The "Song Remains the Same" is a movie documenting their world tour. It includes footage, a day in the life of Led Zeppelin, and fantasy storytelling. It's Led Zep man don't over think it.
The buildup before the guitar solo might be the coolest rythem section part I have heard. Just what Bonham and Jones can do with each other is amazing, let alone with Robert and Jimmy up front. Wow
This to me is one of the best guitar solos of all time, page was such an emotion guitar players ever and he was not afraid to experiment with the guitar sounds, best all around guitarist of all time, he could play any genre of music on the guitar and that's what sets him apart from all other guitarist during the '60s '70s and beyond.
I'm with you. This song and live 'Dazed and Confused' are still two of the darkest, most evil sounding songs ever recorded in rock IMO. To me what makes both songs great is that lyrics aren't over the top with the human sacrifice, kill babies and eat guts type of "shock" imagery that you'd hear from some clownish death metal group and the music, being both hard and soft, is just perfectly suggestive of violence and anguish without being overtly so. I mean, I'll take a movie like "The Witch" over "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" any day of the week, but that's just me.
Im 61, this version is still the ultimate goat 49 odd yrs later, the whole band keys, drums, vocals, Jimmy's solo stills kills it over any live rock lead to this day sloppy smoppy id rather listen to this over perfect note for note shredding a gazillion mile n hour solo's any day The riff is so sick so dirty ... So simplistic so genius hasn't been matched to this day nor ever will be inspite of the fancy equipment they have today 🎼🎸 LEGENDARY. JIMMY PAGE

Their homes were in England. They never stayed in one place when they toured. The Robert Plant scene is on his farm on English/Welsh borders with his wife and children. The youngest child was his son, Karac, who died in 1977.
Want to see Jimmy shredding?? When you're ready..do a reaction to the 28 minute version of Dazed and Confused from this same MSG concert. It has very little video interruption. Most who see it say it is the greatest live performance they have ever seen. Stairway to Heaven from this same concert is another amazing performance and has an incredible Jimmy solo too.
The movie is about this 2 day concert in New York. Each member of the band had an expressional video of their personalities from what I gather from a song each. It shows them in concert and a bit of their personal lives and bits of pieces of what happened at the concert. I must of seen this movie 50 times 40 years ago at the movie hall where everyone was just smoking dope, something that just doesn't exist today.
I was wondering if people still smoke pot as much as back in the 80's when I was a teen. Oh, I've always heard it was three nights at MSG, July 27-29 I think, 1973
The song remains the same is their concert at MSG, with each member having a "dream" sequence. During this performance the whole Jonesy dream is shown, not bits and pieces like in this video. All I know is that all of my first husband's friends at the time, in the 80s, preferred this song from this album. I do too. My hubby, whom passed away at 33, used to cry at times listening to this. He said it had everything a song should have. Now when I hear it, it gives me the same effect, especially the guitar solo with the piano
I was at this. I still get chills every time I hear this performance and the smoke was one of the best parts as it fell off the stage like a waterfall while listening to this dream performance.
As a musician myself, I caught it early. I was a teenager during this time, and I claimed Led Zeppelin to be my favorite band, and this was my favorite song.

Probably one of the most iconic studio engineers is Eddie Cramer, who worked with Andy John's on this album.Cramer also was Hendrix's engineer, and Is one of the best, if not the best. Cramer had the uncanny ability to translate what the musicians had in mind sonically for the listener. So SalvoG is doing the right thing by listening to the studio version first. Yes! Best song ever! This is my favorite song of theirs and although this isn’t my favorite performance ever of this song, it’s damn good. Every members talent is fully showcased in this song!
For my group of teens in high school at the time, No Quarter was right off the bat our favorite off that album and in concert, there was no doubt this was one of their best songs, ever.
Glad you're feeling better enough to post. This song live from MSG was amazing, however, I wish you hadn't used this video link because this was Jonesy's fantasy sequence and, for whatever reason, the link doesn't show the full thing; instead, what you get are other clips from the movie cobbled together in a disjointed, hodge-podge way that makes no sense. The movie is a concert (2 from MSG in NYC) with bits of acted scenery interspersed with occult like, spooky, of viking like character scenes. Like each member of the group had their personality injected into the movie. It is dark, and mystical, adding to the magic of the group. People actually believed that the group sold their souls to Satan for this talent, and lots of occult fantasies surrounded them. Page had bought Alister Crowley's mansion in Northern England, and Robert had a house in Wales, (Jimmy had a cabin there too) John Paul Jones was a Londonite, and Bonzo was more a cerntral UK native.
