    A good option as a backup for staying warm is a 12v heated travel blanket, they draw around 50 watts. More generally, if you can get 12v versions of all your appliances, that will avoid inverter losses, thus stretching out your battery capacity more.

    I have the same induction burner. It’s great. My AC inverter is only 1200W, so we set the 900W max setting on the burner. BTW, if it is sooo cold, then a gas hot plate’s wasted heat is just helping to heat your van (so the lost energy is useful, meaning the effective efficiency is actually high if you want van heating.) However, the induction doesn’t add a bunch of water vapor inside your van, and it doesn’t burn up any oxygen nor make carbon monoxide, so you’ll be happier and safer. We keep two butane plates in addition to the induction plate. The gas plates are nice outside on the picnic table when camping in nicer weather. For parking flat, I use a bubble level app on my phone. I bought some of those plastic ramps that are the weird curved shape. They are fantastic. I usually level to better than 1 degree slope. It’s also better for our bed. I just got a little 200W ceramic heater for Christmas. Haven’t cold camped yet, but I think it will be nice. My van’s “house” battery is 2500Wh, so I can run it all night if I need to. I bought the heater on Amazon, and because of the positive reviews, I got the one without the tip-over switch on the bottom. It stays way cool on all the sides. Only the front is warm, almost hot, but probably wouldn’t catch things on fire. But regardless, we will be careful to place it where it won’t tip over anyway. So funny that your video matched up to our van stuff so well. Enjoy the new year!!!

    Just to say - there are 200-300 watt personal heaters that you could use with your power station. The heater you tried to use is 1000 plus watts. A smaller wattage heater would give you some heat when the power is off at closed campsites. I’d suggest heating the car up with the motor and then maintaining it with a small 200 watt heater.

    • @TolbersCamping
      @TolbersCamping  Рік тому +17

      I think this heater on low setting is around that, but it would have been freezing in the van at those watts. On a not so cold day low setting would probably be ok, but when it’s -21F and even colder with the wind chill it’s just not enough. I do have a bigger power station coming so this is getting more possible 😁

      He’s running electric appliances. They do not generate CO. The heater running all night was also electric. Only heaters burning combustible fuels such as propane can generate CO, especially when not working right. Low oxygen is also a concern with propane heaters and the like, yet most people don’t know that.

      @@doug7040 True. He might use a Mr. Buddy heater, sometimes. Also, he might use a Honda-type generator for electricity in some situations. I imagine perhaps other youtubers could help you out those that camp and live in the wild perhaps they can give you a small generator "even solar panels for the day" you also need a gun!

    Hi Matt, nice vlog and finding that firepit was a nice bedtime ending to a day. Lucky you on having an electrical hook-up the worked. If you don't mind me throwing out some suggestions, add to your items and extension cord with the higher amp capacity and while running the heater, charge the solar generator at the same time...just in case you need the gen later on. I run a 400w tiny heater off my Jackery 1000 in my Prius and it keeps things at 65f and I wake with 58% charge left. I also changed from a butane stove to an induction stove top. However I keep the stove for emergencies. I caught myself going "I have that" when you used something on camera. Stay well and enjoy life.

    Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

    Neat kitchen setup but that kind of power consumption doesn't work when you are out there for multiple days. I sometimes camp for 3 to 5 day stretches. Thats a really big battery too so the typical smaller battery would be drained in less than 1 night. I cook everything before I go on my trip and then just zap it for a couple minutes and my big battery will last more than a week. I have a disel heater too its the only type of heater with a low enough power draw to run multiple nights. Its nice when I have shore power but I want to be able to camp anywhere even spots without shore power.
