear
It’s awesome to see player just trying figure stuff out
if it helps most people dont care if you suck and are probably happy to carry

I agree tbh we need more players online 🥲
@CoolSs Its peer to peer. Your latency is how far you are from the host, that isnt something the devs can change unless they had dedicated servers. Which isn't worth it
Honestly we need more players who do this. I also played solo first for awhile with each class. It helps with being independent. Players often get too caught up in their role when only multiplayer.
I played nothing but solo for a month because my internet went out
Oh hey, it’s the “kicked for having fun” guy!

Most of the time I feel lack of scout
@@gorgeousgeorge7104 agreed. But then when I play as scout I really feel the lack of gunners and engineers, triangulation is a nightmare as scout.
If you ever need someone to play with let me know
I usually play solo too, most of the time I only play with randoms when the mission is aquarq hunt or when I want an assignment done quick
This week's is not the most difficult, but it could still be tough to do solo. Second stage is escort, and solo escort isn't much fun imo.
This video is giving Huge uncle dane vibes
I do a ton of solo DRG, before I brought it to my friend group I tested it throughout via solo and still do so these days
If you ever need someone to play let me know
Solo honestly is a lot of fun for me at least.
Sniss, you are the entertainer I listen to when I relax and play solo deeprock before bed. You are my fitMC my man, stay sturdy.
All that solo play with field medic equipped was such a flex
@@joaogomes9405 Bosco can't do anything I can't see.
I always forget, that you dont have the voicelines, so everytime I see mushroom or comp. gold, I still try to get the funny, but then I immidiatly get reminded.
if you're missing them, there is this little known ability to not bring bosco and this is the only reason i can think of as to why thats an option
Congrats on the sponsorship sniss! You’ve come a long way and I’m super happy to see sponsors rolling in!
Rock and Stone!
might be hella random, but i remember playing an online game with you a little while back!! i remember you because you were genuinely the most considerate, skilled and reliable teammate i think ive ever had in this game and i feel like you even slightly changed my perspective on this game in the best possible way :3 enough yapping tho i hope you see this and i hope you have an amazing life

