This live performance of the song remains the same and the rain song is ABSOLUTELY spectacular. This is probably my favorite live performance so far.

I don't think Page ever played a song the same way twice. Incredibly creative.
Did you notice Jimmy playing eyes closed for most of the song !!! What command of tone and volume !!
I did! Incredible
watch how often jimmy either isnt looking or has his eyes shut!!!! he just went somewhere else and let it flow through him. best guitarist ever imo
He was definitely 'One with the Force'!
Most of the Madison Square Garden 1973 movie was faked. They lost a lot of the footage and rerecorded it for 1976.
The rain song msg live is the very reason that Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist of all time his guitar work in this is nothing short of phenomenal
where most bands are indeed like "a bag of potato chips", Led Zeppelin is a twelve course banquet.
The greatest band ever at their peak. Performing in the greatest arena on earth. It doesn't get any better. 😎
Every once in a great while, unknown and unexplained forces line up in the universe that creates something we call magic. Things we don't understand are magical to us, and that's what happened when these four guys intersected. A mystical power greater than four was born...
Well said and so true. It seems corny or silly to speak about a band in this way but when you really sit down and listen, and watch, LZ it makes sense. I think so many people forget or don't know cuz they have been around for so long. Either, for those of us who have listened to them our entire lives, become a part of us and what we're hear or to those that never heard, are used to auto tune and the bar has been set so low to what is considered "great" in today's music. I still get blown away when I sit and honestly listen to what these 4 did. There really and truly never will be another band at this level. Period. Listen to these two songs....its not a bit if rock music, it's an orchestrated piece of art performed by 4 musicians.
Took the words out of my mouth 💗
Well said!! There will never be another. I’m glad this happened in my lifetime.
I love the way Jimmy finishes with a little flick of his fingers like "yeah, that just happened"!
Robert's voice is so beautiful it moves you to tears.
Zeppelin live from72-77 is the pinnacle of live rock.
the louder you play zep the more yopu realise what an absolute MONSTER bonham was!!!
The drums at around 15:45 ..sooooo good.
What can you say ❤ me some Zepp.
"In the day" this was THE Saturday night midnight movie...
Memories...🍄🌲🍄✨💥🌈
The guitar was an extension of Jimmy!! He was one with his guitar and craft! We were so lucky back in the 70’s !! It still is FIRE which is epic even now!!💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥
And this was 50 years ago! Still relevance today!
Eric Clapton said he always wondered what planet Jimmy was on during this performance as he didn't think it was they same one that he was on lol
Back in the 70s we used to go see this in the theaters at "Midnight Movies"...it ran for years.
It is like telling a story. Page's playing, in his own words, It's not about being technically accurate. It's about creating emotion.
I was there in the audience when they were filming the Song Remains the Same. I remember sitting there waiting for them to start, and someone announced that we were all going to be part of a movie they were making. I remember the cameras there (like in a movie) and I freaked out. It was SO amazing. I did see Led Zeppelin a couple/few times, but THAT experience was priceless....
you had your eyes shut for jimmies incredible outro, SO DID JIMMY!!!!
The greatest concert ever performed. Nothing compares. 😎
You have to go back and do Since I’ve been loving you from that same MSG performance. Epic
Hi... I was at that concert when they were filming this show
sitting in the 9th row orchestra . I was 16 years old then now
I'm 65 . Zep played for 3 1/2 hrs . If you want to see the best
crowd reaction watch Since I 've been loving you for the same show
at M.S.G 1973 . You can also feel want I felt being there. That nite ,
That show & Led Zepplin change my life forever about music . Enjoy your Zepplin journey . I'm still on my journey !!!
I think Robert was smiling because he received a joint from the crowd!! The Rain Song is simply beautiful!!!
I always thought it was a tampon. Maybe you are right though eh who knows lol.
Definitely a joint
i wonder how robert feels finishing a allison krauss concert...does he feel the same way as completing an LZ concert?...also, i have heard he sings 2 or 3 LZ songs during the plant/krauss concerts...i will bet the audience has a 10 fold greater reaction compared to a original plant/krauss song...my comment is in the highest regard to allison krauss..its just that LZ somehow embedded themselves into the psyche of millions of fans...LZ songs essentially were life experiences to the listener thus life lessons
I think it was 2 joints tied together
@@johnhirsch9589 Bonus!!!
the rain song is just BEAUTIFUL live!
