The utility of a school lies in having teachers specialized and trained in sciences, mathematics, writing, reading, and how these are best taught to individuals of all ages and capabilities. The value of home schooling has to be weighed against this, and if the person or people doing the homeschooling are capable of offering similar abilities in these subjects with the added benefit of focusing on only a few students, then it's a better decision. If, however, the homeschool teacher is just barely competent in these subjects the students will be at a deficit. It should be acknowledged that the education offered in public schools can be supplemented with teaching in the home and with extra curricular activities, which can temper the ideological influence the schools have, can improve the amount of material covered, and can preserve the benefits that the increased socialization of public schools has. With the economic trend of automation and elimination of low-skill jobs, and increased valuation of intellectual ability and training, it is a lethal decision to mitigate the development of these capabilities in our children purely for the preservation of ideological leanings. I am a product of public schools. Although it is rare for right-leaning kids to come out of the public school system, if it's the truest interpretation of the data we have then exposure in the real world will cultivate truth within graduates. We should exercise extreme diligence in this decision. Just my 2c.

Jason Roy I think I was confused when I wrote that. I don't think the L.A. area has a better high tech economy, I can't believe that I even wrote that. I do, however, believe that it has a larger, more diversified economy.
Enormous respect for Mr. Thiel's entrepreneurial contributions to the world. That said California writ large is the "only place for innovation" because it literally receives 50% of all US venture capital as a state. Mr. Thiel's view would be more "contrarian" if he supported regional entrepreneurs in other states that receive fractions of larger funds as opposed to simply supporting folks that look and act like him in a different region. Great ideas are dispersed throughout the country and it would be nice if legends like this supported them to instead of perpetuating more of the same.
He is smart because he is prepared. He likely spends many hours studying, reflecting, and contemplating his and others ideas in order to reach his conclusions. We see the result of that presented here in a very intelligent way. He's also a master networker I am sure. All of that in combination makes him very powerful and influential.

Joseph Morales Trans people in the military is VERY different than human rights in the United States. If you could explain why people claim this maybe it could change my opinion or enlighten me. Sinply WOMEN in combat is an entirely new idea only being implemented in the past 2 or 3 years. The reasoning beyond the physical element, was that men naturally have an instinct to protect women. That an all male unit operates differently then one with women in it. And the negative consequence isnt from a bigoted or negative action. Its from men instinctually being more protective of the women. So if a unit of 8 guys where every 1 man protects the 7 soldiers with him, it matters if now a unit of 5 men and 3 women operates differently. If 1 of those five soldiers now unconciously puts the safety of the 3.women over the other 4 male soldiers..... that is an entirely different unit in its operation. The military also isnt a democracy. It isnt a place where all of your rights and freedoms are the same. You are a soldier. If you are in combat and the officer tells everyone to do something no one has the right to stand up and give their opinion under the 1st amendment. Things work differently in the military than US Civilian Society. The other obvious inplication with a trans in the military is soldiers are on government healthcare. People with medical conditions are screened when joining. Having a medical condition that requires medicine and other things changes situations. Now my opinion on this and hownit should be from the military/heslthcare perspective isnt exact, and mostly due to lack of education on all the facets of being transsexual, meaning i do not know the diffetences if say someone never wants to do a sex change. Or if they not only dont want to ever do that, they dont ever plan to do hormone replacement either. Meaning all that changes is the sex they call themselves. That in my opinion does change the medical part of the equation, but like i said i do not know enough to have an opinion on it myself, i just knoe enough to know its vastly more complicated than everyone is saying when they just say its a bigoted rule. And like i said, thats before they even get into the psychological aspect of who is in your unit and how it operates. I guess my biggest confusion is why people are treating the military as if your rights and the way it works in the mikitsry is the same as any other facet of Civilian Life because it isnt at all. Military operates on an entirely diff set of rules. You dont get court marshalled for walking out on your job in Google.
