What KILLED Tri-Brigade?! | Yu-Gi-Oh TCG

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Sometimes in Yu-Gi-Oh, decks get too strong and get murdered prematurely by a banlist.
Other times they get power crept out of the meta by newer stronger releases.
On today's video, we explore what Obliterated Tri-Brigade, and what it'd need to come back!

If you're interested in a deck list to show what Tri-Brigade could have done if Spright Elf wasn't banned, here's a link:

Also slight correction on Zeus:
Zeus can rank up over _any_ Xyz you control as long as _any_ Xyz (not even one you control) battled that turn. You don't have to rank up on top of the exact Xyz monster you control that attacked.
As long as any xyz battled
@@Denter_g oop thanks, edited
Yeah but it's not like you can summon it on your opponent turn
@@TraaaaaasshBooooaaaatttt I was pointing out the fact that it doesn't have to be your Xyz monster that battled and you don't have to summon Zeus on top of your Xyz monster that battled (if at all).
@@TraaaaaasshBooooaaaatttt don't give Konami ideas lol
Little correction: Tri-brigade actually did start seeing play before Lightning Overdrive released. First off as the Bird Up variant that ended on a protected Barrier Statue with the old Lyrilusc cards. And after that as a pure variant but players simply included 3 Revolt + Trap Trick to search it in their deck which was really funny.
Also free Drident!
I think Tribrigade could be saved with some good spells and traps. Maybe have a Spell or Trap that activates and effect when sent to the graveyard. Or a Spell that lets you link summon by returning monsters from the banished zone and GY into the deck.
Agreed. That link 5 was a terrible card because of the fact that there's no real good spells and traps besides revolt
@@TraaaaaasshBooooaaaatttt well there is rendezvous but it's for destruction protection
You're gonna like Tri-Brigade Roar
It's got one new spell coming in the next set that can send any tri card from deck to gy to get a different effect for whether you sent monster spell or trap, with sending spell making it imperm
Tri brigade already has spell that recovery monsters from graveyard. Plus new spell helps with send monster to graveyard, spell negate, and monster bounce.
I'm so annoyed that Tri-Brigade died off. It was one of my favorite decks to get good at and I did way better than usual. I hope we get a good wave of support soon that brings the deck back into the limelight. Or maybe a new crazy engine.
I still slap people with tri bergade don’t give up
Still playing tri brigade since the release.
The bird version brings the best results for me.
But agree, some new ED toys or a new engine would help.
Archetypes that circumvent the traditional way to summon will always be capable of ressusitation.
Ah yes, the deck I went to a tournament prepared to face, only to find no one was playing it at all. So much for my side deck.
(P.S.: Kit is adorable and deserves more love, regardless of how pretty he sister is.)
I remember Tri being EVERYWHERE and then overnight it was just kinda gone. Artwork is very nice, I'm sure after a bit of game balancing (minus a teir 0 format) we could see them again, for better or worse.
Tri-brigs got outclassed by decks with better support. Bearbrumm while it allowed the deck to search Revolt (the best card in the deck IMO) had a restriction which severely limits the deck's ceiling. I think the deck needs a main deck monster similar to Martha or Circular and a better link 3 target to be competitive.
I think you nailed it. A powerful spell would help too but also might be a little too good.
Then there’s me, currently on Crystal Beast Tri-Brigade at my locals. Gotta stay crystal based 🤙🏻
My man Benny stays winning
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think Drydent at 1 is probably fine. It doesn't do too much trouble on Master Duel. So, that could maybe help Tri-Zoo come back?
I feel the same. Its not nearly as opressive, as it was back then
Ah yes and maybe electrum and VfD in official game as well lol
Masterduel is a completely different format lmao
at this rate put broadbull to 1. idt a card from 2017 is gonna do much anymore
Probably?
Shuraig my beloved :(
Tri-brigade holds a spot in my heart. I got my first OTS Championship in 2021 with the deck. I hope it gets a splashable engine that fits cohesively in the near future!
