The music of freedom to express yourself… I saw a Jerry Lee Lewis concert, I had it recorded on VHS tape, where at the end he cuts his piano with an ax and gives out sticks, splinters and rattles from the piano to the ecstatic audience. But it's not on UA-cam unfortunately, otherwise I would have played it, it was a great show. As they say nothing new under the sun. This man had incredible energy, it's safe to say that he pushed rock a lot further in its development.
no "light show" no idiotic costumes....no jerk off stadium....just a KILLER performance right in the face of the audience just GIGANTIC amounts of energy and talent like a blowtorch setting the house on fire....
Jerry Lee Lewis, 87, is now Rock'n up in Heaven. He passed away today Oct. 28, 2022. No one could sing it like he could, he did it, he lived a hell of a life, applause for Jerry Lee!
In the 1970s saw a concert with Eric Clapto, B.B.King and since Clapton's regular guitar backup was out sick Rick Derringer was filling in. They played all their scheduled sets. The said, If you guys hang around for 30 minutes we'll be back to jam. They jammed for a little over an hour. Everything from B.B.'s early hits to 70's stuff without a break. Was great hearing those 3 masters playing with and against each other.
I have been looking for this program for years.I watched it on a small B&W TV at my Mothers. Saw him at Liverpool, He came into the pub, I was in. What a miserable Big- Head he was.Did not speak to anyone.
as i remember it was the beatles who brought him back after all the bad stuff he had in england.. i was amazed. didn't really know what r&r was until i saw/heard jerry lee.
Well ... Back in 1964 hé was allready out dated..... British invasion was happening. New music and raising the bar sky high. Killer to me is the real authentic original motherhoppin piano raping rocker with little Richard and good old Fats ! What about Chuck? Everyone imitaties him even the Beatles. They were way showers for next originals
If you look closely in those few moments when you can actually see Jerry Lee's backup band, you can glimpse a 19-yr-old guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, a mere four years away from co-founding Deep Purple.
At the risk at sounding like one of them old duffers - but has music ever been so visceral, intoxicating, relevant and REAL as it was in the late 50 / early 60s? Look at the footage of the audience surrounding him on the piano, they are in complete ecstasy
Today fans face barriers, a 6 foot stage and legions of security. Incredible how the fans are right on top of him. What a performer. R.I.P. Jerry Lewis.

@@thescarletandgrey2505 I don't think Elton could play the piano backwards, upside down or with his feet and also as much as I respect him, hasn't got an ounce of Jerry Lee's sex appeal, quirky rebeliousness and charisma.

Easily his best live record. Believe it or not, Jerry was considered a has been by this point, and as a result, he entered into the most incredibly potent part of his career as a result of it. What a performance from "The Killer" himself! I think a lot of the moribund artists around today could learn a lot from a careful study of this video. This is how to ENTERTAIN!
My favorite entertainer of all time. Given that he has passed and I'm in my 70's, it will stay that way. There's nothing out there these days that even comes close so I feel I have experienced the best of all time.
What makes me the happiest about Jerry Lee is knowing he made it right with Jesus before he passed on. Btw so did his cousin Mickey Gilley before he passed on. I will see you on the other side "Killer!"
If I were 50 years younger, and could play piano, I could get rich giving performances in imitation of Jerry Lee. In no way comparing with the reality.
I saw Jerry Lee in concert in Chattanooga Tn.I was 14 yrs old. What a concert.what I got to see of it. My older cousin took her younger brother and sister and me . When Jerry Lee started throwing his coat tie etc out to the fans.my cousin jumped up and yelled. When you get to your drawers I want them. Lol. That was the end of concert for us. My older cousin made us leave. I guess it embarrassed her.lol we did see most of the concert though a d Jerry Lee was awesome
This is so awesome to see - the kids ripping it up with a foot of Jerry Lee, but not threatening or hurting him in any way. Just having fun and the energy bouncing off of each other. That's what rock n roll was really all about when it came out. Rock n roll started out as music for the hard working, lower and middle class of America - which means the vast majority of us. Look at all the early performances of the founders of rock - they all had crazy fans trying to tear them apart, but they encouraged it. Ray Charles told the cops to let the kids get up on his stage and dance when he heard them yelling at the kids to get off. Rock was meant for the people. The stars were not privileged white rich people - they all came from the working class too, so they got it. Then when Beatle mania happened, and the guys were getting death threats and physically beaten and people cutting their hair or clothing articles off, going way too far, that's when rock stars started needing armed security. Then complete separation and isolation from the fans on stage. Then only the super rich can afford front row seats to a rock concert. That's what we have today, because kids couldn't simply do as you see here: get down with the singer without becoming a scary mob.
As a kid listining to my AM radio his songs would come on and you could just tell him and his band could do it all. His singing will live on, his keyboard playing is what Rock and Roll is all about, his country living was tough and his music was as tough. He was the last of the original 4. Jerry Lee gave us what the band and his keyboard playing helps us to aspire to be like him.
Damn right. The best live album ever, hands down. It's never been matched for sheer energy and raw intensity. Whatever kind of music you are into, this is an unmissable gem of a LP. RIP Killer.
I must have been 4-5 years old when me and my Dad and sister watched this on the Disney Channel around '89/'90. As a kid I was blown away and I still am now.

I saw Mr. Lewis and Fats Domino at Bumbershoot during r&r hall of fame celebration tour. They put on an unforgettable show. Nobody could pump a piano like Jerry Lee Lewis.
This is the best version of you win again I have ever heard. Jerry Lee torn it up. I'm ashamed to say I have really never been into him until about 2 months ago & now I'm obsessed with him & his music. My Lord the way he hits those keys Is out of this world. IT'S SO GREAT I CAN'T STOP WATCHING HIM .
I remember as a kid in Oregon, 5th grade, 75 now, my mom and dad would have mild parties and hearing "you win again," and didn't know it was Jerry Lee, we were into Elvis us kids were and Jerry Lee was Country until we heard Great Balls of Fire! Even as an adult we didn't make the connection until he passed away.

The best I ever seen!, I listen to "his own story" and the chapter when he has that gig. "They loved me" he said. and he was right. 😅
this is amazing, so raw and primal. nobody played the piano like that before, or after him.
R.I.P. Jerry, you were the rock and roll.
The look on those kids faces says it all.
He sure could make a piano talk!!🎹Rest In Peace,Jerry Lee Lewis.😔🎤
