  • One of the earliest depictions on screen of the Clone Wars was ended up being the 2003 Tartakovsky 2D animated series. Featuring the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Yoda, Dooku, General Grevious and Palpatine alone with lesser known characters like Durge, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Kit Fisto it shows us the side of the war we barely got to see in cinemas. This compilation Caravan Of Garbage video combines both series leading right into the events of Revenge Of The Sith before the 2008 3D animated series rendered it Star Wars Legends. Thanks for watching and see you back in Feburary for new episodes!

The idea behind Grievous for Tartakovsky was that he was such a genius at playing mind games and so aggressive during combat that Jedi wouldn't have much time to think while fighting and I absolutely loved it. When he makes the mistake of getting cocky against Windu who isn't so easily intimidated it bites him in the ass.

@user-mo6yl6jr5l there's one episode in this series that actually shows Dooku training Grievous, and that sort of full on aggression and fear tactics is what Dooku teaches Grievous.

@@DreamStepper According to Tartakovsky Lucas was kinda confused on if Grievous was an effective killing machine or a mustache twirling villain who constantly had to run after being beaten so the part where we see Dooku training him was meant to justify how he could be both and the part with Windu cruses his chest was because after they were mostly done they were told he had a cough in the movies and to show how he got it.

The Italian aliens section was oddly deep. The men went to war, war made them into monsters. When they returned home, the women feared them now, and the men were ashamed, but the women loved them anyways. Not only is that a metaphor for real life veterans, but it also parallels Anakin and Padme as he gradually becomes worse and worse and she doesn't know what to do.

Absolute classic. *THE* Clone Wars is still awesome, but this for me is the absolute greatest thing to come out of Star Wars in animated form. Real shame we haven’t seen General Grievous be anywhere *_NEAR_* as cool as this in the twenty years since this show.

    • @QuantumCairo

For further iteration on this Grievous (one of my favorite characters), the droids, Mace Windu and the fucking clones get so much development in this! Imagine that! These were released originally back in the day on Cartoon Network and were shorts. They are 3-15 mins long each and aired as quick star wars bites. It blew my fucking mind; beautiful, cool, minimal words and visual story telling. Even Roron Corobb has some god tier cool shit and makes you feel the Star Wars universe is broad and diverse! I was expecting something like this with Book of Boba Fett but we just got more of the dulled down writing to fit neatly into The Mandalorian? Star Wars isn't compact or neat, it's a messy ass story about a fucking force family across like 4 generations and how they're getting by in this cracked ass galaxy lol. There are seedy ecumenopolis levels, drugs a plenty and millennia old slave traditions in whole segments of space. I'd prefer a thousand more Star Wars tales like 03' clone wars but I believe the droids' been fried on this one...also the Jedi are completely at fault and are directly the caus of the galactic downfall. They had plenty of signals, warnings and shit happen but were too inflexible and traditional to do any real good...heh...

Except after that, it was outright stated by Lucasfilm that it was George's decision to not make him a mando, and numerous canon reference guides also stated Jango had no affiliation with them. Because the thing about that scene was, with the colours of course representing ranks and/or squadrons that the clone troopers hailed from, an early draft had all the "generic" guys being from the blue squadron, meaning they were supposed to be highly trained special forces, and their decimation would demonstrate the seemingly insurmountable strength of the enemy. They were later demoted, as it were, to protect the continuity of later episodes where the droid army needed to be considered less competent. Interestingly though, that first draft of the scene, where the special forces were mown down with extreme prejudice, had the working title of "Blue Harvest", which was actually the same working title that was used as a recurring gag in Mr Sunday Movies' series of

12:15 So the lore explanation for every Jedi not doing what Mace did and crushing Grevious to bits is that he was taught to use tactics to break Jedi concentration, which makes it exponentially more difficult to use the force against him in a meaningful way.
That’s why he’s only ever truly a menace when he has the clear upper hand from the beginning, whether that’s from fear, surprise, or letting his droids overwhelm his opponents first and then swooping in for the kill.
That’s also why he retreats so much in the later Clone Wars series, because he recognizes often that he doesn’t have the upper hand and has to leave before the Jedi are able to really think and exploit his weaknesses.

This series works more as an idyllic version of Star Wars in a way all fanfiction writers wish they were capable of. It's a standalone animated series that isn't really meant to perfectly sync with canon. And I'm glad they gave Genndy that liberty because he had the talent to make it work. Hopefully one day, they'll hire him to do it again.