I totally appreciate you brother. That is one of my favorite guitar solos of all time! I like the way you roll brother. Keep pushing. Until next time stay well
Zep was on another level. Live was unreal from 68-75. They slipped in 77 due to page heroin addiction. Bounced back in late 70s to 1980. Then bonham drank himself to death. Really sad.
Remember the music. Forget you ever saw this video. It's cut up in a million pieces as far as the non stage visuals go. If you were to watch The Song Remains The Same, the movie it would not be like this. For a while I believe when they were recording Presence Jimmy and Robert lived in Houdini's old house.
Glad to hear you are feeling better! Regarding the concert film, The Song Remains the Same -- there's plenty of info online about this, but for a quick overview: The movie was filmed in 1973, during the performances from July 24-29, including the MSG shows, at the end of their North American tour. It was set up to simulate travel to different concert venues, some back stage footage, plus fantasy segments from each band member. All the filming and production did not go as planned, then Robert Plant's injuries from the serious car crash in Rhodes intervened, and the film was not released until 1976. The movie has some serious issues with editing and continuity, but is still well worth watching! You have to remember that, in those days, very few live performances were filmed, and prior to home video and the Internet, concert movies like this were really the only way for fans to see a live show if they couldn't attend in person. Was this song as *popular* as the more well-known hits? It probably did not get as much play on the radio as those released as singles, but people played the entire album, not separate songs, so I would say it was as popular with fans (everyone did not have all their favorite music in a playlist on a cellphone!). There were FM radio stations in some places that played entire albums, but not everywhere. Most fans had to go to a record store and buy the album, or have a friend who did. It's hard to explain how different those days were from the way people listen to music today!
Want to see Jimmy shredding?? When you're ready..do a reaction to the 28 minute version of Dazed and Confused from this same MSG concert. It has very little video interruption. It's all live footage. Most who see it say it is the greatest live performance they have ever seen. Stairway to Heaven from this same concert has an incredible Jimmy solo too.
I also recommend the video of No Quarter from 24 May 1975 Earls Court, London. Great version and all performance footage! Good to see u enjoying the Led Zeppelin journey.
When they did this song in concert it wasn't on any albums yet......but everyone like it because everyone was so high and F*ck up!!!! Bro.....back in my days...Led Zeppelin and other Rock concert was a drug festival!!!! @@lyndoncmp5751 but in between then and now, Robert lived in US fir several years and in the seventies they all spent at least half the year in the US to avoid exorbitant tax issues in Britain
Wow ,I am 58 years an didn't know this song existed from the Led ,growing up ,I didn't collect or buy albums ,but my friends did ,they never played this song ,it was always the others ,an I never really paid attention to the lyrics in music ,I had actually seen some reaction vids on Tools version an that is how I found out it was done by Led! I am glad you covered this piece an sense I am retired now ,I am going back through the music that we grew listening to an find out what some of the songs were actually about ,when found Tool it got my attention that a lot of songs have real meaning to them an was written for a purpose! Great review & reaction!..👍
I did the opposite. I learned about Tools version by reading the comments under these Led Zeppelin reaction videos. I like Tools version too. I've actually been increasing my music knowledge by watching these videos. It's become sort of a past time for me.
*Morning Bro* SOOOO happy you watched this live version SPECIFICALLY from this concert.! This rocks and you do too.! *loving* the journey.!!!! Have a significant day, hope your feeling better... *David* .....
I heard the studio versions of No Quarter and the Rain Song around 2001 in a late night bar in Tokyo Rappongi Japan and have been a fan since then. Led are all amazing musicians and probably one of the British rock/blues bands ever.
Page was also known as Master of the theremin which would be in front of him and echo when he moved his arms guitar over. That's why he played on the left side of the stage at times to avoid the echo.
Trust me we would all love to see that solo on screen, but they tragically didn’t include it in the film… there is no bootleg video of it… maybe some day it will emerge from Jimmy’s vault… we can hope 🤞🏻
The movie is really about nothing. It is literally concert footage of the MSG concerts. They added Short fantasy sequences into the movie, apparently because there were large gaps in video footage of the concerts. Each band member, as well as manager Peter Grant, had their own short fantasy sequence
YES this was popular when it came out. I was in San Francisco, and we were singing it in the streets. Of course, we were singing all of the good songs of the time lol
This is a song where the live versions are *much* better than the original studio version. They kept improving the song as they performed it in concert. (well, sometimes they "over-improved it", and needed to dial it back a little!). But the best of the live versions just totally outclass the original studio recording.
