They are definitely less expensive than buying them pre-made and so much more satisfying! First timer here and love it, followed along this morning and ordered 12 skeins- 'Bernat Blanket Big Yarn' bulk pkg from Michaels online and saved a bundle. Great value, each blanket will cost around $40! Thanks so much Maggie! Your video was the first to come up when I googled how to hand knit a blanket and I am so glad it did!
The blanket came out beautiful, I love the colors and the pattern. I hope I can find the same yarn because I would love to make this blanket.
Very clear and easy instructions. I've watched other similar videos that just weren't clear. Thank u.
Just used this to reknit a damaged throw blanket that was gifted to me. I've never knit anything before in my life and this made it super easy. Got it done in just a few hours. Thanks 😊!!
Beautiful blanket! Can't wait to try this. So nice to see a video from you! :-)
Hello there Maggie, last night I built this quilt along with your tutorial, I used Bernat Big Blanket Yarn, whoa, my family is going gaga over it. What a cool method. Thank you very much for sharing your creative genius. :0)
Very well explained and camera is at a great angle for a learners(me😀) to study and watch every move u make,I can’t wait to start, thank u very much for sharing.
Great tutorial video, I love how you go slow enough for a beginner like me to actually understand how it’s done. Love that you explained not to twist the stitches because I was doing that 😊
Great video Maggie! You're thorough, clear and patient. I haven't made a hand knit blanket because I wasn't sure about adding another row. Thanks so much!! I'll message you when I've made mine. 😊
I can't find the hand knit blanket on your site. 😥
It’s there now! 👍🏻
I can't wait to start this project I'm so excited this will you be my second knitting project
Its fun
I just love your chunky blanket also you describe how to do it so easy. Looking forward to more.
Thank you for this video! I bought some super thick yarn a while ago and when trying to figure out what to do I saw a lot of videos using broom handles and pipes as needles! This has made it so much easier! I'm part way through my blanket now and I hope I have enough yarn to make a decent size 🙂
Let me start off with I love your videos!! I am a beginner I haven't done my 1st blanket yet. You are making it look so ez. BUT I wish when you finished a blanket you would hold it up and show the size and pattern because it's hard for someone who hasn't done it before to judge how big they are by measurements. I love those 2 colors together!!
Angie Harvey hi there! Take a peek at my blog, I show a few pictures over there 👍🏻
Love your vid, esp bind, I was totally having troubles with that on other vids, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU
Thank you. I am inspired for starting this hand knitting
Best tutorial and easiest to follow.
Beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️
THANKYOU for showing us how to do it with cheaper small balls!
Thank you for this video!!!! 🌻 I have been looking for a well explained video to hand knit... And all videos I came across (before finding this one) were too rushed!
Maggie I want to make this for my granddaughter. I love the pattern and the material. My only concern is will this material shed? If not I’m ordering today.
thank u so much i love this blanket i made! thank u 🙏
Nice simple blanket. Are there any other stitches that can be done by hand?
This is a wonderful tutorial thank you
Lion Brand Blanket
Hi!! I would love you to make a video on how you would crochet or knit a chunky pillow in the same style, please!
I’m thinking Round poufs, floor poufs, & Throw pillows!
Awesome tutorial, just curious though, so you only had one row of a different color, what if I wanted to make three more rows with the color I changed to? Do I make a knot with the two colors on the end so I can reuse it? I’m using 3 different colors.
Hi Maggie, How do you wash this blanket as it look way too big to wash in the sink and the yarn is hand wash only and does it hold up well are washing? Thank you.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!
Hi I’ve made this but I did 14 stitches to start as I’m doing more of a runner for the bed, I’ve just bought two more skeins as I want to make it a bit longer can I just add to it or do it have to unravel all of it?
Also my cast on end when I started is looser and not as tight as the binding end, is there anything I can do to fix it instead of unravelling and restarting it? X really great tutorial by the way
How do you keep you stitches from coming undone?
U make it so easy to understand. However I was curious as to why some tutorials say to skip the first stitch on each row when u begin to knit a new row??? Would u know why this is?????
Carissa Coursen I had this question too
Carissa Coursen it’s picked upon the next row, it’s not missed. It keeps the sides from curling up and makes a nice even finished edge
I have got thin yarn but I cant do the next row part is it still okay using the thin yarn
I'm in the UK wish I could find a cheap wool to make one of your blankets.....help please 🙏
How do you weave it at the end?
Can you do this on size 6 bulky yarn?
How is this holding up? Are you able to wash it as normal?
Hi, I just had one suggestion: It would be nice to see the final version of the blanket as a whole. - Love your videos by the way! You're a great teacher.

I wd luv to give this a try. How many skiens of yarn did u need??
Melody Willoughby Hi. It's on her link @ www.simplymaggie.com/how-to-hand-knit-a-chunky-blanket. Happy knitting!
Maile Kwan thx
For those who have done this, is there any measurements (e.g. 4 in/3 stitch) because I would like to make an upscale of this project. I would greatly appreciate any advice :)
What if we done more than one row of the second color? How do we switch back to the original color?
while $72 is less than some of the other blankets (I've seen them go over $300!), i don't think it exactly qualifies as "cheap".
Michael's has this yarn and they have coupons for 40% off your entire online purchase. You can have it shipped or order online and pick it up at the store...
What did you mean by “make sure you don’t twist your yarn “?
Cindy Watson as in twist the stitch. If you twist the stitch it won’t look the same
Thank you. I guess you mean on your arm.
Cindy Watson nope, with this technique as well.
15:16 bind
Estes pontos não ficaram bonitos.
Lovely..but their yarns cost 13+ dollars (average price 30$) per skien..and we need 7/8 😭 this is in Amazon canada
ARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
it totals to $63... that isn't cheap for a blanket

I am surprised you said this is "CHEAP". A $7.99 a ball of yarn, and your pattern calling for 9-10 balls, is almost $80. Not what I would consider cheap. Thanks for the instructions though.

have you tried doing this using your wrist? makes for a much tighter more uniform product. your 's looks sloppy. or maybe it's the yarn.
what do you mean using your wrist? Is it where you wrap the yarn around your wrist to gauge the size of the loops ?
