Not as many as last year Clare, I thought I better scale it back a little, LOL. I think you could easily handle a few more and they'd love it in your polytunnel. The live was fun wasn't it? I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for the Kitchen Garden Planner & Record Book, beautifully produced and plenty of space for my notes. Highly recommend. Of course, my eyes lit up at the free tomato seeds, I may have to grow more than 30 varieties now! 😂🤭
🙏🏻 I hope the seeds do well for you and I think you should definitely go for over 30 varieties, that would be so much fun when they all start ripening up. Re. The planner, I’d love to know how you got on with it at the end of the year 👍🏻
I have just sorted through my huge tomato seed store. I am sowing 30 varieties, which is less than the 45 last year 😂. I just find tomato growing so addictive. I grew the green, pink and red tie dyes last year, totally delicious. I also fell in love with pineapple and black pineapple.
I haven’t seen or heard of Pineapple and Black Pineapple, I’ll go and see what I can find. They sound like they should taste of pineapple as I can’t imaging they look like them… going to take a look now.
Hi Chris, nice update, looking forward to the live next week. I’m growing Y Ddraig Goch and Sweey Aperitif for show plus Gigantomo, Chadwick, Roma and some from Nial. Also the ones I got with your book and my Tomato Revolution stash from last year. Growing them all outside too. Too many seeds, not enough space
Hi Andy, I'm looking forward to the live this Thursday too, Danny is doing a great job over the winter with these group chats. I haven't heard of some of those, do you often grow for showing? I put my heirlooms into our local show and I don't think they know what to do with them 😂.
@@veggieplot is my first year growing for show but I’ve been interested for a while and went to some shows as spectator last year. The key to showing is uniformity which can be difficult with some helms especially the multi coloured ones. The judges should mark against the ideal of that variety but knowing all the tomato is impossible 😂 even looking up on the internet you may get different punctures for each one!
I love tomato taste test videos and came across yours last year but just subscribed recently. Last year I had 12 varieties and then bought 3 dwarf plants. I then joined a tomato facebook group where people trade and gift. I now have seeds for about about 250 varieties. I’ll be growing about 48 plants this year but just 1 plant of each. A friend may also grow a few varieties for me to taste and seed save from. Your Taiga is a Karen Olivier variety and she’s a Canadian breeder. I have all 18 of her currently available varieties so that’s a chunk of what I’ll be growing. I’ll be interested to see what you think of the ones you grow this year. Greetings from 🇨🇦
Oh my Rowena, 250 varieties, that sounds like a great FB group to belong to. 48 plants is also a serious amount to grow, I'm very impressed and would love to know your favourites at the end of the season. I am really looking forward to Taiga this year as so many people have said good things about it.
Taiga is absolutely gorgeous. And if you cut the tomato across the other dimension, pretty much like you do in your video, you will be thoroughly amazed. Meaty, sweet, tasty. Just let it ripe well. I have sown 23 plants....23 different varieties. There are some I have very high hopes for. Amongst them is the infamous Hungarian Heart, Polaris, Midnight Sun, Virginia Sweet etc
I am very much looking forward to Taiga as it has had such excellent reviews and I've seen others cut it as you describe, very beautiful. I haven't heard of the tomatoes you listed, where do you get your seeds from?

Just stumbled across this lovely video! Lucid Gem and Alice’s dream were also my favourites, I order mine from vertiloom which has a huge chilli and tomato selection.
Good aft Chris. I have just pre ordered my little book and seeds. Sat here watching Live tomato growing chat on Danny's channel. That's where I got the details from. I didn't realise u are in liskeard. Hello from Bodmin. 😁
I've printed out your order and you will be one of the first to be sent out. Thank you for your trust and nice to hear from another gardener in Cornwall, there aren't many of us online.
I have recently found a succession planting schedule spreadsheet from Johnny's Selected Seeds. I always struggled with when to start the next set of seeds to sow of a particular variety. If you have a look, you may wish to consider a link to your web site.
Looks like a great selection you have there with Alice's Dream being my favourite last year. I'm not sowing until March 1st which will be over two weeks earlier than last year. I'm in no rush.
Two of them a favourites of mine and reading up about Tim’s taste of paradise, I think I'll have to try and get some of those next year. The history sounds fascinating too. Do let me know if you like them.
Some interesting tomato varieties and you must have a lot of space for 32 varieties, my issue is always blight and never seem have a season without it.
Do you grow outside or in? We have terrible blight down here every year and I gave up growing most tomatoes for a few years and just grew blight resistant Crimson Blush and Crush in the greenhouse. However, the polytunnel seems to be a micro climate safe zone, so I now squeeze in six plants in per 1.5 metres with the two main beds being 4.5m long.
Have you tried Thorburns Terracotta? It was my pleasant surprise two years back and now I will regularly grow it! Such a nice tomato and wonderful colour!
I haven't grown or heard of them but I did a Google search and see they are on one of my supplier's websites. They look very interesting and have a fascinating history. What is it most you like about them?
They don't tend to split but what I have found is that if I don't water them consistently, then they can. We went away for awhile one year and when I got back I did give some plants a glug of water. The sudden uptake did cause some of the fruit to split, so I try not to do that anymore.
Ah, they look really promising don't they Con. I can't wait to get started this year and see what they're like. Let me know what you think when they're ready.
Hi Richard, I don't have their addresses but you can find them all online. NRTomatoseed, Tomato Revolution and She Grows Veg. All in the UK. I hope this helps.
That is not a small list! Impressive. You’ve made me realise I may need to add more varieties. Thanks for the live tonight ❤
