Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 бер 2022
- I rented a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machine. in 3 hours, we cleaned the Dining room, Entry way and family room. We definitely noticed an improvement to our carpets, see for yourself with a comparison at the end of the video. I'll show you the steps and techniques to get your carpets looking new or at least better.
Tools and Items needed, a carpet cleaning vacuum, a regular dry vacuum, a bucket or gallon jug, a measuring cup, and carpet cleaning solution.
Here is a link to purchase a Rug Doctor:

Thank you for really great video and tips , it's really helpful. Do you know if this can be used on carpet stairs as well ??
Thank you. There is an upholstery attachment that may work on stairs. Some places rent a carpet cleaner specifically for stairs. We don’t have stairs so I have no idea how well they work.
I just rented the attachment with it. It works great, and it is long enough that I didn’t have to carry it down the stairs to continue using it.
I just cleaned the carpets in my rental home and the hallway carpeting and living room carpet had urine stains that had dried out from previous renters who had 3 big dogs. I was afraid I would have to replace the carpet but believe it or not I applied a Rug Doctor stain remover the night before I did the carpet cleaning and the stains all came out--really saved me some money and I did not have to replace any of the carpets!
Thanks for sharing, it’s great hearing success stories.
Using a sprayer to first apply cleaning solution to area to be cleaned, then use the machines brush roll to agitate.
Now you can use plain water to rinse, and clean.
I've heard that is a good way to do it. Maybe I'll do that next time.
Thanks for the tip.
Or just, you know, do a regular pass with solution and then a second pass with clean water, like a normal person.
No, as a professional acarpet cleaner the person is right, but even that being said these carpets are still FILTHY. I wouldn't recommend this. @@Jukeboxer11
@scottmctaggart8769 a "normal person's" way as you call it will still leave waaay too much soap in the carpet. The pros can tell which ones were diy cleaned just for that fact.
The way mentioned here in the tread is how the pros actually do it.
Thanks for this informative video im doing this tomorrow I haven’t clean my carpet in years
Good luck!
just a quick tip on bringing back that fluffy carpet after your furniture has been sitting on it for a while. If you have an ironer place a towel over those compressed spots and iron it over the towel until your carpet bounces back to like new. Your welcome
Thanks for the tip
What setting should I the iron be on, high medium or low???
I came to see about carpet cleaning. I checked in on who was telling me about cleaning the carpet, and accidentally found a good home improvement channel!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying the videos.
@@BruBuilds well, honestly, I haven't watched any others, YET. You seemed humorous and good natured with explaining the job to people that don't know. Even something simple like this, you helped me do a friend's carpet better than I would have if I were guessing.
I appreciate that, thanks
part II, how to disinfect your kitchen sink LOL. good video
Hahaha, Oops. Thanks
Hilarious 😆
Dirty water down toilet, not in kitchen sink :)
I guess you didn’t watch the whole video….I did correct my dirty ways. 😅
@@kathypym7900 Yup. Seems like we all learn that one the hard way.
thank you from Turkey
Glad you enjoyed the video
Great and clear instructions!
Glad it was helpful!
Just hired one of these and split the 2 days with my friend. Amazing machine.
Also your editing skills are great!
Thanks, glad it worked for you.
Ive never seen such editing skill from a DIY. Iol
Haha, I’ve been editing almost as long as I’ve been doing DIY stuff.
Brutal. I’m just gonna call a carpet cleaner.
It wasn't that bad, let us know how the cleaning goes.
thanks for the video.. would have been even better if you posted a before and after picture simaltaneously for comparison.
There is a short before and after video comparison at the end that shows a difference. One of my first videos, a wide shot would have been better. One of these days I'll do a follow up video and rent a different carpet cleaner for a comparison as well. Thanks for the comment.
@@BruBuilds thanks.
Nice video. Any chance you could do a similar video with the larger unit form homedepot? It call the k’a’rcher professional carpet cleaner.
I’ll probably rent one from Lowe’s in the next month or two and see how that one works.
One good tip slow down a little more let the machine do the work and it would be alot less going back and forth and water also.but besides that looks great man👍👍
Thank you for the tip. I'll do that next time.
Thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the video, great explanation. How much of an effort it is really per room? I need to get carpets cleaned for 3 bedrooms on the upper level, and the entire basement of around 800 sq ft, and 4 flights of stairs that are carpeted. I'm thinking one day should be enough?
You should be able to do that in one full day, I rented it for 4 hours and cleaned 2 rooms and an entry way. Stairs are probable time consuming. Also, if you have to move furniture around to do each room that will wear you out. Have some help and make sure to pre-vacuum.
Looks good
Thanks
how many years hadd it been since you last cleaned them. doesn't look too bad. I never had our carpet cleaned, except professionally when we moved in. we dont wear shoes into the house, leaving it at the entry area upon arrival. however i know dust and grime gets into our tile floors. I plan to rent these too. it's fast and so worth it. how many passes did you do per room. and how many rooms did 1 solution last? i guess it depends on how dirty the carpet is also. Are there some greener chemicals to use. And finally, how dry is the carpet after you're done? When we had ours professionally done, our carpet was sooo damp , we had to stay at a hotel for 1-2 nights. Thanks for sharing.
@SeekerFitness It had been well over 5 years. There are just some places that start to show the dirt over time. I'll think I do mine again this spring...Maybe. I did 2-3 passes on the high traffic areas, pretty much cleaned until the solution rain out. I'm guessing you could clean 800-1000 sq ft with one pass to a bottle of the cleaning solution. I would ask where you rent it about an environmentally friendly cleaning solution. The main complaint I hear about rental machines is they leave the carpet wet. With mine, most of it dried to the touch in a few hours, but the places that I worked a few times required a fan to help it dry overnight. You want to move the vacuum slowly to pick back up as much water as possible. Low humidity and warmer temperatures will help with the drying time.