Tbf the deck was considered to be weak even while it was the number 1 deck. It ruled over a lower power level era
Definitely one of the most beautiful and one of my favorite archetype beside DDD and Sky Striker
Let me cook. Deck is definitely weakened but roar makes bucephalus a legit option again AND it's been a suspicious while since our last tri type archetype. Methinks we're overdue
Bucephalus est really bad, u cant send 3 S/T card in gy first turn so u cant do anything with it, jsute need more support and a link 1 monster
Yeah, as someone who main tri and play a lot of variants casually and competitively, Bucephalus is a really bad card despite it not looking that bad. It competes way too much with accesscode talker as a big monster that can clear opponent's big monsters except you can get into code easier and it would be bigger by going into a link 3 then linking the tri and link 3 with it. The send effect is also better on paper then practice because if you sending it from the extra then you can just send the card and if it is getting sent from the field then it wasn't a good situation to summon it most likely. I don't even think the s/t thing is the main problem with revolt is the best, assault is underrated and roar coming soon. It just actually eats your grave for 5 is kinda a big deal along with just not having a real advantage over accesscode talker. Even outside of accesscode though, Shuraig is just a better card then in it.
@@LightshaverConstellation put 3 ROAR on my deck today and revolt + ROAR so strong
@@ChateeeeonTCG yes roar is actually pretty good and versatile too. And it being an option to get from nearbruum gives some interesting decision as well because if you open revolt now you don't have to shuffle it back to search it, but in the sprite variant. If you are in a combo where you gigantic spright effect last you can get into it from a tri + bearbruum and get of bearbruum to grab roar for another disruption piece without having to rely on space for a live revolt. Roar is just flexible too between all the send targets.
I would say Tri-Brigade scareclaw is a very decent deck, I’ve taken it to many events and even earned an invite to euros with it, not saying it’s the greatest deck ever, just still decent, but not on its own
Why tcg players not playing spright tri?
It was one of the most menacing deck in ocg before they ban elf.
@@r3zaful You are asking why? We had fucking tearlaments
@@r3zafulyou answered your own question. Sucks without elf
@@stiffeification wait
It banned?
I hate how Shuraig's name is a botched transliteration of "Shrike".
Tri-Brigade was one of the first decks I kinda sorta made in Master Duel during the game's first month or so, but I hardly ever used it and I don't really know why. It's one of about a dozen decks I have that I keep telling myself for nearly that I'm going to really finish or revisit, but I definitely can't do that now, since someone had the bright idea to release the goddamn Tears at basically full power. My Dinomorphia and Exosister decks are pretty much the only ones I can play in ranked right now.
And litteraly all you need to be naughty againts Tears is unbanned Wind Statute on Tri-Lyri. Direct attacks, crashing for DMG and many negates all bypass tear graveyard plays.
But then Floos exsist and if wind came back they'd be ruining experience for everyone else...
Tris won't see play until floowanders and tears are banned (so never probs).
@@THELORDVODKA Considering Tear was hit in the TCG and OCG before they arrived in Master Duel and have completely warped the game around themselves since their introduction, I'll be shocked if they don't get addressed. Of course, I don't know why they came in at damn near full power in the first fucking place...
I wish they would give try brigade more support after all they give so much lore to Kitt. They need another boss monster. I love Shuraig's design but 1 banish its not enough per turn.
Revolt was searchable from the link 2
Tri-Brigade was played with Spright in the deck that Top 8 YCS LA two weeks ago.
It's good it's seeing a resurgence, like we said, it's very likely Spright could prop it up. It's sad Spright Elf was hit before we saw it's true potential!
- Adam
I feel like there SHOULD be a playable variant of Tri-Brigade with Albaz, but there isn't, and that's a shame.
There was for about a month, but then Verte got banded
By simply unbanning SImorgh, Bird of Sovereignty, you give Tri-Brigade Lyrilusc a fighting chance to compete in today's meta. With Stormwinds banned, dealing with Simorgh shouldn't be an issue.
Any way you guys could try to interrupt each other a little less? It's kind of hard to follow what each of you are saying when the other keeps commenting in the middle of the other's sentence.... It's a great topic though, which is why I want to hear both of your takes on the archetype 😁
First time watching a video from you guys, gotta say I enjoyed the discussion
duel and tri types are just cool. giving a bit of flexability to archtypes without being fully generic
Seriously tri-brigade is dead? What happened to your new support and your link?