The film/video of this I think is excellent. Each member of the band has a video section to a song that they are the main part of. Definitely worth watching the whole movie as it’s very much the band at their nearly their best 👌👌👌👏👏👏
14 years old , just started getting high zep hits buffalo 2 weeks before the garden, pages strap broke didnt miss a beat 3 hours , no quarter was unreel bonzo & page were like one J P J is a master, robert seemed to be taking the night off which now that im older i understand you cant sing at that level every other night, but he still was the ultimate percy lol
Yes, The Song Remains the Same movie is s must for a fan. I will show a fantasy sequence for each band member and manager, as well as their personal lives and hobbies! It was shelved amid disputes with the film makers and then 3 years later released in theaters (1976)when Zep were on hiatus.
Back then we listened on vinyl at home and cassette in the car. The last thing you want to do is chance scratching your album by lifting and dropping the needle. Or fast track your cassette. We appreciate every single song.
All the songs on any zep albums are equally unique. There music is subjective to the listener. But most agree that whatever your taste is.. they will fill your belly full.
Glad to see you feeling better. After reading the comments here I suggest you make a great effort to read all the comments for this post. When a reactors channel attracts a larger following it does take up more of your valuable time, you obviously do read a lot of comments as you comment and ask further questions. From September 1968 until the summer of 1980, English rock band Led Zeppelin were the world's most popular live music attraction, performing hundreds of sold-out concerts around the world. In 1969, for example, all but 33 of the band's 139 shows were performed in the U.S., and between the years 1968 and 1971 they made no fewer than nine tours of North America.
This is an absolute MONSTER of a song! Like a lot of Zep's songbook, it's better live, at least from the point of view of energy and exuberance. You also get to see JImmy strut his stuff! Anyway, another respectful and enjoyable reaction. Nice one!
The band like most UK bands recorded in different countries to avoid taxation ,touring in America was only permitted six months at a time due to work visa’s and as far as land ownership they did reside in the UK and I’m pretty sure both Jimmy and Robert own various properties in the United States

For my group of teens in high school at the time, No Quarter was right off the bat our favorite off that album and in concert, there was no doubt this was one of their best songs, ever.
Knebworth 79 version is a must too, conclusion of JPJs mastery,unreal...they all became one person at some point...
TOOLS cover of NO QUARTER is MIND BLOWING. Check it out. Its off of the SALIVAL ALBUM!
Saw Zep live 6 times. 3 times in NYC in 77, 9th row for last ever show in NYC.
Best band ever assembled. This never gets old
Glad you're feeling better enough to post. I did warn you about that in your last post, but...
I'm not surprised he didn't heed your warning, the entire movie is on UA-cam and he could have easily found the correct and best footage to review there but...can try again and get him to the correct link, ua-cam.com/video/pDg721WdilM/v-deo.html
Yes I was very confused by the video clips
I would suggest you watch the 2007 version of this as well. Jimmy rocks an unreal solo in that one too and you see it all. You'll love it
I love the way jpj&bondam connected 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I totally appreciate you brother. That is one of my favorite guitar solos of all time! I like the way you roll brother. Keep pushing. Until next time stay well
this was always everyone's favourite track in my circle of friends but then we didn't play tracks back then we played whole side's of albums
Searching for decades and still cannot find Page playing solo up close
Doesn't exist for this concert tour or we'd have seen it by now I'm sure
John Paul Jones adding a bass line from his keyboard pedals.
Regarding the concert film, The Song Remains the Same -- there's plenty of info online about this, but for a quick overview:
The movie was filmed in 1973, during the performances from July 24-29, including the MSG shows, at the end of their North American tour.
The guitar solo is primarily in the background during the fantasy sequence, which is too bad because it's one of Page's best overall solos.
I believe John Paul Jones played the bass lines with foot pedals while playing the keyboard/organ!
Glad to see you're feeling better. Been looking forward to this.....you're going to love it it!!