Getting "Bosco, You're the Best" was a hard time for me and DRG, I missed my friends :(
I usually do missions open to public, which stems mostly from my fear of losing a mission due to the host DCing. Sometimes I get to do the full mission myself and sometimes people would just swarm in from the first second
1:54 BULK DETONATOR, LADS! Really drives homes your point on the sounds of the caves...the sounds communicate so much
I play solo all the time.
Also like said in the video, the difficulty scales with the players present, so the game feels more challenging when there's several players as opposed to when there's just you and Bosco, that's another reason I typically like playing coop, cause I like the challenge, seeing just how much I can handle
All in all, the solo experience is definitely more fun than people give it credit for, it's just that coop is a way more fun experience, mainly for me it's just because I get to share the whole experience with everyone I'm playing with.
Been playing for about a week now and have clocked 30 hours completely solo and I’m loving it 5 levels from my first promotion as scout
I know this isn't at all the point of the video but that dwarf impression when you said "Bosco!" Was spot on
Hey man I completely agree, I've kind of forced myself to play DRG solo for a few years mainly because I wanted to focus on college and career, and I couldn't be happier. This game has so much punch and fun to the gameplay when you are the one directing the flow of the game, and with all the over clocks, I've gotten pretty creative on how I kill bugs,
Rock and Stone!
I have 150 hours on record, and I still do not have the "complete 10 solo missions" achievement. I like the coop too much
I played with you once. Saw you had a game going with a spot open, jumped in and stayed for 3 games. Was great fun playing with a youtuber i recognized. :)
I just bought the game..and i mostly playing solo, I'm more comfortable that way, for people like me who doesn't like to mingle with people much, this game is adequate, they pretty much accommodate solo play as much as they can..feel nice so far
Granted it might be harder when playing on higher level, but i can install some mods to compensate it.
Also nice to use one resupply pod or less for the whole mission
Going solo for the first time genuinely taught me so much about how to play DRG it was surprising
Did my first Deep Dive solo at 4 a.m. Last night, Bosco saved my ass on the last stage outside the drop pod. You da goat Bosco!
I used to play this with my friends all the time but as their availability just became less frequent and I started getting frustrated having to wait for them to come online I started playing solo to scratch that itch. Over the last month I've clocked up over 100 hours of play time and completed nearly 200 solo missions (Mostly on Hazard 2-3, cause I'm a p*ssy xD)
I'm actually surprised how much I've started enjoying doing Industrial Sabotage. First time I played one I was like "I never want to do that again" but now I've played through them a dozen times and I've learned the strats I blitz through them. (I still only play them if they come up in an assignment though, they're not my top pick, especially if I'm just level/resource grinding)
I totally sympathise with the having something on in the background sentiment too.
Makes me sad to see all those gold deposits go untouched :(
I've played more solo of DRG than co op because my friends just don't enjoy the game as much as I do, and I don't really see myself getting tired of it.
-You get to really appreciate the atmosphere of the game
-You are the main character and get to do all the things (this goes deeper than carrying, anything that doesn't just involve holding E in this game is not just a chore: building pipelines, gathering minimule legs, hacking robots even depositing aquarq is fun in this game, so it can really suck when teamnates get to them first, it's not anybodys fault but that just makes it even more frustrating)
But cons that keep people from solo once they get a hang of it
-Since you are the only flare producer, the caves are always dark and you will backtrack and get lost a lot. Playing scout is basically a very important QoL feature for solo (oh and Bosco light sucks bad)
-Your greybeard exp might be talking for the difficulty but while hazards are complex they do have their own share of problems, and in solo the difficulty does spike.
I Just love the vibe, youa re not alone :D
keep it up bro!
I needed a game to grind solo for day and also play with the one friend i have for a few hours, i think i found it
Titanfall 2 & Battlefield 1 were a couple multiplayer games I loved to play solo.
Had him join an empty lobby explained how the mechanic worked & how to adjust the sights + "how to aim up without changing the sights"
The enthusiasm and surprise I heard in him made me glad I replied to his angry xbox live message with an offer to teach him how to shoot instead of taunting him more 😅
It was a total big brother instict, first you gotta tease & style on the newbie to show 'em what they lack.... then once that's over and they calm down you teach 'em how to do it themselves 😂❤
Having three younger brothers has definitely influenced my personality that's for sure hahaha
Loved this! Would love more chill commentary videos like this
I have over 2k hours in this game, and the majority of my play time is spent in solo funnily enough, I don't play with randoms unless I feel like it which isn't often, and I only play with my friends when they want to play which also isn't often. This will probably be one of my favorite games for the rest of my life, and I can't wait to see what more the future holds for DRG, Rock and Stone!
i play solo alot, got that 100 missions with bosco before level 80 so that might tell a bit of the story
as far as "ambient sounds" you can often hear a distant/quiet drilling noise, the noise the various pods make when dropping in the game...this is obv deep rock sending other dwarves/supplies/etc. to other dwarven teams, since DRG obv isnt just 4 dwarves and management.
It's really funny that you mention the watching the yt video thing because I was listening to this video while playing solo!!!
as someone who mostly plays deep rock solo (but occasionally with friends) i totally agree on it being chill and not having to worry about other players sometimes lol. in solo you can go at your own pace and you get to make all the decisions so everything you want to get done can get done. having to keep up with people speedrunning through the caves while you'd prefer to look around and people not seeing, or taking ages to harvest, resources you've pinged but can't reach yourself in multiplayer is truly just not a great experience sometimes. also you get the whole resupply pod to yourself, what's not to love about that? bosco does need to learn to protect doretta better and learn to mine a whole ore vein in one go though, grrrrr.
HARD agree on having a video or music up while playing games as well, love doing it but can't do it in multiplayer personally.
man I totally get you, they made solo an awesome standalone experience, managing to make it distinct from multiplayer and a totally manageable fun thing to do on your own, though lately I've been enjoying interacting with the public, I love helping greenbeards out
also goo gun best gun, 10/10 would ooze again, love the skill potential of the weapon and its versatility
It's a whole different thing without people shouting at your ear all the time.
i think a good 90% of my playtime is solo, i just find it nice and relaxing
I completely agree with playing solo helps you learn the game mechanics, me and my friends started playing this game and whenever they weren't online I'd play solo and not even think that multi-player was a thing. I learned a lot of the game solo and eventually when I promoted 2 dwarfs I switched to playing with randoms and it was actually a lot of fun!
I love watching content like FitMC's videos while I eat or clean my room.
I generally reserve solo for days that I absolutely do not feel like being rushed. This latest group of greenbeards seems to be in a rush which is fine most days - but sometimes a guy just wants to scrape every single speck of mineral off the walls and enjoy the quiet. Especially egg hunt missions.
[You need to lower the volume of the game a bit Snis, it's making it a bit hard to pay attention to what you're saying.]
but yeah, I played a lot of solo when I started playing the game.
Why do you not have more followers. Man no homo I love you. Your scripting, your voice, your energy… like it’s so fun and calming. I love you. Keep it up
As someone who mainly plays, Solo missions in drg i can confirm Sniss sums it up quite nicely there is more that could be said but overall great video.
(Instead of saying your lonely say your a solo!😊)
i relate to the whole "subway surfers syndrome"
I cant draw without somethin playing in the back and your videos are background noise for me right now lol
(also u r epic for watching FitMc, rock n' stone brother
I used to play a lot of solo too, i have the achievement for more than 100 solo missions and more under my belt
sometimes it's nice to be on your own
Whenever I have to do point extraction for an assignment, Bosco always gets to stretch his (legs-) arms for a nice and easy Haz 1-2 mission to chill out on
funnily enough you talk about having some other entertainment on the side while playing DRG, I do the exact same, and most times it’s actually your videos, gives me the right amount of soothing and stimulation. Either that or I listen to Magnus Archives or Adeptus Ridiculous
As the achivement says, “You’re the best, Bosco.”
Try solo play as a form of mindfulness meditation.
When walking, walk.
When eating, eat.
When Rock-&-Stoning, Rock & Stone. ⛏️
