How well does the Big Green dry the carpet? I’d like to know more about its performance when it comes to “dry only” (or, perhaps said another way: “time it takes from cleaning to drying” given enough effort)

This is one of the reasons I decided to go the step up to a commercial machine. We have small animals and do a lot of cleanup. Trusting that a machine was going to be solid and reliable for years and could be fixed if necessary was a big factor in buying a Big Green Machine.

I considered buying a carpet cleaner some years ago, but the numerous reviews that said they broke in short order and that repair parts were not available, swayed me against buying vs renting. Don't want to throw away my $. I'll have to take a look here, and re-evaluate whether repairability is a feature of any of these.

I had a very successful janitorial business for 16 yrs (got bored of it). I used the dry carpet method which is a 20-inch brush and a carpet pad in the middle the brush scrubs and the pad deposits the solution and picks it back up.
one thing I learned is to use a solution that leaves no residue that will attract dirt (I left some in a lid and let it dry out and felt what was left) My solution ratio was the solution and 1 gallon of clear ammonia (you have to get used to the smell or use less, it WILL go away after about an hour) but ammonia is an excellent cleaner, leaves no residue and dries quickly

OK... the easiest ones to clean are the Hoover mid size like the turbo scrub, power scrub, elites etc.. I mean, everything comes off (even the front lens).. the dirty water tank opens up...the only thing on the machine itself that gets dirty that won't come off is the screen, which can be easily cleaned...even the brushes on the bottom pop off and come apart for cleaning..But with these you have to make sure everything is dry before storing it away...put all the parts and the machine in front of a fan to blow dry... Also, I feel like out of all the home carpet cleaners, these have the best extraction.

Somebody else commented about the Hoover
So I figured I'd compare my experience, borrowing my friend's Bissell 2X ProHeat Pet Pro!
Since I borrowed it, I had to clean it thoroughly before returning it. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, one of each that constantly blows their coat. One dog was sick and throwing up everywhere (he has Addison's disease and were just about to find out! He's doing very well, completely back to "normal," with regular treatments ♡) so we had to borrow the machine.
If the cats throw up anywhere, it's gonna be my nice rug, so I figured I'd wash that at the same time, and they like to lounge around there and on the bedroom floor (where a majority of the sickness took place, poor pup)
      So
      Much
      Hair
I'd wished I could have vacuumed first, there was so much
However, as far as I'm aware, I was able to remove all parts of the machine that interacted with the outside (meaning picked up anything from the floor). I did get Super Soaked ™️, figuring out *how* to clean all the parts, and if I didn't have my nice new faucet with super good pressure (re: Super Soaked ™️) I *may* have required a pipe cleaner to help with a clump of hair that got stuck in the front, but it came out fine once I figured it out. All-in-all, I'm pretty sure everything can be removed and cleaned nicely ♡

My house has been a rental for at least 12 years and the carpets had not been replaced even before it became a rental so what should have been blue carpets are mostly getting grey/brown. I rented a rug doctor over a year ago and it barely got the dirt up (it was a slightly different style than these but still a rug doctor and the best they had available at Bunnings) and it was very, very hard work to get what dirt up that I did. My best friend got a Bissell revolution pet and she did my entrance hall which was easily the grossest part of the house, with just hot water it positively ate the dirt, for a 3m2 area it took two clean water tanks and 3 dirty to get the carpet almost ✨ sparkling ✨. I was amazed at just how much dirt came up and how easy it was to use. I will never rent a carpet cleaner again, instead I bought a Bissell revolution pet of my own, it hasn't gotten here yet but I am so hyped!

    • @Wingnut353
      @Wingnut353 2 роки тому +7

@@MrTokyoUbaYokai Dude... if the Bissell works.. why waste money on a pro. Pro cleaning isn't significantly different than what a midrange carpet cleaner does... just someone else does it. Also if it worked well without any detergents that means less will get attracted to the carpet later (many pro services use detergents and if they aren't carefully removed they'll attract even more dirt than before).
Probably getting a powerwash elite myself as it is on sale at home depot for like $120... can't beat that. And it has the spinning brushes rather than rotating ones so should be easier on any longer carpets I may use it on.

Great video and comparison. thanks for your effort. I like the tried and true Rug Doctor for a simple reason - larger water tanks. While I have used them to clean houses, I typically rent to clean cars. Most people would never ride in their car again is they saw the amount of dirt that comes out of their seats. They would never believe their carpets. I will go through 20 tank refills easily and often as much as 30. So a smaller tank cleaner could double that easily.
For those who think it is silly, the typical clean, well-cared-for used car I have purchased and cleaned has somewhere around 70,000 to 100,000 miles on it. I can expect the first 7 tanks to look like the Mississippi River. On the clear vacuum handheld attachments, it looks like you are sucking coffee out of the seats usually. These are cars that the seller thinks is clean.