Why do they keep talking over each other🤣. Feels like I'm listening to a couple arguing.
the tri-brigade link5 just needed the line " this card is treated as beas/beast warrior and winged beast every where" and it would have been better.
How does that help lmao?
@@eclipse3479 opens deck upto be able to use all bbw specific s/t cards
Didn't Tri-Spright just get two Top 64s in the most recent North American YCS? And is like Tier 2 relevant as Scareclaw Tri-Brigade in OCG right now?
Unban drident and barrage and trizoo is badass. Playing crush cards version still get me topping at locals. that version ends on a 2 negate appolousa, dragon lords, and herald of the arc light with revolt set, and hopefully handtraps in hand if boss.
Funny to see that 1 week after you released this video there are videos on tri brigade players topping ycs and winning regionals hahaha
Tri-Brigade Spright is good right now and Tri-Brigade has a new power spell about to release that leverages Bucephalus by dumping it from the extra deck for its grave effect.
I play Harpies so I run a Harpie Tri-Brigade deck and I still thoroughly enjoy playing it, just sad that it’s fallen off in popularity
Tri-Brigade's problem is consistency? I thought Tri-Brigade's success was rooted in the fact that makes other Tritype decks more consistent.
Honestly there's only 2 things which made the deck less popular.
1. It couldn't play through the Ishizu shufflers.
2. It doesn't do well against macro effects like what Kashtira puts up.
Now that Ishizu Tear is gone the deck is already seeing a bit more success with the Spright build and once Kashtira gets hit it will be back in full force barring the next format having crazy GY hate as well.
Tribrigade Revolt is like Mathmech Superfactorial at home.
Revolt by itself is better than super fact since it doesn't target the mats and can used banished card but yea mathmech summons the better monster off super fact
@@phoenix5095 In that case Shuraig is Matchmech Laplacian at home. I'm fine with that.
I don’t agree at all with most of these comments asking for new support specifically for the Tri-Brigade deck theme. Historically, Tri-Brigade would shine the most as a supplementary engine for another Tri-type archetype to help the strategy accelerate with easy extra deck access to link monsters and to further extend the end board essentially for free with additional interruption in DDL and/or revolt. If we ever get another above-average tri-type deck theme it’s more or less guaranteed for tri-Brigade to make a return.
Isnt tri still available at least as a rogue deck?
Fire King Tri-Brigade
Me with my bird up and tri-spright: how dare they
But actually. Bearbrumm went from being the great searcher the deck needed to being the problem. Requiring only tri-bridge monsters to make it is a harsh restriction. Its special summon effect from the banish being a -1 is too harsh in the modern meta. And the biggest offense - searching a tri-bridge trap locking you into only special summoning tri-bridge monsters is brutal. It conflicts with lyrilusc in that you can't get ensemblue and revolt. And it conflicts with spright in that you can't extend into something like a red or carrot if you have it at the end of your turn (which if you play 2 reds can happen pretty often)
That, and its extra deck is just so insanely tight.
That said, love the cards. Looking forward to always abusing them when a new BBW archetype is released (or more spright support)
Would love to get an Episode about Orcust!
Been playing melffy tri-brigade since phantom rage. What the deck is missing is a beast link 1.
With zoodiac i loved it hope drident and barage will get to 1 with thyphoon they can out zeus.. think it eill not be soooo broken we will see what konami does in future
The fact that they're fair
I don't think Tri-Brigade is dead. Tri-Brigade Spright topped in the 250th YCS in the US
Konami should really bring back the Simorgh link. Stormwinds is now banned, so it's not even that toxic of a card that sets up a floodgate.
Also, as a Harpie fanatic, I'd really love to try to use it in the TCG for once.
Can still bring out the omninegate but I don't mind Apex as much. Standard control shit.
@@MoldMonkey93bird up now still gets herald of arc light. I guess the only difference is having apex ready again compared to one and done herald.
