Pro tip, always leave one bolt at the top and pry slowly, then the fluid drains at a controlled rate.
yes thank you, will learn this the hard way 😅
Or use a hex key to remove the overflow tube mounted in the drain hole and most of the fluid will drain out but the one bolt left loose in the pan is still a good idea.
If You do that You could bend the oil pan.
Just a heads up if you are having a hard time removing the black cap on the fill tube you have the option of removing one 10mm bolt that holds the fill tube to the transmission. Get it out in the open and use a screwdriver for leverage to pop it off. Mine was really stuck on for some reason. Shout out to Nissan for making such a shitty design and no dipstick. F-ing ridiculous.
I then used a quart pumper and just filled it without the full tube on. I filled it 4 and 2/3rd quarts approximately before it small streamed (dribbled) out the drain plug.
I did the same thing, remove the 10mm as you mention, it is much easier than taking the plastic cap off,
at dealer, they told me it only need 3.75 quarts, I wonder if you had over filled yours, any impact on driving?
My son has a 2011 Cube with a rebuilt CVT with 60,000 miles 2 drains & refills at 30,000. I have no choice but to do my own trans service because Nissan doesn't do this. What are the recommended torque specs for the pan & filter? How do you reset trans deterioration if you don't scan a tool like yours?
service manual says 5ft/lbs. Seems a bit low for me, I just go hand tight on these. You need a scan tool to reset trans deterioration its the only way. Its not necessary since there is no service light on the cluster, its only for the TCM history.
@@OneTrickTech Thanks bro I appreciate your videos & answering my questions.
great video. what I don't understand is why every video I saw puts so much CVT oil and waste it draining out. $20 to $30 a quart and easily over by 1 quart is wasted every time. I'm going to put in what came out and top off after warm up until trickling fluid comes out from the stupid straw. Really stupid of all these car manufacturers.
Right watched one guy he got only one quart out after dropping the pan then he dumps 5 quarts in to watch over 3 quarts dump back out 😂.
I believe us because it needs all thst fluid to go through all the small valleys snd ports it can not have and air lock in it and when it pumps itself through it drains out. Maybe clean containers to catch it and save it as long as it's not hydroscopic abd pulls water into fluid like brake fluid
I don't believe u need 8 quarts though if 2 comes out 4 back in should be sufficient
I'm 100% with you on this stupid method setup by the manufacture...wanted us consumers to waste freaken money on purchasing the tranny fluids. I'm sure they had a deal with the oil company. I'll just do like you menetioned...makes more sense then these bone headed engineers.
Castro Trans Max.
Amazon. $7 a quart.
I've done two fluid and filter changes in 61,000 miles. Shifts beautifully...
the second filter is on the Driver's side, not as he said passenger side, also drain the fluid before dropping the pan, first the 19mm bolt then the 5 mm hex tube under the 19mm bolt.
Its passenger side in Australia as Vehicles are RHD here.
Other countries have the drver side on the right
@@themisunderstoodgorilla7030 most country drive on the right side of the road such as US, Canada, France .
@ThomasNguyen-qw6ro Yeah I know I drove around USA for 3 months for a work trip. Not sure what the relevance of your comment is though ?
Is it recommended to have the transmission oil warmed up before you initially drain it? I rewound the video a few times and couldn't notice mention? I thank you in advance
I'm confused with the oil amount checking procedure.
Is there no overflow bolt/plug to remove and let out the excess oil instead of removing the drain bolt?