Have fun cleaning!
Looks good,thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
@@BruBuilds 😊
Would it work on a rug with a raised pattern, about 1/4 inch thick? Or would the pattern interfere with the suction? The worst dirt is in the gaps between the pattern.
I’ve watch other videos where they cleaned rugs, but I personally don’t have any experience with cleaning a thick rug. Most pro carpet cleaners complain that these type of units don’t have very good suction power. I imagine it may struggle with a raised pattern. If you have regular carpets to clean as well it may be worth a try.
I spent two days looking at videos all day to make informed decisions and also went out to Home Depot. I was looking at the floor cleaners the eagle brand doesn’t even wanna know if the eagle brand floor cleaners can go on carpet…. The kid at Home Depot wasn’t sure. Because if it does I’m thinking of renting the steamer first to do my tile floors in the dining room living room and kitchen (original owners thought it was cute to have white tile floors with gray pattern) . Then the subsequent week I plan to rent the carpet cleaner to do the rooms. Since we haven’t had our carpets cleaned for a while would doing the steam be better to get it prepped and cleaner before we run it through a carpet cleaner?
I'm not sure what would happen if you tried steaming you carpets with one of those machines. I guess if you rent one you could try a little test section and see how it works.
Was the carpet wet after you finished? if so how long did it take for it to get dried
Yes, the carpet is damp and did take a few hours to dry. We left it to dry overnight.
I think that is why they recommend just doing one pass. We put some fans on some of the very wet spots to help with drying.
@@BruBuilds thank you
I might need to have a home demonstration 😬
I’m sure that can be arranged somehow.
Can this clean the carpet where you have rugs in that area or even plastic? So after the plastic was removed you can use this to bring life back to your caret in that area
Not sure how well it would fluff carpet that had been mated down by plastic or a rug. In our case I could still see the high traffic areas, but they did look better.
Why would you add the soap last? PUT SOAP IN FIRST THEN ADD WATER OR MIX IN A BUCKET THEN POUR IN. You cleaned most of the carpet with water..
suggest that you dump the dirty water in the toilet
I guess you didn't watch the whole video. I did end up using the toilet.
were you able to get into the corners and right up against the walls with this?
Running it along the wall the brush can get to about 1” from the wall and corners.
@@BruBuilds thanks!
When it runs black now you know it was past due. I have used my machine to make money and I have seen mud come from it.
It had been a few years since the last time.
Can I put a little vinegar in it too to disinfect and deodorize my carpet??
And will I have to clean out the tank before bringing it back if I worry about pet hair and stuff??
I have heard of some people using vinegar to help clean carpets, but I haven't tried it. I would ask the place you rent it from. You will need to clean the unit before returning it, use a regular vacuum first to help pick up all the pet hair.
Would this fit upright in a honda civic
I'm not sure, but you should be able to lay it down without leaking water. It might fit in the passenger seat.
What about the anti foam solution ???
I haven’t tried that.
I just found out that only the red ones are supposed to be used for rentals😂 I didn’t know that was a thing
Well, that's interesting. It says "Rental" on the tank? I wonder if there is a difference.
I'm tiny is this heavy to push back and forth ?
You tilt it back to move it forward than pull back and drag it across the carpet to clean. One pass to spray the water then another pass or two to suck up the water. If you are wanting to clean a large area, you will start to feel it physically. Bissell (Big Green) makes one that you can rent that you don't have to tilt back to move it forward, but I haven't used one. I'll rent one of those next time I need to clean my carpets (which is soon) and see how it compares. Lowes rents the Bissell and Home Depot rents the Rug Doctor.
Does it get rid of dog smell?
I'm sure it would help some, but probable depends on how bad of a dog smell. We haven't had a dog for a while. I've heard some people spray watered down cleaning solution on first with a garden sprayer, let it soak in some, then just use warm water with the Rug Doctor. That might work better for odors.
Does the carpet feel wet at all after words
Yes, most of it dried overnight. We did put a fan on some of the area to help with drying.
Fancy get-away car! :)
Thanks
I suggest emptying dirty water in toilet, not the kitchen sink.
I realized that after dumping it the first time. I did redeem myself later in the video. Thanks for watching.
How long does it take to dry
We let it dry overnight, some spots were still a little damp so we put some fans on those area’s
👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks
Please I need it, how can I get it to Nigerian ...
Sorry, can’t help with that.
you did not explaine how to operate the machine , red button...etc
What red button? lol. Yes, I didn't get into too much detail on the operation of the machine in this video, I was trying to show more of an overview of what is involved. I did mention the operational instructions are on the machine. Next time I clean my carpets I'll try a few techniques that others have suggested. Thanks @Azzieb
CAN YOU GUYS STOP WITH MUSIC!!!!
As a professional carpet and rug cleaner I can honestly say that this video is the best on UA-cam for showing you how 'NOT' to clean a carpet. Sorry, but this video offers the worst advice ever. Never listen to amateurs.
Wow thanks, the best video on UA-cam! Not sure if you are saying I was using it wrong, or you don't like these type of carpet cleaners. You can come and do a "professional cleaning" for me if you like.
I was waiting for him to pull out a CRB machine, test the PH of stains, pre-spray traffic lanes and follow up with an all fiber rinse. 😀
What is the right way then?
I do agree with Will. I went to look for this kind of videos after another call today to help sorting out issues after customer's wet carpet and smells awful and beyond.
So the what do you suggest professional carpet cleaner? 🤨
Still going way to fast sorry
Thanks, I’ve had a couple people mention that.
🇬🇧❤️
Thanks
