    Love this version of a wrap skirt with the buttons. Thank you for showing how to draft a simple beginner friendly wrap skirt pattern and for the clear sewing instructions!

    Just what I was looking for. I began a new healthy lifestyle intervention: Riding my bicycle to church. Instead of going to restroom to change into a skirt, I wrap around my biker shorts and into church service I go. Saves time and I do not have to carry my side bike bag inside. Thanks for having a sharing heart. God bless your creative mind. Love Sister Dee

    What a brilliant teacher Miss Maker is! I have had a go making patterns from favourite clothes but they never work very well so really appreciated the guidance here. I want my wrap skirt to have a tie waist so will keep the internal button and loop and my brain will be working hard to work out how to manage the external tie....

      Thanks so much for your lovely comments Dawn, great to hear you are enjoying the videos. Yes, it would be easy to replace the outer button and loop with ties. Instead of the button loop sandwich one tie into the outer waistband end, create a second tie and attach it to the waist band about 5cm away from where the outer waistband end would overlap, secure it with some nice neat top stitching and you'll have a lovely side tie instead :o) xx

    I so, so much love this! How empowering to learn a bit about pattern making. Yes, I ran into a few problems but all was adaptable (waistband a bit too short). I will be making this over and over until I get it right in a variety of fabrics. Thank you so much for all your time and skill involved to make this video for us all. Much appreciation from Texas:).

    This is a great tutorial and very clear and slow making it easy to understand. I've come back to this several times and the material I bought last year is still waiting. lol. I am not an off the peg sizing and I haven't made myself anything for years so love the ease of working out my measurements. Hopefully I will put this into practise very soon. Thank you for the excellent video. I do have an observation re the waistband length measurement. It's to be 1.5 x my waist measurement plus 4 cms but that will not fit. When drawing out the pattern, you add 2 cm to each of the sides so you are adding a total of 12 cms to the waist measurement (2 cm x 2 sides of the pattern for the back and 2 cm x 2 sides of the pattern for the sides x 2).

    • @missmaker7298
      @missmaker7298  Рік тому +1

      Hi there, Yes. That gives you movement ease of 6cm each side. As a wrap skirt you can always wrap it tighter to get your desired fit. By all means leave out the 2cm each side if you'd rather a snug fit.

    • @sherri1402
      @sherri1402 Рік тому

      @missmaker7298 Thank you! Mine is done but I'm considering adding a bit of elastic in the waistband to snug it up a bit. I think my hip to waist measurements aren't the ideal (more hip than usual for my waist!). Again, thank you for your quick response.

    Thank you for the great video. How do you adjust the pattern if you have a tummy and want the hem line to look straight when standing?

    • @missmaker7298
      @missmaker7298  2 роки тому

      Hi there. I would add a dart to the frotlnt pattern peices too. Do it in exactly the same way you add the back darts. (Extend the side seam out the total of the dart and add dart about 10cm in from the side seam) This will add a little extra shaping. If you need a larger adjustment that this you can increase the length of the centre front of the pattern then curve the waistline and hemline back to the original length at the sides.

    • @missmaker7298

      They mirror each other, best to cut on folded fabric so you get a left and a right. 😀

    Hello Miss Maker & THANK YOU for this easy to follow tutorial.
    Question: How would this pattern work with a lightweight 'flowy' fabric that was cut on the bias? Thanks again!

    • @missmaker7298
      @missmaker7298  2 роки тому

      Hi there, thanks for the lovely comment. You could use this same tutorial but cut your skirt pieces on the bias. I would recommend carefully stay stitching all bias edges to ensure they do not stretch out of shape as you work with them though. 👍👍

  • @shirleyporterfield241
    @shirleyporterfield241 2 роки тому +1

    I assume the fabric used was woven, non stretch. For fabric with stretch, would you change the seam allowance? Any other changes?

    • @missmaker7298
      @missmaker7298  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, Yes, this skirt is made up in a woven fabric, for stretch fabric you could use 2cm seam allowances to give it a little negative ease. Being a wrap skirt it's very easy to adjust sizing 👍👍

  • @deloresstanton5847
    @deloresstanton5847 2 роки тому

    I love the tutorial. Since you used the exact waist measurement, won't the waist be too tight when you take in the darts?

    • @missmaker7298
      @missmaker7298  2 роки тому

      Fab, glad you like it! If it was a standard A-line skirt with a zip closure then yes, you'd want to build in some ease, but as it is a wrap skirt there is plenty more fabric than waist measurment. We also add the darts to the side of the pattern before taking them away. So should be a good fit.

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. If you have a look at my maxi skirt tutorial it takes you through how to make a waistband with ties, if you make one side longer that the other you can make them meet to tie at front or back. Hope that helps, thanks for your comment

    • @Overboard111
      @Overboard111 3 роки тому +1

      The total width you cut is 8cm. The finished width is 2.5cm. Each turnover is 1.5cm. (2.5+2.5+1.5+1.5=8)

    • @clareblackmore-davies7437
      @clareblackmore-davies7437 4 роки тому +1

      Hi there Sarah. It really depends on how long you wish to make your skirt and the width of your fabric. Around three times the length of your skirt will be plenty, (eg for a 50cm skirt 1.5m)
