The last song I can hear on this Earth? It's this live version of "The Rain Song"....and I'm NOT kidding. I'm 60 years old now and have been listening to this MASTERPIECE for nearly 50 years.
Most people say that the last song they heard from Zeppelin is their favorite song. It just shows their diversity and pure genius. LED Zeppelin FOREVER!!!🥁☘☮
He was such an amazing composer , the best ever in rock , according to Santana and others , besides being a supreme player, geez I wonder if we will ever hear music like this again
I used to get the overrated talk all the time in drunken well intentioned talks at various Illinois universities 2006-2010 but then I’ll rewatch this and just be like damn. It’s definitely not the most technical guitar but would guys have done that without this? God tier stuff is that’s way usually cuz it earns it
Our organist at church did it in the 60s ...centuries old. But jpj was light-years ahead of his contemporaries. This song shames Rush..another favorite band. But light-years more cerebral.
The Rain Song a brilliant masterpiece of music - the ending and whacks on the drums at the end is 29 inch Ludwig Universal tympani (it is a large orchestral drum made out of copper) which has a foot pedal on the bottom of it - to change the pitch of the drum head. Many people never mention that ending part. Bonzo changed the pitch of the tympani drum w his foot in unison with Jimmy's guitar notes. So Bonzo knew exactly how much push the pedal up - when Jimmy hit each individual guitar notes. Jimmy slides down the guitar next on the last note and Bonzo lowers the pitch of the drum in unison, by depressing pedal - again - in exact unison w Jimmy guitar notes. Bonzo's drums enter the song with big whacks on the tympani and crashes his 38 inch orchestral gong, behind him. Bonzo's drumming gets talked about a lot, but people rarely mention his tymp playing. He was a master tympani player too. He does double whacks on the tympani when the song gets heavy and takes off and it's played unison with Jimmy's two heavy guitar chords - to energize and drive the emotional typical Led Zeppelin dynamical musical take off into the outer stratosphere. John Paul Jones playing the Mellotron was amazing. The Mellotron has a plethora of recording tape inside it. All the instrument sounds are recorded individually onto each tape reel. When JPJ presses a key - it moves an arm forward and pushes the pre-recording tape sounds into the playing heads (just like an old tape recorder) and out comes the full orchestral string emsamble sounds. He's amazing and he was also playing bass pedals w his feet simultaneously. All the guys in Led Zeppelin had what's called - limb independence. Most musicians do not possess that skill. Jimmy switched to the six string guitar for the Rain Song and the guitar is tuned to a non-standard tuning. Jimmy wrote this entire song himself, but obviously all of the members added their own parts to it and Robert wrote the vocals. Robert's voice was amazing indeed. Have another listen after reading this w all this information here. It'll be even more amazing. I sometimes cry when the song takes off into that heavy part - I did today again while watching your review. I really enjoyed your reaction. There should be no doubt about who the best, most intense rock and roll band ever. Loved the reaction and you guys still remind me of two chills intellectuals.
If it wasn't for Page and Plant to a lesser degree I believe,6 plagiarising other musicians music and taking credit I would have continued believing they were untouchable music gods. I still believe they are great and could never understand why they went that route considering the actual talent they possessed

Its so amazing to see!!🎶🎸
I’m always skeptical when people say things like this because it seems so legendary and mystic lol. For some reason I don’t doubt you though. You witnessed something that no band will ever achieve again. This is the absolute peak of zeppelin to me…this song is a masterpiece. One of the most beautiful musical pieces ever recorded in my opinion. And this performance is top notch. The outro literally brings a tear to my eye
Seeing and hearing this sequence in a theatre at midnight in the 70's surrounded by a couple of hundred fellow long-haired hippie-type headbangers with the soundtrack cranked 'cause you know the projectionist is an experience of a lifetime. Definitely, see the video(s) of the show, played at maximum tolerable volume
I think that part is lost on most people nowadays. That was live, from 4 individuals. Nothing but talent. It isn't lost on these two, they clearly get it and appreciate it. To think that was 50 years ago, half a century.....live. they truly are in a league all of their own.
Keep in mind, gentlemen, that John Paul Jones is playing keyboard with his hands, and base with the foot pedals on Rain Song. Incredible. Thank you guys.
Jimmy Page at MSG is unmatched. There are two versions of everything sort of. The movie and the album aren't identical because of it being filmed and recorded from two shows. The vinyl is what I'm used to. Awesome.