You are giving old people a reason to watch UA-cam. The "back in my day " crowd .. awesome video!!
There were other bands from the '70's with impressive live shows e.g. Pink Floyd and Queen, but Zeppelin played at this level every night for 3 1/2 hours, and like many other Zep fans I think the live performances have to be taken as completely different entities from the studio releases. This band was so dynamic, so inventive that comparisons are really apples and oranges. Believe it or not the band considered this concert as only mediocre. One song that you should check out from this movie is "Whole Lotta Love" which closes out the show. In contrast to these two songs "Whole Lotta Love" is playful and loose and riotous. I think you'd enjoy it. You should do yourself a favor and sit down and watch the entire film "The Song Remains the Same". The film itself is OK. The cinematography is only adequate, but Zeppelin's performance, as you've seen, is astounding.
Bruce, You are 100% correct, For me! I look at their studio versions as previews of there up coming concerts..lol
Like JPJ himself once said in an interview, studio is studio, and live is live. There's not really much of a relationship between them if you don't want there to be.
They set such an high standard that it makes not possible any comparison in any way
Jimmy Page was still underrated for a good number of years. During the Satriani era, people assumed him to be a "more technical" guitarist, but he's not. I went to a great number of Led Zeppelin concerts, and I met Jimmy Page. One day, when I was back stage, I heard incredible jazz guitar playing coming from his star room. The door was cracked open a little. It was Jimmy Page. How I got privy to this is a long story, but Mr. Page actually had made a specific back stage pass for me. Had he wanted to do it, he could've played Satriani Guitar. Yes! He could have. Go watch Big Jim Sullivan plays Jazz. Jimmy and Big Jim were the closest of friends, and the frequently had long engaging guitar sessions together. JAZZ standards. Also, there were a few times, usually after most people were intoxicated, JPJ would bring out the stand up bass, and Jimmy Page would start playing Jazz Fusion that sounded as good as what Scott Henderson did, "look up Elvis at the Hop." Jimmy could do it all, and I still think that he should be ranked as being the number one best classic rock guitarist in history, and definitely, in reality, if the truth was known, in all genres, he was among the best of them too.
To sound better live that is not heard of, that's raw talent!
Jimmy Page was a master in the studio and live. How he could distill down a song like this - that had a half-dozen (or more) guitar parts to a live version with just his single performance is amazing. His double-neck guitar gave him the ability to use the lush 12-string for some of the song, and lower 6-string neck for the more straight-ahead sounds.
Excellent comments
Nothing compares
Nothing
Plant stated he thought this (Rain Song) was his best vocal performance of the MSG concert
And boy was he spot on!
Zeppelin were on a different level .
Even 40 years on from hearing those songs for the first time they still leave you emotionally wrung out .
They just hit parts of your soul you didn’t realise existed.
The songs arnt immediate that’s their genius the first time you hear them you get emotional then every time you hear them something new springs forth like a beacon
THE greatest band of all time
Plant’s also smiling because someone threw him a joint. 😊
All the MSG performances are bangers!! When your in the mood to have your face melted off and your mind permanently blown you must check out the best 28 minutes on UA-cam… Dazed & Confused….Jimmy Page shows why he’s the coolest cat to ever pick up a guitar!!!! (Again there are some scenes in there from the movie just a heads up) glad you appreciated & enjoyed TSRTS & The Rain Song.
Best live shows ever. They would play 3 to 4 hour shows.
When you get to No Quarter after the studio version the live one from this concert is also a must see!!
Still get the chills. I'm sure that joint an audience member threw to Robert was well deservedly enjoyed. Never apologize for enjoying the trip. Always enjoy your reactions. Part of my morning routine. God Bless my friend
Your the first person i saw to notice the joints at the end
That’s the magic of Led Zep. Those 4 guys could and did play any and all genres of music.
That doesn’t come around very often.
You have 'No Quarter' coming up on Houses of the Holy. Like The Rain Song, the MSG version is outstanding; especially the solo.
No doubt. My favorite solo from anything.
One of jimmy’s bet solos !!!!
My favorite
The MSG version is better than the short studio version .
No Quarter live at MSG is mystical. The guitar solo with the greatest rhythm section ever is so funky and jazzy at the same time. It’s an experience like no other.