If you remove the drain bolt to check for proper amount, then wouldn't you just be draining all the oil you put in the first place?
There is a second drain plug behind the 19mm one. Its a 5mm hex I believe but that's only to drain it properly and not spill everywhere like in the video(when I removed the pan). Most transmission have similar procedure where you let it drip and that's the indicating of it being at proper level.
I was confused with that one as well.
Yes you are right the fluid does run out but it is supposed to the Way you are going to check the fluid level just like he is in this video
2019 sentra 22600 miles.
I did the service. Dumped in 5qts. After 10min of running. Pulled the plug. Had a stream only for a couple of seconds.
The 3 magnets in the pan had a lot of muck on them. Kinda disappointing. The old fluid still had good color compared to the new. I used Nissan fluid.
Thank you again for the excellent vid.
What is the torque spec on oil pan screws?
Can't you just measure how much fluid you took out and put the same amount back in?
@irongoose3865 yes but you also have to account for any trans leaks that your car might have. Most people in the comments said you can get away with 5 quarts to complete this job.
So What is the correct amount?
5 or 8?
Why every video i watch telle different amount of transmission fluid to put in. One says 5 this says 8. I seen some that only put 2. Lol. Dealer said i only need 5
Hi? Can this same cartridge filter be found in a nissan micra k13 2011 cvt?
8 quarts!!! 🤣🤣 5 quarts and then let it drain and adjust. It will stop at 4.some quarts. The process would of been a lot faster with 5 quarts! 😉🤣🤣
Hello. Thanks for the video. I would like to know how much oil have you filled the transmission with. I guess the correct method is to firstly fill the transmission until oil drops out through the standpipe. Then start the engine and perform the gearbox learning by shifting on all gears. If no oil drops out, then we refill until oil comes out again. Correct me if I am wrong.
Im checking the level as the engine is running. Once it drips out like in the video then its at the correct amount.
Trans levels for most vehicles is checked while engine is running.
This is not for a sentra. Don't fucking listen to internet randoms. Passenger side isn't the right side for Sentras.
It was obviously the driver side. You are dumb. He worked on the correct side of the vehicle but mistakenly said passenger instead of driver side. Calm down kid
Hi, when you are checking the level, I am unclear on what drain plug to remove. I believe it would be the smaller plug on the back as opposed to the 19mm, correct?
8 quartz its too much. . It only takes 5 quarts
I drained the rest to adjust level anyway at the end of the video.
I did the same mistake, and the trans lose power, I recheck, and take some oil out, and work fine after😁
@Brian Berry 7 is enough, you will drain some when adjusting level.
Yeah, 5 quartz is enough for sentra s, not sure if other models require a greater quantity.
Why is parts from Nissan telling me I need ns2 for my 2012 Nissan versa sv instead of ns3?
Versa doesn't have a filter, it has a screen, in pan.
Thx so much for this comment. I have a 2015 Versa Note S. I’m dropping the trans pan and replacing the fluid and metal screen. The kit I’m getting online comes with the paper cartridge filter and I wondering if my car has this side filter 🤷🏻♂️
@@wyatt92563@mitchGaar It has BOTH filters
This is an example of what not to do! Don’t use aftermarket crap for such an important part of maintenance.
I removed the large hex key plug below cartridge filter for a thorough drain. Ended up filling with 5 quarts and draining about half a quart residual at warm temp.
Oops.. forgot to remove the over flow tube that's under the main drain plug. And u wouldn't have had that opps "watch out for that moment

