    i find it incredibly satisfying to be in the blistering cold but being warm and protected from it, like when you jump out of the shower when you’re sick, the air and everything is freezing cold but the second you dive under that blanket and start building body heat it’s sooooo satisfying

      Always keep a complete separate set of wool clothes in a dry bag that you change into only when sleeping, that’s the key. Warm / dry your day clothes in the bottom of your sleeping bag at night. Always change back to your “day”-clothes no matter how wet they are and pack away the dry set for next night. You can keep warm by activity during day.

Though not as well known, it's a more difficult race than the more familiar Iditarod. One of his favorite nights was spent on top of a mountain, windy with a temperature of -55C. He had no tent but put his sleeping bag on top of a caribou hide and was quite warm.

    So much great TV on the various channels we have here in the UK, but....... here I am watching you Xander on a chilly friday night in the North West UK, our first frost of the coming winter happened last night and I am so envious of the great playgrounds you have access to, but happy to experience them here on your channel. Love the edit, the simple approach to producing your content, easy and so enjoyable to watch so I hit the SUB button. Thanks for sharing.

    Wonder how many of these bushcraft/survival channels are on UA-cam? Seems like thousands, so I wonder if it's an audience who is living vicariously through these influencers? Or, are there that many people who like to camp without much shelter to prove yourself against the wilderness? Either way, it's fascinating.

    You should invest in a Warn bumper hitch winch set up so you can use it off the front and rear of your truck. Just add a 2” receiver under the front bumper and wire 1 or 2 gauge to quick connect plugs.
    The second tree you cut (at the second campsite 18:45) that almost took your face off, was a textbook ‘barber chair’ break. Kills more loggers than jealous husbands 😎

    How's it going Xander, watched all your videos and love every single one of them. I really appreciate all the effort you put into your videos and I have learned a lot not just about surviving in the wild but learning to love and appreciate nature and freedom. I was born and raised on a beautiful small tropical island called Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands and have since moved to Seattle, WA here in the United States in 2005 when I was 11 years old. Years later and I have been depressed and still struggle with Big City Living with all the craziness going on in the world, but your videos remind me of the happiness and love for being outdoors and connecting with nature as I did when I was a little boy. Thanks A lot Xander and its all starting to make sense now lol I know I might sound a little crazy, but Nature Really does help heal the mind.

      Я за сутки сбросил 4 килограмма, хотя не почувствовал уж слишком усталым, просто шёл от электрички (координаты 60.126679, 31.065806) 3 км до лагеря с рюкзаком 27 килограмм и обратно и ходил весь день по берегу собирая кирпичи.
      Был вот тут, координаты 60.175924, 30.989597 живу в городе Санкт-Петербург.

    Tip for winter camping (from someone thats been in the military in the north): try to wear as little clothes inside the sleeping bag as possible. I see youre wearing multiple layers which dont really work with the bag. Just wear a slim base layer and let the sleeping bag do its work, you dont need your jacket inside it

    • @frankhunt5018
      @frankhunt5018 10 місяців тому +2

      Xander, please try this; this would be interesting experiment on back to back nights with the same bag and similar temperatures.

    • @Oemssi
      @Oemssi 10 місяців тому +1

      That is counter intuitive and against the laws of physics. If you want to be warmer, you want more layers, not less. The sleeping bag is just another layer of insulation, similar to clothing. Your advice would be good, if you just wanted to warm up the sleeping bag for some reason, but that's not the point. The point is to stay warm yourself.
      I do agree that in those temps, with the new bag he should be just fine in only base layer.

    • @Dexter00000
      @Dexter00000 10 місяців тому

      @@Oemssibut this is what you can also find in lots of videos as well as sleeping bag manuals - wear a base layer, warm yourself before entering the sleeping bag (eg. by tightening your muscles) and if needed, use a chemical warmers or a bottle with hot water. They do not advise multiple layers cause you will sweat = produce moisture = get wet = get cold 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @Oemssi
      @Oemssi 10 місяців тому

      Yeah, all that is good advice. If you wear too many layers and start to sweat, that is not good for the insulating properties of the sleeping bag. But still, the principle more layers = more warmth applies. If you do all that and are still cold, more layers will provide more warmth, not less.@@Dexter00000

    Imo the fjällräven polar -30 bag is superior in design to this. The fur covering the face area is really amazing for stopping the wind getting in. And also cheaper (in Sweden at least) 1420 of 800fp vs 1050 900fp in size large. So id imagine the theoretical warmth to be similar. But as you say, if the baffles suck then that will diminish any perceived benefits from the higher quality down. I'd highly recommend the fjällräven sack. I've used it here in northern Sweden down to minus 38 paired with an exped dura 6 and some foam mats under the open sky with light wind. I've also heard good things about the thermarest polar ranger.

      Вы думаете он сам выбирает себе спальники? Т.к. он популярен, его заметила именно эта фирма и решила подарить или дать на прокат этот спальник, чтобы он его прорекламировал (в описании только одна ссылка и только на этот спальник. Во многих других видео он оставляет ссылки на всё своё снаряжение, а когда ролик рекламный, он как правило оставляет только спонсорскую ссылку. Учитесь думать головой!). Конечно если сам ксандер или его друзья намекнут ему именно про спальник лисы, то если он напишет им, возможно они ему его предоставят, но какие будут условия (по договору только хвалить марку, иначе не дадут спальник и т.д.) не известно! Одно понятно, что он это не покупал и поэтому не стоит так критично относиться к его тесту и претензиям. У него есть свои личные спальники "mec" летний и зимний. У него куча спонсорской снаряги, водолазный костюм "six level", очки и т.д.
