I met this guy once he was sitting on the floor in an NYC apartment smoking some high test weed.He rhapsodized about Led Zep.Friendly happy kind of humble, was playing at Sweet Basils some old jazz haunt.

When they returned to the studio mesmerized by Buckley's set, Yorke sang the song twice before breaking down into tears."

I'm from Memphis and I never got why would someone go swimming in the Mississippi River? That's just disgusting. But I greatly respect this guy's talent.
It was a steamy hot night and Jeff probably just needed to have a good time and blow off some steam. His boom box was blaring. But from what I've heard several people had also drowned in that same spot over the years. A tug boat came through and the wake was strong enough to pull him under. Terrible tragedy.
It was a fateful afternoon when I went about shopping at a couple of yard sales in that summer of 2009 when I picked up the Audio Cd of My Sweetheart The Drunk... And here I am in this (thus far not that great but deep down better) year revisiting the beauty that is Monsieur Buckley... Cheers!
No limits to what he could have achieved. Born to it .. You should take a listen to a song Glen Hansard wrote for Jeff [They were good pals] called 'Neeth the beeches' .. an absolute knock out of a song.
About 4:30 you see the work of Ralph Steadman, he done some great illustrations for Hunter S. Thompson also. Hmmm that man may be the angel of death (shhmurf me).
You know Patrick.. Thats just Pathetic!! It ISNT Jeffs fault. he was a KILLER, Singer, Songwriter, Composer ECT. Those of us who loved and Still love Jeff Are Amazing, we get it dont we :) Only a true person can hold and captivate and audience like he did. R.I.P.Angel
Patrick Bateman True that ... actually Buckley covered an old Leonard Cohen song (he wrote it) ... and it was covered again by an American Idol singer. That is really sad.
Yup, the music industry is pathetic now. The "singing" reality shows have killed what we all knew as the industry. Now it's the latest singer deemed winner and the producers in hollywood that have all the music and lyrics written for them.
I to me him once in 94' in an instore in Austin @ Waterloo, I was kinda starstruck it couldn't of been more then 60 seconds when about 50 college and high chicks surrounded us and that was that., separated, he was very cool and funny tho. I had just heard Grace and didn't know what to make of it, but I knew I liked it better then grunge.
I love Jeff Buckley a lot, but you should have mentioned at least that the Gods and Monster band was found by Gary Lucas and he came in later. I think he deserve to be mentioned sometimes, after all he discovered him, somehow..
Odd, why? He decided to be spontaneous and go for a swim fully dressed including heavy boots. A large boat went by ,the undertow sucked him further in and he couldn't swim out of it. Nothing odd about it. Odd would have been him drowning on dry land perhaps.
I’ll never understand why he went in fully dressed, heavy boots and all. Maybe he didn’t swim often? I swam competetively for 3 years as a teen and they wouldn’t let us have our LONG HAIR down, had to be in a swim cap (which hurt like hell, all pinchy and shit,) to reduce drag. But he walks into the river fully clothed?? That’s the part that strikes me as odd.
Jesus Christ! No matter how many videos I watch about his life, I can usually hold it together pretty well. And then they get to the part where I hear 0.000001 seconds of hallelujah and I blubber like a Goddamn little bitch.
MarsRevival Chris Cornell and Jeff were very close...Listen to CCs album Euphoria morning and you will understand just how much they influenced eachother...
Jeff Buckley doesn't hold a candle to his dad . Radiohead really sucks. The best artists are early The Replacements, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, The Kinks, The Move, The Beatles except for their poor last two records that everyone love, Arthur Lee (forever changes), Graham Parker and the Rumor, and early E Costello before his crooner times.
His voice is so beautiful and angelic that I never get tired of hearing it. He's one of my favourite artists along with the Beatles and Elvis Presley

Brett Smith wow that is amazing how lucky for you.
Nice person,
Brett Smith cool !
Should cherish that, I would die to have met this amazing man
I am convinced he was some kind of tragic angel, do you think he knew it would end soon? I think he did.
Such a lovely mysterious man who died so young and pure, I'll always miss him despite him dying years before I was even born.
RIP Jeff Buckley. You were a legend.
Rest in Peace, you beautiful soul
He's in my top 3 vocalists ever...
Who are your other two? I got chris Cornell in my top 3 along with Buckley and Freddie
@@mattreynolds110 same two actually
@@mattreynolds110Chris Cornell too?! That’s awesome
He was so different, it's so sad that he died so young and with his musical career just starting :( RIP
radiohead were influenced heavily by him :) they went to one of his gigs in london and then decided to record straight after
If I remember correctly, right after that concert they went on to record Fake Plastic Trees and when they finished Thom Yorke started crying
Just discovered him today.Lived off grid all those years. And..his first vocals here..made me think the same thing...
Indeed they did. The story goes..."The band were finding it difficult to finalize the tracking/composition of "Fake Plastic Trees" and decided to attend a solo Jeff Buckley concert on Highbury. @@MisterVertigo where’s that Highbury?
Jeff had a beautiful Angelic Face and will be forever young. x x x
Excellent singer.
No words, incredibly talented.
Best artist ever

I always wonder what amazing music we would have got if he didn't die so young.
I know you said this 2 years ago, but it still kills me…
“He was a mystery white boy” HAHA
He had a beautiful voice awesome young man. Good Way Too Soon. 🙏🏽🕊♥️🌹♥️
He was simply Ahmaazzzing.
Chris Cornell and Jeff were bffs...CC lost so many friends from his youth...its gotta weigh on you ya know....
Where did you find that out ?
I know that Chris liked his voice, but I never heard of them being friends, much less best friends.
@@sarcasticallyrearranged Chris even has a song about Jeff, look it up: "Wave Goodbye"
No this is not true..stop starting rumours
Sad lose fur damn sure great musician will always be d glad to have what he gave us 👍❤️☮️
Is everyone waiting for the rtx3070 release like me?

Now it's 23 years of his passing
23 now....the sadness for his death is still there...
I'm from Memphis and I never got why would someone go swimming in the Mississippi River? That's just disgusting. But I greatly respect this guy's talent.
Probably just did it because he could.
there was a group of them swimming around a kind of sandy beach when he swam out to far and was swept under a boat
It was a steamy hot night and Jeff probably just needed to have a good time and blow off some steam. His boom box was blaring. But from what I've heard several people had also drowned in that same spot over the years. A tug boat came through and the wake was strong enough to pull him under. Terrible tragedy.
Heidi C. Franks thanks for sharing your story
He swam in Wolf River tributary. But I'm sure no less gross.

it's so sad to think about that he died before he even was at the top. I mean think what this guy could have done if he would not be dead
Think of what he's doing now...
@@jenniemalloy7402 exactly
He would’ve had a long career like a Dylan or Springsteen…Too sad…😢
He was so awesome and what a sweet guy!

Why isn't he as famous as James Dean? He should be
Haha yea I always thought that Jeff Buckley looked like a weird combination of James Dean and James Franco

No mention of his brief relationship with Elizabeth Frasier or the demo they recorded. 👎🏾
Yep accidentally drowning sounds legit
I have a hard time listening to the music of artists who died horrible deaths like Eliot Smith, Minutemen and this guy...