I purchased a 19 Pathfinder and it had 25k took it to a local Madera ca transmission shop and they serviced it plus both filters, at 50k they said they no longer do cvt’s lol. Took to the dealer in Fresno and they said no filters need to be changed!??? Only a drain and fill, so that’s what I did. Now 70k I’m looking for a transmission shop that knows how to service this cvt. I’m shocked how many places say you don’t need to service it’s sealed! What is wrong with these guys! Money money to rebuild let it wear out
yes one of the biggest lies from most manufactures ; "lifetime fluid". The trans fluid will breakdown like any other fluid, it needs to be replaced
Good morning, by the way, can you tell me how many liters of transmission fluid are needed.
Good luck, great job. I'm from Iraq
Are you sure 8 quarts???

How many liters trasmission oil for nissan juke
When jacking up and using jack stands, do you use 4 and then have to be certain the car is level? I couldn't tell from the video but does the pan have two drain plugs.....one to completely drain the fluid (19mm plug) and the other to adjust the level after refilling (my Honda uses two?)
Thank you for the video....well done.
Yea I use 4 stands to make the car level. This one has 1 drain plug only, to fill the transmission is from the top.
About the oddest method I’ve seen. You need to measure what you drain so you refill correctly

@@OneTrickTech is there anyway you could email me the Nissan service manual procedure for this 1.8L unit? I’d be super grateful! Thank you and awesome video! Sub’d
The overflow tube has you thinking with your past experience. The importance of not overfilling is addressed by the tube
What if the car still jerks after replacing the cvt fluid?
that's a sign of a failed transmission
Great vid! It was concise. Everything was done well, and the explanation was thorough. Thank you!
My fluid change time hasn't come but can I change the side filter now ?
Is that regular OBD ?
Excellent thank you
Question…
1. Why use 8 quarts when 5 would waste less.
2. Does the ecu/management need to be reset?
I don’t have a scanner.
Thank you again
yes you can do just 5 quarts I'm guessing it would be enough. I did 8 quartz because of the service manual. No need to reset the maintenance light because there is no light in the cluster for transmission maintenance, its only for the ecu service history.
Thank you

@@OneTrickTech I just purchased a 2012 juke. I'm pretty sure none of this has ever been done to it. I feel confident I can do the job. But I was just curious as to why the drain off of filling? Does that get rid of the rest of the bad transmission fluid left behind from the first drain? My full cap has a dipstick attached to it and I'm getting no read on it from fluid at all. So just wondering how much I should fill and drain to get everything proper and how much I need to order on fluid. Also CVT 2 or CVT 3 fluid for a 2012 Juke?
Thank you so much for the vid and your time I appreciate it!!
Thanks for the video can u plz tell me what is the filter name which used on next to the tire, the filter name which is used for Gasket and please which cleaner spray used for the cleaning,

Quick Q does the Nissan Murano (2011-2014 model year) also come with an axiliary filter?
He didn't drain it properly. Fluid came flying out. 😂I didn't see a filter in the pan. Maybe mesh to clean.
i’ve been having trouble tightening up the filter cap bolt it seems to stay loose no matter now much pressure i put into it it doesn’t tight up. any advice?
For car with start/stop system, it's obligatory to bleed the system with consult-III ?
Thanks!
What happens if the 5mm hex is dripping but the 19mm overflow is sealed tight?
Looks like maybe 7¼-7½ quarts would have been closer?
LOL. Maybe you should learn how to take the pan off the right way! LOL
What solution did you clean the pan with? Thanks!
Brake Cleaner
Question, your Title has Juke, your video looks little different than my juke, is the car your changing fluid a later model juke, or different car? Also my juke seems to have a actual dip stick with hash marks. I'm confused why after you fill with fluid, why do you open the drain plug again and empty all the new fluid?
the car in the video is a sentra. Some Jukes with FWD only will have the same procedure. Draining the fluid at the end is to check the level since this doesn't have a dipstick. A lot of car makes have the same procedure when checking trans fluid level, once it drips as the car is running then the level is good.
Does a 2010 Nissan Sentra S use ATF transmission fluid or CRV transmission fluid? Thanks.
cvt trans fluid
@@OneTrickTech Do you know what would happen if I used ATF? I accidentally bought those.
@@wanxiangchen9511 the transmission will most likely fail. you need to put the correct fluid in there which is cvt fluid

Question. When letting out the fluid when the car is running, that is the overflow 14mm plug, not the main 19mm plug, correct?
@thatonedood85 no its the 19mm plug. the 14 mm plug is the engine oil pan, dont remove that.
Hey just to clarify you put in 8 quarts, warmed it up to specific temp, opened drain plug till you got a steady stream, close drain plug and than that was it? You didn’t add anymore fluid after you opened the drain plug? Thanks in advance
@dominicacosta3765 no need to add fluid, as soon as it starts to drip then that's the correct level. A lot of people in the comments are saying the 8quarts is too much. You could get away with just added 5 or 6 quarts. 8 quartz is from the Nissan procedure manual. If you don't have a scan tool to check the trans oil temp, just idle the car for about 10 min and it will reach desired temp.
Nissan cvt trans oil is tape #2 from years 2007 to 2012
Did you mean for 1.6L?
What is the probability of a nissan with cvt is fine no issues. And then it says y better change that fluid. And done everything right to manufacturer and the cvt is fucked afterwards
Puede ser que en la agencia aya echo mal el trabajo acá le paso una persona así lo llevo ala agencia hicieron mal el trabajo y se cargo la trasmisión cvt.
Can you confirm that the transmission for a Nissan Sentra 2013-2017 1.8L is the same as the Juke/ Versa 1.6 years 2013-2019?
the sentra and the versa are the same. The juke is a different cvt since it can vary with turbo model and AWD/FWD models
That's the wrong drain plug on the final step....?
wym?