I’ve seen Page four times- Zeppelin, the Firm, Coverdale -Page …when you see him live, you walk around with a shit grin for at least 3 days! Each time was within the first six rows center. TY for this wonderful reaction!!
It’s a big club Nancy. Right on! 🤘😎 That feeling days after, has turned into almost 50yrs since first seeing them. That smile never goes away. Regards 😉
I know what you mean. I saw Zep live once, saw Page and Plant a few times, and saw Jimmy solo when he played The Ritz (which was a relatively small club in New York). I’ve seen Plant solo a number of times too. It was always fun watching them/him play.
Saw Zep once but also saw a virtually unannounced Plant at a sports centre, doubling as a small concert venue within walking distance of my home at the time. There was just a tiny little ad in the local paper about his appearance and I thought it was some kind of joke but it wasn’t. As you might expect the concert was packed! 😊
They almost touched the finger of God with this one. The rising and falling interplay between JPJ and Jimmy P at about the 11 minute mark on through for a bit is mesmerizing. My favorite live song hands down! Brings tears to your eyes doesn’t it people?
These two songs were played together live because page used the same guitar on both. He would switch instruments after rain song during the slight pause.
the one thing youse are missing is the dynamics of the band live and Pagey's diverse picking styles while playing the double neck guitar with the 12 string on top and switching to the bottom 6 string guitar...but the biggest thing you are missing is the cohesiveness on stage and the emotion Pagey plays the guitar live.. The GOAT of guitarist
I watch pretty much every Led Zeppelin reaction that is posted (you guys are top tier) and I have seen multiple reactors get to this song, and in particular this performance and they have very similar responses. The most common way to express it is: 😮“Jimmy Page is a GOD!” 😮
Jimmy Page is playing the double necked guitar in these songs. The Song Remains the Same song was played entirely on the 12 string electric neck (the top neck). He's using a combination of his guitar pick and other three loose fingers to play the other strings of the 12 string - at the same time. Jimmy was ripping those leads on a 12 string guitar. John Paul Jones all over that bass fret board and Bonzo was unloading speed, power and amazing fills all over the place. Plant's vocal were high and mighty indeed !
Love the transition from absolutely one of the best rock songs of the 70’s being killed by LZ, to such a sweet and sentimental song as the Rain Song. Only LZ haters can’t acknowledge their greatness. I’m 62 and grew up with all the great artists of the 70’s, and Zeppelin was and is King. Like your guys’ reactions! Nice channel!
I recommended this double song to you a few days ago and told you, you wouldn't regret it. It's two masterpieces back-to-back that VERY few LZ fans know about, these two songs are very very rarely played on the radio or discussed in any way. The story for the Rain Song is funny: George Harrison of the Beatles was chatting with Page and told him "man, you are good, but you don't do any ballads..." So Page just wrote a ballad... Like taking a rabbit out of his hat.... Thank you George!!!!!
If you listen to the opening 2 chords of The Rain Song they are the same as the Beatles Something in the way. Jimmy's thank you to George for the we don't do ballads
Love Bonham's tom work in The Rain Song. He was one of the few drummers of the day that didn't dampen the crap out of their toms. They were well tuned and allowed to ring out as designed. I always appreciated that.
I'm 70 and I listen to them everyday, I can't get enough ♥️I saw them in the 70 's.I get such a thrill seeing your reaction I'm glad you love them, their one of a kind♥️♥️

Yes, not only do they react but also get it and appreciate it. They understand the talent and all the minor things that set zep apart. Plus the one on our right reminds me of a family friend named Johnny soul (real name). Great man and family friend.
Zeppelin was unbelievable live!! The show was so incredible compared to studio! Glad I was able to experience it!! Always something good! Bonham could follow Page so crazy like!! Live there acoustic and slower songs into heavy stuff! John Paul Jones so behind the scene but so much a part of the greatness!! That’s why they are the b st rock band ever!❤️❤️❤️❤️
From the movie of the same name. Concert was held at NY's Madison Square Garden, and is still considered one of the greatest live concert films of all time.
You guys slay me - once again. You are getting better at this guys. Great reaction. Remember that Led Zeppelin's roots are embedded and intertwined in American Blues. Their heroes and influences are drawn from American blues singers like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Sonny Boy Williamson - stick on a bit of British folk music, reggae and soul and you have a national treasure. Nowhere is this more evident than 'Since I've been loving you' from Led Zeppelin III. May I suggest you do a reaction of the album version? Much respect.
