Thank you for your video. I recently had my fluid changed in my 2018 Sentra at 45,000 miles professionally. Your video instructs on how to the change the fluid, but not the filter. I AM NOT SINGLING YOUR VIDEO OUT. IT IS EXCELLENT! I did some research regarding this fluid exchange by watching maybe 6 other videos as well. Most showed the filter being exchanged. I After watching the videos, I contacted three local Nissan dealers regarding price and process. Quotes were $100 to $200 dollars apart. When I inquired if the external filter ($12) was part of the fluid change process, all three said no, my 2018 Sentra doesn't have a filter. They were all wrong and incompetent. The independent mechanic I use was aware of the filter exchange requirement. The bottom line is, know what your service people don't. Get educated before getting ripped off. Thanks again for your work.

@@robertomoreno8455 The transmission fluid must be at a very specific level for proper operation. The drain plug has a valve which is intended to stop drainage when the fluid reaches the correct level

@@robertomoreno8455 I had to rewatch the video to understand your question. The correct fluid level is less than 4 1/2 qts. When adding new fluid you are overfilling the trans. Removing the drain plug (not the tube), you are dropping the level of fluid to the tube level, leaving the correct amount of fluid in the trans. Having the car on a level surface is important to insure proper fluid volume.

Great job!!! I like the way you kept the vehicle level instead of using a floor jack which we'll make the vehicle un level, giving you an inaccurate fluid level reading!!! your video was spot on 😇🏆

    Great video Sam!
It was very helpful for me to change my tranny fluid on my 2015 Nissan Sentra. However, I am a little confused on how the whole overflow tube works. Basically, what I did is that when I removed the 19mm bolt, just about 2 quarts drained out. I noticed on your video no fluid even came out???
Then, I removed the 5mm overflow tube, and an extra 1.3 quarts of fluid came out, for a total of 3.3 quarts drained. I replaced with 3.5 quarts of genuine Nissan fluid. I noticed you indicated in your video that 3.5 quarts came out and your put 4.5 quarts of fluid in.
Is there a reason how you came to adding an extra quart compared to what came out or did you mean to say you drained 4.5 quarts; therefore, replaced it exactly by what came out, which would be the 4.5 quarts you put in? Thank you in advance!

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the CVT steps. Did DIY maintenance work on one for the first time some weeks ago so was a bit nervous, but it worked out without needing a scan tool to monitor the fluid temps. :)
P.S. for future readers: Idemitsu is rebranded OEM fluid which is what I used and got off RockAuto. It's N3 rated for NS-3 CVTs and is a bit cheaper than the Genuine Nissan stuff.

I have a 2018 Nissan Sentra SV and will be changing the trans fluid out soon. When I am driving over 65 miles per hour it acts as if it is losing power and the RPMs will drop some then go up and drop some again. I also will be changing the spark plugs. I currently have 91,508 (I know a little late to the changing trans party). What do you think that could be? It doesn't do it all the time and most of the time wants to do it while going up a small hill or so. Just does it on highway.

Does your Sentra have a slight whining sound from the CVT only when the shifter is in Park or Neutral? I've watched several of your videos and it seems like I heard it. Mine makes that same sound as well and I've been trying to determine whether it's normal or something to be concerned about. The sound goes away when I shift into Drive or Reverse and it drives fine with no issues. My guess is that it's just belt noise on the variator pulleys when they're freely spinning in Park and Neutral.

    • @SamAkaVlogs
      @SamAkaVlogs  Рік тому +2

Yes, I guess it's normal cause it worked fine. The noise went quieter on each trans flush.

@@joshuaababio8124 Have you always noticed that sound or is it something that suddenly started? Mine is still doing it, but it's driving just fine 4,000 miles later since I changed the fluid. Seems like the new fluid may have silenced it slightly. I know now that these Xtronic transmissions have a set of planetary gears in them, so that may be what's actually creating that sound. It may not be anything to be concerned about.

@RadRoger ok so its a 2019 Nissan SV and I got it at an auction with 93,400 miles. I began to notice it after my first engine oil change however drives really fine. I've had it for only 3 months and soon to get the CVT fluid checked and replaced.

He added more than needed then he drained the extra fluid. I like to drain it cold and measure it so I know exactly how much to put back in. Fluid expands when its hot so you gotta follow the video if you drain the fluid while it's hot.

    • @brianluimes1905

The overflow tube is how much fluid you need. Its a tube that sticks up vertically into the pan. By removing only the 19 mm plug you can't drain the oil, you must also remove the tube with an Allen wrench.
You then put the tube back and add oil till it starts leaking out of the drain hole.
This gentleman adds a little extra, runs the car for 20 min and drains the excess by removing the 19mm but NOT the tube.

That is a good question. No wonder at the beginning he did not have any fluid!!! He just drain it after filling it, lol
I think instead of opening the drain plug after filling, he should open the overflow to drain the access amount.
I wonder how many people burned their CVT by running it without fluid ...
