Try using a bunch of japanese hot water bags as a heating source. Since you have a jetboil reheating the water would take no time. Might turn out to be a good video!

And today we saw Maverick stick his fingers into an open flame to avoid shutting a camping stove off to ensure minimal time was lost in the cooking process. A true man among boys.
Hunger...can incite one to do desperate things....like reaching into open flame....cooking grits and actually liking them, ' course the fresh shrimp, Z sausage, broth and veggies always help...but as a son of the South, and a recent subber....I'm impressed with Mav's culinary skills...and adaptability....and really happy he didn't become a popsicle during this night!

There’s just something so cozy about Mav’s videos, it’s been really cold where I live this winter and I love bundling up in bed and getting toasty while watching Mav chill in his truck knowing he’s safe and warm and having fun cooking and kicking back, it’s very comforting in these crazy times and a great way to fall asleep!

Mav, instead of using those cans of tomato paste, you may want to consider the tubes of tomato paste, like Cento. That way you can keep it in your truck and don't have to worry about having a 1/2 can of tomato paste leftover.

Make sure you buy used. There's so many that'll buy trucks with it and just take them off and sell them dirt cheap. Or go to a dealer and ask if they have some they'll sell. Sometimes on trade in they take them off if not color matched

Please start off learning from an Experienced person when it comes to Winter outdoor camping and or car camping. This young man Really doesn't have Real Survival skills. Just cuz he plays with snowboarding or skiing doesn't mean he knows How to Survive in frigid weather conditions. I saw that immediately.

In scouts the kids next to us made the decision to have a fire in side their tent. They got out but we never seen them on another camping trip. It took place at the world jamboree in Winnipeg yrs ago

As someone who starts shivering at 60 degrees and full sprints to take the trash out anytime it gets under 60. This is honestly so impressive yes it’s just cold weather but this man dose it for us.

A tip for the grits, add seasoning to the water just as you’re putting the grits in. Whatever seasoning you like. Personally I use the same exact seasoning I’m using for my protein, whatever that may be. Love your vids, my guy! 👍🏼

It could keep your sleeping bag battery pack warm while also giving you some safety in case something was to go wrong during the night. Happy to send you one if you think you could use it! Try buying a US Army Subzero (ECW) Extreme Cold Weather GI sleeping bag.....
You won't have any more cold nights.
They also make 3-pc MSS military bags in which I have....a Gortex Bivy......light sleeping bag and cold sleeping bag...when all snapped together they are rated to -40 below.
Also, clothing to have for those systems you can shop for ECWCS layers......all together you can have some comfortable toasty nights......wicking clothing is key.
I'd say a nice wicking full-face mask is also a good option.
Making some insulation plugs to fit your camper shell windows would help a lot also.......Reflectix comes in a roll.

I feel the same exact way
I have to let you know I've been appreciating these videos where you test heating methods! I'm from Vermont and often wonder about other people's understanding of cold/surviving winter conditions. I know you do, and definitely appreciate it! I have an idea to head south in my Yukon but won't be able to leave till after Christmas but also know I won't be able to make a 12 hr run without a nap. I have concerns about that first night 'cause I know how cold it could be! I also suspect a more traditional heater would be too much! Thank you for testing stuff like this!
It totally amazes me on how many of these camping videos there are. Glamorous camping, stealth camping, camping around the world, renting a moving truck to sleep in. Everyone is shilling a product from vitamins to tires.

Sleeping bags do a good job capturing body heat too. I've slept in tents in winter sleeping bags in 5 below temps and I never needed a heater or electric sleeping bag, all because if you get a good winter sleeping bag, it'll trap your body heat for you to stay warm.
I have lived in Antelope Valley, California my whole life. I’m now 28 and moving to Fargo North Dakota. Always wanted to live someplace smaller. Colder. More opened. Always wanted to do winter camping. Can’t wait to start experiencing that. Me, my wife and 3 kids have one week left here. Then it’s load up, and off to Fargo we go.

Your comment reminds me of me at 22. I lived my life with caution and got super sick. 7 weeks in the hospital, chemo, surgery, steroids… my husband dumped me. I went back to college, learned to ski, moved to Alaska and had a life of adventure. There’s an Eagles song about how we are locked in chains and only we have the key. Find a way to live your life as big as you can! I’m 66 now and a little worse for the wear, but I’m still doing what I can!
The fact that for the first time in my life last night I thought about how an electric heated sleeping bag would be cool because I hadn’t heard of it and just now you mention how you’ll be using one in the first minute of this video.

I found the perfect single mattress that is so comfortable and fits perfectly in the back of my Telluride. with the second row of seats in the third row of seats down and then of course you have rear air conditioning and or heat. Don’t even have to get out of the truck, just climb between the two bucket seats in the front hop in the bed I even run a plug-in fan into the AC outlet because I like the ambient noise. There’s just something cozy about sleeping inside your vehicle like that. Of course I just used it when I pulled over at rest stops and what not but I got some great sleep.

I was going to say I think it's super cool/fun that you make recipes from your followers and you were recommending for us to make the recipe but we don't know what exactly you made. For any of you contemplating doing below-freezing camping, just buy yourself a subzero sleeping bag. Don't experiment with gimmicks like electric sleeping bags, because you may just end up freezing to death or getting seriously sick or frostbitten. Mav is an expert, most of us are not. Videos like this are for entertainment purposes only.
That's for sure! I have a small custom built woodstove in my truck camper. At bedtime I let the coals burn out in the stove and I climb inside a very thick and extremely warm sleeping bag. In the morning it's just a few degrees warmer inside the camper than it is outdoors. All night with no heat can really get cold. Fortunately, it warms up super quickly after firing up the stove. Can't imagine trying to sleep in sub-zero temps without a very good sleeping bag. One can cut corners on some things but that's not one of them. An Oregon nomad 🌲💗🐶🐺💗🌲