Next mind blowing live journey for you two should be "dazed and confused" from same concert. Just under 30 minutes. If there was any doubt after these two songs as to why LZ is the best, dazed abd confused will settle it.
The first Led Zep record I got into was the MSG The Song Remains the Same. I wore out so many LPs and something about it but I never tire of the whole album. It just keeps sounding better and better and for me, there is not a better guitarist than Page and not a better band then Zep as this album shows it all. The singing, the drumming, the guitar, Jones on bass, keys, pedal bass. there is no peer! Period. The orchestration, the story telling with music. They have it all!
If you watch (or listen) to these two songs live, you really can't come to any conclusion other than they are the best. If you are still undecided watch dazed and confused live at msg, all nearly 30 minutes of it, and it will finalize it. Nobody compares to them, especially live.
I've heard that a few thousand times and it still floats my boat. Insane talent that should be heard by all. O ya I've got the BOOK AND VHS of this concert....... Priceless
The Song Remains has always been one of my favs from these guys. Obviously it's too hard to have just one fav song but that one rocks my soul every time! ✌🏼
There is great video from this concert film "The Song Remains The Same"...The Rain Song has the dream sequences from the movie, but get to see a good bit of them playing it 😊
I got to watch the song remains the same on hbo on a loop when I was 11 or 12 in 1976 or so. Was a kiss fan and this changed everything. Then one of my friends was listening to Black Sabbath and we bought sold our souls for rock and roll. The one with the woman in the coffin with the cross. A greatest hits record. We definitely had a leg up on our friends when it came to rock music in the sixth grade🙂↕️
I don't know if you guys know this but there is a movie called the song remains the same it's two and a half hours mostly led Zeppelin live Great reaction rock on guys
It's so fun watching you guys explore their albums song by song, enjoying and appreciating all the twists and turns along the way; as Che said in a recent video, their discography is unmatched. But THEN - there is a whole other world of magic awaiting you with their live performances. They never played a song the same way twice; they'd improvise live on stage and take the audience on a brand new journey. I was lucky enough to see Page & Plant in 1995 and they were unbelievable. I just wish like you I could go back in time and see all four of them play together. But thank goodness for all the recordings. Enjoy the ride gentlemen!
wow another great reaction, bonzo has two timpani drums in his kit . i would advise you to watch the movie of this concert... the song remains the same. as this is keeping with the time line of you listening to the band and there would be no spoilers in it for you . well worth a watch . all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
Wow this has to be the best Led Zeppelin tune reaction video I've ever seen. Watching you 2 took me back to my teenage years, album was fresh off the shelf and we were all listening to it outside on the porch passing the doobie around and just diggin' these sweat sounds. You don't have to be stoned to love this, that's just what we did back in the day. I wish I could go back and take y'all with me so you could feel that 70's vibe.✌✌
After watching all your Zep reactions, I got out my old Zep Discs and started playing them. Especially this one. Munchie music at its best! Thanks for playing!
btw man, you made a good point, YOU NEED TO SEE THEM ALSO! its simply 1 of the best live' performances ever including pink floyd, its up there with them.
Ooooooh nice JOB!! Nice and CRISPY is right....Jimmy's work on the 12 string on Song R-the same, so killer. When Jimmy leads into the Rain Song, still gives me chills after all these years............. NO QUARTER next please..!! JPJ's organ, you guys will faint haha..I think it's their best song, the LIVE version that is. If you do it, make sure yo get the version where you can see all of them playing. THX!
What an EPIC song! I love Led Zeppelin! I've listening to them for 49 years. They have always been in my top three. Kashmir is my favorite song and Physical Graffiti is my favorite album.
They're so tight together it's just unbelievable. And they transition from tearing it up to the fragile beginning of the Rain Song perfectly. These men truly were The Hammer of the Gods
You guys gotta check out some of the Led Zeppelin 1970 royal albert hall performances. We’re Gonna Groove and I Can’t Quit You Baby from that are incredible.
Frankly, the video IS great, but in some ways it's best you weren't able to view it. Basically, while there IS a lot of decent concert fottage of the band playing (mostly Page and Plant on "The Rain Song"), there is also some "music video-ish" stuff going on, like Knights attacking Castles, Horse on aBeach, etc. It's cool, but you would have inevitably been distracted from the music, the Sounds that so gratifyingly --to us--obviously took you both Away! Great Reaction!