I bought the Hoover You mentioned in the more expensive cleaners but the spot cleaner was in the handle, like a wand. Anyway, I liked it because the brushes were removable making them easier to clean. If you have more pets than you need and must clean carpets at least once every other month, monthly sometimes here, do not get that machine. I loved it but the first one broke after 6 months (rollers quit turning and you can’t replace the belt). They gave me a new one. It stopped after about 7 months. And I cleaned it after every use making sure no hair was in the roller areas. So when it broke I ordered the Bissell Big Green cleaner because that was what we had to rent to finish cleaning my carpet right before Christmas. I liked it so I bought one for my Christmas present (one of them anyway. 😁😁😂😅😁😁.. ). Replacement parts can be ordered for it so I hope it lasts years.

I was all set on the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution® Pet Pro, but since I plan to do a lot of hose work, the fact that Bissell didn't provide a way to turn off the brushes when using the hose and attachments seemed a stunning design oversight. It led me to look at the Hoover Smartwash with the wand, which shuts off the rollers when the user brings the handle upright. Not sure whether it deliver, but I like the concept of the Hoover's standalone pretreatment wand more than the off-center spot treatment port on the Bissell. Plus the Hoover will cost me about $100 less. Regardless, I love watching the reviews. Very well done.
ETA that another feature of the Hoover that I really like is a dedicated rinse. It's easy to use too much cleaning product, which has the effect of adding dirt to the carpet if it's not removed. At the very least, it will mean the carpet will look dirty sooner.
A final thought, I am waiting for the carpet cleaning test that revisits the results in 2 weeks to a month after cleaning to see whether the spots have wicked up or are really gone. Wicking is the bane of DIY carpet cleaners working on wall to wall or other immovable carpet. But I'll go on faith and get the Hoover without that demonstration.

Bought the Bissell Pet Pro but found out that there is a major issue in that the bristles _never_ stop rotating. This caused an issue with carpet wear and fuzzing when I was using it as a upholstery cleaner. As the carpet had long nap, it caused a lot of drag and resulted in the belt smelling like burning rubber. Having owned a Hoover that lasted for 20 years prior that stopped the bristles when the handle was upright, I viewed this as a design defect (which was confirmed by their customer service) and returned the Bissell and ordered another Hoover. And the dirty water tank seemed very low volume, resulting in having to empty significantly more times than I was used to.

Hello, we just put together the hoover power scrub xl pet. The brushes don't spin amd i found the brushes very soft.
After watching your video I instantly know why the two type brush carpet cleaner gets stuck and the hoover doesn't. The hoover brushes aren't stiff, they're super super soft, they glide over the carpet, and that's why must pass the cleaner multiple times over a spot to clean. Soft bristles don't clean efficiently. The Bissell one has stiffer brushes/bristles, it cleans better, and bcz of the stiffer brushes it gets stuck.
I don't know if we should keep the hoover, we don't have pets, our carpets are very clean at all times, but once a year we like to clean them.
    What is your suggestion?

@babochee I've read that using hot water is bad advice because it can warp the plastic tanks, causing them to not fit correctly. Another reason not to use too hot water is that it can ruin the seals, causing leaks and loss of suction.

I LOVE our Bissell Pro Heat 2X for pets. It does clean well. The clean shot has purpose and helpful but dependent on type and degree of stain.
My only complaint is post use. We have two German Shepherds who shed like crazy. All the pre vacuuming can’t save the removable parts that dispense liquid and clean.
I often have to remove the parts and thoroughly rinse them to finish the job. And on the chance that I don’t need to do it half way, you HAVE to do it each time you use it!
I’ve also noticed it leaks if left sitting upright with the clean liquid tank still attached. BUT, I did see that Bissell not has a tray that not only cleans the brush rolls, etc, when you sit the vacuum on it up also prevents water leaking all over!
I also have the Bissell Green, love it and have no complaints!

Any thoughts Bissell JetScrub? Would have really liked to see how it compares to others, as that models always confused me. It came out shortly after the ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro, with Bissell calling it their best/most advanced upright carpet cleaner yet. It seemed like they were marketing it as an improved ProHeat 2x that had come out like a year before, with all these added features. It was also priced almost the same. However its the *size* of a budget cleaner, and from the beginning I remember seeing lots of complaints about how soaked it left peoples floors, even though it makes the same "about 30 minutes" claim their ProHeat one makes. Then it seemed like I never really saw or heard about it again, its almost like Bissell wants to just forget it...
Seemed like it was a total flop, but why price it at almost $300, when it apparently performs significantly worse than their other $300 model, that knew it would be compared to. (Especially by them calling it their "best carpet cleaner yet!") And even now, why not just discontinue it, or lower its price..?