Gather round children and i will tell you a story of when giants walked the earth. Truly the greatest rock band ever
To me - I love both versions. The studio version is masterful. The guitar solos are better, there are acoustic and electric guitars. Everything is balanced perfectly. Turn it up and listen again. The live version has tons of energy and is also masterfully played. They're very different from each other. Both are equally a must listen.
jimmy KILLS it here!!!
YES... when I first saw this as a lad it changed my entire approach to playing the guitar. "The Song Remains the Same, LIVE" still has the same effect on me to this day. One of the best guitar performances ever. Plus... think about it.. this is really a 3 piece band with a singer. Most bands have 2 guitars, etc.
Talk about a musical composition. My all time fave 15 minutes of music.
This was epic! And better than the studio. That's such a rarity. I can feel the passion in this, the vocals, sound, and imagery. Loved it.
Yea we got super stoned and went to see in the Theater...I was 16 and it blew my mind.
Awesome performance. The reason Robert reached down and smiled in the end, somebody threw onto the stage a big fat joint! Don’t blink you can see it in the video.
I'm with you 100% what an amazing band
You did it!!! I'm so glad you saw it!! Clips of their movie is in this.
What is the movie about ?
Good morning my fellow Zep Head.❤
@@SalvoG the movie is a concert movie with each member's (including perer grant their manager) fantasy sequences jimmy's was in the 30 min version of dazed and confused
@@SalvoG it's mostly concert footage. However it contains fantasy sequences from each band member. It's about 3 hours long. Those whole band was on point. Jimmy's guitar playing is not human especially on Dazed... and No Quarter.
Man,the Rain Song is so Beautiful!Love to follow you on this journey of the music I love😊
Hey Salvo thanks for doing that!! I saw that movie so many times, cutting edge at that time. It was an expression of each member but mostly it was the concert with scenes behind the stage and elsewhere. Awesome movie if you're into Zeppelin
What blows me away is Page has to play the song remains the same on the 12 string amazing 12 string solo by the way, because the rain song is in a special tuning on the 6 string. Page is a rock legend, saw him twice live !!
Epic! And In my opinion you need to do the studio first and then the live version second, the Rain Song always gets me emotionally. Bro you are almost at 6,000 subs and you did it so fast and I really believe the LZ fans are so devoted to the band that they love and want to be part of your journey 🎸♑🐉❤
Was fortunate to see Led live when I was young. It was Bonham's birthday and they were an hour late starting. When they did start there was no introduction. The lights simply dimmed and then Jimmy Pages guitar started up with " The Song Remains The Same ", then they blended into " The Rain Song ". Two songs so diametrically opposite, and such a perfect example of what made them so great! An experience I will never forget!
This is the pinnacle of rock.
The Rain Song is one of my favorites. Beautiful music and lyrics like poetry.
You have to listen to the live version of Dazed and Confused from the same Madison Square Garden show. It's epic.
My favorite performance of the MSG concerts. Just epic.... BTW, Plant was also smiling at the end because someone threw him a joint on stage, LOL!
Great reaction bud, this was/ is history. You are about the only reactor to get this video without it being cut to shreds. Amazing
Thanks, good reaction. I think the live version sounds better. But think about that. Live,on stage,no studio,no retakes, one guitar, not several. and a complex song. And just freaking nail it!
Greatest Band Ever!!!!
Time for the entire 26 minutes of the song Dazed and Confused from this concert. Must be viewed in it's entirety to catch the explosive guitar soloing towards the end. Prepare to be mind blown !
I've watched this countless times since this album came out and it never gets old. The most emotional beautiful climax to a rock song ever performed. At least that I've seen. The way Page gently mutes the last chord at the end is just indescribable
Every so often for it must be 48 years now I've listened to and watched this version of TSRTS+TRS (because, dang it, they DO belong together).
In my books, it's still a work of genius from a band at the height of their powers.
I always crank up Zeppelin, so my neighbors can also hear it...
As The Beatles were to the 60s....Led Zeppelin was to the 70s.....constantly changing....innovative.....charismatic.....and each member so musically talented.......best in the world at that time, with amazing songs that were so earth shattering.....you just knew history was being made every concert they played and every album they made. Looking back now, I feel so blessed being a teenager when this concert happened and as they ruled the radiowaves, concert halls, dance halls, bars and anywhere music played during the entire decade of the 70s. Thank you Led Zeppelin, for all the memories...sober, hazy or dazed and confused...it was the time of my life.