This is epic. Welcome to the most amazing musical journey. I played this until my parents bought me head phones so they didn't have to hear it all the time. Great memories almost brought some tears but so much joy.🎵🎼🎶✌️
3 Guys playing Instruments, One singing and ALL this MUSIC!!! The Layers and COLORS and Textures!! HOLY SMOKES!!!! LED ZEP are the CRUSHERS!!!!! Them and The Who!! MUSIC CURES ALL EVILS!!!! Oh My God!! 110 Mile an hour FastBalls!!! I'm Crying Laughing!!!!

Unrivaled in the annals of music history.
Required listening. Watch their film The Song Remains the Same, footage of this.
Thanks for letting The Rain Song play out.
The guitar notes on rain song are extraordinary

This is what separates Page from other premier guitarists from that era. No one has come close to composing songs like he did. Amazing
They have it all!
guys live is a thing of beauty the video and everything to it crowd vibing out, once in a thousand years
Now THAT'S the way to start my weekend! APB and a wake n'bake... Thanks again, men.
Thank you!! Have a great weekend!!
Nice way to end the week. Thank you 😅
In the film there are shots of JPJ and Bohnham laughing and carrying on while playing. Just so relaxed.
Love you guys...
LZ is my favorite band - sure, but it's such a joy watching you two listening to them. It's a creamy topping ❤
That's just stunningly great, powerful and beautiful. Breathtaking.
If you watch (or listen) to these two songs live, you really can't come to any conclusion other than they are the best. If you are still undecided watch dazed and confused live at msg, all nearly 30 minutes of it, and it will finalize it. Nobody compares to them, especially live.
Music like this will never be made again, i was blessed to grow up with it.
I've heard that a few thousand times and it still floats my boat. Insane talent that should be heard by all. O ya I've got the BOOK AND VHS of this concert....... Priceless
Two of my favorite songs back to back live, incredible
Masters….yep…..Led Zeppelin.❤️🎶❤️ I cried a couple times listening to the rain song….Jimmy n JPJ ….have mercy.🔥
This might be my favorite reaction of yours.❤️
You can see them , it's a movie , and it's fabulous....I was 14 when I saw it ...🧚
In the movie a fan hands Robert a very well deserved joint. Ahhh concerts back then.
The Song Remains has always been one of my favs from these guys. Obviously it's too hard to have just one fav song but that one rocks my soul every time! ✌🏼
There is great video from this concert film "The Song Remains The Same"...The Rain Song has the dream sequences from the movie, but get to see a good bit of them playing it 😊
Yes. They need to watch and listen to “No Quarter “ and “Dazed and Confused” off the movie.
Getting the Led out never gets old!
You should just buy this movie, The Song Remains the Same. You’re going to just watch the whole thing anyways. It’s all great!
Ha! Yes, great call! Hell, they should also get their "DVD"!
Look for the movie, The Song Remains the Same it is the full concert and you can see them play both these songs
As stated in other comments...watching the whole film the song remains the same of this concert is a fundamental part of knowing the four 😊🎉❤
Got this album for my 12th birthday can you believe that’s what 12 year olds were listening to in the 70’s best Rock band ever!
Led Zeppelin live will mesmerize you. Four guys on stage make it. Heavenly.
They depicted thunder and lightning and the rain drops perfectly
btw man, you made a good point, YOU NEED TO SEE THEM ALSO! its simply 1 of the best live' performances ever including pink floyd, its up there with them.
The video is out there and probably the greatest music video there is.
The Rain Song is my favorite too. I watch the live performance everyday same version you listened to. MSG July 1873
Best segue ever...the visuals are emotion- filled for the soul
Ooooooh nice JOB!! Nice and CRISPY is right....Jimmy's work on the 12 string on Song R-the same, so killer. When Jimmy leads into the Rain Song, still gives me chills after all these years.............
NO QUARTER next please..!! JPJ's organ, you guys will faint haha..I think it's their best song, the LIVE version that is. If you do it, make sure yo get the version where you can see all of them playing. THX!
Just saying hi to Stephen Blake. I sent him here.
Glad u listened to the studio version before the live version. Your absolutely right Physical Graffiti is going to blow u away, it did all of us.
"want me to play that again?!?" I was ROLLING
Love your Channel guys! ZEPP is the GOAT!
How could you not have found it? It is everywhere.
Then it really got good didn't it? 😅
@@algoner4421 you are right
