I bought a Vigilant in 78 and it still is working fine. Cost was $700 new.

The manual, in addition to detailing replacement of gaskets, also mentions resealing seams with cement.
What seams are they talking about? I’m sure only an authorized dealer/ service center will know as it says to take it to one for this.
The stove I bought used has very little use and cleaned up nicely but I has globs of cement where I’m certain there should be none and it certainly wasn’t applied by a professional.

The seams they are referring to is between the cast iron pieces. Often times you will see cement in those seams. The stove unit is usually never one piece of cast iron but rather many pieces. It is possible it wasn't applied properly and some spilled out a bit.

I acquired one of these, wondering if you could recommend any videos that go into operating detail and advice about using the stove?

I would love to hear. I just bought a home with one of these and I’m trying to learn how to use it correctly and efficiently. I was told that I can save a lot of money using it vs my heat and I’m all for it. Plz do

@@oliviah1638 I dont have too much info on it, but I know that one trick is building up a nice bed of coals by having good air flow in the beginning, to get the steel of the stove hot enough so that when you add a few more logs it burns and doesnt smoke, then you can close down the damper and let it burn slower. Definitely good to get it really hot first, and then overnight you will want to add a couple of logs on the hot embers, then let those get good and hot before shutting down the stove for the night, you should still have embers in the morning with which to start the fire back up with fresh wood.

I’ve owned this stove for 16yrs or so. The catalytic version with refectory in the back. Great little stove. Have pushed 60 cord thru it. After 500-550 degrees, you can close the damper and turn down the lower controls to slow things down some. For longer burns, just stack up the top with oak or something, perhaps something that is not bone dry. If you have a good ash bed in the tray, you’ll more than likely have coals to work with in the morning, if looking for a continuous burn.

Would love to hear what you are saying. My volume is turned all the way up and it sounds like a toddler mumbling into a pillow.

You state in the video this stove is not able to vent out the rear, but the Resolute Acclaim manual has instructions on how to reverse the flue collar. Which is correct? I'm about to purchase a used Acclaim and will need to verify this before I purchase ... thanks!

If shown in manual than you should be all set! Just confirm model# on stove and manual. Happy heating!

Mine vents from the rear, not the top. It’s the exact same stove shown here but pipe comes out the back. I can send you pics and videos

Alas, discontinued. You'll have to find one (if you want one) on Craig's list or equivalent. Pity.

Is there any problem with the enamel?

+Gregg G The enamel can chip/crack with rough use. Enamel is a dust magnet need a duster to keep it looking great!

My resolute has most of the enamel blistered off on the top. I’m currently trying to figure out how to remove the three top pieces so I can gave them re-enameled. It’s a great stove otherwise.