It is a deep cut, but became a fan favorite
When they did this song in concert it wasn't on any albums yet......but everyone like it because everyone was so high and F*ck up!!!! Bro.....back in my days...Led Zeppelin and other Rock concert was a drug festival!!!! Not like these days......so when group played songs like this of course it fit the mood PERFECTLY..................hahaahaha............lol...................hahahaha
It's SOOOO good. Thanks Salvo
At the time that LZ formed, they were all living in England.
They still do.
@@lyndoncmp5751 but in between then and now, Robert lived in US fir several years and in the seventies they all spent at least half the year in the US to avoid exorbitant tax issues in Britain
Wow ,I am 58 years an didn't know this song existed from the Led ,growing up ,I didn't collect or buy albums ,but
my friends did ,they never played this song ,it was always the others ,an I never really paid attention to the lyrics
in music ,I had actually seen some reaction vids on Tools version an that is how I found out it was done by Led!
I am glad you covered this piece an sense I am retired now ,I am going back through the music that we grew listening
to an find out what some of the songs were actually about ,when found Tool it got my attention that a lot of songs
have real meaning to them an was written for a purpose!
Great review & reaction!..👍
I did the opposite. I learned about Tools version by reading the comments under these Led Zeppelin reaction videos. I like Tools version too. I've actually been increasing my music knowledge by watching these videos. It's become sort of a past time for me.
This is their finest moment
❤️🙌👏🤝 thank to you...no quarter, best mix ever 💪👊💓
Masterpiece is a word that falls a tad short to describe No Quarter, but mere words are aspirational to share our souls in a reaction comment box.
Dazed and confused live from this same 1973 msg Show is absolute masterpiece a must listen !!!!!
YES this was popular when it came out. I was in San Francisco, and we were singing it in the streets. Of course, we were singing all of the good songs of the time lol
The residence was in England... in a large house in the countryside, happy with his wife and children, Robert returned when the tour ended
saw the led Zeppelin live in1973 Southampton England and at knebworth 1979
the member's of the band portrayed there fantasy so some songs there acting it out with Peter grand as well
This is a song where the live versions are *much* better than the original studio version. They kept improving the song as they performed it in concert. (well, sometimes they "over-improved it", and needed to dial it back a little!). But the best of the live versions just totally outclass the original studio recording.
Still love The Song Remains The Same! The movie brings back fond memories growing up in the 70's !!
The film/video of this I think is excellent. Each member of the band has a video section to a song that they are the main part of. Definitely worth watching the whole movie as it’s very much the band at their nearly their best 👌👌👌👏👏👏
Commenting before Julie :)
my favorite guitar solo ever is this version of no quarter.
Love this song. Most zep fans love this song live
There's also a whole Channel called 'The No Quarter Channel'. You could look among the videos on their for alternative versions.
My favorite off of the album by far. And it is a great album!
Psychedelic yet very aggressive!
Since the day this song was released, it’s my favorite song from this Album (Houses of the Holy).
All the songs on any zep albums are equally unique. There music is subjective to the listener. But most agree that whatever your taste is.. they will fill your belly full.
I went to see the song remains the same when it hit the theaters. The video of Plant went with The Song Remains the Same and Rain Song.
I do end up reading all the comments sooner or later :) 9 tours in that time period is absolutely crazy
LOVE THIS RIFF.
By far the best song on the album.
CELEBRATION DAY CONCERT. HELLO FROM CHIHUAHUA,MÉXICO.
This is an absolute MONSTER of a song! Like a lot of Zep's songbook, it's better live, at least from the point of view of energy and exuberance. You also get to see JImmy strut his stuff! Anyway, another respectful and enjoyable reaction. Nice one!
There is a video of a guy covering just the solo and nails it.He is sitting on a stool, with a white background playing a Les Paul.
The band like most UK bands recorded in different countries to avoid taxation ,touring in America was only permitted six months at a time due to work visa’s and as far as land ownership they did reside in the UK and I’m pretty sure both Jimmy and Robert own various properties in the United States
This is actually a snippet from the 'movie'.. it was a mix of live footage and 'fantasy scenes"... you are seeing the movie already :)
If you haven't already check out "The Song Remains the Same".
Any of the live footage from the 3 nights they played at Madison Square Garden in 1973.
Yes please watch the movie! I sent you a link to the whole movie a couple of days ago! You'll see everything uncut! This no quarter video is terribly edited by somebody who uploaded this version! You'll see the full uncut version of no quarter which is way better than this upload! And in the movie it shows Jimmy Page more!
Not to take anything away from this, but TOOL does a cover of this. You should check it out.