Live is always always always, best ! Truest representation of a bands ability. Live is best.
You're finally catching on. Live versions are ALWAYS better with Led Zeppelin, only because they are REAL talents. They don't fail because they are only good in the studio, with remixes to get it perfect. When you think the studio version is better, is because of sound quality with perfect acoustics. But the live versions gives them freedom to embellish.
perfection that wont be matched man..for pure music and lyrics ,,
enjoyed that .cheers
He’s smiling because he just picked up joints that someone through on the stage!
Really special reaction to an incredible performance by the band, I remember the album coming out in the 70’s and all my mates went to see the film. I rushed out and bought the album it but I never really appreciated it till years later. Thanks for the memories 👍
This is miles better than the studio version one of the best performances ever
This has been my favorite LZ live clip for years! I just got goosebumps watching it again for the 100th time. Amazing, isn't it?And you are not the first person to go back and watch it again, believe me!
sometimes the studio version is better. sometimes live is better, welcome to led zeppelin! what other bands can you say that about?
The Rain Song was mine and my wife’s wedding song. Beautiful song. I think I want one of the last things I say to be “upon us all a little rain must fall”…
Excellent Reaction. I appreciate that you’re willing to give things a second listen. I’m with you, studio first. Things are better on the second listen. But I think, Jimmy wrote this in terms of how it would flow in concert. He says he wrote Son Remains the Same as an Opus leading into and introducing The Rain Song.
The thing about Led Zeppelin live: usually took them about 3 or so songs to get into their groove, but once they did, they just commanded the stage.
they have their own genre, I believe is called Led Zeppelin...lol I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your reacts, we used to play this on 8-tracks back in the day, usually in a car...You give no bs , no fru-fru reactions, just honest and real, keep on brother!
This version of these 2 songs kicks the butt of the studio versions imo. Particularly The Rain Song, which takes on a whole new lease of life played live. A pity the "band dreams"video clips overplay the band on stage, but they play so well I can live with that. Rain Song is a thing of absolute beauty. Great reaction bro!
I like the format of studio then live. Great performance and I agree that liking the studio vs. live version of any particular song is a personal preference. These songs I also happen to like best as LZ performed them during this concert. Thanks for the great reaction! :)
I think Plant is smiling after he picked up a couple of joints someone from the audience had tossed onto the stage. ;)
Back in 78 I lived in the Netherlands and hash was legal to smoke. This song was played in some dark bar and we would along with other kids from my high school class would just be high as kite listening to this. In 79 moved back to so cal and never got high again lol. This brings back those memories.
Truly blessed with this music 🤘
So looking forward to this!!
when they had a good night onstage, they were untouchable as four seperate entities become one.
He's smiling, because the audience threw some Joints onstage for after the Show!
You don't need to apologize for the way you do your videos. Love your channel.
Ps: the more live Zep you do, the longer your videos will be ....and it's totally alright.
That was great.
One of the many great things about Zeppelin that many don't know is that they never had an opening act. They came out and for 3 hours it was all Zep.. Bands then and now have one, two or maybe 3 opening acts and then they will come out and play for maybe an hour or so.
Great reaction buddy! I love what you are doing. Keep it up!!!
JPJ is just killing it on the bass.
I think he's smiling about the two 'cigs' thrown on the the stage.
best 2 songs ever played.. live..
Perfection..yet not perfect. You can’t pinpoint it. That’s talent. You can’t put your finger on it. You can’t figure it out. This band takes you on an emotional journey like no other. I still get goosebumps watching and listening to them.
First time i saw Zep was in the August of 79 at Knebworth UK ,I was amazed,but...I saw Rush 3 months earlier on the Hemispheres tour and when it come to music they changed my life,i was 11.
These are the lands of his country... where he loves to be
blow our ear drums out? dud most of us are zep heads, we no longer have ear drums lol
Every song from MSG is awesome, hope you can do them all. One of them is a mind boggling drum solo ‘Moby Dick’! from Led II.
Jimmy best guitarist ever
HE's SMILLING because he just picked up 2 jo-ants off of the stage..love from the fans... look in his hand... but also, they killed it... :)
