A note to TRS. It's not arrange marriage that is an issue. It is marrying in your own family. Nowhere did he say arrange marriage. I think if you marry in totally unrelated families, you should be fine.

    • @shashankmish
      @shashankmish 10 місяців тому +266

I think the reason that mostly "arranged marriage" has this issue is because people mostly tend to ask their distant relatives whether they know someone who is gonna be compatible for a marriage and overall if you see there is a high probability that they belong to the same community. This can happen in love marriages too but the chances may be lower

The thing with arranged marriages in India is people look for a partner from the same caste, community, gotra etc. This has a higher chance of a problem. The further away you go from people related to u, the better the chances of healthy babies. So marrying from a completely different caste and state should be encouraged.

I agree with Dr. Pal. It still exists very much in the Nagarathar (Chettiar) community which incidentally Dr. Pal also comes from in TN. I come from that community too, no matter how much we tell elders, they are blinded by caste and marrying into the community. The genetic diseases are very rampant and I know a lot of relatives like that. It is said that all the Nagarathars originated from 7 people who escaped flood in Kaveripoompattinam and settled in Karaikudi. It cannot be hard to connect the dots for the elders who still make it impossible to marry outside the community.

There is also this blood disorder called "Thalassaemia" major which is caused by faulty genes that a child inherits from their parents. You inherit one set gene from your mother and one from your father. That is why in India, i believe it is more important to get yourself tested for Thalassaemia before matching your Kundli. Because even now after so much of advanced technology, people and specifically some Gynaecologist here are still unaware of this blood disorder. So someone who has already gone through so much of hardships in life has to alert people and request them to please get yourself tested before getting married. Thanks for sharing this video, you are doing a wonderful job. 🙏

As a genetic counsellor, I can say that marrying in relation (called consanguinity) might increase your risk of having children affected with certain kind of genetic disorders that have not yet been observed in your family due to expression of "disease causing" genes that were suppressed by other normal genes. There are certain ethnic groups where certain types of genetic disorders are more prevalent as compared to the general population. However, as human beings living in a society with emotions, it can be difficult to restrict or choose your life partner based on their genetic makeup. With advancements in genetic testing which is more readily available now, options of Carrier screening is suggested to such couples before marriage or before planning for pregnancy, which detects presence of any common genetic changes that might cause development of serious genetic disorders in their progeny.

Yes. There is a community of vaishyas..they have lost a gene which responds to anesthesia. Doctors in my region ( andhra ) specifically ask the caste...to know if anesthesia works on him or not. Its bcoz of too much in breeding within caste.
In many cases of arranged marriage, parents often try to find potential brides among close relatives. In my own family, i have seen multiple cases where partners shared a common ancestor some 3-4 generations back.
Gotra system is actually very scientific. It prevents recessive disorders. But u get gotra only from father...but genes from both father and mother.
If intra caste marriages happen for few more hundred years, younger generation will have to face lot of health issues.
There must be genetic diversity. 2 healthy distinct genetics create a healthy, stronger, resilient child.
In puranas we happen to see people marrying outside their community. And they produced offsprings of exceptional knowledge or strength.

Our ancestors were really scientific related to this. There are references in puranas where distinct, healthy people gave birth to stronger, more resilient kids.
They followed gotra. Not caste. Caste came later and it became soo rigid.
Marriages in ancient India were based on varna and gotra...and not caste.
They checked genetics through gotra ( 7 generation...bcoz after 7 generations , its affect will be almost 0 - concept of inbreeding depression and gene frequency )
They checked mutual compatibility by varna ( it was based on gunas, nature, temperament ).
Now we are idiots who are marrying within families, within caste ( most irrelevant thing in this era ), and we frown upon people who truly love each other and are completely genetically distinct. Actually they deserve to get married happily, but society condemns that.

This is really so tough, when a still birth at that stage or advanced happens, for the whole family. U need to be real brave to speak about it!

In arranged marraiges in Hinduism 'gotra' is checked of both the families to get rid of this problem

Marrying a sister's daughter is quiet common in Tamil nadu. I have my college friend whose elder sister married her uncle. We may feel weird, but even as a child the girl and her uncle are constantly fed by family to be future husband and wife

That's why we should never carry blind customs and superstitions passed down from our parents generations, and put them on a pedestal. We should also do our own research and think about whether the practice is sensible or not.
Such consanguine marriages happen because they believe that it's okay for their daughter to marry uncle, or for related communities with connected in laws to marry their children. Just because that person knows your family well and has seen you grow up, that doesn't mean they're right for you as a life partner.

If someone has seen you grow up, they are probably too old for you 😂

Very good explanation by Dr. Thats the reason our ancestors follows check 7 generation on either side do check gotras, if same gotra of boys not matching with paternal and maternal side of girl , definitely the issues will not be arise, due to many unforseen conditions leads to marriage with in families which leads to this kind of issues

Note: This has nothing to do about arrange marriages it’s about consanguinity which is marrying within same family…. In fact arrange marriages are somewhat safe coz families tend to consider the family background relation first(gotra).

Very informative vedio, I am myself witness many kids during my rural posting,(I was posted in rural village of south delhi Primary health centre )and feel sad about them, when ever I asked them "apki shaadi ristedari main hui hai "(are you married in your close realtives or (cusion )in same community )the answer was always yes.Genes are important aspect... Hope we will have pre marital councelling services in our country, one day so that we can teach our masses... Shaadi se phele kundali ke sath sath medical & genetic report bhi milani chaiye 😅😅.... Hum same caste /religion /community toh match kar ke social compatibility toh check kar lete hai, ab humme blood sample se medical compatibility bhi check karani chaiye... Genes bhi aur diseases bhi... Like HIV, VDRL, HbAsg...etc....Desh ke Yuvao ko payar ke liye(Shaadi ) ke liye khoon dena (blood sample ) chaiye 😅😅.

TRS - please be mindful of your titles. Our marriage system is based on the Gene knowledge to avoid biological issues which is the whole point of gotra system. The problem is NOT WITH ARRANGED MARRAIGE, it's with marrying with same family genes. Please correct it.