@@MoldMonkey93 yeah exactly, and I'd much rather have an omni-negate than a floodgate in the game, cuz it's just a 1 for 1 that removes itself from the field
@@MoldMonkey93 your moaning about a negate, would you rather a negate going 2nd or some stupid floodgate i swear ppl dont know whats op
Im building a tri brigade - blackwing deck thats pretty good right now
What tri brigade needs is a GOOD spell and trap negate. It’s easy to get into appo and if you play bird up you have decent bounces but it needs a spell and trap negate. I know spright has one but it’s not the same
New tri brigade spell acts as spell negate in pure builds.
@@agamerjourney9146 doesn’t work as well in pure. I’ve tried it. You can still get trap and spelled even before that. Wtf you gonna do if they evenly you? Activate the spell? It doesn’t work. You need a monster on the field or like a better version
@@marvman9791 clearly you not skilled enough to use it effectively. The spell works best in pure which easy to get link monster on board. Guessing using bullshit build that sucks or not that good enough.
Tribrigade spright just topped the 250th ycs. How is it dead?
Too reliant on normal summon.
They got power crept
Thats exactly why I hated playing them
I like tri spright, it's pretty good
Tri still very good, not hit can definitely win etc..
Hand Traps killed it.
They have to pay cost then you negate. And win.
Honestly verte anaconda ban killed the deck. Branded tri-brigade was the last Hope after bird up was killed. Oh whale
4 months later we get chimera :)
Nothing killed tri-brigade lmfao??
Decks just been waiting for roar.
Your out your mind if you think tri-brigade isn’t good
I think Konami should adds ruling, that cards that can be chained multiple times, snow, Zeus, apo, shouldn't be able to use it's effect multiple times in the same chain IF it's being responded to by a negate.
i think you need to read apo again
Back when i was playing masterduel god i hated Tri-Brigade.
Play Crystal beast tRI-brigade more omnis and free bounces and another one card starter in pegasus love it
do u have any video or dl ?
@Axel Saillard coming soon
Personal i still play tribagate... But not pure i play it together with scareclaw and the adventure engine
It is still a viable deck rn paired with the fire king cards
I just built spright tri brigade in master duel. Pretty underwhelming to be honest. And going second is just an auto death sentence. Might give zoo tri a go but unless some major supports comes soon it’s gonna be dusted
With Barrier wind gone, Tri-Zoo can go turbo summon Apex Avian pass
Ban of apo kinda killed it ngl
I haven't seen the video and I'm already prepared for the most moronic opinion about tri brigade. Surely the answer isn't power creep.
fire formation tenki acctualy unlimited this day
i like the new visas variant
Ah yes, Revolt turbo, the deck
Release Simorgh!
Tri brigade Chimera; Trimera
i just got chimera cards i may have to try this lol. either that or scareclaw tribrigade
Hey i think you underestimate Tribrigade Spright a bit. It got 4th place at YCS LA now. Also there where other tops at all three ycs.
Is that Spright or Tri-Brigades doing though 😈
I agree though it definitely has potential, which is why we think getting people to theorycraft it, is a great idea.
- Adam
Spri-Brigade 🤣
a apoo and a revolt is just not enough now also branded is just tri but better
free simorgh
Zoo back full power and ill never play another arctyple again
Spright brigade doesn't exist i see
Unban Simorgh
IT'S DEAD WOW WHAT A SUPRISE!!!!!!!!! (that true)
Power creep.
Tribrigade was always bad tbh. Just no ceiling to speak of, completely overshadowed by mathmech at this point
i dislike tri-brigade
Im glad its gone. Its simply a stupid deck which has only one play with that trap and summoning and spamming Shuarig. Dont need those decks
ahah haters, i give u the bird up deck and i bet u will loose all ur match, bird up is really hard to play
The lack of a good link 3 killed them.
Banning simorgh was such a bozo move AND how it is still banned now that statue is banned too is beyond me.
Although they aren't unplayable they are easy to beat with more people maining evenly/nibiru and golem/ra.
The deck mixed really good with lusc and harpies but also had some pure variants that did well.
But the final nail in the coffin was the incredibly bad link 5, that makes you wonder how much of an negative iq does the people at konami have.