Wait wait wait... You fill it up with expensive trans fluid, run it up to temp, then release trans fluid until it "dribbles down the pan"!?!?!?
I must be not understanding something. That can't be the right way to get the fluid level right.
Its the only way to check the fluid level. This is nissan's procedure. A lot of car maker don't put transmission dip sticks anymore. The only way to check fluid is to let it drip and that's how you know its at the right level. Ford, Kia, Chevrolet they all have the same procedure.
@@OneTrickTech Thanks for responding. Just seems so... bizarre.
Replacing the paper filter on side of the tranny. Would i need to drain the tranny first before replacing that? I had a mechanic change the oil but he didnt bother putting in the paper filter on the side
no need to drain since all the fluid finds its way in the pan. You might just loose a bit of fluid that's in the filter.
Where this shop is located because I want my nissan rogue 2016 to be done
Great work, just wanted to see the part of measurement oil meter/wand/bendable to see the level before changing/replacement/or check out quality oil before making the change
Does this work on a 2011 Juke if you can get back to me it’ll help man 😢
According to the parts it says it fits 2011-2014 juke but depends on the drivetrain awd or fwd. I would suggest to buy the filters and gasket specifically for the juke and the procedure will be very similar.
Im confused why drain it, fill it up with new oil and then drain it again wouldnt that be taking the new oil out
its to check the fluid level. Since there is no dipstick on the transmission, a lot of car maker make you do this procedure to adjust fluid level. Its the only way to check fluid level, drain it until it drips and its at the correct level.
Have a 2013 Juke Nimo CVT AWD that didn't come with a manual. 2013 Juke manual that I downloaded specified NS2 CVT Oil. See that you used NS3. Do you know which I should use?
I checked trans fluid when shopping parts and it also says NS2. If you want to be 100% sure, you should call a Nissan dealership, ask the parts people.
Is this for a 2015 Nissan and how did you clean it with soap and water or what?
yes for 2013-2018 Nissan Sentra with CVT transmission. I used brake cleaner to clean everything.
What is the filter called
Similar process with the Suzuki Swift Sport.
what model/part number is the paper filter? And metal housing filter? Local Nissan dealer could not find the mesh metal filter to order.

Does the car need to be level when doing all this? Or can i just jack up the front of the car and get the same results?
car has to be level
@@OneTrickTechmy mechanic only jacked up the front and I don't think he drained anything afterwards. Could you explain to me as if I'm 5yo 😅.
There is the main 19 bolt which I saw he took out to drain the old liquid (before removing the entire pan). If I want to drain the excess, I just wait 10 minutes with the car leveled and take that screw out until it starts dripping?
Or is there an inner tube inside that bolt that I need to do something about? I keep hearing about an inner tube a 5 or 15 and I'm confused. Mine is a Versa Note 2014 by the way and the magnets looked like sea urchins 😢. Luckily there were no big metal parts on the pan (I guess that's good 🤷♂️)
when i went to the Nissan deler, they said its not a good idea to replace/flush the fluid as it would make it worse. I have a 2013 sentra SL.
They want the trans to blow up so you'll bring the car back to them
Is it normal to have the metal shaving??
Yes its normal. This is what the magnets in the pan is for. You shouldn't have big chunks of metal, just tiny shavings.
Hi. What did you clean the drain pan with?

Hows it going so far
What brand of scanner did you use for this job 🤔?

How to reset the system if you dont have the scanner ?
you can't but resetting the light is not necessary since there is no maintenance light on the cluster, its only for the TCM history.
@OneTrickTech thanks, I am doing my cvt transmission fluid flush like this but I never did resetting so I was surprised when you have that in the procedure.
How often should this be done to a 2017 Nissan Sentra? I have 50k miles on mine
I would do it every 30kmiles. The shop manual says 60k miles but I don't trust that especially how fragile these cvt are. They are notorious for having issues so the least I would do is have fresh oil in it every 30kmiles

What about the tube under the drain plug?
you can remove it to drain completely
How much fluid does a 2018 Versa need if you change bottom filter and side filter? Checked today. That CVT fluid is about $14.00 a quart. You just fill it over full and let it pump out excess since you don't have dip stick? I wonder who engineered that?
the whole system takes about 9quarts. To drain and replace filter, you will need 5quarts. I would get 6 just to be safe. Yea there's is no dipstick, a lot of transmission are like this nowadays, you can only measure the fluid by letting some of it drip out.
